First,lemme get one thing straight:

I agree that Chara isn't evil until you finish the genocide path. The only reason they want to erase the world is because I believe they're somewhat like Flowey, the only emotion they can feel is hate.

So, Asriel wanted the best for Chara. Chara still wanted to commit suicide and get their revenge on humanity. Reminder, Asriel did still do the plan... for Chara.

But Chara's plan DID put Asriel in a possition to die...
