The Mysterious Box

It was the official day of you moving in with Shintaro. You had bags and boxes of belongings sitting outside the apartment on the verandah just waiting to be bought inside away from the overcast skies.
"What have you got in this one!?" Shintaro heaved as he picked up one of the boxes and you got the door for him. "Oh that one? I think that's one of the boxes packed with manga." "One of them??? You means there's more!??" "This is me we're talking about." "Ugh," Shintaro put down the box. "of course".
The two of you walked back out to the remaining boxes. "I thought I told you to only pack essentials?" "I know."
After a few more trips back and forth, there were two items left. A box with a plastic bag sitting on top. "I'll take the box in, you can carry the bag Y/n?" "No, I'd rather carry the box, thanks." "Sure..." Shintaro sounded unconvinced.
He picked up the bag and you went to pick up the box, but as you knelt down, you noticed something written on it that you didn't remember writing; Memories.
You clenched your teeth at the sight of this particular box. "H-how?...." But then, Shintaro's voice bought you back to reality. "Y/n? Hurry up!" "Ah, right!" You picked up the box, shaking your head and walking in.
"I'll go get us some soda." Shintaro walked out from the over packed entry way and toward the kitchenette. You suddenly realised there was a decent weight to the box as you lifted it up, trying to place it atop of another one. The box felt as if it got heavier and heavier the higher you held it. Just when you got it above your head though, you felt something crawl over your foot and you lost your footing, letting the box above you fall on your head.
CRASH!
"Y/n!?" Shintaro poked his head around the corner and saw you lying beneath the now empty box. "Y/n, what happened!?" "They, hit me...." "What? There's no one here?" Shintaro looked at the contents of the box, lying all over the ground. He knelt down and picked up a cheap looking bracelet, "How did a box full of things like manage to bring you to the ground?" "Nnnnrgh..." "Come on..."
He slid his hands beneath you, managing to pick pull you into his arms. He heaved as he tried pulling you up. Shintaro wasn't strong, that's a fact.
He laid you down on the couch, and he sat on the floor in front of it. "Y/n? How many fingers am I holding up?" "W-what...?" It was as if you were glitching. You felt, weird...
"Don't try and get up, I'll be back in a sec."
Shintaro went back to where you had fallen over, and he started packing the box with its contents again. "You're such a clutz Y/n, but you're still adorable." He grinned as he picked up the items and put them in their box. "Why do you have these things?" He picked up a copy of the Japanese Constitution*, something that looked like a friendship bracelet, some pegs, spare change, a spork**, red thread, and a photograph.
Shintaro packed them back into the box, and decided to bring them in to you. "Hey, Y/n? What's this all about?" You looked over to Shintaro who was holding a box. You felt awfully dizzy and weird, you knew something wasn't right about the box, but something else was telling you to just go with it.
Shintaro sat down on the lounge beside you, gently moving you so your head would rest on his lap. "Geez, you're a weird one Y/n." He chuckled as he balanced the box on the arm of the sofa. With one hand, he picked up a little green book "The Japanese Constitution, why?" You giggled as you played with his free hand. "I dunnnnnoooo" you teased in a cheesy voice, something bubbly coming over you. You felt a strong urge to spill what felt like secrets.
"Alright then...what about these?" After putting the small book away, he pulled out some pegs. You took one of the pegs from his hand, and punched it on his nose. "Hey!" He took it of his nose and playfully stuck it on yours. "You're acting funny today, how hard did you hit your head?" You tried removing the peg from your nose but Shintaro kept swatting your hands away. "Nevertheless, you're extremely cute this way. Still annoying though."
"Hmmmmm don't think this would fit me, do you?" He pulled out the small friendship bracelet. "Ah! My best friend gave me that one when I was in year 4!" "You have a best friend?" "No." "..."
"What?"
"Anyway, why do you have a spork in here?" "I've never seen one before!!! How cool is it though?! Half spoon, half fork! It's the love child of a fork and a spoon! Wait...." "Y/n, cutlery don't have children." "But, if they did, were the spoon and fork spooning? Or.....forking? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)"
Shintaro shuffled his hand around the box a bit more and pulled out the photo frame. "Who are the people in this photo?" "What people?" You focused on the blank piece of film within the frame. "You know, the children in this photo? Who are they?" "What do you mean? It's blank." "Gosh Y/n, did that box knock your eyes out of head along with your sanity?"
The last thing Shintaro pulled out of the box was the red thread. Upon seeing the red strand, you immediately felt an instinct to tie it around Shintaro's little finger. "Uh, what are you doing?" He blushed as you tied it neatly around his finger. A warm smile appeared on his face as he looked down at you. "Here," his voice said soundly as he tied the other end of the thread around your little finger too. "Hmm." He hummed in satisfaction as he looked into your eyes sweetly.
You suddenly felt something click within your head, as if you were exiting a daze. "Huh...?"
Upon casting your eyes consciously up at Shintaro, you actually noticed you had your head resting on his lap. He had a glow about his face. "Shintaro?..." "Y/n, I...."
"Ah!" You interrupted him. "Shintaro! What's this doing here!?" You lifted your hand up and saw the red string connecting you and your boyfriend together. "W-w-what!?" You were in utter shock. To you, the red thread symbolised the "red thread of fate".
"Shintaro!? You did this? You know what it means right!" "Woah sudden change in attitude! And what are you on about? You tied it around my finger first! And then I tied it around yours..." "Yeah but why!?"
"Because it's...fate, right?"
Yours and Shintaro's faces heated up to the same shade of red as the string, embarrassed in each other's presence. "Yeah, it's fate."
"Y/n, no matter what you're like, wether you've hit your head or you're just cranky and messing with me, I love you. I love all of you, always." "Shintaro....!"
You reached your arms up and around his neck, while he snaked his arms around you. One of his hands pulled you closer as it attached itself to your lower back, and the other hand met the back of your head, slowly bringing your face in close in to Shintaro's.
"I love you, Y/n." You felt his lips brush against yours as he spoke those words, ending with a passionate kiss. He was so gentle with you, you were melting in his hands.
After the two of you finished your little make out session, in one breath, you sighed out. "I love you too Shintaro."
A smile as sweet as Shintaro's cola flavoured kiss washed over your face.

*Japanese Constitution
Not sure if Japan has one of these, but here in Australia we do, and it's a boring little book of Laws and Rights.
