~Artemis POV~

Waking up with Shino was the best feeling ever. He was warm, probably because of light, heat, science-y stuff, whatever. I don't care about that. I fell asleep with my hand in his hair. He was cuddled into my chest, that's adorable. But also out of character. Is this quirk thing worrying him now...

Shino started to move in his sleep. I feel warm again, is he waking up!? His eyes fluttered open before closing again. 

"Shino..." I whispered barely loud enough.

"Good morning Artemis~" Shino's voice was beautiful. The way he said my name made my heart flutter. I loved his accent as well. I blushed red.

"Sorry I knocked out in your room...I guess I was just really tired." Shino rubbed his eye tiredly.

"No problem at all... Your really warm...did you know that?" I still whispered, holding Shino close to again. 

"I did. I think my quirk does that. Was it annoying, I'm sorry." Shino frowned, upset. 

"Nope..not at all. I'm usually super cold, so I liked it...a lot...No need to apologize so much Shino, it's ok..." I started rubbing Shino's arm gently, hoping to calm his heartbeat which I noticed was really fast. Is he scared of something?

"I wanna see your pretty eyes, can I?" I asked softly. Shino gently opened his eyes. I gasped seeing his eyes. His eyes were half normal, half white. It was pretty, but not Shino. I touched his cheek, examining his eyes. His eyes were changing in real time. It was extremely slow but it was still changing. 

"Shino...I don't want to scare you but...uhm...Have your eyes ever changed color while you were blind?" I really don't want to scare him. 

"N-no...Is...Is that happening!?" Shino seemed actually panicked. I've never seen that and it scared me too. 

"No, don't worry please...but yes...maybe it's time to talk to the teachers or something?" I rubbed his cheek softly. 

Shino took some deep breaths and I let him calm down. 

"Maybe..."

We decided to go to the Venus after waking up a bit. I made Shino wear a sweater I made him. It was yellow with a sunflower on the side, the outline for the flower was black to match decorative stitching around the edges. I even made special sneakers with painted fireflies on the sides and yellow laces. Shino loved the outfit so much that he had the original design pinned up in his room. I admired my work as we walked. When we reached the nurses office Shino explained his small job fixing street lights as Venus examined his eyes. 

"Hmm...So this has never happened before? Prolonged quirk overuse?" Venus was doing some odd medical thing while they spoke, shining a light in Shino's eyes.

"Nope...It's worrying me now so that's why we came..." Shino seemed nervous.

"You can't use your quirk? Can't see, correct? Three weeks?" Shino nodded at every question. 

"Well...My only guess is that your quirk is tired. It's using this time to replenish its energy after lots of overuse." Venus states crossing their arms.

"Well isn't that what happens normally?" Shino said confused.

"Well, technically yes, but this extended period of  'disability' is probably trying to make up for all those short periods. There's no telling how long it will last, but hopefully not much longer. There's nothing we can do but wait. Your cut from training until your fully healed, I'm sorry...Take care Shino, if anything new develops, such as pain, come back." Venus spoke sorrowfully and nodded at us before starting to clean their materials.

We made our way back home silently. Shino walked slowly and I matched his pace. I led him away from the house but he quickly caught on. 

"Where are we going..?" The first words he said since we left. 

"Shino, your scared. Let's talk, I'm here." I held his hand tighter, studying his face.

"I...I...what if my vision never comes back...my quirk never comes back...what will I do then...what..." Shino's voice died down slowly before whispering so quiet I wasn't entirely sure what he said. "What am I good for then..." 

I stopped walking and held Shino's cheek. 

"Shino...I hope your not hinting that your useless without your quirk..." I was concerned. 

"I'm...We're at a school for quirks. What am I without a quirk here? I mean I can live without my sight, people do it just fine. But I don't know what to do without my quirk...Artemis...I should tell you something..." I saw tears welling in his eyes which I quickly wiped away. We decided to sit on a bench while we talked. 

"I...There was a quirk malfunction when I was younger...that's what made me an orphan so to speak...my..quirk...is what killed my parents...hearing my quirk is gone...I don't know if it's the feeling of...they're actually gone...Or...They're death was meaningless since my quirk is gone...I..." Shino then broke down, hiding his face in his hands while trying to sniff back tears. It hurt to see him so sad.

"Shino...No. I wish you told me sooner...Look at me please..." Shino looked up at me with a slightly red face, tears still streaming. 

"Shino. Your quirk may be gone for the time being but that doesn't erase your parents. When they died...they live on in you. They'll never leave you-"

"But if this whole thing happened earlier, they wouldn't be dead!" Shino suddenly yelled. 

I pulled him into me, shushing him gently.

"Hey...it's not your fault...It may have been your quirk that killed them, but it wasn't you. You didn't have full control over your quirk, nobody does. It's ok, it's ok...if that didn't happen, you wouldn't be who you are today. Remember what you told me? If my parents were in my life, who knows if they could afford to send me here. If your quirk didn't...mess up, you may not be here right now." Shino seemed to calm down.

He chucked before speaking. "If I didn't meet you, I don't know what I'd do..." Shino hugged me tightly, pressing me against the back of the bench. "I love you." 

I hugged him back. "I love you too." I wiped his face again with my sleeve, making him chuckle slightly.

We got up and made our way to the dorm. What happened to Shino's eyes the next day sent me into panic.
