Proud father of...(Fluff)

Apologies for mistakes and continuity errors, this was written over the course of many days, I also did not proofread due to lack of available time.

So yea.

Enjoy!

—~Database POV~—

I hate staying late. They needed someone to print some papers in the teachers office. The coffee I drink is cold. It's been sitting on the desk for hours. Specifically since I made it this morning at 6 AM. The printer has just as much will to print as the kids at this school have will to live. Gets less and less by the minute. I have to knock it a few times to get it working right every few moments. I'm not sure how this school can afford to keep adamant living conditions for a penguin, but can't afford a new printer.

After about an hour a knock is on the door. The knock is soft, but loud. God, how does this kid end up here so often?

"Shino, come in." I say, sipping the cold coffee.

He enters quietly. He looks a bit pale. Odd for him. Shino's eyes aren't glowing. Nothing about him is glowing. Gloomy rather. His breathing is irregular. He looks down at the floor. Something is wrong.

"Hey, Database. Can..Can we talk?" Shino says, still looking away.

I know what this is about. I'm surprised this conversation didn't come up sooner. I sit on the couch, patting the seat beside me.

"You knew my parents, correct?" Shino asked cautiously. He's still not looking into my eyes. This is weird behavior for him.

"You know. Of course." I answer, leaning back. I keep my gaze on Shino.

"What we're their names? Their quirks? What...What did they look like? I just realized that I can't...remember anymore..." Shino looks straight down, tracing the marks on his palm slowly.

"Well...You know, you look just like your mother." I said, hoping to lift his spirits. Seeing Shino this sad was upsetting.

"I do?"

"You do. Both your parents were seasoned heroes. I bet if you did a quick search of "Lightning Rod" and "The Inventor" I'm sure you'd find something good." I smiled, Shino was looking at me now. The look on his face was one I want to remember. He's surprised, proud, excited, all in one.

He pulls out his phone and types up the names. He examines their pictures.

"Oh my gosh...I do look just like her..." Shino says, finger tracing over his mothers picture.

She also had orange hair, she got the yellow streak in it because of her quirk. She could manipulate lightning. Her streak would glow when her quirk was active. Just like Shino.

"Your father was a support hero, just like me. Soon enough we became close, I met his wife, he met mine, we were a happy family pretty much. Your mom was a character to say the least. She had a lighting quirk, she could control it however she pleased. Your father could collect information from sources of light. Depending on how old the light is, so when it was made, the more knowledge. This is what made him such an amazing inventor. You know..he made my visor." I decide Shino deserved to know now. I didn't want to overwhelm him with information on his parents unless explicitly asked. Now is the time.

"He..he did?" Shino stares intently at my visor, his eyes glowing brighter with excitement. A small smile on his lips.

"He did. That mask you have, it was his old welding mask. Ever noticed the small burns on it?"

"I did...I never thought anything of it though...I knew it was his, but I never knew what use he had for it...wait wait, you said my mom was a "character"? How so?" The innocence of curiosity was something Shino never experienced, it was odd hearing this tone on him, but also...Relieving.

"Well...She was very...headstrong I suppose. Her greatest downfall was not thinking enough about her actions. While your father thought way too much. Opposites attract I suppose...Kinda like...You and that one boy." I found out about his relationship with that one kid...Artemis I recall? He seems like a sweet kid.

"Y-you know about that!?" Shino instantly blushed, he hid it surprisingly well, but it was still there.

"I do make an effort to pay attention to you, your my best friends child...So, how's the boy? Is he nice? If he gives you any trouble I'll deal with it." I always remind him that I'll be there if he needs me. Shino often refuses help, so maybe letting him know that I'm here is comforting to him.

"Oh no, he's quite the quiet type, well not quiet, but shy. Probably the third most anxious person at this school." Shino clarifies, probably thinking about 'em right now. "About my parents...What were their names?" Heavy one.

"Your mothers name was Astrape Basca. Your father was Coeus Basca." I answer softly.

Shino thinks about their names for a moment. He looks at the marks on his hands.

"Where...Where did I get my markings from?"

"You got your eyes and your markings from your father. Every time he collected information from light, the marks on his arms grew more prominent. Your eyes are exactly the same. Dark gold with yellow rings. I believe the only difference is, your father had three rings." I think back to my old friends eyes. That checks out.

Shino smiles and hugs himself gently. I pull him in. We stay in this hug for a long time. I hear Shino's soft crying on my shoulder. Then I hear something else.

"Thanks dad..." Shino said, just barely audible. Still hugging me tightly. He left quickly after.

I sit and think for a moment before pulling out my phone and changing my twitter bio. Small change, to most it'll probably go unnoticed.

Support Class Teacher at Monarch Academy. Lead Investigator of the Police. Proud father of 3. RESPECT THE SUPPORTS!

Note: That's just a headcannon-ish thing. It's Database's actual twitter bio. But instead of "proud father of 2", it's 3. Sally, Sophia, and Shino.

(All them S's)
