Chapter 7: Lady Death
With his shotgun at hand, Yong Soo walked through the perimeters of his home. He looked out through the windows more often and always saw the red and blue lights flashing from the tops of the police cars that clustered in groups and patrolled the town. He knew that everyone in the community was already scared to death at the senseless killings that recently occurred within the last two days. If more people died today, the pressure on the cops would be overwhelming. How do you catch some night killers when they themselves are experts of the darkness? Thought Yong Soo. He looked at the fire pit and stared at it for a while. His thoughts went back to the death of his beloved wife. He knew that her death wasn't due to her sickness, but he didn't know what could have killed such a strong, good-looking and beautiful woman who had been his missing bone from the day he met her. He remembered seeing her dying slowly, remembered her last words, remembered her soft dying arms that were as cold as death's grip. She had cherished those beautiful moments with him before her death, memories that seemed more precious than gold itself. She meant the world to him, and now gone, he considered himself lost as well.
His minds snapped back into reality when he heard a banging on the door. Adrenaline rushing through his veins, he cautiously approached the door and looked through the pigeon hole. It was a woman, as young as twenty, banging on the door with a mixture of fear on her face.
" Please open the door!", exclaimed the woman," I don't want to die! Please open the door!".
He stood back and hesitated. He was afraid to help the woman, thinking it was a trap, a way of bringing him and Min Yin to their untimely grave. But what if the woman wasn't as harmful as he thought she was. There was only one way to find out.
It was when he heard the woman gave out a cry that he was moved to open the door. But as he did so, he felt a sharp blade piercing through his flesh. He stood there and gasped. He dropped his gun and stared at the woman who smiled evily at him while blood trailed down from his nostrils and mouth. As she removed the blade from his body, he slumped to the floor and died.
He blinked at the fire pit and looked round him in confusion. He went to the door and looked through the pigeon hole. No one was there, not even the red and blue lights flashed pass. Everywhere was dead silent, as though life no longer existed. He tightened his hold on the shotgun and walked through the hallway that lead to his daughter's room. He made sure he made as little noises as possible. His heartbeat was increasing with each passing moment. Anxiety and fear swept through him like a flood, overwhelming him with various thoughts circulating his mind. He finally reached the door and gently grabbed the handle. Turning the doorknob, he opened the door halfway and peeped through, his eyes gazing at Min Yin's bed.
Akako, the woman, sat on side of the bed and petted Min Yin's face with the back of her right hand. The second he saw her, the instant he raised his gun in an attempt to fire. But to his surprise, she was no longer there, as though he was hallucinating or imagining things again. He knew that he wasn't just seeing things. He saw his antagonist and he wasn't going to sleep unless they had a showdown.
Although, fearing that his daughter's life was at stake, he closed the door behind him and sat down beside her. He would have stayed there throughout the night had it not been that he noticed something glowing underneath his clothes. He brought out the golden necklace and noticed that it glowed more or less brightly as he moved it around. Following the more glowing sensation, he left the room and was lead to the kitchen by the necklace. Sitting on a yellow plastic chair at the head of the wooden table was Akako, looking at a photo of his deceased wife. Immediately he sighted her, his shotgun was aimed at her head. She didn't seemed to notice his presence, so he walked over and stood behind her.
" Who is she?", she asked without looking at him.
He hesitated before answering," My late wife".
" A lovely woman I must say", she commented," Still wondering why she married a weak human".
He placed the gun directly on her head and asked," Who the hell are you? Why are you killing our people?".
She didn't answer. She only stood erect and faced him. She gave him a seductive smile, but he wasn't that foolish to be lured.
" Answer me!", he ordered.
She took a step forward while he backed away, surprised that she had the guts to defile his order.
" Stay back!", he threatened, but she took another step forward. This continued until they got to the living room, where he pinned himself against the front door.
" Don't let me shoot you!", he warned, although he knew that he didn't wanted her dead yet.
" If you don't kill me, I will", she replied and stretched forth her right hand towards the kitchen. Her sword broke through the wall separating the living room from the kitchen and was held by her. Without warning, she broke into a run.
He had no choice. He pulled the trigger and the blast made Akako fly across the hallway and hit the wall hard. She slumped on the floor and laid there like a dead doll. Min Yin, having heard the gunshot, woke up and was scared to death at the deafening sound of the bullet. Yong Soo immediately ran towards Min Yin's room and locked the door.
" Daddy what's going on?", she asked in a frightened tone.
" Stay where you are and don't try to open the door", ordered Yong Soo. As soon as he turned to face Akako, the latter was already standing unharmed and wearing an angry face.
" That was a mistake", she said and instantly kicked him hard between his legs, grabbed him and threw him back into the living room. He groaned and grunted as his left hand held his balls while his right hand still held the shotgun. He managed to get back to his feet and opened fire. This time, Akako walked straight towards him and sustained no injuries from the gun. She reached him, snatched his gun from his hand, bent it in a U-shape and threw it away. She then kicked him hard on the chest in such a way that he broke through the door of the kitchen. He groaned and looked up to see death coming towards him with her sword now at hand.
