😰Flowers (Shigaraki x Dabi)

(Hey hey, art is not mine. I haven't written anything depressing like this before, so hopefully this tugs someone's heart or something. Let me know what you think. Thank!)

Bloody mouth, constantly suffocating, coughing up blood, and soft, pink rose petals, that was all he could feel when he sees the burnt man. A sense of terrible and untrusted love that the crusty villain had for the other was killing him from the inside out. Literally. Tomura was curled up by the door in his room, keeping it pinned shut with his body in distress. He didn't want anyone coming in and bothering him today, as he was hiding his disease and the misery it was bringing to him.

It had been like this since Kurogiri brought him and the crazy girl here. He only did so to encourage Shigaraki into letting them join the league to fight against All Might... However, ever since his red ruby eyes made contact with the burnt man's bright blue diamond eyes, he's been feeling sick to his stomach when his heart suddenly flutters. What made this worse is that the blue-haired villain not only knew what was wrong with his body, but he already knew the cause of his intense pain.

"I-it's all his fault..." he muttered softly, coughing up and spitting out a few more blood-covered petals before using his sleeve to wipe the crimson off his mouth. It was so painful, the pain in his lungs at the thought of the one who calls himself Dabi invades his heart and mind.

Hanahako, the flower disease. Those subjected to it have flowers grow inside their body such as the stomach, lungs, throat, and other vital places. The only way to cure it was to confess to your soul mate and have the feelings returned. If the soul mate rejects, the sickness goes for the kill and offs its subjects. However, if both feel the same and they become a couple, the effects of the disease are reduced to nearly nothing. In some rare cases, it comes back to kill if the soul-mated bond were to ever be broken. Till then, the one sick has only 30 years in their life to find their soul mate before inevitably dying to the oversea of flowers.

Luckily yet unfortunately, when one has located their soul mate, the sickness can flare up and get worse, making it hard to talk, breathe, or do work that requires lots of stamina. This also made confessions rather difficult over the years, since it requires the person to be near their soulmate when confessing and getting the results. However, many were scared to confess due to the risk of rejection ending their lives. In Shigaraki's case, this idea was no different.

     "Shigaraki?"

"H-Huh-?" Above the male and ledged in the doorway to Shigaraki's bedroom was his right hand, babysitter, and bodyguard, Kurogiri. He wanted to check on his boss and snapped Shigaraki out of his thoughts with his voice.

"What do you- gh?! W-want...?" Shiggy asked, nearly choking out another pesky petal threatening to leak from his throat. Kuro saw what was happening and realized why his boss was now hiding in his bedroom, away from the others, theorizing that his boss did not want to show weakness in his condition. Especially in front of the newer members.

     "Boss, may I come in..?"

"...sure..." Shigaraki muttered hesitantly, moving away from the door so Kurogiri could slide in before his bodyguard closed the door for privacy.

"So, which one of them was it that made it flare up?"

     "...Dabi..." Shiggy muttered in defeat.

     "You mean the fire user?-"

"Yes...being near him is making me choke up more..."

Kuro nodded as he perked an idea to help his boss with the side effects, "I have an idea, but let me bring you some juice..."

Shigaraki nodded and allowed Kuro to leave, the purple-fogged male standing up and leaving the room briefly, leaving Shiggy alone. He sat there in his thoughts for a while, thinking how he and Dabi would be as a couple and how interesting they'd be together, but those lies and invading thoughts made him cough up blood and petals like crazy, spitting up more petals from his lungs at the sheer thought of things.

'I'm getting tired of this coughing, and it hasn't even been a day since they were brought here. Great...' Tomura thought as he felt another bloody petal slip from his mouth and onto the carpet by his feet. Luckily, his thoughts were soon cut as Kuro knocks on his bedroom door, asking Shigaraki to let him come inside. Shigaraki perked and stood up from the floor, letting him in, the portal-like man handing his boss the juice that he went to get.

"I know you don't want to hear this, but you should tell him..."

"And be killed in the process?? Who would take over?!"

Kuro went to protest but realized his boss had a point there and stayed quiet for a good minute or more. Though soon he mentioned that he will let All for One know of the situation so that he and Shigaraki can discuss the plan. The crusted man thought about it before agreeing with Kuro's idea. After that, Kuro stood up and brushed himself off, moving to leave the room to go tend to the bar, leaving the other male in his thoughts.

Shigaraki sat there, pondering Kuro's words about confessing to Dabi. Internally, he knew better than to just do it upfront and immediately. That would be a death wish for Shigaraki if he dared try that. However, he had a plan. One that would hopefully help him bond and get closer to the burnt man and make the rejection hopefully a less likely chance to happen. His mind lingered on the idea for a while as he lay in bed, aiming to attempt to try and sleep.

     "...maybe I should..."

After some months had passed, Shigaraki tried to get to know Dabi and bond with him without seeming suspicious. Being with Dabi this long though, Shiggy felt like it was time for him to finally confess to the other male. As nervous as he was, he felt confident that Dabi would say yes to him. He felt so confident that Shiggy told Dabi to meet him on the roof in 20 minutes. As time passed, Shigaraki waited patiently while staring at the sun rising, the sky seeming beautiful in his eyes at this time of day. That was when he heard footsteps approaching from behind him. Tomura turned around to see Dabi, a frown on the male's face. The crusted boss felt his lungs tighten, though tried to hold it as Dabi got close.

"So boss, what did you call me up here for..? It's not something stupid, is it?"

"No, idiot...I need to t-tell you something..."

"Does it have to do with that Hanahako crap you have..?" Dabi said blankly, making the other go wide-eyed.

"H-How do you-" Dabi shushed him, "Kuro told me. Plus the petals and blood around you give it away."

Shigaraki cursed softly, slowly feeling the pain starting to worsen, which made him worry, "Yeah...i-it's about that..."

Dabi hummed softly, glancing to the side, "Save it...you won't like my answer if you confess to me."

Shigaraki felt something stab his lungs, harshly coughing up thorns and petals. He knew what that meant, but his sickness was unsure if it was a rejection or not.

"D-Dabi...Don't....." He could barely breathe, hating how desperate he sounded, but he couldn't let himself go out like this. Shigaraki collapsed to his knees, holding where his lungs were and one hand holding his neck. Dabi immediately ran to his side and tried to help him.

Deep down he didn't believe he was Shigaraki's soulmate and didn't have feelings like that towards his boss. Not that he knew anyways. As far as Dabi knew, he lost the ability to love ages ago. However, he felt concerned about his boss's condition. "Shigaraki? Hey! Breathe, damnit!"

Shigaraki struggled, Dabi being close only confusing and harming his body more. He could barely breathe, let alone talk as he focused on coughing up the stuck petals. Dabi tried to help with the maneuver and patting his back, but it didn't help. Shigaraki could feel his consciousness fading with each second of a missing breath, Gripping onto Dabi and looking up at him with this look Dabi never thought he would see.

He saw fear...fear and desperation in Shigarakis's eyes. But the emotion didn't last long as Shigaraki grabbed Dabi by his throat, struggling to speak.

"if...I....am....die....you.....come.....with...." He breathed out, his quirk activating. Before Dabi could react, he felt his body start to stiffen and crack. He looked down and saw gray overtaking his body. He only smirked wickedly as he felt his body tense and release into dust, some of him already being taken by the small breeze. Shigaraki felt the pain in his lungs worsen, watching the one his heart tugged for being destroyed by his own hand. He couldn't allow himself to die alone. Not like this. He hated how Dabi's rejection was killing him from the inside out.

He shook and trembled, his face starting to droop as he felt tears leaving his eyes, slowly dragging down his dried face and his vision flickering in blackness. His last image was Dabi's body turning to dust in the wind from his own hands, the smile stuck onto Dabi's frozen face as it faded away and haunted Shigaraki's mind. Unable to breathe anymore, Shigaraki fully collapsed, the last thing he could hear was footsteps running over to him and disoriented shouting from unknown sources. Shigaraki smiled, knowing he was at least going to be in peace now.

     "I'll see you soon, Dabi..."

(1598 words. Whew! I'm not sure how angsted I made it, but hopefully, it worked. Thanks for reading.
