PROLOGUE
The school was quiet, the only sounds coming from the generator in the basement and the shuffling of footsteps across tile. Wait, what?
A odd group teenagers rounded a corner, led an impossibly tall girl. Several other girls followed, each shorter than the last. The leader paused at a door, removing the paper that covered the window slightly and peeking into the classroom. She then turned to one the group, and nodded to one, who sighed quietly. Smoke curled out of her hands as it began to seep under the door and towards the door nob, before unlocking it from the inside. The leader smiled lightly as the click echoed throughout the hallways., then looked at one of the others. "Kayla. Anything worth mentioning?" She whispered to a girl with three dragon-like heads. All three cocked their heads, looking around the hallways and listening. After a couple seconds, the middle shook it's head. "Good." She said, turning around and grabbing the doorknob.
"Alright, let's get them and get out of here." Said a girl with dark brown hair. The leader rolled her eyes. "We're working on it, Ayla." She said with sigh as the door creaked open. All five kids winced as the sound of hinges that had been oiled for years swung. "Now we really need to go!" The girl who had opened the door said, panicking. "We know that Heidi. Mar, get the cage and let's go before the cameras turn back on." Ayla hissed under her breath, but the leader had already ran into the classroom, sneakers squeaking against the floor. She grabbed the cage, and bolted to the other side of the classroom. The contents of the cage let out surprised squeaks as they were suddenly picked up and transported somewhere else.
A glimmer of triumph flashed through the leader as she made her way towards the door, but knew she couldn't celebrate just yet. "Let's go." She said, and was opening her mouth to say something else when a flashlight beam was in her face. She winced, blinking back black spots and the rest of the group either hid their eyes or looked away. When the girl holding the cage was finally able to look up, she smiled guiltily. "Hey Officer Branton. How's the kids?"
