Classes
"Hey."The sound of another voice startled her causing her to turn. The quidditch girl stood there hands on her hips. She was fairly tall and thin. She had her long blond hair in a ponytail and dark blue eyes. "Leesa Parker, you?" She held out a hand after introducing herself.
"I'm Selena DeBrax." Selena shook her hand before continuing ."So is that your stuff?" Selena asked gesturing to the trunk at the foot of the bed beside her own.
"Yeah but onto more important things, do you really not know what quidditch is?"
The first day of classes was confusing and frustrating to say the least, the stair cases changed direction, there were walls pretending to be doors and the worst was peeves. The ghost had misdirected over 20 first years causing the lucky ones to miss half their class. Selena walked with Leesa as they followed the other more confident Slytherins going the same way. It didn't take long to learn which classes were worse to be late for than others, Professor McGonagall was stern but kind while Snape was just strict.
The first Friday of school came quickly, Selena sat at the great hall finishing breakfast going over the schedule for the day.
"What's first for today?" Leesa asked peering at the schedule in Selenas hands. In a quick motion it was taken from her grasp. She glared at the thief as he sat down beside her. He had fluffy black hair and grey eyes. He was slightly shorter than Selena, generally fit and had slightly brown skin.
"Oh fun, double potions with Snape and our first class with Gryfindors." Logan Reynolds answered sarcastically.
"At least your actually good at potions." Leesa replied giving Selena a chance to take the schedule back.
"Yeah the only person Snape likes more than you is Draco." Selena added in a hushed voice as Draco was only a few feet away capturing the attention of most around him. Logan glared back before standing back up.
"Let's get going extra time can't hurt." He suggested as a few others were already leaving. They followed a few others down to one of the dungeons where potions class took place. Snape took register at the beginning of class pausing at Harry potters name.
"Harry Potter. Our new - celebrity." Selena still didn't know what the big deal with the boy was and why Snape seemed to hate him so much. Although he was the head of Selena's house she couldn't help but dislike they way he bullied students into fear of him. After Snapes speech about the absence of silly wand waving and his one sided conversation with Harry he set everyone in pairs. Selena was paired Logan, she was lucky as he was obviously skilled in potions. Snape criticized most of the class, especially the Gryfindors, they only exceptions being Draco, Logan and few others. The only major incident was when a Gryfindor boy named Neville was drenched with his potion and collapsed with angry red boils.
"So whats the big deal about harry potter." Selena asked Logan and Leesa as they headed to their next class. Selenas friends whipped around with disbelieving expressions.
"What do you live under a rock!? He is the boy who lived." Leesa exclaimed as if it was perfectly obvious.
"Yeah he was the only one to survive the killing curse and in doing so he stopped you-know-who." Logan continued in a hushed voice. Selena was confused as ever, she certainly didn't know who. The confusion was evident by her facial expression.
"You know, Voldemort." Leesa finished her voice barley audible. She looked around as if someone was going to jump out at her. Selena found their behavior very odd and decided to find out more about this Voldemort another time. The rest of the day was filled with charms and transfiguration classes. Once they got back to their common room Logan found a notice about flying lessons.
"Flying lessons with Gryfindor, I bet they can't even get off the ground." Draco sneered to many of the other Slytherins who laughed at his remark. Selena had a sudden wave of panic, she had never seen a flying broom let alone ride one surely she wouldn't be able too.
"Finally we get to do something I'm good at." Leesa said as we sat in front of the fire as to distance our selves from the gossiping crowd around Draco. "I can't wait until quiditch try outs although first years rarely get onto the team." Logan looked sick at the idea of flying.
"There's no way I'm ever flying, I don't care if I flunk the class." He protested much to Leesa's horror.
"How could you not want to fly it's the best feeling really being so high, the ground hundreds of feet below you!" Leesa continued to torture Logan as she watched him look like he was going to throw up.
"Stop torturing him Lee he looks like he's going to hurl." Selena stopped Leesa from going any further. As nervous as Selena was the thought of the wind rushing through her hair made her excited for the up coming class.
Soon Selena and Leesa were hurrying down the front steps to find it was a clear, breezy day. Soon the teacher arrived, Madame Hooch. She barked at everyone to stand by a broomstick.
"Stick your right hand over your broom and say Up" Madame Hooch said watching each student carefully. A chorus of students yelling 'Up' some more then others. Leesas broom jumped to her hand immediately unlike most of the other students. It took a second try for Selenas to jump up to her hand and she shot a smile to Leesa while Logan struggled to get his to move at all. Madame Hooch proceeded to show them how to mount their brooms properly and adjusted each of their grips. Leesa seemed to be the only student to get it right first try as even Draco was holding it wrong according Madame Hooch. "Now when I blow my whistle, you kick off from the ground hard, keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet and then come straight back down by leaning forwards slightly. On my whistle - three - two" she was cut short when Neville started rising off the ground with no sign of coming down. He started to slip side ways off his broom and - WHAM - Neville now laid on the ground his wrist bent the wrong way. Madame Hooch hurried Neville to the hospital wing after giving a strict rule to not leave the ground until she came back.
"Did you see his face, the great lump?" Draco snickered while picking up a small ball that Neville seemed to have dropped. "Look! It's that stupid thing Longbottom's gran sent him."
"Give that here, Malfoy" said Harry quietly, all eyes were now watching the two boys. Malfoy grabbed his broomstick and pushed off the ground easily, the ball still in hand.
"Come and get it, Potter!" Upon this Leesa reached for her broom anger in her eyes. Harry had already taken off before she could and was in pursuit of the now smirking Draco. The chase ended quickly as Draco had thrown the ball expecting it to shatter on the ground. Harry dived after it at and only leveled out at the last moment, he tumbled to the ground with the ball in hand.
"But - how did he-" Leesa let out in a gasp before she spotted Professor McGonagall striding down the field.
"HARRY POTTER!" McGonagall was furious as she pulled Harry back towards the castle. Selena caught sight of Draco and his followers triumphant expressions, a hot fury boiled in her. Selena saw the same anger in Leesas face, with a nod they agreed that Draco wouldn't be feeling so mighty if they could help it.
