Chapter 1 - Prologue

Jaden sat on the tree a little ways inside a forest, thinking of her next quest that she would undoubtedly go on. She had been to Middle-Earth and to Hogwarts. Maybe she'd end up in the 16th century and fight in another damned war. God only knows she had just barely survived the second Wizarding War.

Jaden had already been sent to 1937 for no damn reason, and to be honest she was sort of sick of the time period. She was never told that her next quest would be in the past. These people still had seventeen years till the first Lord of the Rings book so it meant that she was in a regular, non-magical world. Probably the same one Jaden came from. A thought passed her saying something about an 'Earth-Prime' from a comic she read once.

Jaden sighed and looked down, her brown hair falling over her face. The 19th century was weird and, in her opinion, inferior to her original time period. When Jaden had first arrived in 1936 she couldn't find any clothes to use. So she took to hiding in the woods and stealing clothes her size from campers who came by. Living off the land was easy enough, and the food was somewhat hard to catch but she adjusted well.

She had a small cottage about a mile into the forest and it was fashioned after her house in Mirkwood. An entire year had passed, carrying her into 1937, which meant a year without her husband and her son. It hurt but still she carried on. Jaden knew she'd see them again one day.

Jaden's thoughts were interrupted as a bright light suddenly appeared above her. Startled, she fell from the tree branch she was resting on and onto the forest floor. Luckily she wasn't high enough for the fall to cause much damage. Still, it hurt, and Jaden turned to look up at it. Whatever was giving off the light was invisible. Invisible, strange light, run!

Jaden immediately got up and booked it, the light seeming to follow her. Grey eyes widened, she was scared of what it was. She's been in wars but the Wizarding War made her scared of sudden bright flashes. Especially ones that happened quickly and left people dead. Jaden stumbled over a rock and almost lost her footing. A string of curse words left her mouth as she righted herself and kept going. A slight throbbing in her foot.

She couldn't get ahead of the light so Jaden did the only thing she could think of; she shifted. Her legs became shorter and her arms longer. Jaden felt her body grow and rearrange bones as she grew black fur. A snout then grew, completing the transformation. Jaden's grey eyes then turned yellow and she could now see where she was heading in the dark of the night. Jaden was headed towards a clearing. Oh dear.

Jaden burst through the trees and leapt over a small river. She had gotten only slightly ahead of the light, but it still followed persistently. A herd of deer ran away from the wolf, clearing a path but a newborn stumbled. It couldn't stand as it had just been born. Jaden jumped over the small thing as it gave a yelp. It would be just fine.

Without warning Jaden tripped over a hole in the ground and fell, rolling her paw a little and giving a howl of pain. The light passed over her but swiftly came back. Panting, Jaden got up and ran again, spotting another part of the forest.

Putting in a last burst of speed Jaden tried to get there as fast as possible. They might lose her, not that it worked in the beginning. Soon the forest surrounded her but the light still followed, almost as if saying, 'oh no you don't.' Her heartbeat was going haywire as she ran.

Jaden jumped onto a tree stump and leapt off as she tried to gain more ground. She was suddenly lifted from the ground. Her body unwillingly became human again as she climbed higher into the sky. She screamed in pain as the change was forced on her. But even through the pain, Jaden had to admit how cliché it was. The whole, being lifted into the sky by a large white light, thing.

Panicked, thoughts jumbled, and heart racing Jaden appeared in a room. As soon as she looked to her left something was stuck in her neck, taking on immediate effect. She felt a twinge of pain as that something felt like a needle. She was drowsy and Jaden couldn't open her eyelids. The last thing coming to mind before she went under became, 'I'm going to kill whoever did this.'
