I ran back up to my room, feeling elated. We had figured out how to destroy the Hunter's most powerful weapon against us! I turned into a raven and soared out of my window, wind brushing against me. I perched on a branch and turned into a squirrel. My ears picked up something abnormal, and I focused on that sound. They were voices low, gravelly, and also male. Arguing, though. and they went something like: "no, we have to get them now!" "they figured how to destroy the crystal, we're weak!" "come on, we have more!" "not that many, we're running out, they are only found on Umbara and I'm never going back there!" the first voice lowered as if hiding something from the forest." "we have a small backup, in the cave near the clan house." the second voice relented, finally saying, "fine, but we have to get a lot first. We're coming back next week.", before disappearing. The first voice sighed then disappeared too. I was both terrified and excited. I had figured out a battle plan, but they were going to attack us next week, with a lot of something, either shades or crystals. I turned back into a raven, then flew back home as fast as my wings could carry me.
I landed on the porch and turned back human. My heart felt like it was beating a hundred times a second. I ran like the wind downstairs and exclaimed hurriedly, "mom, shades are planning to attack us in a week or something and they are stocking up on the crystal or some weapon-- we have to fight!" She looked puzzled for a minute, then realization dawned on her face, then fear. She looked at me, and asked; "when did you hear this, and how?" I looked down at my feet, then replied, "I was flying in the woods as a raven and then I heard some voices arguing. I went to a branch and turned into a squirrel so I could check it out, and saw it was a pair of shades. They were talking about attacking us but they had to stalk up on crystals, I believe. They said they were going to attack us in a week, so I got worried and flew back here." Mom looked at me, then said, we have to go. I'm sorry, Ellie, but all of your friends are going to be in danger if we stay here. I'm going to need you to pack all your stuff up and leave. To keep the hunters off our trail, I'm going to turn into something really big for you guys to put your stuff on. We'll leave the car here, just so that they can't follow us. I somberly agreed, walking upstairs and a pair of suitcases to put all of my things in. I would miss my house, I grew up here and had so many memories. I felt angry, why couldn't we fight? It was our home, after all. I frustratedly stuffed all of my clothes into a part of one suitcase. I put all of my books in the other. I decided I would leave most of my toys here, save a couple that meant a lot to me. I got my shoes and put them into a bag. It took me a couple of hours, but I finally sorted in what to keep and what to leave. I kept the books that I hadn't read, some notebooks with pencils, erasers, colored pencils, and some art things. I also brought most of my clothes. I packed everything into my backpack and suitcases. Then I went to Eros's room. He was sitting on the floor, trying to stuff all of his legos into a bag. I instantly felt bad for him. He was younger and did not fully understand the circumstances that they were in currently. I went and sat next to him, and put the bag with his legos aside. He looked at me with bloodshot eyes, and I could see he was crying. I said gently, "I know you love them, but you can't keep all of your legos. Let's get your clothes and important things first, then we can think about those, okay?" He nodded mutely. We spent the next hour or so getting his clothes, notebooks, books, pencils, and all of his things of value that we could use wherever we were going. Then we moved to the legos. We kept about half of them, in the end. By that time, it was very late afternoon, and we rolled all of our things downstairs. Mom had hers, too, and she looked up at us. She said softly, "I'm so proud of you guys. I am. You are so brave." I smiled weakly. She went outside, and we followed her. She closed her eyes and concentrated. It must have been a really hard shift because one: my mom was naturally a really good shifter, and two: even for extremely experienced shapeshifters, big things were hard, especially if you hadn't seen them before. Soon a huge dragon was standing in front of me. It was reddish gold, coppery like. The head was frilled with horns, and there was a line of spikes along her back. She unfurled her wing, so that we could climb onto her back. I motioned for Eros to grab all of our bags, and mom's. We took them up, one at a time, until they were safely fastened between three spikes. I climbed up to the closest spinal spike close to her head and held on tight. Eros did the same, right behind me. My mom took off, flying into the sunset.
