I huff out, lugging various cleaning supplies in my arm into a random room that I was supposed to clean. Since everyone was on break, Levi thought it would be best to clean the entire headquarters as a replacement for training.
I mean, I don't mind cleaning as long as I don't have to run laps.
I sigh out, carefully placing the equipment down on a table in what seems to be a small library.
I didn't know the scouts had a library here.
I look at the books, my interest piqued to see that a majority of these were nonfiction. "Thank god. I'm not going to be bored!" I grin, flicking through the shelves and picking out a large stack of books I wanted to read before setting them down to take back to my room later. I grab a mask and put it on before putting on some gloves.
This room is filthy.
I feel my nose tingle and I let out a sneeze, horrified at the amount of dust that just picked up around me. "And I'm not going to stop sneezing now great. Thanks hay fever." I grumble out, taking my cloth and the windex bottle and going straight to business with cleaning the windows.
This is so boring.
I huff out, feeling anxious and bored at how silent it was in the room. "I wish I had music to listen to." I shrug and go back to cleaning, unconsciously humming as I scrubbed the tables and the walls.
"Do your thang, do your thang with me now
Do your thang, do your thang with me now.
What's my thang? What's my thang? Tell me now,
Tell me now, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
I danced as I hummed, singing softly and making sure no one heard me since I sound like a dying whale. "Killin' me now, killin' me now, do you hear me? Yeah." I hummed as I picked up a sponge, spinning around and cleaning the chairs along to the choreo moves I could barely remember. I raise my hands up in Jin's final position and I quickly bring them back down. "That's fucking embarrassing." I chuckle out, going to grab a broom to sweep the floor. I grin like a maniac, hearing the tune in my head. "SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME, THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME! I AIN THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHED!" I jump around, using the broom as my microphone as I swept the floor and the walls. I quickly shut up when I hear someone walk down the hallway and I snap my head to see two extras walk past and I let out a sigh in relief.
I don't want anyone to hear me sing.
I settle down and grab a duster before setting a small ladder against the wall. "I keep, going to the river to pray. 'Cause I need, something that can wash all the pain." I hum out again, singing quietly as I dusted the corners free of cobwebs and shit. "And at most, I'm sleeping all these demons away."
Been so long since I remembered this song...
"But your ghost, the ghost of you, it keeps me awake."
"What are you doing?" I scream in fright and jump back, shrieking as the ladder starts to topple over.
"Shit!" I try to reach out to grab something but I close my eyes, ready to break some bones but I don't feel any pain. Instead, I feel arms grab me and I look up to see Levi frowning while doing his famous 'tch'.
"You're an actual dumbass." I roll my eyes but my body warms up when I realise Levi was still holding me. I blush red, wriggling in his arms as he held me bridal style.
"Uh, you can put me down now." Levi sets me down, wiping his hands even though he was wearing gloves. He looks around, raising a brow at the library that was only somewhat clean.
"I thought I gave you enough time to clean. Clearly not since you were prancing around and singing."
Shit! He heard me!
"Since you clearly can't clean properly, it looks like I need to help you." Levi brushes past me, grabbing the windex cleaner and a cloth. I shrug and continue sweeping the floor, humming softly again. Levi and I clean the library without exchanging words, working in comfortable silence. The sun was starting to set when we finished, Levi standing on the ladder for one last sweep. I was holding the ladder as he cleaned the walls since he didn't trust me on it.
"Damn, Levi got some cake." I mumble to myself quietly as I look up at his dump truck ass and I see him freeze. I quickly whip my head away when he looks down on me, pretending to be staring outside.
"Go clean up for dinner. You're filthy." Levi climbs back down and grabs all cleaning supplies. "And get me first if you're climbing on ladders. I don't want you falling and breaking your bones like an idiot." Levi mutters out as he brushes past me, walking out of the library.
"I'm not that clumsy!" I call out to him, huffing in embarrassment as I grab my books and walk back to my room. I quickly took a shower and dressed in my hoodie and pj pants, walking back out of my bedroom while reading one of the books from the library. I had my nose glued on the book as I walked down the hallway to the mess hall, narrowing missing people.
"Whatcha reading!?" I hear Hanji before I felt her arms around my shoulders, guiding me to her table again.
"A book I found in your library." Hanji sighs out and I quickly glance at her to see her pouting at me since I wasn't paying her any attention.
"And we have another Arlet." I ignore the voice, flipping pages of the book as I read through it. "Oi brat, eat your dinner already." I look up and see Levi sitting next to me again, nudging a tray towards me.
"Ok."
I don't know how much time has gone by but Hanji suddenly bursts out laughing like a maniac. "(y/n)! I can't believe you said that Levi had a big ass!" I gasp and look up, seeing everyone snickering as Levi was glaring at Hanji like he wanted to see her 6 feet under.
"I-uh no! When!?" I stammer out and Levi sips his tea while his cheeks go red as Hanji pokes fun at him.
"In the library apparently!" Hanji cackles out and I quickly get up with my things.
"Imma head off early." I quickly leave the mess hall, hearing Hanji's laughter fade behind me.
I yawn out loudly as I flipped through the pages, laying down in my bed as I layered up in my blanket. It was ridiculously cold and I was layered up in shirts and a hoodie along with socks. Don't ask me.
I look over at the clock and gasp, seeing the time. "Shit! 3 in the morning!" I quickly sit up, looking around to use something as a bookmark but I didn't have any scrap paper.
Maybe I can grab one from Levi's office.
I get out of bed, groaning from how cold it was but I march onwards out of my bedroom. I quickly pad down to Levi's room next door, leaning against it to hear silence.
"Hopefully he's sleeping. He doesn't have any work." I slowly turn the doorknob, peering my head through to see the dark office space empty.
Yes!
I slip through, softly closing the door behind me and walking quietly to Levi's desk to try and find some paper. "What the fuck are you doing here!?" I jump when the lights turn on, turning around to see Levi in his pj's.
Holy shit he's hot.
He was wearing a thin white shirt and some pj pants, his hair a bit ruffled and messy as he threaded his fingers through it. "I was trying to find something to use as a bookmark..."
"In my office? Sneaking around like some criminal?" Levi raises a brow at me and I look at him sheepishly.
"So do you have any paper I could use?" I ignore Levi's last remark and he sighs, walking over to his desk to grab some for me. "So why are you awake so late?" I narrow my eyes at Levi as he passes me some paper.
"I should be saying the same thing to you."
"Too busy with reading. You should be sleeping." I fold the paper, ripping it into a small piece and slipping it into my book.
"What are you reading?" Levi nods to the book in my hands and I shrug.
"Some classic YA fiction about a girl being born not special but realising she's humanities last hope-hey! Stop changing the subject! You should be asleep!" I narrow my brows at Levi and he frowns, looking away.
"I... I couldn't sleep..." Levi mumbles out.
"Nightmares?" Levi nods and I frown. "Let's go." I nod towards Levi's bed, grabbing his arm and tugging him with me. I set Levi down on his bed gently and sit down next to him as he slips under the blanket.
"This is going to sound strange but... can you sing to me." I look at Levi in surprise as he had his back towards me.
"What?"
"Nevermind. Forget I asked-"
"-I don't mind but I sound terrible singing."
"Yeah, you sound like a dying titan." I scoff lightly at Levi's playful jab.
"Ok, then I won't sing." Levi quickly turns around, holding my wrist as I got out of bed.
"No please, I was joking." I chuckle, seeing Levi look so frantic and soft.
"I know." I settle beneath the blanket, letting Levi lay his head on my shoulder as I sang to him.
"Just close your eyes, the sun is going down,
You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now,
Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound."
I look down, seeing humanities strongest look so peaceful for the first time in ages, laying against me in almost a clingy childlike way.
He deserved some proper sleep.
He deserved so much more.
