Pilot-Flashback
She was in 1st grade when her elder brother, Mycroft, had let her come with him to pick up their other brother. They were to surprise Sherlock, who was in 3rd grade at the time.
"Oh Mycroft, he'll be so happy to see me!"
"Of course, Ebony," Mycroft replied.
It had rained the day before, so Ebony splashed in the puddles as she walked. It was ruining her white shoes, but she didn't care. She was too happy, too excited to care.
"And then we'll play cowboys. Or pirates, I know he likes that game more. And Redbeard will play too," She continued, referring to their dog. "Will you join, Mycroft?"
"No, I have much work to do."
"You ALWAYS have much work to do! Can you join us just once. Pleeeeease!"
She gave him the irresistable puppy dog eyes.
"I'm sorry Ebony, but I can't."
She huffed. At least she had Sherlock.
They sat by the playgroung for about ten minutes before Mycroft said he had to go make a call. Then, she was all alone.
Her heart lept when she caught sight of her sibling.
"Sherlock! I- Sherlock?"
A boy appeared behind Sherlock and shoved him into a brick wall.
"Hey Freak, what's happening?"
"Leave me alone."
"Aw don't be like that, Freak. All we want to do is play, don't we boys?"
Suddenly more boys appeared. The boy who spoke, most likely the leader, landed a punch on Sherlock's face. All of the cronies laughed.
Blood ran down his face.
"Come on Sherlock, we have to go." Said Mycroft, back from the call.
The middle sibling ran away from the bullies and covered his nose with his hand so Mycroft couldn't see.
When they went home, Sherlock didn't play pirates with her. He locked himself in his room. And though he would never admit it, she was sure he was crying.
That was the day she made the promise to herself. Sherlock had been different. Sherlock had been clever. She saw how they treated him.
That was the day she made the promise to herself that she would never use her ability to deduce in front of anyone. Ever.
