Some of my personal favourite parts
A/N Decided to make a little chapter consisting of my own favourite parts, either because they're important to the story, because I quite frankly find myself rather amusing or just because I liked them. So this is the authors favorite bits from prologue to chapter 6 (Dinner)
FROM PROLOGUE:
"Cecilia," I decided. He wrinkled his nose.
"Horrible name," he informed me.
"Yes," I agreed.
----------------------------------
FROM CHAPTER ONE 1 - 221B:
"Penrose?" he asked baffled.
"Hello, dad."
----------------------------------
"I know. Mother's dead." Sherlock's eyes sought his daughters to look for signs.
"I'm not lying," Macy stated; "I can see it. You're trying to deduce me. Go ahead. Look at my eyes. Flickering? Any reaction from the pupil? Body language. Look at my arms. Look at my stand." Sherlock followed the girls orders.
"I'm not lying, and you know it. But you are. What are you lying about?" she asked and took a step closer, getting caught up in her deductions.
"Oh! It's something about John Watson! No no, that's not it, you're not lying. Look me in the eyes!" she ordered.
"Oh. It's me. I'm the secret," she realised; "You don't want him to know about me."
"STOP DEDUCING ME!" Sherlock yelled, both hands flying towards his head where they covered his ears. He removed them slowly, looking at his daughter with rising interest.
"You thought that would impress me," he stated; "Well, it didn't. I want you out of here. Leave."
-------------------------
"If you ever need a job or commit a murder, you just call me," Greg mentioned to Macy, who grinned thankfully.
"Thanks Greg, I'll remember to mention your name when I commit to my murders," she promised. He looked up.
"Maybe just don't get caught!" he decided; "See ya John!"
------------------------
FROM CHAPTER 2 - FREAK JUNIOR
"Lestrade needs us," Sherlock stated; "He's meeting us at the crime scene."
"What happened?" she asked curiously as Sherlock swung his coat over his shoulders.
"Come on, John, you know they're helpless without us. There's a murderer on the loose," he mentioned while tying a scarf around his neck.
"Murders are the best!" Macy stated and got up from the chair she'd been placed in.
"No, you're 16, you're not coming," John decided quickly. Sherlock looked at his daughter.
"You heard the man. Get out," he ordered.
--------------------------
"You surely are your father's daughter, aren't you?" Macy sighed and nodded.
"I am, sadly. Would you like me to go over the rest of the scene to find the other stuff you've missed?" she offered and put on the blue gloves Greg handed to her.
"That'd be great, thanks. Maybe at the same time you could lose the attitude," he suggested, causing Macy to laugh loudly before following him into the house.
---------------------
FROM CHAPTER 3 - UNCLE:
"Well, then mind clearing it up for me?" John asked from his chair.
"Yes."
"Yes."
Macy rolled her eyes and sighed.
-----------------
"I suppose there were no one else to receive it," the detective mumbled and grabbed the papers from John's hand. He placed them on the shelf above the fireplace and stuck a knife in it. John looked confused at him.
"So I won't leave track of it," he explained. John didn't reply.
----------------
"She's gone," he stated.
"Who is?"
"Macy!" John cried, only to receive a confused look.
"Your daughter? Penrose?" he tried. Sherlock looked as if he'd suddenly figured out a great secret.
"Oh! Yes. So?"
-------------
"And you're going to care for her," he added. Sherlock looked up.
"John, I am in no way capable of handling a child like her. What do I do with it? Feed her? Buy her a rattle?" John rolled his eyes.
"She's almost seventeen, she's the daughter of a genius, I'm assuming she can mostly take care of herself. Make sure there's food in the fridge, that she not alone for too long and that she goes to school," he explained to Sherlock, who looked questioning at him.
"Yes. And school, when is that?"
"Oh for God's sake."
------------------------
FROM CHAPTER 4 - LETTER FROM THE DEAD:
"Right, mind having a word with your father and I in the living room?"
He nodded before closing the door. He looked at his friend.
"Good news. I found her."
"Are you sure she wasn't in there when you first looked, John?" Sherlock questioned.
---------------------
"I don't go to school," Macy replied quietly.
"That's against the law, Penrose," the father lectured sassily.
"Oh yeah, unlike the gun you have taped to the bottom of your chair. Don't you think I've noticed both that it's there and that you've been trying to avoid having me notice it? Clearly, it's not registered," she replied with self-confidence beeming.
"Stop deducing me!" Sherlock repeated himself, leaving Macy to smile provocatively.
"Enough, you two!" John interrupted.
-------------------
"What? No! I've never gone to school!" Macy cried out.
"Well, that'll just have to change because I have important grown up stuff to do and you being around me all day will be too distracting," Sherlock informed her.
--------------------------
FROM CHAPTER 5 - SCHOOL:
"What is this hellhole?" Macy anxiously whispered to John, who leaned over.
"Public school," he whispered back
---------------------------
"You'll do fine, okay?" John promised her.
"Or not. I don't care," Sherlock pitched in; "Can we go, John?"
--------------------------------
FROM CHAPTER 6 - DINNER:
"I take it you like... Food?" Sherlock asked in an attempt to conversate with his teenage daughter, who looked strangely ahead of herself as they walked.
---------------------------------
"Just curious. Has he always been-"
"Fat? Yes," Sherlock quickly replied, causing Macy to laugh loudly. She smiled and looked down before facing her fathers confused look again, this time with sparkling eyes.
"I meant to ask if he'd always been in control of his emotions as he is now," she explained with a smile.
"Oh."
--------------------------
"She doesn't live in England though," he stated. Macy looked to the couple again.
"Spain?" she suggested.
"Italy," Sherlock corrected while hiding a smile.
"Damn," Macy mumbled to herself and took another sip.
