--Toast's PoV--
I snapped awake, choking in breaths as I scanned the room I was in. All I could see was a blinding light on a table in front of me. With it there, it was impossible to see the rest of the room, and i was tied to a chair to the point where I could move my hands, but not far enough to touch the light source. My feet were duct tapped to the floor. "This feels like overkill..." I muttered, leaning foreword to have straps on my chest with the lock appearing to be under the seat stop me at my chest, I couldn't even reach under the chair, it was so thick. "Is anyone there?" I called out, looking around, only to be met by darkness I couldn't see past. I refuse to be the damsel in distress, though. I stared into the darkness to my left until I could make out the wall, glancing to the right, trying to readjust from the glaring light to be met with another wall. I groaned.
After a few minutes, I heard footsteps and a door open. I didn't even know there was a door in here, I thought maybe I was shoved in though an air vent or something, "hello?" I asked, softly.
"Glad to see your awake. Johnny Toast, right?" The voice responded. They sounded... familiar.
"Yes, that's me... and you are...?"
"Moriarty," they replied.
"Ok... good to meet you?" I tried, awkwardly. "Are you the guy who shoved my partner off a roof and had someone shoot me in the face?"
"Yep."
"Oh. Ok."
"You know, I didn't think of you two as much at all, much less with an ability that has invaded the thoughts of millions for over centuries... evading death." He chuckled a bit, "and you've never even looked to see how you do it, and your the sane one of your group."
I paused, "how do you know about Spooker and Colon?"
"Ah, through a little trick I like to call the internet and hacking their numbers from your phone." He replied, showing me the 'last called' screen. It was indeed Colon's number. My blood ran cold as I attempted to grab his hand be pull him where I could see him, but my moment of hesitation as just enough for him to slip away, leaving me to suddenly claw at the air in front of me.
"Why did you call him...?"
"I just told the two to come over," he audibly turned off his phone, "that there was something of extreme urgency going on here. Explained to them all about your drug attention, how you managed to land ghost in the hospital after getting a bit too off from macaroni, and are now suffering time in prison for it."
"I didn't do ANY of that!"
"And I didn't tell them any of that, but the text message is ready to be sent, with a few extra perks I forgot to mention, and John and Sherlock wouldn't choose Ghost over each other any day, heck I'm not sure if anyone he's with prefers him over you or Sherlock and John, and theres the injuries landing your childhood friend into the hospital." He laughed. "Oh I did tell them to come here, though. In case these next tests fail."
"Tests...?"
"I need to find out where this ability is coming from," he said, obviously bored at my cluelessness. "And the easiest way is to test with the lab rats. One tested at random with no information of the situation, one in captivity, tested hourly, one with free range tested every thirty minutes, two coming in through delivery, wonder what I'll do with them, oh wait. I already know."
I stared at him, "wait what do you-"
"Figure it out for yourself, prove to me you can. Maybe then I may consider switching places between you and Gavin, it'll make your friend a whole lot more relived." He was texting something into his phone again, "I have about, oh, fifteen minutes."
I started to think. One in captivity. I was in captivity, wasn't I? But I didn't know what situation Ghost was in... Colon and Spooker are traveling over, their the ones coming through delivery, that's one thing out of the way. Wait what if he wants me to guess how he'll test them? And why is Gavin getting preferable treatment? I groaned and started looking for any help with this bizarre weirdness. "One in captivity... I'm a captive...? Am I the one in captivity?"
"No hints." He said. He was smiling, wasn't he? That's a little irksome... well... the one tested at random... was that Gavin? No, it can't be, I can switch places with him and I know about the situation... colon? No... maybe?
"You can't expect me to do this."
"I don't expect you to. Surprise me." I wanted to scream. "This is entirely option, you know. You can just sit here in silence and find out what you are the hard way."
I racked my brain. Who else was here? Does he know about the Acachallas... no, he wouldn't... but he rummaged through my contacts- wait they never told me about their idea of visiting online, Gertrude told me last Ghost we banished, and papa looked ready to change his mind when I told her about our idea of a trip... Maloney! He knows about Maloney! "Maloney' tested randomly!" I blurted, feeling jitteriness.
"Go on." He said, unemotionally.
I thought. "Am I the one in captivity?"
"No. Hints. Seven minutes in, Johnathan, better hurry." Is he smiling? He's talking no unemotionally, but I feel like he should be smiling.
"I don't know." I muttered.
"Disappointing."
"I know-"
"Tests start in thirty minutes, be sure to shoot him in the chest, not the head, he's apparently lost enough intellect from blunt force." He turned his attention back to me. I heard someone leave the room.
"We weren't al-" I was abruptly stopped by him.
"Shame. I personally prefer you over your brother, but just obey the rules, and nothing happens. Sure you'll be looked for, but honestly it might take even Sherlock awhile, he's going to be a bit busy."
"What if I attempt something, get arrested, and die in jail? Won't I respawn outside? Then I can kill ghost an-"
"... you disappoint me." He groaned, "then you'd be wanted. I'd be actively keeping you away from the hospital, and by breaking out you have committed a second felony. You'll be hunted like a dog, restlessly, and until your caught you will be tormented by my snipers day and night. Sounds fun?"
"I-"
"Good bye, Johnathan. Have a good thirty minutes." He placed something on the table and a ticking noise started.
"Is that a-"
"Timebomb or an alarm clock? Have fun guessing between the two." He closed the door behind him.
The light blocked my view of the sound.
