Shock Value (SherlockxReader)
You didn't know exactly how to tell Sherlock yet, but you knew you wanted it to be an absolute surprise. Do anything to add to the 'shock value', you know?
It was true you and Sherlock couldn't be considered a normal couple. But after you'd found out your exciting news, you knew it was the perfect time to get back at Sherlock for the three years he was 'dead', and him crashing your engagement party to tell you he was actually still alive. So, here in front of his brother, parents, best friend, God daughter, and many other your clinked you were going to announce it, and hope for the best from him. You honestly didn't know what to expect. Eventually, Mycroft came up to talk to you.
"I do hope Sherlock will have a little class." He informed you, voice high and mighty as ever. Despite his constant disputing with his younger brother, you actually quite liked Mycroft. He was a good person, with a big heart, contrary to what he wanted you to believe.
"Hm?" Your brow furrowed as you tried to figure out if he knew or not.
"Don't play dumb, I'm smarter than Sherlock, of course I know." You laughed at your own silliness. He was right, he was Mycroft Holmes, after all.
"I do suppose you're right. I do hope you haven't told Sherlock, yet." Based on his small smirk, that he always tried to hide when he was up to something, he hadn't.
"No, I figured it'd be more entertaining to let you do that yourself. Though, I must say, you've done an amazing job in hiding it." That had to be the closest thing Mycroft had ever given you to a compliment. It felt... Good. Very good.
"Why, thank you, Mycroft." Sherlock came up behind you, glaring at his older brother as he wrapped his arms around your waist from behind.
"Why thank this urchin? Do you have no one else to bother, Mycroft?" He spat the amen like it was an insult in itself. Mycroft sighed and you shared a knowing look.
"I hope you do not disappoint, y/n, my dear." You gave him a small salute.
"When do I ever?" He smiled, genuinely at you. If Mycroft thought anyone was good or right for Sherlock, it was you. You were naturally patient and knew how to keep everything good-natured. He had no doubt this was a good thing. He nodded once to you, before stalking off to speak with his own husband, Greg.
"Whatwashe talkingabout?" Sherlock immediately asked, most of his words running together into barely understandable mush.
"Oh, nothing. Just the New Years speech I have." You explained, not completely lying. Sherlock nodded once, before kissing your temple and heading off to find John and play with his god daughter, Evangeline. You walked around the party, talking to this person and that, until it was only a little bit until the New Year.
"Everyone, I have a speech I'd like to give." Everyone turned towards you, listening intently on what you had to say.
"This year has been full of love, and heartbreak," Directed towards John's no Mary, but also Molly, "Surprise, and boredom," Only to Sherlock, "But I am terribly afraid to say the surprises aren't over in these dwindling minutes." Everyone muttered amongst themselves, confusion following each trail left by whispered words. The only one who didn't say anything was Mycroft, but his sly smile said it all to you.
"Hold on, let me finish." You laughed and they all shut their mouths to listen.
"At the beginning of this year, I made a similar speech at a similar party, meant for my engagement. Luckily, it was broken up by our very own consulting detective." Everyone turned toward Sherlock, expressions varying, but his remained flat as he tried to remember what had been said during the speech in question.
"But that isn't the only thing he's done this year that will likely effect him for the rest of his days." People were still confused, but noticing you didn't have a glass, Mary went to retrieve a simple glass of champagne.
"This year Sherlock has affected us all in ways that are both good and bad, but I think I definitely take the cake for most affected." Everyone laughed at the small joke as Sherlock studied you, then Mycroft, and back to you to figure out what he'd missed. Mary handed you the glass, and you held up a finger.
"But I'm afraid I cannot toast into this New Year with you all." Muffled confusion over took the audience, and Sherlock began creeping forward, the statement connecting dots together, albeit slowly. The countdown began playing, shutting everyone up.
"Because I am entering the New Year... As a new mum." There were suddenly excited cheers as people came up and hugged you. John practically squished you, but Sherlock stayed glued to his place.
"Wait-" John held onto your shoulders, "That's also means..." His eyes drifted to Sherlock who looked paler than a sheet.
"Brother mine, I am afraid this means you have some ring shopping to do." Mycroft stated as everyone stared at Sherlock for a second, still eagerly waiting for John to finish.
"Sherlock, it looks like you're kicking in the New Year with some parenting manuals!"
