Surprise

"Nice shot, Emma", Sherlock said. "Looks like all that 'training' helped you." He laughed. "He said he wasn't stupid. Even I saw it coming."

Emma laughed and dried her tears. "How could he not see me changing my target at the last second? And Sherlock? He was always stupid. It's just, he was my friend once. Even putting all that aside, I killed someone."

"You killed a dead man, Emma", Sherlock got up and comforted her.

"Yeah. We should probably text Lestrade."

Sherlock got out his phone and texted Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson ran up the stairs.

"I heard a gun shot, is everyone..." she looked at the dead body. "Okay?"

Emma immediately ran from Sherlock to stop Mrs. Hudson from fainting. "Lets just say, Mrs. Hudson, we solved the case."

"Lestrade will be here in a few minutes", Sherlock said.

"What did you text him?" Sherlock brought his phone over to Emma.

'Lestrade, I need you here ASAP. Case closed.

-SH'

"He'll probably show up with a few back up cars", Sherlock told her as she handed back his phone.

Emma heard a bunch of sirens coming down the street, getting louder and louder, until they stayed at the same volume right outside 221 B.

"A few?"

------------

Mrs. Hudson was sitting on a chair while Sherlock, Emma, and Lestrade stood around the body. The rest of Scotland Yard waited outside.

Lestrade turned his head, looking at the body. "I don't get it", he said.

Emma looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Don't get what?"

What was there to get? Emma killed the murderer, Sherlock texted 'case closed'. What is there to get?

"Why him", Lestrade said. "He looks familiar."

"He faked a suicide before", Sherlock said.

"And now he finally came out of the shadows", Emma joined. "He was my friend, a pretty terrible one at that, but he was a good murderer. Then he messed up."

Lestrade looked up from the body, "Messed up?"

Emma sat down in John's chair and gestured for Sherlock to explain.

"He said something in the message that made Emma realize who it was. It was her last name."

"I still don't get it", Lestrade said, looking down again at the body.

Emma watched him, "You're going to have to be more specific."

"Well, the apple watch, Sherlock said something about it being the same one both times. I know you took it from the evidence bag, so how did it get to the next victim?"

Emma turned her head towards the apple watch that was on the table, "How did it get here?"

Sherlock turned it on, but it was password protected. He quickly put in the code from the previous, and last, victim's tattoo.

"It all ends today", Sherlock read aloud. "But it was fun watching you two try and figure it out."

"He was in 221 C", Emma realized. "He was always watching us, knowing when to take the watch and when to bring it back. The reason why we couldn't trace the phone number"

"Is because there was no phone", Sherlock ended the sentence for her. "All the texts were being sent to the watch from the watch. The effect that it was from a different device was because he put a delay on the texts."

"Now it's even more complicated, but I'm starting to get it", Lestrade said. Men walked in and put the body into a bag, probably bringing it to St. Bart's, a special treat for Molly.

"Sherlock, I have to go write a report now", Lestrade told them. "But no doubt after we leave will you be swarmed with press. Good luck."

Lestrade picked up the watch and walked down the stairs and out the door. After getting in his car and leaving, all the other cars followed suit.

Emma got up from John's chair and watched from the window. "Do the press always come to you after you solve a murder?"

"Yes."

She looked over to him, "Does it ever get annoying?"

"Only when I'm forced to wear the hat."

Emma laughed. "Why don't we switch it up a bit?"

Sherlock looked puzzled. "Switch it up?"

"Yeah." Emma put his coat on, letting her brown hair fall onto her shoulders. She then looked towards the door. "Come on, they're waiting."

Sherlock walked over to the mantle and picked up the deerstalker hat. He threw it over to her and she swiftly caught it, placing it on her head. She turned around and walked down the steps, mumbling the words 'wear the damn hat.'

She opened the front door where cameras immediately went off, and so did a confused expression between the crowd. Sherlock appeared behind her and told everyone that Emma would explain this time.

Surprise.
