chapter 46 (plz read the A/N)
~Shailene~
We're going over to Ruth's place for dinner tonight. Ansel and Violetta are going to come over too.
All of our kids are off to college. Except for Ruth. So, we decided to have this weekly dinner where we'll sit and talk about the good old days. All of us are supposed to make on dish each. I decided on lasagne.
I take the dish out of the oven and set it on the counter to cool off a bit. After a few minutes I cover it with foil.
"Ready?" Theo asks, as he comes down.
"Yeah." I reply motioning to the dish.
We drive over to Ruth's house. Ansel's car is already parked outside the house. I ring the bell. The door's opened by Ansel.
"Hey!" I say, as I reach out to hug me.
"We've been waiting for you guys." He tells us.
I pull away from him and lead the way to the dinning room. Ruth and Violetta are setting the table. I put the lasagne next to the grilled fish and pot pie.
We sit down to dinner and eat in silence. Till Ansel speaks up.
"Remember high school?" He asks.
"Yeah. How can I forget?" I raise an eyebrow at him.
"Maybe we can but Theo never will." Violetta says.
"Right." Ruth and I say together, nudging Theo.
"Can you two stop it? I still wake up in the night sweating like crazy thinking about those days." He says.
"He does?" "You do?" Ruth and I ask together.
"Actually, I kind of liked it." Theo tells us.
"Liked what?" I ask him.
"I liked when you and Ruth fought over me." He replies, making everyone laugh. I slap his arm lightly.
"I can't believe we actually got married to two of the populars." Violetta says to me.
"Sometimes I can't either." I agree.
"Ruth, Theo and I were the popular kids. And you..." He scrunches his nose in a teasing manner.
"So what if we were less popular than you guys! You are stuck with us anyways." Violetta points out. And I nod my head in agreement.
"So much has changed now." Ruth says.
"I know. But what context are you talking in?" Theo asks her.
"Me and Shailene! The way we used to treat each other is so different from how we do now." She explains.
"We used to hate each other." I say.
Theo adds. "But you two had one thing in common then."
"What?" Ruth asks him.
"Me." He replies.
"You?" I ask him.
"Yep. You both wanted me to marry you." He says.
"Shut up!" Ruth screams, throwing her napkin at him and I mess up his hair. We all end up laughing till our stomachs hurt.
This chapter has a purpose. Yes, it's a filler chapter. But it's something bigger than that. Something that I realized some time ago and want to share with you guys.
It's about Ruth and Theo. Please don't stop reading. Read it to the end and hopefully you'll understand.
The whole time, I've hated Ruth. Most of you do too. But this isn't right of us.
This is because she's human. She lives in this world. She knows what internet is. She must have come across all the hate the we give her.
My point is that she has feelings too. It's a human thing, everyone does.
Just think for a moment. If you were in her place, how would you feel?
Terrible and hurt, of course.
It's her life as well Theo's that we ruin when we write fanfics that make her look bad. We don't even know what type of a person she is. For all we know she might be the nicest person alive.
We all want SHEO to happen. But that doesn't necessarily mean that we start hating Ruth. We want Theo to be happy. At least this is what a true fan would want.
So, if being with is what makes him happy, then let him be. And if being with Nakho is what makes Shai happy then let them be.
I'm not saying that fanfics should not be written. But what I'm saying is that we should stop hating Ruth because she's human too.
This is pretty much it. Sorry for taking up so much of your time but I just had to let you guys know.
