"Well, that didn't exactly go as expected. At least nobody important died."
My head whipped around to glare at the boy. My eyes stung with tears. "Nobody important? NOBODY IMPORTANT?!" I screamed. "WAS SHE NOT IMPORTANT TO YOU?" I asked. "She sacrificed herself for you, for all of us, and you're saying she wasn't important?" I asked.
"Let's be real here. Before now, what has she done to help? Nothing." He spat at me. I shook my head furiously. I couldn't, not right now.
Turning around, I ran into the forest behind us.
Away from him, who I trusted with my life, but I was starting to wonder if he'd even remember me, the girl who had gotten us this far in our journey, if I died in battle.
She was one of my best friends. If it weren't for her, he'd be dead, and he has the nerve to call her unimportant.
I looked at the various cuts and bruises covering my body. I sighed, running my finger over them. The cuts instantly sealed up at my touch. 'Simple healing magic. Glad this was the worst of it.' I thought. Anything worse, I'd need someone more powerful. And I wasn't exactly in the mood to speak to anyone else right now.
'She was good at healing magic' I thought. God, everything reminded me of her.
I sat down, leaning against a tree. Tears were spilling down my face now as the moment replayed in my mind.
Her magic created a barrier. It kept us separated from them. They were stronger. The partition got damaged. With one last attempt at strengthening it, she did it. The barrier not only reinforced itself, but shoved them back until they had no choice but to retreat.
I remembered looking at the barrier and thinking about it. 'Nothing is that strong with just magics.' I thought. That's when I noticed it. Glancing back at her, I saw a finger, then two, then her whole hand, just disappear. Vaporized into thin air.
She gave herself to protect us.
As I ran to her, she started looking less like a person and more like a glitch. Something digital that had made its way into reality, but was now leaving, going back to its own computerized home.
There wasn't even a body. Just a bunch of pixels that hovered in the air for a moment after she disappeared, then left with the rest of her.
