Grace Arising
In a garden
dark and overgrown
I watched for the moonflower
as the starlight danced
among the weeds
The low tones
long and deep
of the bullfrogs
seemed to keep
every hour
while most sleep
There the timid
and the meek
The trolls and fairies
seemed to speak
as they stretched
their hands
and stood upon
their tiny feet
Seeing the patience
in my tired eyes
waiting for that fabled bloom
and knowing deep inside
that I was not
long from my tomb
A gentle sprite
kind and lean
set upon my
hopeless scene
and spoke aloud
an incantation
unfamiliar in its
recitation
Yet there and then
the shadow rays
parted for the light
And the moon reached down
toward her sound
on that summer night
Ere I knew
what spell was wrought
and without time
for deep thought
the flower woke
as if from dreaming
and opened petals
and stretched to greet
the heavens' light
now beaming
What beauty
had I not beheld
in all my days
and my heart swelled
For no bloom
such as this
had ever felt
the sun's own kiss
And yet that light
still found its way
to reach the untamed
flower bed
and found an even
grander display
of grace arising
in the night
