43 The Stranger at Your Door

POV Jack

"You should really eat," I said as I handed Elsa a chocolate bar. She shook her head and I see her embracing herself. We've been in the waiting room for four hours now. I see how she closes her eyes and squeezes her arms. I sat next to her and I pull her to lean on my shoulder.

"Who would hurt her like that," Elsa said quietly and squeezed my arm.

"Anna is really stubborn sometimes. I mean she was even beating me up. No bullet will keep her away from you," I whispered and I kissed her forehead.

"Thank you," Elsa said sadly and started sobbing. Kristoff was sitting on another seat, staring at his hands and staying quiet.

I entwined my fingers with Elsa's. She was devastated when Kristoff called her about Anna. Anna had been staying at her shop to close the place up and someone shot her at nearby alley. The shooter got away and now she's at the surgery.

It's almost 11pm and suddenly the twin doors open. A doctor walks in while pulling his surgery mask away from his face. My heart paused for a moment as I tried to read from him what had happened.

I stood up with Elsa, she took some support from me. Kristoff came to us.

"Ms. Arendelle and Mr. Björkmann," the doctor started but Elsa took my hand.

"Mrs Overland," Elsa corrected and I lifted my eyebrow as I glanced at her.

"Mrs Overland, your sister is now in waking up room. Her injuries were severe but now she's stable. You can see her tomorrow," the doctor smiled.

The sound that Elsa made, it was a mix of laughing and sobbing. She looked at me and gave me a hug while laughing. I rubbed her back. "Told you that she's stubborn," I whispered to Elsa's ear.

"Mmhm.." Elsa mumbled and then I felt her arms letting go.

"T-thank you," Elsa stuttered to the doctor as she turned to face him again.

"I'm glad that I was able to help--," the doctor started but then gasped. I narrowed my eyebrows and then I looked at Elsa. My eyes widened as I saw Elsa looking dizzy. Then it happened, she lost her balance and she started falling.

"Elsa!" I said as I tried to grab her. I was too late as well as the doctor when our heads bumped against each other. Elsa fainted and fell to floor.

"Els, wake up," I said as soon as I got on my knees to the floor. The doctor placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Mr. Overland, we can check on your wife. She just needs some rest, she's been worrying a lot," the doctor smiled and I slowly nodded my response.

Some nurses came and took Elsa to some tests and into a room.

Kristoff patted my back, "I'm sure that she's fine soon." He smiled and sounded relieved.

"Yeah. You should go and wait that Anna wakes up," I smiled to Kristoff as I started walking after the nurses that took Elsa.

"Jackson," Kristoff said aloud.

"Yup?"

"Since when you've been my brother-in-law? What did I miss?" He sounded curious and I started coughing.

"Anna knew, didn't she?" Kristoff sighed and I nodded my head while blushing.

"Well. Glad that it was you," Kristoff said and then went to follow the doctor to where they kept Anna.

When I got into Elsa's room the nurses had finished their tests. Elsa was laying on the bed and slowly started to sit as I got into room.

"Well?" I asked as I sat on a chair.

"Nothing. They say that it was just exhaustion. I feel just fine," she smiled and I took her hand.

"I really hate this," I laughed.

"Holding my hand?" Elsa sounded irritated and raised her voice.

"Seeing you on hospital bed. You're giving birth to our daughter at home," I grinned.

"Huh? Daughter? You want a girl?" She whispered and I winked my eye.

"She would be the most beautiful girl in the world," I whispered. Elsa smiled back a little and her nose wrinkling up made me laugh.

"You're out of control Mr. Overland," Elsa sighed and threw the blanket from her.

"Umm.. planning to get up?" I raised my eyebrow.

"They said that I can leave any time I want," Elsa said strictly and jumped up from the bed.

I saw how she trembled a bit and when I tried to help her she just pushed me aside. "I can handle it," she grinned and started walking.

"Okay," I replied and went after her. I sighed.

"Heard that. Are you frustrated?" She sounded like she was teasing me.

"No. Not at all," I told her.

When we were almost out from the room she stopped on her tracks. "Is something wrong?" I asked and touched her shoulder. Her hand went over her mouth and she turned around. She was pale looking and she pushed me aside, rushing inside the toilet.

"Els?" I whispered as I opened up the door. She was embracing the toilet seat and I heard the sound of flushing the toilet.

"Uh... I just thought that what if Anna had died," she said while her voice shivered.

"Umm.. I wonder how you managed to do that because you've hardly eaten anything," I said as I kneeled next to her. I wiped her hairstrand away from covering her eyes.

Her arms wrapped around my waist and she buried her face against my chest. "Are you really okay to leave from the room? You could rest a little," I said as I rubbed her back.

"I'm fine Frost. As long as you're here .. I know that I'm safe," she said and held me tighter.

"We could spent some more time on the toilet floor then," I chuckled and she slapped my chest. When I pouted she gave me a playful grin while her fingers played with my hair. She was like wondering something.

"What now?" I laughed.

"I like you this way too. Brown or white hair, I love you anyway," she smiled.

"Aren't you paying attention to details all of a sudden," I smiled.

"Mmhmm.." She mumbled and closed her eyes. Her body flinched all of a sudden and she exhaled.

"Are you okay?"

"I feel nauseous. They said that fainting like that can cause this," she whispered.

"That's it. You and I are going home. We can come to see Anna tomorrow. She needs her sleep too, like you," I told her as I stood up. I took a hold of her hand as I pulled her up.

POV Hiccup

My stomach was really full after having dinner. Actually it was my first meal for the day. I spent the whole morning working with new program. It finally worked out and just in time.

While I was tapping on my keyboard and planning a new robbery I noticed something happening from the corner of my eye.

"Stop messing with my keyboard Toothless!" I groaned as I rolled with my chair to my other desk. Toothless had been jumping over it and making a mess on my third computer.

"I know that you're doing it on purpose buddy," I said as I stared into hit green eyes. It narrowed them, like he was mocking at me. Again it jumped on the keyboard and caused the screen to open up.

"Geez! You're ruining my programming that I'm loading into motherboard!" I whined as I lifted him up. Toothless frowned. He is the oddest cat.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door so I grinned and went to open it. I was expecting Mer today, we should plan our wedding that's almost at the door. Some last minute preparations.

However it wasn't Merida at my door but a tall strong build man. I couldn't see his face because he was wearing a hooded coat. "Umm.. how may I help you?" I raised my eyebrow.

"Are you Hiccup Haddock?" He said with his raspy voice.

"Yeah, who is asking?" I chuckled. The man took a step forward and I flinched, trying to close the door behind me. He had an enormous dog tailing at him.

"It's not your concern," he said coldly and pushed the door open. It made me fall on the floor and I crawled on my back further away from him. I'm getting a bad feeling right now. Really bad.

Quickly I turned around and started to crawl my way back up. I quickly grabbed my phone from the table and I run towards the living room, hearing his fast steps getting closer and closer. My heart is racing.

I'm dialing a number. And then I hear a muffled bang. It made me collapse, the weight was too much as my prosthetic leg gave in. I fell and the phone flew into distance that I couldn't reach. "Crap," I mumbled as I kicked myself forward with my own leg. I glance at my fake leg, the mechanism is broken. Then I look at my threatener, he has a devious grin on his face that was like shaped harshly from clay. He had a beard and his black hair was on dreadlocks.

"Who are you!" I gulped. "Can't we just talk and make this misunderstanding out?" I laughed nervously.

"I'm Drago Bludvist, the Dragon God," he laughed.

"OH SHIT!" I shouted as I quickly kicked myself around. I continued kicking myself forward with my back facing the way where I was going. Just few more feet. I definitely need to get away.

Then my back hit the wall and I noticed my phone. I grabbed it and then I took support from the wall as I pushed myself up. I'm panting while I look at my opponent. He is one of the Nightmares. Known as Dragon God, the one who is the best hit man ever known.

Drago groaned when I quickly dialed the number. I heard the alarm beeping and I run my way behind the couch while limping and taking support from my one leg. It's exhausting.

"Trying to slip away? Boy," he laughed and was circling around the couch behind of me. His dog was sitting in the middle of the hallway.

"C'mon, pick up!" I begged as I waited.

"Jack," I heard his voice.

"TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH! They're after me! They try to--," I started but then I felt strong hands on my shoulders. I feel a dry hand taking my phone from me and my face lost it's color.

I could hear Jack's muffled voice yelling.

"Who are after you! HICCUP!" Jack yelled but Drago grinned while lifting the phone on his ear.

"Me," Drago said and threw my phone against the wall.

I struggled myself free on that moment and I limped to kitchen. I heard Drago cursing and Toothless meowing angrily. I look over my shoulder to see how Toothless is clawing at him.

Then the dog growled and attacked on Toothless. "Run buddy!" I yelled and I heard how he hissed as he ran to bookshelf, just avoiding the big jaws of the grey beast.

I got into kitchen.

A knife. Spoon. Fork. Pan. JUST ANYTHING!

I was about to reach the counter when I saw a narrow shining thing going over my head. I felt how some pressure came into my neck, how something was digging inside my skin and closing my airways.

It tightened and made me gasp, I lift my hand on my neck as I noticed that it was a loop. A metallic wire.

Then I couldn't breathe, I was just trying to get air. My fingers couldn't get under the string that was tightening more and more around my neck.

I fell to floor and I see from the corner of my eyes how Drago kneels next to me. His knuckles are white as he pulls the string tighter. My vision gets blurry and I feel my heart beat on my neck. My body is twitching and I hear the muffled sound of my cat battling with the dog.

It's true.

How the most important things of your life flash before you on the edge of your death.

Blurriness was spreading from the corners of my vision. Darker, blacker and sounds getting silent. At first I was scared but then my body relaxed, I couldn't feel the fear anymore. I just felt my veins bumping, my heart beat slowing down.

Then cool air filled my lungs. It felt so good and I started to see things around me. I kept on gasping for air and with my trembling fingers I pulled off the wire that was around my neck. It made me cough.

"Get up! Now!" I heard and a soft pale hand took mine.

"He won't be out that long," I glance at Merida who lifted my hand over his shoulder.

"P-phone," I mumbled.

"Let's get you out," she whispered and started pulling me out. She tried to act calm but I saw her concern. I could read her like an open book.

"No. I need to c-call Jack, "I coughed.

"Later," Merida said but I made us stop.

"I need to call now! He might come here," I said to her. Merida nodded her head and gave me her phone. Toothless ran to circle around me. I heard some scratching sound from my bathroom, then the dog started barking.

"Locked the beast," Merida grinned. I saw her knuckle being bruised. I just got saved by a girl.

"HICCUP! I'm soon there!" Jack shouted.

"M-Merida found me, helped me," I mumbled.

"Great. Just wait," Jack said.

"No. Let's see at your place," I said to him and then I hang up.

"So we're going to Overland?" Merida sounded irritated.

"Mer, I have something to tell you. About me and him," I said as I rubbed my neck.

"Okay," Merida said slowly and raised her eyebrow. She helped me into her car.

"Start explaining," Merida said as she climbed onto driver's seat. Toothless hopped into my lap and curled himself to sleep.

"My best friend is Jackson Overland and my name truly is Hiccup Haddock. However I hold a big secret," I started and Merida started up the car. She drove from the yard

"Don't give me a reason to dumb you just before our wedding," she groaned.

"Mer. I'm a criminal," I sighed.

"You? Don't give me a laugh!" She laughed hard.

"I'm serious. I plan the robberies for Snowflake Burglar. My best friend is Jackson Overland who we also know as Snowflake Burglar," I whispered.

"Mmhmm.. You know, I've been waiting that you would tell me," Merida mumbled.

"What?"I gasped.

"Some time ago I found out that the cops had figured out his identity. So I kinda sneaked into secret records and got some info. My dad is a great cop but sometimes he forgets his keycard into wrong place," Merida shrugged.

"Before or after punching Jack?" I asked.

"After. I would have punched him in any case," Merida grinned. Then she cleared her throat and glanced at me angrily, "Don't keep any more secrets from me."

"No. I'm going to be honest from now on," I chuckled.

"So why that person wanted you dead? You know that my heart almost stopped working when I found him strangling you. I just wanted to decide the menu for our wedding. Definitely didn't want my future husband to die in front of my eyes!" She said quickly and I saw her blushing. She really cares, after all. Beneath her harsh surface is a caring girl that I love.

"Because Jack caused them trouble," I said quietly.

"Who?"

"The Nightmares," I told her and her eyes widened.

"That's bad," she whispered.

"Yup. Indeed it is," I agreed as she drove to Jack's drive way. Jack was pacing around the yard and Elsa was sitting on the steps.

"Why is Elsa here?" Merida asked as she parked the car.

"They are married," I told her as I got out from the car.

"MARRIED!" Merida shouted as we stepped out.

Jack and Elsa both startled to Merida's words.

"You married that jerk!" Merida yelled to Elsa who blushed.

"Y-yeah," Elsa said quietly and glanced at Merida who was panting.

"If you do anything stupid I will kill you," Merida went to poke Jack's chest and he lifted his hands up. Then Jack noticed me and took couple running steps to my side of the car. He hugged me quickly and patted my back. His body started shaking.

"He was really worried about you," Elsa said gently as she came to us. Jack let go of me and avoided eye contact, he wiped his eyes to his sleeve. He had been crying.

"Merida was in time," I smiled to Jack who nodded his head.

"So.. Snowflake Burglar.. " Merida said in remarkable tone. She glanced at Elsa, as if she tried to see her reaction to his identity.

"She knows," Jack sighed and glared at me.

"She had known for some time already," I said quietly and Jack pushed me from my shoulder.

"How's Anna doing by the way?" Merida asked from Elsa.

"So now she just ignores the fact that she knows who I am?" Jack raised his voice.

"She's much better. We got back from seeing her when you called for Jack's help," Elsa smiled and looked at me.

"Nice! I'm going to see her tomorrow. And I'm going to talk to daddy about getting Hiccup some police protection," Merida raised her eyebrow as she looks at me. Toothless pawed his way to Elsa and was circling around her feet.

"I can handle myself," I groaned but Merida started laughing.

"Yeah right. The Nightmares are bad for your health. You need some police protection," Merida chuckled and patted my cheek. She climbed into her car and drove off.

"The Nightmares?" Jack questioned and I nodded my head.

"It was Drago Bludvist," I told them and I rubbed my sore throat.

"Dragon God. Oh, I'm so glad that you're safe now," Elsa gasped and gave me a tight hug. She started sobbing and I rubbed her back.

"What's up with her?" I mouthed without saying anything to Jack.

'Dunno.' Jack mouthed back.

"Uhh.. I feel sick... h-he could have... k-killed you and skinned you..no.. wait.. skin you alive," Elsa said in panic. I saw her turning pale as she let go. Then she slammed her hand on her mouth and held her stomach while she rushed inside Jack's house.

"She's been like that for whole day.. At first when Anna got hurt she couldn't handle food.. now you caused her to panic.. I'm going after her, please come in and make yourself at home," Jack sighed and climbed up the stairs. I followed him from the front door and he went towards the bathroom.

I went into living room where Emma was listening to music.

"Hey Ems," I greeted her and I sat on the couch.

"Hiccup! Pleasant surprise," Emma giggled.

"Yeah," I whispered.

"You sound a bit down?" Emma said.

"Umm.. rough afternoon," I laughed nervously.

"Well when you want to talk about it, I'm here," She said calmly and changed the song.
