As a child, one of my favorite movies was The Swan Princess. If it were a Disney movie, Odette would probably be my favorite Disney princess. It wasn't until many years later that I discovered that the story was based on Swan Lake, a ballet by Tchaikovsky. I've wanted to write a retelling of this story for a long time. The only problem was that I wanted to transpose the story into a new genre, and I wasn't quite sure how. This past December it clicked: mystery. I haven't written a murder mystery novel before, so we'll see how this goes.

While creating the plot of this novel, I've combined elements from both the original ballet and the movie, such as critical beats/ plot points. However, I've switched some of the character roles around, just to make things interesting. The chapters in this novel are probably going to be shorter in this novel compared to previous works. As a result, the beginning may seem like not very much is going on. But once the story gets going, the pace should pick up.

This is the first draft of the novel, meaning little to no editing of the chapters. If you see any mistakes or have any feedback for me, feel free to let me know! I appreciate any and all comments, whether they be reactionary or constructive.

This story is dedicated to my sister (again). What can I say? I love writing sister stories. We both love the story of Swan Lake, and she and I brainstormed the plot together (though there are some twists I added in that will surprise her).
