Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Bruce's POV
I'm driving Liz and I back to Stark Tower. Both of us are on cloud nine. I'm so happy and Hulk is even happy for me despite being reluctant to share Liz with me at times. I think he's just so happy knowing she'll be his too for the rest of our lives. We took my car to dinner despite Tony offering to pay for a limo for us. I declined politely, he did enough for us tonight. Dinner was amazing and the proposal went successfully. When Liz went to use the bathroom before we left, I texted the Avengers in a group text to tell them the great news because I couldn't wait any longer to do so. All of them responded back with "Congrats" or variations of it. Tony sent an essay on how happy he was to help out, which is a bit unlike him to be honest.
The traffic is heavy tonight but I'm weaving through it pretty well. As I'm about to get on the highway, a trailer truck comes out of nowhere and collides into my car. It's like the world is moving in slow motion yet incredibly fast. Liz's head hits the windshield quite hard and her body is stuck in a weird position. Meanwhile all I got is a few scrapes from broken glass and possibly a slight concussion. The driver of the trailer truck gets out of his truck, smirks at us, and looks like he's about to run off. I don't even bother containing Hulk because I'm so pissed at this guy. I let Hulk nearly murder the guy before the cops come to deal with him and I shift back into myself and ride with Liz in the ambulance to the hospital.
I'm so nervous for Liz. She's out cold right now and the paramedics are telling me that she might not having any feelings below her waist for a long time, possibly permanently. I want to go find that truck driver and actually kill him this time around. I press a few fingers to my temple and rub it gently. I need to calm down. I need to be strong for Liz. What breaks my heart the most is that she always seems to take the blows rather than me. I can handle it more than she can... yet she got hurt badly again. It's all my fault, it always is.
I stay with Liz once she gets admitted into the hospital. I silently watch several tests be ran on her. I also text the Avengers and let everyone know I'm at the hospital. Steve said he'd come by with anything Liz and I. I texted him a short list of things we need like clothes, food, feminine products (for Liz of course), etc. The thoughts that are plaguing my mind right now are very dark. I refuse to give into them, at least not yet. Liz is still out cold but the doctors are hopeful she might wake up at some point during the night. Well you know what that means everyone, tonight's going to be a sleepless night for me.
A little while later...
Steve comes by with a couple of bags of the things I asked him to bring. I give him a small hug and smile. "Steve, thank you so much. I truly appreciate it and I know Liz would too. How's everyone doing?" He looks at me sadly. "I should be asking you that but everyone's okay, just worried about you and Liz. Tony's the biggest wreck. He's currently drinking excessively..." I frown. "I worry about Tony when he's drinking. I hope Pepper's there keeping him company." He sighs. "She's out of town for the night on business but she's been calling and texting him like crazy. I think ignored her texts but picked up the phone when she called, though he only listened to her because he isn't the shape to do much talking."
I make a mental note to text Tony after Steve leaves. Steve stays with me for about an hour before heading back to the tower to check on everyone and update them on Liz and I's condition. I stay up all night but Liz doesn't wake up...
