Chapter 31: The Aftermath

?????'s Point of View

As Sasuke carried Echo to the cave, Itachi attempted to stand up but winces in pain and paused a moment.

"Take it easy. You're injured." I said softly.

I kneeled next to him and put his arm around my neck before carefully helping him to his feet. Itachi was even more hurt than Sasuke.

I led him to the cave, letting him put some of his weight on me. Once inside, I set him gently on the cave floor.

I glanced over at Echo and Sasuke. Sasuke was holding pressure on a cloth over her wound, trying to stop the bleeding. The worry was clear in his dark eyes.

"She'll be fine. The wound missed her vital organs." I said looking at her.

"Besides, she's been through a lot worse." I added leaning against the cave wall.

He still looked worried but perhaps my words helped.

"Not to be rude but who are you?" Itachi said calmly.

"Not relevant right now. We need to worry about your wounds first. Echo isn't the only one that's hurt." I said looking pointedly at his shoulder.

Pushing off the wall, I walked over to him and sat in front of him.

"Shirt off." I said, pulling bandages and disinfectant out my bag.

He kept his injured left shoulder still and used his right arm to get it off. My eyes were tempted to look over him but I focused on his shoulder, studying it.

"Not too deep." I said rubbing disinfectant on it. He winced slightly at the sharp stinging pain. Once clean, I wrapped it bandages.

"Anywhere else hurt?" I asked already knowing the answer.

"I'm fine." He said.

I rolled my eyes and handed him the bandages. "Wrap your ankle."

I stood up and walked over to Echo and Sasuke. I sat across from Sasuke, on the other side of Echo and gently pushed his hands back. She had stopped bleeding. Careful not to move her much, I wrapped her wound in bandages as well. Before turning to Sasuke.

"What about you? Any wounds?" I asked.

"Just minor ones." He stated looking at Echo.

I nodded. "You guys should get some rest. I'll keep watch." I said.

"How can we know we can trust you?" Sasuke said hotly, glaring at me.

"Well Echo trusted me enough to ask for my help. And you trust her judgement, don't you?" I said raising an eyebrow even though he couldn't see my face.

He frowned but laid down next to Echo and closed his eyes. I glanced over at Itachi and saw he was already asleep as well.

Now there's nothing to do but wait, I thought as I walked out to the entrance to keep watch.

A few hours had passed, the moon danced across the sky slowly, the sun's rays slowly peeking in from outside the cave entrance. The Uchiha brothers woke from the bright light and immediately they looked over at the wounded Echo. I saw the guilt in Sasuke's eyes as he leaned over her. He brushed her dirty hair out from her face which was glistening with sweat. It was quite cute honestly. Echo's eyes fluttered open and glanced over at Sasuke.

"What time is it?" She asked, her voice cracking.

"Dawn." Sasuke replied. Echo glanced over at me and gave me a weary smile. One that I returned with an approving nod.

"I guess it's time... for me to reveal your identity."
