10. Hospital Visit

The next day was slow, and you didn't have any classes. It was a perfect day just for you and Luffy to make a visitation visit to meet with your mother at the hospital.

Luffy was sitting in the passenger seat, staring out the window watching the cars pass by, and the music was playing on the radio.

"So, what's your mom like, Y/N?" He asked.

"She's a wonderful woman, a good mother that I was raised under." You replied. Gripping the steering wheel to stop at a red light up ahead. "She'd make the best meals and work in a quiet environment- not around crowdy people."

"She sounds great! Does she like pirates?" He asked.

"I don't know. You can ask her if you like." You replied.

The light changed green as you pressed the acceleration to drive forward, and a couple of blocks down was where the hospital building was located. Heading to a parking spot, you take your keys out of the ignition as the car stops running.

"Stay close and don't get lost inside." You said as the boy nodded over at you.

The two of you entered inside, as the place seemed pretty busy on a Tuesday with many visitors going to the hospital.

"Quite busy. I'm not surprised." You said.

"I can't imagine going to the doctor if I were to visit a hospital. Like now." Luffy commented.

"I didn't think I would see you here." You heard a voice as your head turned to look at a familiar face walking in your direction.

"Hey, B/N." You greeted in a dry tone.

"Seems like you haven't changed since we were kids." He grinned.

"Same to you." You gritted your teeth together, glaring at him.

Luffy was watching you both, silently questioning your approach, which wasn't surprising.

"See ya," He walked past you and purposely bumped into your shoulder.

"Who's that jerk face?" Luffy asked.

"My brother," You muttered, glaring over at the tall male scrolling through his Instagram phone. "I never would've guessed that this douche bag to visit my mom when she's mentally ill."

"Why? Do you two have a bad relationship?" Luffy asked.

You let out a sigh. "We're siblings--not related. I'm adopted." You replied.

"Oh,"

"I'll tell you about this later when we see mom up front. It'll be a minute or two." You replied as you looked back at the line to see that it was a little long. "Why don't you sit down and wait? I'll be back."

"Okay," Luffy replied.

You turned your heel to leave and went to the back of the line to wait for your turn. Meanwhile, Luffy looked around the waiting room to see if he could do anything to entertain himself while he remained. He went to a few magazines that could have been more exciting except for some hand-made technical equipment.

'Gee, I wonder what Franky might be up to? Is he building something cool? ' Luffy thought, as he grinned while opening up the magazine to read.

That's when he heard a tap on the table beside him which was Y/N's brother. He looked annoyed, just looking down at the raven male and scowled.

"So, are you dating my sister?" He asked.

"Y/N? We're just friends." Luffy replied.

"Hehe, I can't believe that shithead got a friend to have around." Said B/N as he dryly chuckled.

Luffy looked up at him with a demeanor expression. He didn't see anything funny about Y/N NOT having any friends.

"What's wrong with not having any friends?" Luffy asked.

"What do you mean?" B/N asked.

"I don't know. Do you have any friends, or are you just a loner?" Luffy replied.

B/N gritted his teeth, glaring down at the boy, saying, "You wanna go?" He kept his tone low and made sure not to cause a scene.

"Not while I'm here visiting Y/N's mom. I promise not to start anything, and you're doing it on purpose." Luffy scowled as he stared at the male with his eyes glaring up at him intensely. "Get lost, and don't ruin our day."

B/N flinched at his stare as he ground his teeth and clenched his jaw. Only a short time until you walked over to the boys with a faint smile.

"We're all set." You said, looking down at Luffy with a smile. You looked back at your brother, who just walked away, giving you the silent treatment.

All three of you were heading up to the fifth floor in the elevator to meet with your mother. Luffy snickered, feeling the tingling sensation of elevators' vibration moving up instead of the stairway cases.

"That was fun! Can we do it again?" Luffy asked.

"Maybe later when we leave, Luffy." You replied.

"What? First Time in an elevator?" B/N scoffed.

"Yeah. I never--"

"Let's just go."

Moving forward, the rest of you kept going to walk down the hallway as you reached the room. The door was shut, and you nodded, hearing faintly, "Come in." Entering the room, you saw your mother lying in bed, looking rather pale and tired.

"Hi, mom," You greeted.

Her face changed to show a smile form on her lips.

"Y/N! B/N! I'm so happy to see you." She said as you and your brother walked over and followed behind Luffy. "I wasn't expecting any visitors. How is everything?" She asked.

"Everything is good. I'm doing great in college, and work is stressful--so far, so good." You said.

"I've also been making a lot of progress at my job," B/N replied.

"I'm glad to hear that you both are..." She paused when she saw Luffy standing beside you.

"Oh! This is Luffy." You introduced the young male to your mother.

"Yo!" Luffy replied.

Your mother smiled, "I see you've met someone quite well to take good care of you." You shook your head.

"Mom. We're just friends." You replied.

She grinned, "If that's what you say." Winking over at you.

"So, how's everything with you, mom?" B/N asked.

"I don't think I am getting any better. The doctor told me my health wasn't going too well, and my blood was rising. I feel terrible just to think..."

"No. Don't think about it like that, mom." You said, reaching over to rest your hand on hers.

"Your right. I'm just saying things that might not happen." She said.

"So much for the bills," B/N muttered.

You stomped on your brother's foot, making him wince as he kept his cool. He glared at you, and you looked at your mother with an innocent expression.

"The bills must have gone up. Hasn't it?" She asked.

"I'm afraid so, but it's not so bad. I'm doing what I can to pay for it, especially B/N." You replied.

"You two are my life savers. What would I ever do without you?" She asked, smiling weakly.

"You should probably get some rest, mom," B/N said.

"I will. I haven't moved from this bed except if I need assistance from the nurses." She replied with a light chuckle.

~ Time Skip~

After the hospital visit, you and Luffy returned to the apartments to relax and couldn't go out when it was raining. Perfect to match your mood.

"Your mom seems nice." Luffy complimented. He watched you sitting on the couch, scrolling through your phone, reading Wattpad stories. "Hey, Y/N? Can I ask you something?"

"Hm?"

"How long has your mom been at the hospital? She seems to feel bad about you guys paying her medical bills." Luffy asked.

"She's been there for five years." You replied.

"Five years..." He whispered in disbelief. "What happened?"

"She's got cancer from what B/N and I heard after she told us. It was sad and devastating, but that was when I was a high school student. We decided to take the opportunity to work and graduate to pay for mom's medical bills." You explained, putting your phone down to stare at him with a sad expression.

"How much do you owe?" He asked.

"It's about 42,000. We're paying around 13 000 next month, and it's a long because the treatment is that much to pay for her surgery." You replied.

"That sucks even for you." He grumbled.

"I know. We didn't get her into surgery, and I don't know what we're going to do." You sighed.

"Is that why you were overworking after I came here?" He asked.

"Yeah, pretty much." You sighed.

"I wish I could bring Chopper or Traffy here to help your mom." He said, with a low tone.

"Chopper? Traffic?" You asked.

"Chopper is a reindeer, and he's a part of my crew. He's the doctor, and so is Traffy, aka Law. He's not my crewmember, but we did ally." He explained.

"I bet they are good doctors to help you out. Wish it was easier for me." You said.

Luffy rested a hand on yours, saying, "Let's not overthink it. How about a movie for the two of us?" He genuinely smiled.

"Okay." You smiled at him.

You got off the couch to grab a bag of chips and Coca-Cola. You went over to get the remote to search through the tv to go to Netflix to pick a movie from there.

Luffy stares at the young chubby feminine, eating a bowl of chips while looking back at the television screen. He didn't understand much about her or at least knew anything about her world. However, there was something he loved more than meat, and it was everything about her.

Y/N looked back at the boy staring at her, not at the tv. It was a little creepy, but Luffy was eying her intensely.

"Are you okay, Luffy?" She asked.

Luffy was disconcerted to hear her soft voice again and turned away quickly.

"I-I'm alright, Y/N. Thanks for asking." He replied, looking away from her, only staring out the window.

He thought to himself as he formed a small smile.

'I want to make her my pirate queen,' He thought.
