chapter 2
I came out of the car,my shoeless feet relishing the hot ground beneath me.
"Mitchie"
A voice yelled, before a form came bounding towards me, pushing me back.
I blinked, startled.
I had never been hugged like this before.
I didn't put my own arms around her, but that didn't stop her excitement.
"Mitch"
She said again, after she pulled away, with an extra large grin on her face.
"Hello"
I say, awkwardly.
"You don't remember me, do you? "
She said, her smile faltering a bit.
I looked to aunt lay, she had a smile on her face.
"Tessa "
I said, not wanting to disappoint.
I don't know how it is possible, but her already wide grin widens.
"I knew you couldn't forget, come on let's go in, I'll show you your room."
I looked to aunt lay, for help but she just smiled and let her drag me into the house.
We entered into a large living room, with bright yellow walls.
There was something TV suspended on the wall, and the walls around it were bombarded with pictures of their whole family.
I stared on in awe, as I triped over a black and white rug in the center of the room.
I'd never seen so much color before.
"This is your room"
She said excitedly as we stoped in front of a door.
It opened, to reveal a room, with cream walls, and a huge bed in the middle.
I had a bedside table and an inbuilt wardrobe, with a door that led to a bathroom.
"I get my own bathroom"
I asked with wide eyes.
She smiled and noded.
"I'll leave you to settle in, you can come down when it's dinner time"
She said, walking away and leaving me alone.
I sighed as I collapsed on the bed.
I was still reeling from the events of today.
I couldn't believe I'd been released.
I thought I was going to spend the rest of my days in that place, alone.
I shrug away the feeling, I was free I'd never need to go back there again.
I opened my eyes slightly, when the hushed whispers got too loud.
"But why do I have to go, you can go first"
A whiny voice said.
"Don't be a scaredy cat"
Another voice said
I heard a noise, then footsteps that were trying to be quiet, but ended up being extra loud.
"Jason don't"
Another voice said.
I couldn't take it anymore, I shot up, meeting three frightened faces.
"What are you doing here"
I said, causing them to shriek and scream.
Before I could demand anything, they scrambled away from the room.
I got up, deciding not to bother sleeping anymore.
I walked down the stairs, hearing giggles and reprimanding voices.
"Aunt Layla?."
I said when I got down.
"Oh hi honey "
She said, wiping her floured hand on her flushed forehead.
I looked at the three children I saw earlier, two boys and one girl.
They all had dark blonde hair like mine, but blue eyes instead of my vibrant green ones.
The boy and girl had somber expressions on their faces, but one boy was looking at me with mischief in his eyes.
He looked like trouble, I liked him straight away.
"Now apologize to your cousin for startling her"
She said, gesturing to the children.
"We're sorry Mitchie"
They all said, in unison.
I noticed the other boy, with mischief in his eyes, didn't really apologize, he only mouthed it.
"It's ok"
I said.
We all sat down at the table, it was awkward.
The only person I knew was Tessa and she wasn't here.
And so I ate the most tasty dinner I'd ever had, in awkward silence, with three mischievous children openly glaring at me.
"Heard you were in the cuckoo house"
The mischevious boy -Samuel- said, his eyes lacking their mischievous spark.
He was serious.
Aunt Layla gasped.
"Samuel O'Brien junior, you will not speak to your cousin like that "
She said, her cheeks flushed with anger.
"Well a boy's gotta have something to do, staying all day in this house, without any parents"
He said, rolling his eyes.
How old was he again?..
Aunt Layla looked pinched, tired like this argument had been had too many times.
The remaining kids just stayed silent
"Go to your room Samuel"
She said.
They stared at each other, as though they were communicating mentally, then he grumbled and got up.
The girl, looked as if she would burst into tears any minute.
And the other boy, -Jason- just looked indifferent, regularly pushing his glasses up his nose.
"Did you like dinner"
Aunt Layla asked me after dinner.
"Well everything I've had all my life has been bland, so this was........different."
I said, matter of factly.
She looked hurt and yet again, I wondered if she was in any form of injury.
"Not all your life dear, your mother was a good cook, remember? "
I blinked.
Mother?....
I hadn't heard that word in years.
"I wouldn't know "
I said and shrugged, closing the topic.
I didn't want to talk about my past, I didn't want to remember my past.
I have no parents, I had no parents.
She didn't push and let me go to bed.
I wondered where her husband, uncle Lucas was?.
I rather liked him and knowing him, he wouldn't have personally come to pick me up.
I was again trying to sleep, when I heard the 'voom ' sound that the car makes.
I stood up, abandoning my need for sleep.
I walked over and looked out of the window and saw Tessa, with another girl come out of the car.
I peered further out the square window.
They were all laughing and talking loudly.
My gaze diverted lower, to the person behind the wheel.
At the same time, he looked up and he was easily the most beautiful boy I had ever seen, not that I'd seen many boys in my lifetime.
I couldn't see his features well, but I was lost in the light brown eyes staring at mine.
Then he smiled and I felt sweat on my palms.
He looked to the other two girls and said something, then they all looked up and Tessa waved.
I quickly backed away from the window, not wanting to cause a bigger scene.
Who were they? Her friends?.
I never had any friends, apart from the old lady and Mr Grey who were beside me.
"Hey girl"
Tessa said, loudly as she entered my room.
"Hi"
I said, wishing more than anything that she would just go away.
She was wearing a shiny blue dress, that stopped just after her butt.
He
I gasped, without meaning to.
the only part of my body I'd ever shown was my face and neck.
"Why are you wearing underwear?"
I asked..
She blinked, confused.
"These are clubbing clothes "
She said.
I nodded, even though I didn't understand.
"I'll take you there someday"
She said, grinning.
I was horrified but I nodded.
We spent a few awkward minutes in my room.
Well awkward for me, she was chattering non stop.
She finally decided to let me get some sleep and I was very grateful.
I sighed.
If this was how every day was going to be, then I'll really run mad.
