Layla POV:
Hello, I'm Layla Walkings. I'm a junior in high school, not any high school, but Mountain View High. Mountain View High is a school in pretty small town where everyone basically knows everyone, well almost everyone. That's where I come in. I'm the new mysterious girl in town. The girl that just suddenly disappeared without a warning. The girl who's story was trying to be figured around town. Who was this girl? What happened to her? Why did she leave? Why is she back?
Those are all good questions, but I'm afraid that I'm declaring that to be my secret. I'm going to use my mysteriousness to the best of its advantage, but in order to that I must trust no one.
Today I'm being released from juvenile prison. I don't really have an idea where I'm going to stay, besides the fact it's at the place I thought I'll never be able to return to. The place that held my past, the place that can answer the many questions asked if looked into its dirty little secrets. Such as the small farm house in the middle of the forest. The house I practically grow up in.
I gathered up the little amount of items I owned, and walked towards the large exit gate. With a loud buzz it opens. Slowly I take a big step over the invisible line dividing the land of prison and the land of freedom. I inhale the smell of pine trees around me, then exhale. The gate closes behind me with another loud buzz.
"Where is she? " I think aloud to myself.
I'm waiting for my best friend, Shelby Copper. She the daughter of the Priest in this towns church. She 17 like me, and she's the one person in this town who knows my story, well most of my story. I trust her with as much as she knows, I mean we've been friends since preschool. Suddenly I hear a car pull up. A nice red convertible with a pretty tiny blonde girl, it's Shelby. She quickly parks her car and sprints towards me, then pulls me in a tight hug. I hug her back.
"Omg Layla, I've missed you so so so much, you have no idea." she cries, literally she's crying right now on my shoulder.
"It's okay Shelby, I've missed you so much too." I say rubbing her back.
"It's been so hard since you left people began harassing me for answers and stuff like that. " she says pulling away to look at me in the face.
"I'm sorry I left you in this position." I say leading her to her car.
"I'm sorry too." she says looking at the ground wiping her eyes.
"It's okay." I say not knowing why she's apologizing for I'm the one who should be sorry.
We get in her car. I place my small backpack with my belonging in it in the back of my car. She starts her car, and looks at me.
"Where to? " she ask me.
"Well I'm not sure, but the judge say my dads house." I say looking at her. She gives me a confuse face. " I know what you're thinking, why there he's an asshole? But since it happened at my moms house, it's best if I'm not there. Plus the my probation officer told me she's not in a sane condition still. " I say with a shrug. It's not like I care, yeah I know she's my mother, and I shouldn't betray her when she needs someone, but she did the exact same thing to me. Plus my dad owns a book store, and I'm secretly a bookworm.
"But you have seen your dad since you were 10 ." Shelby says driving towards the highway. Mountain View is only a few miles away from here, so it won't be a long ride.
"Yeah, I know, but it wasn't really my choice. If it was I would go as far as possible from this stupid little town, but sadly both of my parents live there still." I say looking out the window. As we drive down to ghostly highway, the trees we fly past become bigger and bigger meaning we're getting closer.
"Layla you can't just run from your past." she says shaking her head.
"It's still worth a shot. When I turn 18 I'm leaving this town for good." I say.
"And what about your family and friends?" she ask.
" Well first off my only family I actually have are my parents. And we both know they gave up on me years ago. Second of all, your my only real friend. I plan on you coming along." I say looking at her.
Her face fills with shock, she quickly makes a turn and parks. "Are you nuts, I can't leave this town." she says.
"Why not? You said you hate your life here, so why not start a new one?" I ask a bit confused. No I'm not crazy, but it's the only thing I can think of to escape my past.
"Layla I would go, but I can't. While you were locked up, something happened." she says pinning her head on the steering wheel.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Well... I-I'm sorta p- " she began to say but then was cut off by the tapping of a window.
It caused both of us to jump. I quickly check who it is and groan. Fuck it's my dad, I'm shocked by how familiar I look like him. Same dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He looks at me for a moment then smiles.
"Layla? Welcome sweetie!" he says opening my door.
Sweetie? Oh give me a break. He hasn't spoken to me in 6 years, even though we lived in the same stupid little town, and his is how he greets me? Who does he think he is? Oh yeah huh my douche bag father, so I must go with the follow if I want a place to live right.
"Uh hey d-dad. " I say as he pulls me into a bear hug, I slowly hug him back.
He looks down into the car at Shelby. "Thank you Shelby for picking her up, I was really busy with that one new kid. " he say.
"No problem Mr. Walkings anything for Layla." she as pulls away. I wave goodbye. "See you at school Layla!" she adds on as she drives away.
I turn to my dad and ask him a question, " Do you still live in town or towards the country?"
"Nope still same old house. Come on let's go inside." he says leading me inside.
"Crap, I forgot my bag in Shelby's car!" I say face palming myself.
"It's okay, you can get it tommorow at school." My dad says moving a book cart out of my way. Man this place needs a lot of help and work.
"But my money was in there. I was going to buy school clothes and stuff with for tomorrow ." I say.
"Oh okay here then. " my dad says handing three hundred bills.
My eyes widened. "Wow, I can't take that!" I state.
"Why not? Think of it sanely a father giving his daughter money for school. " he says with a smile putting the money in my hand.
Well he does have a point, so I accepted the money and hug him awkwardly. "Thanks dad, I'll be back in a few hours." I say separating from the hug.
" Okay, oh here I almost forgot this is required just in case of an emergency or something like that, so just accept it." he says handing me an iPhone 6. Holy crap, I've never owned an iPhone before, and they aren't every common in Mountain View.
"Dad I-I can't" I say handing it back to him. But he shakes his head and gently pushes my hand back to me.
"Please Layla, I've screwed up before I know I have, so please just take it so you can contact me if anything happens to you. I've already put mine and Shelby's number on speed dial." he says now opening the door for me. "Now go get your stuff, I'll be at the house."
With that I thanked him one last time and walk out the store. I pulled my hood on and walk to the mall. It's not very big, but it's the best place to good for clothes and stuff. As I approach the mall I see familiar faces, so I pull my hood more over my face and look down. I really don't want to bump into anyone I know right now, so it's best if I just avoid everyone as possible. Quickly I slip into the mall and go to a clothing store. I may be a freshly released bad bitch, but I definitely know how to dress to impress, not like I'm trying to impress anyone though.
"Hi may I help you with anything?" an employee from the store asked me as I walked in.
I pulled off my hood ever so slightly, so I won't be rude. "Yes I need a whole new wardrobe, please. " I say giving the lady a friendly smile.
"Well darling you've came to the right place, and may I say your have an amazing figure. " she says leading me into the women's clothing.
"Thank you." I say slightly blushing. I don't really think I'm very pretty, but I did get in fit while I was locked up.
"No problem, this is what we have." she says motioning her hands around the area. "If you need my assistance, then I'll be over there." she adds walking to a cashier desk. I nod my head and look around.
...
After I finish shopping for everything in needed, I decided to go home already. Luckily I've haven't been noticed by anyone yet.
"Ugh theses bags are so fucking heavy. " I think aloud.
"Need help?" someone ask out of nowhere, causing me jump.
I turn around and glare at the person, Martin. Martin is the one and only schools bad boy also one of my ex-boyfriends. " No thanks I got it. " I say looking down trying to hide my face.
"Hey you look familiar, what's your name, I'm Martin." he says try to get a better view of my face.
I turn around and continue walking. "I got to go bye." I say walking pretty fast.
"Wait hold up what's your name?" he ask walking after me.
I turn around and look at him straight in the eyes. "My name is Layla Walkings." I say then walk to my house.
With that Martin is frozen in his tracks face filled with shock. As I walked away I can hear him talk.
"She's back? "
