ACT FIVE, SCENE TWENTY ONE
FONTAINE MANOR
Sage Fontaine-Black woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, confused and still half asleep.
In her foggy, dazed state, she heard the rattle of something tapping on her window, and while it was snowing, as it always did on Christmas Eve at the Fontaine house, the weather was not the cause of the sound.
She slipped out of bed, shivering at the lack of warmth in the open space of her bedroom. She tiptoed over to the window, and while staying close to the wall to keep out of sight, she peered through the glass.
Sirius Black was outside, a handful of pebbles in his hand, and he stared up at her bedroom window, a cheeky smile on his face.
Despite the freezing temperatures outside, she hauled the window open and shouted down to him.
"What're you doing here?" She yelled, thankful that she lived miles from the nearest house.
His grin grew. "What, I'm not allowed to come see my wife?" He said, and the words my wife made her stomach turn excitedly.
She bit back the smile that threatened to spill onto her face. "You do know that I have a front door, right? And I do remember giving you a key—there's no reason to go all Say Anything on me, and if that's what you were trying to achieve, you're missing a muggle stereo."
"Fine, since you want to do things the boring way." He said with just a hint of laughter. "I'll be up in a second."
He was creeping through the door to her bedroom less than a minute later, and she greeted him with a smile.
Sage couldn't help but squeal when he picked her up and hauled her up into his arms, and she wrapped her legs around his waist to make sure she didn't fall as he spun around the room.
"I missed you, darling wife of mine." He whispered after setting her down on the bed and crawling on top of her. He rested his head in the crook of her neck and placed a quick kiss on the skin there, causing her to squirm away.
She absentmindedly wove her fingers into his hair. "Y'know, we're a bit too old for you to be sneaking into my bedroom in the middle of the night. We used to do this shit at Hogwarts, Sirius." She chastized playfully, but whatever annoyance that was behind her words was thrown out the window by the sheer joy of having him here with her.
He sighed, breath tickling her neck. "It's not like we had the chance to get all crazy when we were younger. Between the war and me going to prison, our best years were stolen from us." He said.
"You sound like you're straight out of a shitty romance novel." She muttered, and she smiled softly when he wrapped his arms around her tightly. "What made you come back tonight? I thought you were staying in Scotland for the rest of Harry's fourth year?"
"Felt like my wife needed me more on Christmas than my godson—besides, he's at some sort of Christmas ball with this girl from his year. Parvati, I think." Sirius answered, still breathing onto her neck with every word and exhale.
She snorted. "It's still so weird to hear you call me your wife." She admitted.
He pulled back and looked at her with a mischevous glint in his eyes. "What am I meant to call you, then? Evil bitch?"
"As long as you put my before it, I'm one hundred percent fine with it."
"Sage Fontaine-Black, you are certifiably insane."
