Sick
Adora ignores her sickness; too fueled by rage and hurt... mostly directed at Glimmer.
~~~
Adora often found herself either pacing rapidly in a line or punching things (usually a wall, which more often than not resulted in a broken finger for a few weeks afterwards) when she was angry. Glimmer would sometimes know she was hurting and take her to the moonstone for some peace and quiet. Glimmer claimed she understood where Adora's frustration came from. She didn't. Glimmer didn't have to fight to stay alive her entire life. Glimmer didn't have to ignore her friends dying in front of her eyes. Glimmer didn't have to watch her officer/pseudo mom split her and her best friend apart over the years. Glimmer didn't have to watch as her entire life unravelled in front of her very eyes.
Glimmer didn't have to abandon her best friend.
So, after their argument earlier in the day, she was raging mad but furiously upset that she claimed to understand things she clearly didn't... sometimes Adora was alone, and she liked it.
Her chest had begun to hurt shortly after they returned from another fight (of which Adora was angry she was being used as bait), but she assumed that it was when a bot shot at her. It certainly didn't help her mood, but the final straw was Glimmer's attitude. As they screamed at each other over the battle (though she suspected it was more than that) she couldn't help but feel worried at the worsening tightness of her chest. "If it wasn't for you, my mom would still be alive!"
Adora stumbled back, physically wounded by the painful words. Glimmer's face fell. "Adora-" Too late had she spoken, for Adora bolted away.
Much later, somewhere in the Whispering Woods, Adora sat on a fallen tree trunk, watching as the sun gave way to the moon. The dizzy feeling grew worse over the time she sat there. To be honest, Adora didn't know to where the dizziness was coming from. The still white-hot anger running throughout her body, the pain in her chest or the crushing pain from Glimmer's harsh words. She was an emotional crier back in the Horde as well... for a while at least. If she grew too angry, she cried. If she grew too upset, she cried.
Eventually, after her twentieth beating from a Force Captain, she learned to cry in private and school her emotions in public. She sighed as she looked at the moon, now at a higher peak.
Midnight soon rolled around, not taking the chill in her bones (deeper than the cold) or the painful rattling in her chest. It was clear the issue wasn't the blast to her ribs anymore, thanks to the dryness in her throat. She rubbed her sternum harshly, trying to clear whatever the hell illness had settled. A cough ripped through her throat. She wheezed painfully as she tried to regain her breath. "Adora?" She coughed into her fist again, looking up. "What?" She croaked. Bow frowned in concern. "You don't sound well," He pointed out. Adora rubbed her sternum harshly again. "I'm sure it's fine," She wheezed. Bow's eyes narrowed. "Why don't I take you to the doctor? I'm sure she's still awake,"
"It's fine, Bow, honestly, I'm fine." She took slow breaths.
"I'm fine," She repeated, whether, to herself or Bow, she didn't know. "Ok," Bow sat on the bench next to her, poking the fire. Had Adora felt 100%, she would've made conversation. Yet, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was verywrong.
~
Adora woke up the following morning gasping for breath. She shot upright, bracing herself on her arms. She coughed loudly. Her breaths came out in wheezes. Her eyes watered.
Was she having an allergic reaction? No... the Horde had forced any moveable allergies out... She took a shaky breath in but stuttered and started coughing again. She wheezed for oxygen, fighting back the urge to cough again. She rubbed her sternum, forcing herself upright. She took a long inhale through her nose and out again. Her chest ached something horrific.
"Adora!" A blurred person burst into her room. She identified the blur as Bow, feeling guilty all of a sudden for worrying him. She grasped his arm tightly, wheezing for air pitifully. She coughed harshly again. "Glimmer!" Bow yelled. Adora blinked at her fist in shock.
She coughed again harshly, the echo reverberating in her skull.
More blood splattered onto her closed hand.
Her vision blacked out to Bow screaming for Glimmer.
~
She woke up in a white room. Her chest ached horribly, but not as bad as earlier. "Oh my- Adora, you're ok!" A flash of pink and purple hair rushed to her face. She turned wearily, blinking her eyes slowly. "Huh?" She mumbled. Glimmer sat near her arms, rubbing her shoulder. "Bow found you... You were nearly blue, Adora."
Adora felt something under her nose. "Why isn't she speaking to me? Is she okay?" Glimmer asked sharply. "She might be a little out of it for a while. Fainting does that to someone, especially if they've got pneumonia." Adora blinked and shook her head. "The others?" She croaked. "They're safe, they're with the others,"
Ah.
Glimmer combed her hand through her hair. "Everything's okay though. You'll be weak for a while, but you shouldn't have another attack. If you do, I've written down instructions on what to do for you." The healer continued.
She nodded as her eyes began to drift shut. "Rest. The longer you rest, the quicker you'll heal,"
The healer left, closing the door behind. A while passed, and just as she was on the brink of sleep, she heard: "I'm so sorry,"
