Chapter Seven

"Damn, you're such a Dadadadada dadadadada" Hailee's soothing song was playing in my earphone while I was busy typing and vouching for the documents.

I knew I was sulking into another level of hell, from the moment I received the new assignment from Miss Hill. It is most likely a mission impossible for me.

Why me?

I was right. I should have had enough fun before getting started my adult life which was sucks. Especially the Satan Blonde, she was a meanie supervisor of mine.

I was wondering a few things about her. Was she hate me that much? If she did so, why did she hired me in the first place? Was she that sadist who enjoys watching I get to suffer?

I glanced at the right bottom corner of my LCD monitor which showed 9 pm. I was grateful Miss Hill didn't add any assignment to me as usual today. She might know better that I was in a hurry for my current task.

Again, my sweet weekend would be replaced by my works. Everyone probably was enjoying their fun time celebrating their payday. Except for Miss Hill and I stay up late in here.

That's unfair for me, I deserved a mini celebration of my payday for the first time.

Right now, the room looks eerie without anyone here. All the lights switched off except mine because everyone had left, and they had to switch them off before they left.

This place looks like a haunted office if without music. What if a long dark-hair girl in plain white loosened sundress hovered around here. I might freak out.

Gratefully, Hailee was with me now. I was listening to her soothing songs. Her voice was great, serene, and fluffy like an angel. Awe!

If Miss Hill is as lovely as Hailee, I don't mind staying up late to work with her. Also, I might send her home too.

"Damn it!" I groaned when I realize that I keyed in the wrong copy. I had spent an hour keying in this work. I pulled out my hair in exasperation and I landed my elbows on my desk.

I had to stay calm before amending this mess. I must do my best and get it done before I went home.

Since Miss Hill was giving me a challenge, I would not let myself down. I'll take this challenge and prove to her that I'm unbeatable in any obstacles.

I exhaled from my lips as I used my fingertips to massage my temple to relax my tension before back to my work.

Finally, I was ready to go home after I amended my silly mistake. I switched off the light and leaving the room.

When I walked past Miss Hill's room, surprisingly her room was still with light. I shrugged and walked out from my working area then reached the elevator and pressed the down button.

After a while, I heard the familiar stiletto sound was clicking from behind the door. Then, followed by a beep from our department door, and the faint fragrance was engulfing me. Miss Hill was right behind me.

I shouldn't think she was a bad person, she was overaggressive in her jobs. I always keep that in mind even though sometimes she was a meanie.

I had to be rational after I stepped out from the doorstep of our department. As being polite as usual, I turned around to greet her.

That was the wrong move, my body was stiffened when I realize we were so close to each other. Very close.

Damn! That's so torturing when I was seeing her breathtaking close-up features. I couldn't help, but I was mesmerized by her close-up features again.

I saw her trimmed eyebrows tilted up along with her eyelid coated with the thin eyeliner, her dilated icy-blue eyes, and her pepper red hot luscious lips slightly parted which was dangerously close to mine.

Our breath was quicken in a different rhythm, my heartbeat was accelerated, hitting my ribcage feverishly. Our movement stay still, remains in silence like worry we'll trigger the bomb anytime.

She was the one who moved, her eyes flicked aside which is too soon of my liking. She was avoiding eyes contact with me. At that moment, I felt a pang in my heart.

Was she dislike me that much? Why should I care about that? I shouldn't bother about anything. She was my superior and nothing more than that.

After a brief second, I stopped the train of my thought, backward a step to draw a comfortable distance between us. I greet her softly, "Good evening Miss Hill."

Finally, her eyes reached mine with nodded her head as she indicated the elevator. I shifted aside for her to enter the elevator before me. I pressed the basement level for her.

All of these looks like my second nature. I bid her goodbye and left her in the elevator when it touched the ground floor.

"I don't think I can make it." I sighed as I was busy staring at my laptop screen in my room. I sat on my chair in Indian style as Ginger was comfortably laying on my lap.

"Oh come on, Don't be an asshole. Maybe you could join us a while, and go back home." Jessie was convincing me through her phone.

"I tried okay." I was getting lazy to join because I was lack of sleep.

"Just come, okay. This is Danielle's first time threw a party at her dad's bar. Trust me, this bar is cool, and you will like it for sure. Besides, she misses all of us. You miss her too, right?" Jessie keeps rambling.

I groaned and gave up, "Fine, I'll go and send me the location."

"Oh really! That's great! Don't bail us or I'll kick your ass." She threatened as we ended our call.

"Hey! Long time no see!" Danielle pulled me into a hug.

Danielle was one of our best friends in college. I knew her and Jessie at the same time during the freshman year of our college. She was different from Jessie because she's the cool and chill type of girl.

Whereas, Jessie loved to annoy others. So, she and I love bickering as Danielle always had to be the peacemaker. Deep down, we all knew that Jessie and I love to make fun with each other, and everyone found that was quite entertaining.

"Where's Jessie?" I asked as we pulled away.

Danielle rolled her eyes playfully and teased, "Oh come on, both of you didn't see each other only like half-day?"

I laughed and gagged playfully, "No, I'm just to make sure that she's around too because she keeps begging me to come."

Danielle laughed, "She's nosy as usual. Anyway, I'm glad you're here."

She smiled as she handed me a bottle of beer, I claimed it as I toasted with her.

"I'm glad too, Danielle. Look, I'm sorry. I really wanted to join this party but, I'm full of plates. You know better than me that I love parties." I explained truthfully.

"Liar!" Jessie yelled as she reached in between Danielle and me as she snaked her arms around us. I chuckled and ignored her insult because this moment made me feel content.

I damn missed the moment that the three of us spending time together during our college time. Even though I was not active for parties for just a month, but I felt like ages.

I didn't expect we would hang out in a bar. Mostly young adults and working people would go. Well, I should admit that I already reached that stage of life.

This time, we were spending time with each other, sharing the stories of our working life. I was grateful we still keep in touch after we graduated.

Back in our college time, we mostly hang out at the nightclub or any riches kids' mansions that were clouded with smoke, pot, weed, and sweats. Then drink, dance, and pass out till the next day.

This bar had a theme which is a cool cowboy bar. Danielle explained that her dad prefers old fashion with cowboy style.

Besides, it's newly renovated which is full of new stools, booths, and bar. The crews all in cowboy looks too. The environment looks cozy and full of guests.

This bar, most of the guests were young adults like us, also still have more than average numbers of citizens around. Many of them were bob dad like my dad.

Overall, the interior of the bars was pretty cool, but the exterior of this bar was the opposite. If I were a new guest, I would think this bar was old and rusty.

"Why didn't you think about changing the signboard?" I asked.

"This interior I've spent for years to convince my dad for renovation. He's stubborn. He insisted to keep the old signboard because he hates to change." Danielle explained with rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"So, this consider as a soft celebration of new renovation?" I added.

"You could say like that. Besides, I want to attract more potential guests to our bar. I'm not only want to target the senior citizen, but also target the youngster." Danielle said as she sipped her beer.

I nodded my head, "Cool."

"So, what are both of you busy at?" Danielle asked with a smile.

"Thanks to my new devil boss," I said lazily as Jessie elbowed my rib. I stared at her questioning, "What? She assigned us tons of works and I only live under the moonlight and fluorescent light."

"Stop complaining before you regret that." Jessie laughed as I shrugged.

"Oh might be my sister being the devil to both of u." Danielle chuckled as I arched one of my eyebrows in questioning.

"Who's your sister?" I asked and waited for Danielle to answer expectedly. However, they laughed and didn't help at all. I sipped my second bottle of beer and stared at them flatly.

I couldn't get this thing in my head. Still, I asked to ensure, "Cadence Hill is your sister?" I furrowed my eyebrows and staring at Danielle in confusion.

Both of them nothing looks like each other at all. Danielle was olive skin, curly dark hair, dark eyes. Other than that, their features were different too.

"Don't give me that look. Yes, Cadence is my sister but we're not the same blood." Danielle explained as Jessie laughed hysterically.

"Oh," I said as I felt a guilt pang in my heart "I'm sorry if you get offended because I keep complaining about your sister."

Danielle smiled as she waved me off, "Nah, none taken. I knew she would be a workaholic when coming to her job. Besides, she's demanding to her staff. For me which is a great challenge to train you hard for your job."

I felt a little relief by seeing the way Danielle reacted. She seems cool with that. I could tell if she was mad

"Again I'm sorry, Danielle. So, she was the sister you always told us." I apologized as Danielle hummed and bobbed her head at me.

I elbowed Jessie and complained, "Hey! Why didn't you tell me about that."

Jessie giggled, "It's because I don't want you to throw tons of questions which is so annoying."

I rolled my eyes at Jessie, turned my attention to Danielle, and asked, "So, how do you meet your sis?"

"From long story make it short, she walked in this bar looking for a job and my dad hired her. Then, she stayed at our place a moment before she shifted out to pursue her study. Other than that, that's not my place to tell you any further because I need to respect her decision. She dislikes we shared her story." Danielle said with a hint of bitterness as Jessie and I looked at each other and patted her shoulder to comfort her.

"I hope you'll not take it hard whatever my sis has done to you. She's kind. The only thing is, she dislikes socialize with new people. I understand about that and I won't force her to change her mind." Danielle explained

I nodded my head and said in reassuring "Don't worry about that. I won't take it in personally. Thanks for telling me and again I'm sorry about my bad comments."

Danielle rolled her eyes playfully, "How many times do you want to apologize? Come on. You didn't know."

"Now I know it." I smiled as the three of us toast and sipped our beer. I should change my perspective of Cadence.

"I'm glad she's here too." Danielle tilted her head to the corner of the bar and I saw Cadence was sitting alone with her face focus on her mobile as a glass of margarita sat on her table.

"So, this was the first time you were able to ask her to join this party?" I asked

Danielle teased, "Yea, just like how hard I invited you to join this party too." I chuckled at her as I shook my head.

We've spent more than 2 hours at this bar, and I decided to stay up a little longer with them. It's because I thought of after we had this catch-up, we might be eventful on our own again.

Danielle would be busy running the business with her dad in this bar as Jessie and I would be busy for our peak period. "Be right back," I informed them as I patted their shoulders before I head to the restroom.

"I'll much appreciate it if you leave me alone." that familiar cold voice took my attention as I glanced to her side. Cadence was busy staring at her phone without facing the early 40's man who stood next to her.

The man wore a button-down Hawaiian shirt with his stomach which pushed the shirt slightly parted. The button of his clothes looks like could pop out anytime if his stomach getting bloated.

Besides, his medium-length hair was oily and messy, and he got untrimmed facial hair. The way he stared at Cadence looks like in his own 'fantasies'.

However, he didn't overstep the boundaries, and that's not my place to get involved. I decided to ignore and walked into the bathroom.

"I said get off from me!"

What's next?
