Chapter Eight
Am I an asshole? Am I horrible that I didn't watch out for her?
I think that's not my place to take care of that because she seems disliked people butt in her business. Well, she probably could handle that. I should leave her alone because I could tell she would be unhappy if I get involved.
Fine, I should mind my 'own business' before I take care of the others' business.
I could still hear the faint sound of R&B music outside of the bathroom. Overall it looks clean. When I reached the basin, I looked into a mirror, took a quick scan of my face and hairstyle.
All looks decent, I smiled in satisfaction as I opened the tap to wash my hands. While I was looking down the basin, I nearly vomit into it. I saw a pool of disgusting vomit stuff floated in the basin. Ughh! Gross!
I hurriedly washed my hands without seeing the basin, then ready backed to the place to join Jessie and Danielle again.
"I said get off from me!" I was snapped back by the voice was stern and harsh.
That ain't a good thing gonna happen.
I saw that chubby man was holding both of Cadence's hands firmly, and ready to pull her closer to him with puckered his lips.
Cadence was helpless in her hands and legs pinned by that disgusting man. But, Cadence seems didn't look weak. She was glaring at him with tilted her head aside.
This son of the bitch was harassing her.
I felt blood was boiling in my vein. I would never tolerate this kind of incident. Fuck it! I marched to their table to stop the ugliest thing that happened without a second thought.
"Hey, babe! Sorry, I'm late." I snaked my arm around Cadence's shoulder as I used my other hand to firmly press on that bastard's greasy-nasty-mouth covered with a beard which is ticklish and disgusting. Ew!
"Oh hi, Who are you, Mister? My girlfriend didn't tell me about you." I played dumb at him.
He seems unhappy with my presence. With no other option, he reluctantly frees his grip and lets go of Cadence. I made sure he already drew a respectful distance from Cadence before I freed my hand from his nasty mouth.
He chuckled and said slyly, "Oh, she never told me that she has a partner."
Well played bastard, I have my way.
I smirked at him as I felt Cadance was trying to pry off my hand from her shoulder. I swiftly linked her hand, turned to face her, and shot her a sweet smile like a typical couple would do, "Oh, you're still mad at me, Aren't you? Stop being grumpy, Babe. I'm sorry."
Cadence's icy blue eyes were daggered at mine, shot a face to me like 'What the hell are you doing?' I raised one of my eyebrows and mouthed at her 'I'm saving your ass.'
Cadence's eyes left mine, her lips were pressed in a thin line, and she tightened her grip on my hand. She seems to have her internal debating. Finally, she loosens her grip and I took it as she allowed me to continue my gameplay.
I took a swift scan around to seek an empty spot. Gratefully, my wish was granted. I found a more private spot which was a booth in the corner. She would thank me later.
Even though I wanted to snatch a pint of a beer to splash on this bastard's face, but I had to be calm. It's because this bar is Danielle's and I don't want to make a scene.
Still, I was able to force a polite smile on that bastard, said to him curtly, "Have a nice day."
I gently pressed Cadence's lean shoulder and said to her softly, "We're leaving babe. Let's go to have fun for just two of us." I winked at her as her face remain unreadable, but let me took her away from her seat.
While we were walking to the spot as I planned, I saw a few pairs of eyes were on the gorgeous next to me.
They were staring at her with their mouth parted like ready to drool on her. By seeing their sight, I could tell they would think that I was a lucky kid who was dating a successful business lady.
In the corner of my eyes, I saw two pairs of familiars eyes were staring at our side. When I turned to them, I gave a light shrug to my two best friends who were giving me that smirk.
The thing was getting ironic for them.
I was the one who complained to them how terrible Cadence had treated me in earlier hours, and now we were acting like having a date.
Cadence too soon, too soon retracted her hands from mine after we reached the new spot. She hastily shrugged off my arm which was wrapping her delicate shoulder like I was a hot boiled kettle boiling on her body. Ouch!
"Seriously, this hand most of the girls die for it." I bragged as I raised the hand which she had just retracted.
"Oh, I'm flattering," she said sarcastically in monotone as she slipped into the booth gracefully.
I welcomed myself joined across her with folded my arms and smirked at her smugly.
I had no idea why I would do that. I should leave her alone.
"Thanks for your help. I'll get a drink for you as my gratitude for your kindness, and you can leave me alone," she said curtly
I didn't like the idea of hers because I dislike asking for returns from the others whenever I did them a favor.
I propped one of my elbows on the table, rest my chin in my palm, staring at her beautiful face, and shot her a warm smile, "You don't have to because I just do what I want to."
"I insist." she said as I beamed, "Okay."
She took out a pack of wet tissue from her purse, gently placed it on the table, used her two slender fingers pressed on the wet tissue, and pushed towards my side. She said softly, "You need this."
I took a couple of seconds just caught what she meant. That nasty greasy stain still lingers in my palm. I shuddered in disgust before I thanked her.
I felt my hands fresh after wiped them with the wet tissue. She's thoughtful,
We fell into silence after we ordered the drinks. She has engaged typing into her phone as I busy replied to the explanation to feed Jessie and Danielle's questions.
I gave up explaining to them again and again after they threw teasing messages on me such as 'Have a nice date' or 'Have fun.'
When our drinks were served at our table, I paid for the drinks before Cadence could have a chance. She stared at me with tilted up one of her trimmed eyebrows and stated, "I said I pay for the drinks."
"Treat it as our 'date'" I jested as I shot her a wink.
"Are you leaving me alone now?" Cadence asked and waited for me expectedly.
I leaned my back against my seat and giving her the sign that I wasn't leaving anytime. I toast at her and beamed, "I'll leave you alone after I'm done."
Cadence rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Fine, and don't take it so long."
I asked her curiously, "Why do you eagerly want me to leave you alone? Are you hate me that much?"
"I hate people," she said dryly as I was caught off guard.
I knew Danielle had told me Cadence dislike socialize, but she didn't tell me Cadence hate people.
That would be another level of question and I was getting curious about her. I formed my mouth in a firm 'O' then I said, "Wow, mind to share?"
She gave me a typical smile which was unreadable the meaning of it. She did smile often but, I would never know if it was genuine or just being polite.
She elegantly took a sip of her martini, then stared at me a few beats, and started explained, "People are annoying and love to mind the others' business. I'll not allow myself to entertain nonsense questions from strangers, especially you."
A smirk played on her lips as she remains staring at me and expecting I'll get offended. But, that didn't work on me anymore. I was getting interested to annoy her instead.
"You already entertained the nonsense questions from me." I shot her back with a determined smile.
"I take it as my gratitude to you before you finished your drink," she said casually and took a sip of her martini elegantly.
"Sure." I beamed as I sipped my mocktail. I would take my sweet time to finish the drink.
I had numerous of question to ask her which was related my jobs. I knew that wasn't an appropriate way to act. Aside from jobs, her personal life was out of my line to know.
I decided to relish my drink, enjoy a captivating person across me who was busy scrolling her phone. But, I didn't take long.
"Are you working anytime and anywhere?" I broke the silence.
"I've no choice, I've to work more because none of you are hardworking," she said dryly while checking her phone.
"Don't you have a life like an outing with friends or spending time with family?" I could tell our conversation was heading to doom after I finished this by seeing her reaction.
I knew I was a little too late to take back all my words.
Cadence's jaw clenched, and she tightened her grip on her phone. Her face remained facing her phone. Besides her jaw, she was well controlling her facial emotion.
Shit! I'm so fucked up.
Just now our conversations were great, and now I was killing them off in one shot.
"I'm sorry, I'll let it pass." I finally could speak to clear the tension as she loosened her grip and proceed to do her stuff as nothing had happened.
I didn't spend a long time annoying Cadence. After half an hour of quiet drinking mocktail with the goddess, I returned to join Jessie.
Jessie was drinking her beer while swiping her phone alone at our table, and Danielle was engaging entertain with the guests.
"So, how was the 'date'?" Jessie slurred at me with wiggled her eyebrows.
I scoffed at my tipsy best friend, and said lazily, "It's not a date, asshole."
Jessie giggled and said, "No way! I could tell you start liking her. I saw your eyes were sparkling whenever you're talking to her."
I swiftly shoved the bottle of beer to her mouth to stop her, "You talked too much."
She slapped my upper arm and exclaimed, "Dammit! You nearly break my teeth!"
I grinned, "I'm glad."
Jessie and I were waiting for George, her boyfriend came to pick her up outside the bar after we bid goodbye to Danielle.
We didn't take long to wait George. He reached in 5 minutes after Jessie called him.
"Bye and safe drive. No, no. It's a safe ride!" Jessie slurred as she was waving at me with poked her head outside the rear window of her boyfriend's car.
I shook my head as chuckled at my drunken friend, waved her back, and watching them drive off their car before strolled to my Ducati.
Instead, I strolled to the bar. When I reached the front door of the bar, I pushed the door opened. I look at Cadence's spot and checked on her once again.
I decided to leave when I saw she already stood up and taking her purse. I could tell she was ready to leave. I loosened my hand from the door and backward but bumped into someone.
"Watch out young lady!" the angry voice could be an elderly man's voice.
My bad, I swiftly stood aside for the person behind me to walk past. Before the elderly man entered the bar, I gave a slight nod apologized to him, "I'm sorry."
The man's face softens after he saw me and heard me apologize. He said softly "It's okay. Just be careful next time."
"Okay," I smiled at him courteously as I pushed the door open for him. He smiled at me, thanked me with a slight nod before entered the bar.
"So, you're working as a doorman now." Cadence tipped her head aside as she chuckled at me.
I knew my gesture might be comical because I was hovering the door like welcoming the goddess walking out from the bar. Yikes!
"Well, I'm leaving and I'm just being polite to the elderly." I teased with a smirk, played a waiter welcome gesture at Cadence as she rolled her eyes and walked out from the bar.
We walked to the taxi stand side to side, she stopped there and I took it as she was waiting for a cab or someone to pick her up.
"Bye!" I said as I walked toward my Ducati. I climbed on it, rested my forearms on the handles of my bike, and watched her. I decided to leave after she was picked up from someone or a cab.
I didn't want to leave her alone after that incident in the bar. Besides, the surrounding area was dark and quiet with only a dim light at the taxi stand she was standing. Also, I didn't see any cars or people pass by since we were around here until now.
Cadence was staring at whatever was in front of her dully with her arms folded.
Again, I was checking out her beautiful outfit. She looks good in her emerald green dress reaching her lean thigh and matching high heels.
"You are not leaving, are you?" she asked as she turned to my side.
"Are you waiting for someone to pick you up?" I asked
She shook her head, "No, I'll take a cab."
I nodded my head as she cursed under her breath when she read her phone.
By the look of hers, I could tell. I asked in concern, "Did the cab decline the order?"
She sighed and didn't respond to me, and I offered, "Come on, I'll send you home. It's late now."
"Just go home. I'll be fine." Cadence said dryly as I shrugged and ignored her advice.
We had spent another 15 minutes silent, but no sign of cabs coming. Besides, she was rejected by the cabs at the last minute, or her location was too far for them.
"I don't think you can catch a cab now," I said as I was waving a helmet and ready for her to put on.
"Are you sure about that? I'll not safe for riding your bike with this dress," Cadence indicated her dress with a hint of disapproval in her voice.
"That's fine, No one recognizes you because your pretty face would be covered by a helmet. Besides, you can chill your sexy ass without worries," I teased with a smirk as she looked away from me in annoyance.
I decided to stop making fun of the grumpy goddess. I chuckled as I hang the helmet at one of the handles.
I opened the small box storage of my bike. I took out a wide-length scarf which I would use whenever I needed it. I walked towards her with one of my hands holding my scarf.
"I got an idea." I stepped a little closer to her as she seemed shocked and asked in a hint of nervousness, "What the hell are you doing?"
I shot her a smile and gave her a little fun as she glared at me. I chuckled as I stretched both of my hands behind her back, and wrapped the scarf around her waist.
I tightened a small knot in the middle of her waist, and backward to have a good look at my little masterpiece. I nodded my head as I was satisfied that below her waist till her knee-length was securely wrapped around.
"I know it's not fancy, but you're safe to ride my bike now," I beamed as Cadence remained quiet and stared at me. "Are we ready to go?" I asked nicely at her.
A smile played on her lips as she said, "My home is an hour away from here."
My mouth hung open as her smiley lips formed into a smirk, "You can change your mind if you wanted to."
"Nah, It's fine. Come on," I finished as I held her wrist to take her to my Ducati, and she didn't stop or against it.
I took the helmet, gingerly put on her head, and fastened the helmet belt. I climbed up the Ducati and helping her to climb up at my back.
She circled her arms around my waist and drew an awkward distance for not letting herself fully pressed her front on my back. I laughed softly and said, "Hold tight." With that, I revved my Ducati and pull out from the lot I parked.
I followed the address as she told me, as I was focusing on the road. While touched on the highway, I started to accelerate the speed. In the meanwhile, the pressure of my speed cause Cadence's front was pressing my back abruptly.
Cadence's embrace was getting tightened around my waist, and I smiled to myself. I couldn't help, but I was relishing her warmth wrapping around me like a blanket and having close contact with her.
My heartbeat was beating fast indifferently, and the rhythm was steady than my panic heartbeat. I was smiling from ears to ears to feel another heartbeat was beating behind me closely.
I was wondering about the distance Cadence had told me. It looks like less than half an hour could reach her place, but I was wrong. After I checked my watch, I already spend an hour sending her back.
So, she was right.
I think the journey to reach her place was too soon for my liking. I pulled up to the lobby of the condominium she stayed which looks spacious and elegant.
Just like her.
I gingerly helping her to climb off my bike, her hand were soft and I just realized I was holding one of her hands.
I gradually free her hands as I climbed off from my bike. I helped her to unfasten the helmet and took it off.
When I was pulling off the helmet away from Cadence, her beautiful golden permed locks were sprawled smoothly around her collarbone.
"Thank you." I was snapped back by the soft voice. I stared at her and saw her plump lips was playing a sweet smile which I oddly to see. This was the first time I could tell the smile she was giving me was genuine.
She handed the helmet to me gracefully with two of her hands, and I just realize my jaw was getting sore because I could tell my jaw was dropping all the time.
That was so embarrassing.
I swiftly close my mouth and returned her a cool smile to disguise my embarrassment. Even though she might catch I was staring at her in awe.
"You're welcome, I'm glad to send you home safely."
"Safe drive. I'll return this for you after I washed it," she said with remained her sweet smile which I start liking to see.
I smiled as I nodded my head at her. We bid goodbye and I left after she entered the building.
It already passed midnight 3, I probably would be sleepy or having my slumber time soundly. But, this time I feel awake like I had more than a shot of espresso.
I probably couldn't sleep tonight because enthusiasm took over me.
