Chapter 7

POV Seraphina

Almost tormented, I opened my eyes and looked at my alarm clock, which was beeping happily.
Stupid thing!
I smashed it murderously with my good arm and it finally fell silent again.
A little bit annoyed, I looked at the ceiling and closed my eyes again for a brief moment.
The morning came earlier than I had hoped and for a short time I toyed with the idea of just staying in bed.

My wrist was throbbing slightly and I had to sigh deeply.
I sat up and slowly got out of my bed to look in the mirror.
Despite my rather painful night, I looked fresh and well rested, which always surprised me a little.
My ability to avoid dark circles under my eyes, no matter how long I stayed up or how badly I slept, has often been admired.

"At least something", I murmured getting ready quickly as to not keep Aaron and Micah waiting.
I decided to keep my outfit simple and let my hair fall down in soft waves after combing it.
I cleverly hid the bandage under a long-sleeved shirt and went downstairs, satisfied with my doing.

"And you're sure you don't want to stay here?", Aaron asked urgently again as he changed the bandage and looked at the wound.
One could guess that the wound was beginning to heal, but due to the intensity of the shadow's grip, the process took much longer than usual.
"It's a lot better than yesterday and I can't stay here for every little thing", I just waved the whole thing off and took a sip of my cocoa.

If there was one thing that definitely cheered me up in the morning, it was hot cocoa.
I gently put the cup with the holy elixir down in front of me and put a biscuit in my mouth that was previously in a small bowl.

Aaron glanced at Micah, who just shrugged and shook his head.
I was aware that Aaron somehow knew there was another reason why I didn't want to miss a day, but I was sure he wouldn't be able to tell why.
"Okay, but if something happens let me know and I'll drive you home", he said quickly and I nodded at him with a quick smile, "deal!"

I quickly emptied my cup and ate one last cookie before Micah ushered me out of the kitchen so we wouldn't be late for school.

POV Jasper

I waited spellbound for my Seraphina to arrive at school so I could finally see her lovely form again.
We had history together today and no matter what happened I really wanted to talk to her!
Last night I couldn't hold back any longer and wanted to go for a nightly walk hoping to find her scent.
After some time I found it but before I could get really close to her Edward had already caught me.

I straightened my stance a little more and a smile crept onto my otherwise rigid face.
I was only able to see her briefly, but I immediately felt a lot better when I could finally breathe in her scent again and heard her calming heartbeat.
She looked like the sleeping beauty from all the fairy tales and this image literally burned itself into my memory.

I was also slowly becoming comfortable with the Major's presence.
He was a part of me and without really wanting to admit it I was partly a little glad about it, because without him I wouldn't have seen Seraphina yesterday.

Finally I saw my Seraphina get out of the grey car and stared at her lovingly.
Her lips formed a soft smile and she was talking to Micah, who got out behind her.
She laughed once and then pushed her hair behind her ear with her left hand.

I immediately frowned and studied her left arm closer.
She was wearing a dark jacket, yet there was something white peeking out from under her sleeve that was definitely not her Shirt, as it was clearly a blue color, which could be seen at the open crease of her jacket.

I closed my eyes and focused a little more on her scent.
A soft note of cherry blossoms with vanilla hit my nostrils and then suddenly I smelled this little hint of blood.
My eyes widened immediately and Edward, following my train of thought, immediately grabbed my arm to keep me from sprinting to Seraphina.

He and Alice quickly pulled me away from the crowd to an area where no other students were.
"Jasper calm down", Edward said quickly, holding me even tighter as I desperately wanted to see Seraphina.
"MINE!", I growled angrily in his direction and he had to swallow hard when he saw my almost black eyes.

Everything in me screamed for my mate.  She had to be protected and especially the Major wanted to know where this injury came from.

"Jasper, we know you want to go to her and protect her, but there's nothing you can do for her right now", Alice said softly, cupping my face in her hands.
Torn, I took in her words but still wanted to check in on Seraphina, who was clearly injured by something.
"Jasper look at me", Alice said again and I swallowed hard, looking into her eyes, "calm down and focus on her normal scent."

I closed my eyes and inhaled her lovely scent again, slowly calming down as I blocked out the soft note of blood.
"Are you okay?", Alice asked me with a soft smile and I nodded my thanks to her and Edward.

How could it be that I hadn't noticed her injury tonight?

We went back to Emmett and Rosalie, who of course had heard the whole thing and I realized that Seraphina had already disappeared from the parking lot.
The Major was furious but Alice was right; I couldn't help Seraphina right now, even though I wished I could.

I sat up in my seat and waited anxiously for Seraphina, who was sitting next to me.
All I could think about was the bandage on her arm and I wondered how devastating her wound was.
My otherwise calm demeanor was replaced by nervousness and discomfort, which I didn't like at all.
Just before class started, I saw her at the door saying her goodbyes to Aaron, almost making me roll my eyes.

She quickly sat down next to me and I could hear her heart beating faster than normal, so I hoped that I was the trigger and not Aaron.
She took off her jacket and stuffed it into her backpack after laying out her papers for today's lesson.
Without noticing me, she opened her book and then looked ahead at our teacher, who seemed to be waiting for the last students to arrive.

Immediately my eyes fell on her left forearm, which was wrapped in a bandage, and I tried to calm down before I spoke to her about it.
"What happened to your arm?", I asked quietly since the teacher had already started the lesson and looked at her worried.
"Ohh, that was just a little accident", she said quickly, looking ahead again to follow the lesson.

I could see that the corners of her mouth turned up gently and I admired her side profile.
Between her fingers was a pen that she occasionally pressed against her pink lips when she was listening intently.
Her blue eyes darted over the lines of her book and she began to make some notes that were written in beautiful handwriting.

Still, I was unsatisfied with her answer and studied her arm again until I looked down at my history book.
I didn't like her answer at all and I knew that she was hiding the cause of her injury.
Although my biggest questions was now how big or small her wound was underneath the bandage, which almost drove me insane.

POV Seraphina

I felt Jasper's lingering gaze on me and knew he wasn't at all happy with my answer.
The corners of my mouth twitched up slightly as I thought that maybe he was worried about me.
I quickly shook off the thought and tried to focus on the lesson, still determined to keep my distance.
Unfortunately, I couldn't tell him what was really going on, since he wasn't a Shadowhunter and was therefore not allowed to learn about the shadows.

I felt the need to tell him everything and to confide in him completely, which surprised me because I didn't open up to anyone that easily.
Again I felt this pull in his direction, as if I was being asked to go to him.

I exhaled, not sure if this was a bad joke from the universe trying to mock me.
It's already hard to keep away from him, but this pull makes it all the way harder.

I felt Jasper's eyes on me for the entire lesson like the past days, since I decided that maybe it would be better to ignore him.
Again and again he tried to start a conversation and I tried to answer as briefly as possible or let him understand that I was working on the tasks we should do.

Of course, the many students noticed his attempts and began to whisper about it.  I was told that he had never shown any interest in anyone and never spoke to anyone of his own accord.
I guessed that most students were jealous that he suddenly took an interest in me, but I didn't care one bit about the whole thing, since I quickly learned that this was a common fact at Forks Highschool.

And then there was Alice.
I played with the decision to ignore her as well, but firstly it was impossible and secondly the pretty Pixie quickly grew on me.
We hit it off in class and while she tried to figure out exactly why I couldn't stand Jasper, which I assured her I didn't, all I could say was that it was complicated.

After a while she relented and took my vague explanation, though she kept talking about Jasper and how he would really like to get to know me.
I was almost certain that she knew that I liked Jasper too and wanted to get to know him, but his safety and hers were far more important than me being selfish.
