Chapter 4
POV Jasper
I was already sitting at the table with my other siblings, anxiously waiting for Alice who wanted to ask Seraphina to sit with us.
I missed her smell already, which was fading more and more since the first lesson and I really wanted to be close to her and get to know her better, which proved to be extremely difficult with this Aaron around.
I held my hand lightly in front of my nose because over time I noticed the smell of other people again and had to swallow hard.
I envisioned the sweet scent of Seraphina that I would definitely never forget, and felt a little better.
"She really got you am I right brother?", Edward asked with a cheeky smile, as he was able to pick up on my thoughts.
He couldn't stop his smile as he got another whiff of them which revolved around Seraphina the most.
"Get out of my head Edward!", I hissed annoyed in his direction but was only met with a row of amused chuckles from my siblings.
"There is no need to be embarrassed", Emmett chimed in while holding Rosalie by his side.
Both of them could hardly take their hands off each other when they first met and even now it was still difficult for them.
However, my situation was completely different from them since Seraphina was human and knew nothing about vampires. That's why I had to be careful not to lose her or she would run away from me in fear.
That single thought immediately left a bitter taste in my mouth and I vowed that this would never happen.
She belonged by my side and I would never give up on her.
Suddenly the conversations almost instantly stopped and I looked up to see what was so exciting until my gaze fell on her; Seraphina.
Her sweet scent hit my nose immediately and I was able to visibly relax again.
She was talking to the blonde man next to her who looked quite similar to her.
There was a stunning smile on her lips that made me wish she would direct it at me instead.
Aaron, who was on her other side, put his arm around her shoulders again, almost making me growl.
I immediately felt the dark and jealous presence of the Major in the back of my mind, wanting to snatch Seraphina from Aaron's hands, but I couldn't give him the upper hand, not now.
I stared tensely at the trio, convinced my eyes were darkening slightly.
Unimpressed, Aaron stared through the canteen until his gaze fell on me and he immediately recognized my tension and dark gaze.
A mean smile appeared on his lips immediately and he pulled Seraphina a little more towards him.
I clenched my fist under the table and if Alice hadn't suddenly appeared next to me I probably would have ripped Aaron into pieces in front of everyone.
She took my hand soothingly and I looked at her with pain.
"I'm really sorry Jas, I tried but she declined", she said apologetically surprising the others.
"She's definitely different", Emmett smirked who has his arm still wrapped around Rosalie.
She also began to eye Seraphina with interest as she got her food.
Ever since the trio entered the canteen, there was almost non-stop whispering in every corner.
Whispers almost never bothered me because I just ignored them, but more and more often I overheard whispers that Aaron and Seraphina were dating.
A stabbing pain ran through my undead heart and my gaze darted to Seraphina, who had sat down at an empty table relatively far away.
Her gentle gaze swept through the canteen while the blonde next to her continued to talk and finally got stuck on him again.
She was still talking to the blonde and gave Aaron a quick smile as he sat down with them.
Although the many other students were slowly engaging in conversations again, their eyes fell as often as possible to the small table where the 3 new students were sitting.
"Oh dear brother, she's a stubborn one. This is going to be a real challenge", Emmett said to me, overhearing the whispering as did everyone else at our table.
"The three are different", Rosalie began almost thoughtfully and then looked around again, "any other person would have reacted differently to our invitation."
POV Seraphina
I sat down with Micah at a table that was off to the side and listened intently to how boring his day had been.
I had to grin broadly and admitted that not much had happened in my class either.
My gaze wandered through the full canteen, where the conversations finally continued again, but I still felt countless people stare at me, which were slowly beginning to annoy me.
A tray was placed next to me and Aaron took the vacant seat.
I smiled at him once and then started eating too.
"Those Cullens, I heard about them...", Aaron started the conversation, glancing at the two of us, "they're all supposed to be adopted and two of them are dating."
I shrugged and Micah only casually looked up from his meal.
"Don't you think that's funny too?", he asked us and then began to eat as well.
I thought about his question for a moment, but didn't really know what was so funny about it and besides, it's none of our business anyway.
"What's so weird about that?", I asked confused, looking at Aaron who was eyeing me.
"So you would date your brother or what?", he asked, grinning cheekily at me.
Immediately I rolled my eyes and Micah almost choked on his yogurt.
Amused by his reaction, I gave him a quick pat on the back to stop him from choking and then looked back at Aaron, who also had to stifle a laugh.
"That's a whole different thing", I explained, crossing my arms and continued, "Micah and I are siblings by blood, but with the Cullens, only Jasper and Rosalie share the same blood."
I continued eating and didn't notice Aaron's eyes narrowing, "and you know that from where?"
"From Alice", I said without looking up and started eating my yoghurt as well.
I was expecting Aaron's question since he had already expressed his distrust of the Cullens, especially for Jasper.
"Well I still think it's pretty weird", Aaron finally gave up and leaned back in his chair.
"By the way, I also heard that it's volleyball in sports today," he said with a now wide grin, whereupon Micah and I looked up with a grin as well.
"It's time to show them what it means to play volleyball", Micah said and we had to laugh.
The three of us always formed a group in the Academy and our hard training definitely paid off. Now we finally got another chance to show our skills.
"Great, first free period and of course I'm alone", I murmured to myself and sighed deeply.
After the break, we had parted ways and I was thinking about what to do now, until I saw a sign that said 'Library'.
A smile immediately crossed my lips and I entered the large room with tons of books.
I had always been fascinated by books and how much one could learn from them. I also preferred quiet places where you could concentrate well, which is why even in my Academy days you could often find me in the big library, if you knew the hidden corners of course.
I went all the way to the back and then sat at a table that was in a corner as to not be disturbed by others.
I pulled a book that I found interesting off the shelf and started reading it.
Finally I got some rest from all the staring and was able to relax a bit again and just couldn't imagine the world without books.
Since I was so engrossed in the book, it wasn't until someone cleared their throat that I looked up to see Jasper in front of me.
"Hey Seraphina, is this seat free?", he asked gesturing to the seat across from me with a gentle smile.
I pulled myself out of my surprised state and gave him a hesitant nod, "yes, of course."
I assumed he had a free period as well and looked back at my book. Strangely enough, his presence didn't bother me one bit and I felt kinda safe with him around.
I was supposed to keep my distance, but that proved exceedingly difficult when Jasper followed me everywhere.
I was a little bit glad that he wasn't put off by Aaron.
Most people almost immediately kept their distance from me, but Jasper was obviously very different.
Her defied Aaron and seemed determined to keep talking to me.
I read a few more paragraphs and felt his eyes on me constantly.
He literally burned a hole in my head until I had enough and looked up again, "can I help you?"
He immediately looked me in the eyes and flashed a charming smile, "sorry ma'm it's just that you're so captivating to me."
I looked at him with slightly wide eyes and had to swallow once.
I didn't expect his answer at all, which is why I didn't know what to answer.
My heart started beating a little faster again and a slight chuckle could be heard from the person across from me.
"I'd really like to get to know you better", Jasper finally admitted, sitting bolt upright in front of me; his gaze never left me.
On the one hand, his request made me extremely happy as I felt somehow attracted to him.
He was absolutely charming and although Alice said he was rather reserved and quiet, I found that almost particularly appealing about him.
I'd love to get to know him too, but I knew it wasn't a good idea.
I wasn't allowed to put anyone in danger and nobody was allowed to know the truth about our move to Forks.
Apparently Jasper saw my inner conflict in my eyes and he tensed a little.
He looked down briefly and must have swallowed hard until he looked up at me with an almost fearful look.
"You're not dating that Aaron are you?", he asked softly and I could have sworn his eyes darkened briefly.
Almost immediately I forgot my conflict and a big grin spread over my face.
I had to start laughing and quickly covered my mouth with my hand.
Jasper looked a little confused and must have been trying to interpret me, which he obviously wasn't able to do.
"Aaron and I together? Where did you get that from?", I asked laughing and Jasper relaxed a bit again.
"Aaron... he's like a brother to me," I said softly, looking back at Jasper.
"Well, a lot of people talked about it because they saw you close and he's always with you..." he admitted almost ashamed and looked at me apologetically.
"Didn't think you were one for rumours, they're almost always wrong", I continued to laugh and a gentle smile now crossed his features, "I guess it looks like it."
"Would you like to do something with me then?", he asked almost hopefully and I furtively looked down.
I nervously played with the hem of my t-shirt and just didn't know how to go about this.
As much as I wanted to get to know him, I couldn't let him distract me. His mere presence triggered something inexplicable within me that I had no control over.
I then took a deep breath and said, "It's complicated..."
He looked at me slightly confused and I just decided to get it over with quickly, otherwise I might give in.
"It would be better if you kept your distance from me... t-this won't work out between us", I pressed out immediately feeling a pang in my heart as if trying to tell me it was a mistake.
I quickly grabbed my bag and muttered another "I'm sorry" at him before sprinting out of the library, leaving the book completely forgotten on the table.
