SHE ATE MY HEART is Jennifer's Body meets the classic horror film Halloween (1978), except these final girls are Black, queer, and more than a little dangerous all by themselves.

Jaela (JL) Thompson and Heron Prescott are twentysomething freelance paranormal investigators exploring the abandoned, rusted-out corners of their former steel mill town, Mortland, Ohio. Between JL's overnight shifts at the Mortland Hospital morgue and Heron's ride-share and food delivery business, these former high school besties only get to hang out during their weekend jaunts to the condemned mines and mills that once kept Mortland fed and are starving the shabby post-industrial town to death now they're gone.

During their investigations, they've had countless encounters with the paranormal: the restless spirits of the newly dead, possessive demons, shades of the long departed, and what passes for fairies in the Heartland. Now there's something new prowling the rafters of old corrugated factories that go silent at nightfall. It slices through town like a scythe, gutting unwary travelers and slashing tires, disturbing the evening quiet with gurgling cries for help that won't come.

JL is secretly drawn by the blood and Heron is secretly drawn by the fear; together they're drawn to the mystery. Something is taking lives in Mortland and leaving bloodied, hollowed husks for the constables to find, but some of them are being drained of life to the last drop while others are being devoured. For the first time in their lives, JL and Heron have secrets they can't share.

The bodies are piling up in the streets, and the police can't catch what they can't see. It's time for Mortland Supernatural's finest to take a swing at the case. Every now and then, it takes a monster to catch a monster. Or maybe even two.
