SEVEN

After that incident, I didn't come home.

I stayed out for two-days mostly doing work and sleeping in hotel rooms. But still, I couldn't focus on anything except her.

I located the farmhouse. I had the location but I couldn't go there just yet.

I revived the engine, my Porche roared on the deftest motion. I lowered the windows and could feel the fresh air clashing against my flushed face.
My fingers clenched around the steering as I sped up the car a little more.

Nate, you are my world. I love you.
Nate, listen to me. Who are you? I don't know this person, officer. Take him away, please.

I snapped my eyes open and pressed the brake, the car screeching into a halt. I wiped my face and took deep breaths. That voice, it had been haunting me for years. Was I hearing it when I was awake too? No, I was just stressed. I took out my pills from my jacket's pocket and swallowed some down.

I looked around, I was in the middle of nowhere.

I turned the engine on and drove again now a bit relaxed. I felt elated.

Out if the blue, I felt this aching sensation all over me like a thousand needles were being poked into my body. What the heck was wrong with me?

I took a few turns and stopped the car right in front of the CWT organization aka The City Pub. This was where I worked.

It stood for the Custodian of the White Treaty.

I got off the car and jogged toward the main door. The only way to cool down was to work and right now, I had one only case pending. Our organization did not actually have a definite location because it held private information regarding some really pertinent corporations and our organization was sort of the gatekeeper of every other one.

We were the link between the various organizations who were the creators/ suppliers of various illegal stuff and the private buyers/underworld. And, we had been like this since the White Treaty was signed.

Each and every deal exceeding a certain decided worth value needed to go through us, first. We in return assured them safety, privacy, and some profits as we only provided the transportation costs and such.

All around the world, we had different branches and here in Southern Australia, we had the main office, which was also scattered in a number of places for safety reasons.

Here, inside the pub, there was a way through a normal room which directly went to my office. Such a hassle.

The guards around here, the owner and many of them dancing on the floor were my men.

I went inside the pub. I passed through the drunk teenagers grinding against each other while their sweaty bodies nauseated my nose, the loud music was deafening my ears properly.

I made it through them alive and then taking the stairs, I reached the first floor. There were no lights down the hallway as I tried to find the exact room. The first floor was the place where the drunken mistakes were made.

I swiped my phone out of my pant's pocket and turned the flashlight on. With the guidance of the small beam of light, I navigated my way through the drab. I stopped on my tracks as I read the room number 301.

I pressed my fingers around the metal knob and twisted it with a little force but it didn't open. Damn it. It needed the identity card to open. I checked my jacket and took a white card out and swiped it in the hole beside the knob.
And as the door clicked open, I went in and locked it from inside.

I brushed my fingers along the wall opposite to the door and tapped the lights on. I switched off my flashlight and put it in the back pocket.

On the left side, there was a bookshelf which I pushed aside after I took down a few books away from it. The strong smell of the wood overwhelmed my senses. Recently, this bookshelf was brought in.

I brushed my hand along the tiles of the wall and when my hand fell on the right tile, the block moved aside creating a space more like a pass way.

I went inside and the blocks rearranged themselves like before. I had no problem breathing rather the darkness felt calming. I had work to do so  I clapped and the lights turned on.

Fancy. I smiled at Andrew's creativity.

I sat on my leather chair placed against the desk and sighed.

I hated working from office because of the amount of energy sucked off for just getting into the cabin was crazy.

It was a small cabin with the most high-tech facilities. The walls were soundproof, there were ventilators at the top corners of the room, at the left, there were all the files I needed and there was also a coffee machine. Magic, wasn't it?

I opened the drawer at my right and took out a big fat file with A printed on it. Black files contained all the reports of the organization breaking the code, deceiving or double-crossing the White Treaty which by the way, the A-organization had an ample of.

I went through the pages which read of stealing other organization's property, disrespecting the laws, taking over other's deals and trying to retain its control over others on a regular basis.

I furrowed my eyebrows and massaged my forehead with my index finger.

All these had happened within the jurisdiction of Austin.

And the matter of fact that he had been hiding his identity from the CWT itself had just added him as first on the hit-list.

As we had been making individual deals of cargos and ships with A-organization, they backfired on us by not giving us our share and killing our own men.

This pushed our boss over the edge and so, here I was.

I went through each and every file but just like last time, I got nothing.

Austin never stayed at one place for more than three days. He had his loyal dogs beside him all the time. Before all this, there was no hint of him in the system. His father had his identity disguised to keep him safe. Over the years, A-organization had become too prosperous and ambitious.

I sighed heavily as my heart started to throb and eyes hurt.

My mind wandered again to her.

Those big widened dark brown orbs which almost looked as if black. Her chin jutted up, her eyebrows scrunched together.

My heartbeat strengthened causing my chest to hurt. I had trouble breathing so I held on to the edge of the desk and took deep breaths.

Stop thinking about her, you fool. Don't you see the similarities? She is just like her: filthy and heartless. They all are the same. Money-sucking piece of crap disguised as angels.

My trance soon got interrupted by a call.
