EIGHT
"Nathaniel?" It was her.
It felt different hearing her say my name. I liked the way my name rolled off her tongue; it ought to be weird but ended up being captivating.
But, who told her my name? Who else, Andrew!
"Yeah, what?" I snapped back. I couldn't let that affect me.
It was weird how she made me question my instincts.
"Can you pick me up from the Central Market?" she asked urgently.
"Why? Hudson jilted you off?" I asked.
"No, fucker. I'm stuck and the cops are behind me," she hissed.
"What the heck did you do?" I snapped at her stupidity.
Damn, this damsel. Always in top-level distress. Hudson was supposed to take her shopping.
"Bring your ass here first, Nathaniel," she screeched over the phone dragging my name more than enough.
I scrunched my face into disgust as I guided myself out of the club as quickly as possible. After I reached out, the cold air brushed against my warm skin, making me shiver. The night was cooler and relaxing.
It was almost dark outside. The sun had set leaving the day-light closing its business, bidding farewell to Australia.
I jogged toward my car, hopped in and connected my phone with the ear device.
"No, you tell me. I'm on the way." I said while igniting the engine of my car.
Backing the car, I drove toward the Central Market.
"I was shopping when I found this guard harassing a girl so I stepped in and one thing led to the other. Long story short, the management called up the cops on me. I am on a run. So, hurry," she breathed out the last sentence as if she were still on a run. I could hear her rapid breathing from the phone.
I sped up the car and reached there promptly. I looked around to find her and saw a brunette holding several bags in both her hands, running like a wild-ass. It was her. I rolled my eyes. Her hair was moving to-and-fro against the soft breeze. A shaft of street light feathered her features, she squirmed under its touch as she ran.
I pulled the car over and opened the door just in front of her. She halted and jumped into the passenger seat quickly.
Her sharp breaths filled the air, her face was flushed. She placed the bags into the backseat panting like a crazy.
I shot a death glare at her as I drove.
"Oh, fuck. That was...close," she said huffing, her chest rising up and down rapidly, and she chuckled.
I pressed my lips into a thin line and passed her a pointed look.
"Why you keep attracting trouble like a magnet?" I said, exasperated.
Damn, what if she got arrested? My whole plan would have been spoiled.
My blood started to boil at her insanity.
There was no possible way she would have left Australia without CWT's consent. Where she would have gone anyway? She has no family, no relatives, and no friends. Only one place---- the A-organization.
"That guard was being a jerk." She tried to justify her actions, throwing her hands up in the air like it was the most obvious thing to go.
"Ever heard of laying low?"I gritted my teeth and clutched the steering wheel tighter around my fingers.
"Why you hate women so much?" she asked while trying to look into my eyes.
Stay calm, Nathaniel.
"You are incorrigible," I said, sighing heavily.
The way she twisted and turned every topic to that single issue drove me crazy.
"You know what? Let me drive now." She clicked her seatbelt open moving forward, she straddled my lap.
It took me by surprise and I stopped the car abruptly. As the car halted, my body jerked forward causing my face to be inches away from her jugular.
My breathing hitched as I sucked in a deep breath.
Rather than helping me calm down, it filled my nose with her scent; intoxicating my cerebrum and increasing the amount of dopamine in my body.
I needed to break apart from her. I clutched her hip to push her but due to the position we're in, I felt myself leaning into her even more.
Her hands were on either side of my face, clutching into the headrest. She smelt like an exquisite blend of dark chocolate and musk.
Suddenly, I felt an eerie sensation at the bottom of my stomach, my heart palpitated.
She shuddered. I felt a twitch in my pants. I tried to move a little and as a result, my lips touched her neck.
Her skin was so warm and soft, I felt myself gravitating toward her body. I guess it was her soft spot cause she moaned. I felt my body heat up and hell, someone down there, was now wide awake. I was losing control.
This was just too much, my mind was drifting into an unknown land. She leaned down, our noses almost touching. Her dark orbs were widened and her lips parted a little. She was looking at my lips and I found myself leaning in.
*Tring! Tring!*
Great timing! It was my phone. She cursed and took it out of my back pocket while leaning toward me so that our chests collided against each other.
I groaned. Not helping, young lady.
Damn, I could see the whole Milkyway right now. I pressed a button and the window pane was down.
I needed some air and...space.
I snatched my phone from her and took the call. It was from my boss.
"What? Okay, boss." I said urgently before I put my phone back.
"I have some work. We need to go," I said hurriedly. Her eyebrows scrunched together as if it irritated her. She quickly pulled apart and sat back on her seat.
I gripped the wheel a little too tight and revived the engine.
The file was here. The White Treaty file. I had to report at the office.
After that incident, I did not look at her once. I kept driving without uttering a word. As we reached the house, she opened the door and ran inside the house without sparing a glance at me.
See, always ready to trap guys. Don't fall into her trap, boy. She is trouble. She is just like her. Filthy and insensitive.
"Neil," I heard, a familiar voice whispered from behind me. I squeezed my eyes shut and focused on my breathing.
No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening now.
I pursed my lips and raked a hand through my hair. Without wasting a second, I took off. I needed my medicine which I left at the office.
