Shawn's Side {19}
“Hey Type,” I greeted, going up to him in school.
“Hey there,” he grumbled, glaring at his cell phone as he texted.
“Guess who isn’t a virgin anymore?” I said with a smug smirk.
He looked up from his phone and his eyes widened a little. “Legit?”
I nodded and he broke out into a huge grin. He wrapped his arm around my neck and ruffled my hair.
“Look who joined the club!” he said with a wink, releasing me. “What did Shane say when you told him?”
I froze. “Shane can’t know,” I growled dangerously. “If my parents find out…they’ll kill me, Type. They’ll literally kill me. And Shane stutters when he tries to lie. He would tell them without meaning to. It’s better for him if he doesn’t know.”
“Easy kid. I won’t tell,” Type said with a shrug.
“Let’s go find Shane,” I said, turning and walking away to find my twin.
I spotted him talking to Luna and Nina in the hallway. I went over and wrapped my arms around Nina.
She jumped in surprise before smiling and kissing me. “Hi there,” she said, wrapping her arms around me.
“Hi,” I said, kissing her again.
I turned to Shane and frowned. “Shane, are you okay?” I asked.
Shane looked up and nodded. I frowned deeper as I searched his eyes. He was lying to me. Something was wrong.
The bell exploded and I kissed Nina. “I’ll meet up with you later,” I promised before going over to Shane and tugging him out of earshot of everyone.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Did someone say something to you?” I asked him. If someone had been mean to my brother, I’d kill them.
Shane shook his head, dropping his eyes to my feet. “I just…I don’t know. I have a bad feeling, I guess,” he mumbled.
“A bad feeling about what?” I asked, frowning.
“Shawn, are you hiding something from me?” he asked, not meeting my eyes.
No, no, no. Shane couldn’t know about me and Nina. Not only would he get mad at me, but he might accidentally tell mom and dad. I loved him to death, but I couldn’t let him know about that.
“No. I would never hide anything from you Shane,” I said in fake shock. “You know that!”
“Well…you did when all that stuff with Luna went down,” he said, looking upset.
I reached down and grabbed his hand, looking into his eyes. “I’m not hiding anything from you Shane,” I promised as sincerely as I could. I had to reassure him.
Slight anger at Luna flared up in me. Shane never used to question me before she came along. He used to just trust me and believe what I said. I rarely lied to my brother, and when I did, it was only to protect him.
Guilt washed over Shane’s face. “I’m sorry Shawn. I know you wouldn’t hide things from me. Sorry I questioned you,” he said miserably.
“Hey, it’s okay,” I said with a smile, pulling him into a hug. I released him and ruffled his hair playfully. He laughed and swatted my hand away.
“We should go to Saccento’s tonight with Luna and Nina,” Shane offered.
“Yea, that sounds like fun!” I said, slinging an arm around his shoulder as we began to walk towards our lockers.
So afterschool, we hung out for a little before driving down to Saccento’s with the girls. We went inside and Chris glanced us and sighed.
“Alright, follow me,” he grumbled, leading us to a table in the back. We sat down and Chris raised an eyebrow at us all.
“Give me your drink and food orders,” he said. “I’m too lazy to take them at separate times.”
We told him our orders and he disappeared to get our drinks. I smiled over at Nina and she smiled back at me.
“Did you tell Shane?” she asked silently when Shane and Luna were distracted.
I shook my head and flashed her a dangerous look. “No. And we’re not going to tell him,” I snarled, keeping my voice down so that Shane wouldn’t overhear.
“Calm down,” she said gently.
“Hey Shawn, we’re thinking of going to the movies this weekend. Do you guys want to come?” Shane asked.
“No!” I snapped at him. I took a deep breath as he stared at me in surprise. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you Shane. We don’t want to go, but thanks for asking.” I gave him a slight smile, feeling bad for snapping at him like that.
“Are you okay Shawn?” Shane asked, concern in his eyes. “Why are you so mad?”
“I’m not mad!” I said, quickly growing impatient. I took a few more deep breaths and turned to Nina, ignoring Shane.
“We should go to the mall or something tomorrow,” I offered. “I need to get new jeans anyways.”
Nina shrugged and nodded. “Yea. That sounds fun,” she said, giving me a small smile.
Chris came over to us with our drinks and set them down. He glanced at me and Shane and raised an eyebrow. “Behave, you little bastards. I have my eyes on you.”
He left our table and Shane and I rolled our eyes. Oh Uncle Chris. I had a feeling dad had him spy on us when we ate here.
“We’re going to go to the bathroom. Be right back,” Shane said as he and Luna got up and left towards the restrooms.
I turned to Nina and glared at her. “Listen up,” I growled. “You don’t tell Shane. You don’t hint at it. You don’t say a fucking word about it. You don’t tell Luna, either. That bitch will go screaming about it to Shane. Shane can’t know, if he finds out because of you, I’ll make you regret it!”
Nina frowned deeply at me. She reached across the table and took my hand. “I won’t tell him Shawn. I promise. Calm down,” she said.
“Good,” I hissed, yanking my hand out of hers. “Better not break that fucking promise.”
“Shawn, I’m not going to tell him,” she said, sounding a little angry. “So just calm down already!”
“Shut up Nina!” I said furiously, slamming my hand down on the table. “Just shut up!”
She snapped her mouth shut and watched me nervously. I glared at her before relaxing back against the seat, seeing Shane and Luna heading back towards our table laughing together.
I smiled pleasantly at Nina as Shane and Luna sat down. “This is nice. I like coming here together,” I said casually.
Nina nodded, still looking nervous. “Y-Yea. Me too!” she said, forcing a bright smile.
I would have to keep a better eye on Nina. If she let it slip to Luna or Shane, I was screwed. That would start a fight between me and Shane, and possibly get me murdered by my parents. They couldn’t know I wasn’t a virgin anymore.
I slung an arm around Shane’s shoulders and smiled at him. I wouldn’t let him find out, no matter what I had to do to keep Nina quiet. I was in love with her, but if she was going to tell Luna or Shane, I would have to teach her a little lesson.
