Shawn's Side {15}
***Nina’s POV***
“I can’t believe it’s already been three months since Shawn asked me out!” I said with a bright smile as Luna and I sat in my bedroom.
She and I had sort of been friends before, but since we started dating the twins, we had become really closer.
Luna smiled at me but then frowned a little. “Nina, he hasn’t hit you, has he? Shane told me he’s been getting more and more violent lately. Shane said he’s getting a little afraid.”
I shook my head. “No, he hasn’t hit me,” I said. Sure, he had yelled a few times and raised his hand, bit he had never actually hit me. He had a temper, but he always got some sort of control of himself before he ever took it too far.
“I just don’t get how you can date him. He can be such a mean person. Especially to poor Shane. Shane wanted to quit smoking, but now he won’t because Shawn keeps pressuring him,” Luna said in disgust.
“I’ll talk to him about it. I’m sure he has a reason. You know how much he loves Shane and wants to protect him,” I said with a small smile. I thought it was adorable how much the twins loved each other and how close they were.
Even Luna had to smile a little at that. “Yea, it is pretty sweet how close they are. But it’s also a little dangerous. No offense Nina, but your boyfriend definitely abuses Shane’s loyalty to him, and you know it. Everyone does. Even Shane knows it. He’s just too timid to stand up for himself,” she said with a sad sigh.
I bit my lip against the mean reply rising in me. That was Shane’s problem, not Shawn’s. Shane needed to learn to stand up for himself. And I had a feeling that Luna was starting to mess with his head too. That kid was broken.
But Shawn? Shawn was cracked. He wasn’t broken yet. I didn’t want to see him break like his twin brother had. I wanted to see him happy and wanted to fill in those cracks.
Luna stood up and sighed. She gave me a quick hug before running a hand through her hair. “I have to go. I’ll see you later Nina.”
“Bye Luna,” I said and waved to her. She left my house and I got dressed and went downstairs where my parents were waiting for me so we could go get dinner.
My dad drove us to Saccento’s and we went inside. Shane came over to us and gave me a shy smile as he led us to a table.
“Hi, I’m Sh-Shane and I’ll be your waiter for tonight. May I get you drinks to start with?” he asked, speaking carefully so he wouldn’t stutter.
We gave him our drinks orders. “Hey Shane, why doesn’t Shawn work here?” I asked as my dad gave his drink order.
“Sh-Shawn was working at the grocery store at the t-time. Twins working at the same restaurant would’ve been too confusing,” he said, still shy.
“Why doesn’t he still work there?” I asked in confusion.
Shane blushed. “He, uh, he f-f-failed the dr-drug test,” he explained quietly. “But that was two years ago, and he just recently applied to work at the summer program,” he added quickly, a defensive tone slipping into his voice.
I gave him a reassuring smile. I wasn’t going to judge Shawn. I knew he had had it rough for a long time, and had gotten into drugs and booze. He hadn’t known any better and he told me his parents hadn’t really been around much when it all happened.
Shane relaxed and left to get my family drinks. He got us food and we began to eat as he walked away to leave us alone.
“So Nina, that’s Shawn’s brother?” my dad asked. I nodded.
“I haven’t met Shawn that much. I would like to get to know him,” dad said simply. Aw man. That meant he was going to threaten Shawn. Poor boy.
“Okay dad,” I said with a sigh, knowing it was going happen no matter what I did. Poor Shawn was going to be terrified of my dad.
We finished eating a left. My parents dropped me off at Shawn’s house and I rang the doorbell. His mom answered and smiled at me, letting me in.
“Hello Nina! Shawn’s in his bedroom. I’m sorry about the mss in there. The twins never clean it,” she said with a sigh.
“Thank you Mrs. Jarvis!” I said and smiled before heading towards Shawn’s room.
I didn’t understand why he didn’t like his mom. She seemed so nice. He told me that he had a reason, but he had never actually explained it to me. I just knew that he hated his mom with a passion and it made me sad to see. A son shouldn’t hate his mother like that.
I turned to go up the stairs and jumped back as I nearly slammed into his dad. Mr. Jarvis terrified the hell out of me. There was just something about him.
“Sorry about that Nina,” he said and offered me a slight smile. “Didn’t mean to scare you and almost run into you. Are you looking for Shawn? He’s up in his room.”
“Uh, y-yea. Sorry about that. Thanks Mr. Jarvis,” I said and hurried up the stairs.
I let myself into Shawn’s room and he glanced up at me and instantly held his arms out to me. I went into them and pressed my lips to his. He smiled.
“Hey. What are you doing here?” he asked.
“Just dropping by to hang out for a little.” I sighed. “My dad wants to get to know you.”
He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Okay, okay. I’ll take the threat like a man. Just don’t let him hold a gun while he does it.”
I giggled and kissed him again, resting my head on his shoulder. “I’ll tell him to leave it in the basement Shawn,” I said playfully.
He smiled at me. “Tomorrow?” he asked and I nodded. He kissed me gently and the look in his eyes was full of love. I couldn’t believe he could ever snap the way he sometimes did. But I knew that Shawn would never hurt me. He could be controlling, but he wasn’t abusive. And I was in love with him.
