9. Wedding Day

I sat in the chair as someone did my hair. I kept tapping my foot. Today is my wedding day, and I'm nervous. I'm currently engaged to the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, and I can't wait to be married to him.

"Are you okay?" The woman who was doing my hair asked.

"Um, yeah, just nervous." I said. Aaliyah, one of my bridesmaids and Shawn's sister, came up to me.

"Why are you nervous?" Aaliyah asked.

"What if Shawn decides that he actually doesn't want to marry me and I get left at the altar? What if he doesn't like the dress? What if he stops loving me? What if -" I started before Aaliyah stopped me.

"Y/n, he loves you so much. Of course he wants to marry you and he won't be leaving you at the altar. He's going to love the dress." She said. I sighed.

"I want to talk to him. Is there anyway that I could, like, talk to him through the door since it's bad luck for him to see me before the wedding?" I asked. Karen, my soon to be mother in law, was standing nearby and she nodded.

"Sure. We'll all step out and Aaliyah can grab Shawn." She said.

"Okay." I said. Everyone was kicked out of the room. I was already in my white, lace, and floral wedding dress and I had my makeup on. Soon, there was a knock on the door.

"Babe can you open it a little bit so I can hold your hand please?" Shawn asked.

"Yeah." I said and I opened it just enough for him to slip his hand in. I held his hand and felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time.

"Aaliyah said that you're anxious and I can feel your hands shaking. What's going on darling? Are you, are you thinking of calling off the wedding?" Shawn asked.

"No, oh my gosh no. I still want to marry you, I just feel very nervous. I have about a million things running through my head right now." I said.

"Why babe? What's running through your head? Let's take it step by step." Shawn asked and said. I squeezed his hand and he squeezed back.

"Okay, so, I'm really nervous that I'm going to be ready to walk down the aisle but then someone will tell me that you didn't want to marry me so you left." I said.

"No, oh my gosh hell no babe. I want to marry you so badly and I'll be seeing you at that altar babe. What else is on your mind my love?" Shawn asked.

"What if you don't like my wedding dress?" I asked.

"Oh darling, I'm going to love whatever dress you've chosen. You always look beautiful no matter what. Are you already in it?" Shawn asked.

"Yeah. I have my makeup on and I have my hair done. I just really want you to like the dress." I said.

"I will honey, I promise. Is there anything else that you're worried about my love?" Shawn asked.

"Shawn, what if you stop loving me?" I asked.

"Baby, I wish that I could hug you and hold you right now. I love you so damn much darling and that's never going to change, I promise, and you know that I keep my promises, right?" Shawn asked. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Right. I love you too. We should probably finish getting ready." I said.

"Yeah. I'll see you in a little bit baby girl." He said. I smiled.

"Okay. I'll be the one in white." I said.

"Okay. I'll be the one in the suit wearing the beautiful tie that you picked out for me." Shawn said. I squeezed his hand again and then he left. When everyone came back into the room, I felt better. Soon, I was about to walk down the aisle.

"Ready?" My dad asked. I nodded.

"Yes, definitely." I said. The doors opened, and when my eyes fixed on Shawn, my smile was as wide as ever. His eyes widened and he smiled when he saw me. His hand went to his mouth and I could tell that he was about to cry. When I locked eyes with him, it was like we were the only two people in the world. I soon got to him, gave my dad a kiss on his cheek, handed my flowers to my maid of honor, Grace, she helped me to straighten out my dress and then I held Shawn's hands.

"Wow." He mouthed as some happy tears fell onto his cheeks and I smiled and blushed. The officiator began speaking but Shawn and I were staring at each other.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..." The officiator said. Soon, it got to our vows, and Shawn went first.

"I Shawn, take you Y/n, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part." Shawn said. I smiled. Then it was my turn.

"I Y/n, take you Shawn, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part." I said, and Shawn's smile widened. Soon, rings were exchanged and it was time to kiss.

"By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Shawn, you may kiss your bride." The officiator said. Shawn immediately put his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I pulled away and smiled at each other.

"You're my wife." He said and I nodded before we walked down the aisle, holding hands but high-fiving loved ones. As soon as we stepped out of the room, Shawn led me somewhere that we could have a private moment, and he shut the door.

"Hi hubby." I said. He smiled.

"Hi wifey. Oh my gosh babe we're married." Shawn said. I nodded.

"I know, oh my gosh I'm finally married to my best friend." I said.

"Hey don't forget that I'm finally married to my best friend too." Shawn said with a chuckle and I giggled and nodded.

"Yeah. So do you like the dress?" I asked. Shawn nodded as he took a step back and eyed me up and down.

"Honey, I've seen you wear a lot of different dresses, but this one is my favorite. You look absolutely... I'm at a loss for words. Stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, every nice word that I can think of. I love it so much." Shawn said. I blushed.

"I'm so glad that you love it. You look so handsome honey." I said and Shawn smiled.

"Thank you baby. I loved the tie and the tie clip. I love you so much Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said.

"Oh my gosh I'm Mrs. Mendes now! I love you too." I said. Shawn chuckled. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Shawn said. Manny, my father in law, poked his head in.

"Are you guys ready?" He asked. We nodded and walked hand in hand to our reception. I heard the DJ announce us.

"Introducing for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Mendes!" The DJ said. Shawn and I walked in. I had my last dance with my dad, Shawn had his last dance with his mum, and then we had our first dance together as husband and wife. Ed Sheeran got up on stage and began to sing Thinking Out Loud. Shawn held one of my hands in his, and his other hand was on my waist as I put my free hand on his shoulder.

"I love you." He said. My smile widened.

"I love you too. We're officially married now Shawn." I said. He nodded.

"Yup. How does it feel to be Mrs. Y/n Mendes?" Shawn asked.

"Absolutely wonderful. How does it feel to be a married man?" I asked. Shawn twirled me and then pulled me close to him again.

"Absolutely wonderful." He said. He then rested his forehead against mine.

"When I started to walk down the aisle and we locked eyes, it felt like we were the only two people in the world." I said. Shawn pulled his forehead away from mine and nodded.

"I know, I felt the same way." He said. Soon, the song came to an end and Shawn dipped me as our friends and family cheered.

"Shawn and Y/n, I wish you many years of love and happiness. Congratulations." Ed said. Shawn and I went up to the stage to give Ed hugs and thank him. Shawn then went up to the microphone.

"Y/n and I want to thank all of you guys for coming to celebrate our love, we really appreciate it and we really appreciate you guys. Okay, now, let's get this party started." Shawn said and then we got off the stage. I smiled as Shawn helped me down.

"What are we doing now?" I asked my handsome husband. He spotted someone and smiled.

"We're going to see Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake." Shawn said.

"Okay." I said as I smiled at his enthusiasm.

"Hey! Congratulations!" Jimmy and Justin said.

"Thank you." Shawn and I said.

"Y/n, you look so beautiful." Justin said. Shawn instantly wrapped his arms around me.

"Watch it Justin, that's my wife you're talking about." Shawn said and I laughed. Justin put his hands up in a surrender.

"Sorry man, I'm just saying." Justin said.

"It's okay. Are you guys having fun?" Shawn asked. They nodded.

"This is such a beautiful wedding. Like honestly, just the view of Boston is beautiful. Why did you guys to get married in Boston rather than Toronto?" Jimmy asked.

"Well Boston is the city that we met in, and that we fell in love in, and it's where we had our first three kisses. Boston is just really important to our love story, so we figured that it would be the best place to get married in." Shawn said and I nodded.

"So Y/n, you're officially Y/n Mendes. How do you feel?" Jimmy asked.

"I feel wonderful! I'm very happy that I get to spend the rest of my life with this amazing man and that for the rest of my life my last name will be Mendes." I said with a smile. Shawn kissed the side of my head, so I smiled at him. Someone then came up to us.

"It's time to cut the cake." They said. We nodded, told Jimmy and Justin that we would see them later, and we cut the cake. At the end of the night, Shawn and I went back to our house and we would leave for our honeymoon in the morning. Shawn picked me up bridal style and carried me over the threshold. Once we were inside, he set me down and turned to me as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and I wrapped my arms around his waist.

"Welcome home Mrs. Mendes." He said. My smile widened.

"Please don't ever stop calling me that." I said. Shawn laughed.

"Well you're going to be Mrs. Mendes for the rest of your life, so I'll always call you that. I love you baby." Shawn said.

"I love you too." I said.

"Do you need help getting out of the dress?" Shawn asked. I looked down at my wedding dress, looked up at Shawn, and then pouted. "What? Why is my wife pouting?"

"Because once I take the dress off I'm probably never going to wear it again. I love this dress. I don't even want to fall asleep yet, I don't feel tired." I said. Shawn laughed.

"Do you want to at least take your heels off?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. I held his hands to keep my balance as I took off my heels. Josiah then emailed us some photos that he had taken at the wedding. Shawn asked if he could post some of them and Josiah said yes. I posted some too, but Shawn posted first. The first picture was Shawn with his hand to his mouth when he saw me walking down the aisle, the next was us standing at the altar together, the next one was our first kiss as husband and wife, and the rest of the pictures that Shawn posted onto Instagram were from our reception. I read the caption.

"Y/n, my sweet girl, we got married less than twenty four hours ago and I'm already somehow more in love with you than I was before. The second that I laid eyes on you, I knew that you were the one that I wanted - and still want - to spend the rest of my life with. I can't believe that we're married babe! I know that you were worried about me liking your dress, but darling, you looked absolutely stunning - to the point where I cried happy tears when I saw you. I love you so beyond much my beautiful and amazing wife. Thank you for making me the happiest man alive. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you Mrs. Y/n Mendes." Shawn wrote and I smiled. As he had been writing is post, I was changing my usernames and things like that to Y/n Mendes on Instagram and Twitter and everything. I posted the picture of Shawn and I kissing for the first time as husband and wife, a picture of him dipping me during our first dance, and a few others, and wrote my caption.

"I can't stop smiling. Shawn, my amazing HUSBAND, thank you for making me your wife. I still can't believe it, but I am officially and forever your wife. I love you more than words will ever be able to describe and today was nothing short of magical. Everyday with you is magical, but this one especially. I'm so happy that you love the dress so much. You've made my life so much better in every possible way. I love you hubby, and I can't wait for the rest of our lives together. Xoxo - Mrs. Y/n Mendes." I wrote. Shawn smiled at me.

"I love it babe. I know that you don't want to take the dress off, but I think that we should get changed into pajamas and tomorrow we'll be off to Honolulu. Want to go to bed babe?" Shawn asked and I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. We climbed the stairs together and Shawn helped me take the dress off and then my makeup and I let my hair fall freely. We then got into bed together and I put my head on his chest.

"Good night Mrs. Mendes. I love you." Shawn said. I smiled as I closed my eyes.

"Good night Mr. Mendes. I love you too." I said, and with that, we fell asleep as husband and wife. I love Shawn, my newly wedded husband, so much.
