83. Hallelujah
A/n: Okay so I don't know why, but I've been listening to Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright on repeat so I decided to make an imagine about it. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Anyways, without further ado, let's begin!

Shawn's point of view
I texted Y/n Y/l/n asking what her address is. She texted me her address and asked why, so I told her that I was just curious. We met back in August, and she doesn't know this, but I instantly fell in love with her. Tour just ended and I arrived in Boston. I got an uber that took me to a local florist so I could get a bouquet of pink tulips - Y/n's favorite - and then I went to her house.
I knocked on the door and felt extremely nervous. She has no idea that I'm here and that I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend. We've been talking constantly - to the point that it annoyed the people around me - ever since we met. The door opened and it was a guy that I recognized as her brother. His eyes went wide when he saw me.
"Hey Shawn. What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Um, is Y/n home?" I asked. He shook his head.
"No. She just had to go to a doctors appointment but she's on her way home right now. Come on in." He said.
"Thanks." I said and went inside. There was a girl sitting on the couch and I recognized her as Y/n's best friend, and her brother's best friend, Grace. She smiled at me.
"Hi Shawn. It's so nice to finally meet you. Y/n has told us about you." She said. I smiled.
"Hi. Y/n's told me about you guys too." I said.
"Did she tell you that we're protective of her?" Grace asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said. Thomas, Y/n's brother, and Grace, nodded.
"Okay. Well, as long as you don't hurt her, we'll be good." Grace said.
"I won't hurt her, I promise. I know that she's been through a lot and I would never hurt her. Um, she doesn't know that I'm here by the way, and I want it to be a surprise, so please don't tell her." I said. They nodded.
"Okay. You know what you should do?" Grace asked.
"What?" I asked.
"You should hide your suitcase and then hide behind that chair, and then when she gets home and you hear the door, you can pop out and surprise her." Grace said. I nodded.
"Okay. Where should I put my suitcase?" I asked.
"I'll just put it over here." Thomas said. He moved it to the hallway where Y/n wouldn't see it. I hid behind the chair and soon heard the front door open. My heart began to race with both nerves and excitement.
"Hey. What's up with the pink tulips?" Y/n asked. Crap! I forgot to hide those. I stood up and Y/n screamed and her eyes went wide.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." I said. Y/n ran into my arms and hugged me.
"It's fine. Oh my gosh, what are you doing here?" She asked. I pulled away from the hug a little and smirked at her.
"Why? Do you want me to leave?" I teasingly asked.
"No! I'm just surprised that you're here." She said. I smiled.
"Well I missed a very pretty girl that I met in Boston and just had to see her again." I said. Y/n smiled.
"I'm guessing that I'm that girl?" She asked. I chuckled and nodded.
"Of course!" I said and she laughed.
"Well I just had to be sure." She said. I smiled at her.
"I think that you got more beautiful since I last saw you." I said and she blushed, causing me to chuckle.
"Oh my gosh." She said.
"Well it's the truth." I said. She smiled at me. Damn, I think that her smile could cure everything bad in the world. She then looked at her brother.
"As long as we leave the door open, is it okay if we hang out in my room?" She asked. He nodded.
"Sure." He said.
"Thanks." Y/n said. He nodded and we went into her room. The walls were painted blue and the flooring was hardwood. There were posters and pictures all over her walls and on her dresser. She had a tv in her room, and I remembered her telling me that it didn't have cable, just Netflix, Youtube, and Hulu. We sat down on her bed.
"I love your room." I said.
"Thank you. I definitely feel like it's fitting to who I am." She said. I nodded and then pointed at the pictures of me that she had on her wall.
"Hey, who's that guy?" I teasingly asked. Her face turned red.
"Oh, just some random singer that showed up at my house randomly." She said and I chuckled. I looked at her and studied her face as she looked at her room.
"So beautiful." I whispered, but she heard me and smiled at me. "Sorry, I um, I didn't mean for you to hear that."
"It's fine. That was really cute." She said. I smiled.
"So it's just like you?" I asked. She blushed.
"Nope, it's just like you." She said. I suddenly became nervous as I remembered what I wanted to ask her.
"Um, I have a question for you but I'm nervous to ask it." I said.
"Shawn, it's just me. You can ask me anything. You don't have to be nervous." She said.
"No because what if I get a response that changes everything?" I asked. She frowned.
"It's okay, we'll figure everything out. What's your question?" She asked. I took a deep breath before asking.
"Um, I really like you, and I was wondering, um, would you like to be my girlfriend?" I asked. Her eyes widened and she smiled.
"Really?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yes, but if you don't want to be my girlfriend you don't have to say yes. I'll completely understand." I said.
"Shawn, yes, I would like to be your girlfriend." She said. I smiled.
"Really?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yeah." She said.
"Thank God. I was so nervous that you were going to say no. Does this mean that I can kiss you anytime that I want?" I asked. She giggled and nodded.
"Yup." She said.
"So can I kiss you right now?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yup. You never have to ask Shawn." She said. I smiled and put my hands on her face gently and then put my lips on hers. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. We soon pulled away, out of breath, and smiled at each other.
"You're my girlfriend now." I said.
"Yup. And you're my boyfriend now. Can we, um, can we hold off on going public for right now?" She asked. I nodded, let go of her face, and then held her hands. I felt electricity spark through me yet I felt safe and warm at the same time.
"Of course. Remember what I said on our second date?" I asked. She thought for a moment.
"A lot of stuff was said that day." She said with a giggle. I nodded.
"Okay, true. I said that you set the pace, and I'll just keep up." I said. She smiled and nodded.
"Okay, thank you." She said.
"Of course." I said.
"So where are you staying and how long are you staying for?" She asked.
"Oh, I'm staying at a hotel nearby. I only booked the room for one night because I didn't know if you were going to say yes or not." I said. She nodded.
"Oh. I wish that you could stay for longer." She said. I nodded.
"Yeah. Well maybe I can stay for a couple more days and then head back to Canada for the holidays." I said.
"Can I lean on you?" She asked. I nodded.
"Of course. Come here." I said as I opened up my arms. She leaned on me and I wrapped my arms around her.
"After the holidays, when am I going to see you again?" She asked. I rubbed her arm and thought for a moment.
"I don't know. We'll make things work though." I said. We have to.
"Yeah." She said.
"When are you on spring break from college?" I asked.
"Sometime in March." She said.
"How about you come up to Canada then?" I asked. She sat up and her eyes looked sad.
"I don't think that I can afford a flight to Canada." She said. I kissed her cheek a few times gently and then looked at her.
"I'll pay for your ticket." I said. Her eyes went wide and she shook her head.
"No. No I can't do that to you Shawn. That's not why I said yes to being your girlfriend. I said yes to being your girlfriend because of your heart and soul, not because of the money or the fame or the gifts." She said. I put my hand to her cheek.
"I know that baby. I know that. I want to do this, I want to pay for you plane ticket to come see me. Please." I said. She closed her eyes and rested her forehead against mine.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"Positive." I said.
"Okay." She said. I smiled.
"Thank you." I said.
"You're welcome." She said. Later on, her mom got home, and she told her mom that we had become boyfriend and girlfriend and that I was staying at a hotel nearby. Her mom came up to me.
"Shawn, I've seen how happy you make my daughter. I don't even remember the last time I saw her this happy. Why don't you stay here, with us?" Y/m/n asked.
"Wait, really? Where would I even sleep?" I asked.
"I trust that you guys won't do anything, but I still want you guys to leave the door open. You guys can sleep in my bed since it's bigger and I'll sleep in Y/n's bed." She said.
"Really?" I asked. Her mom nodded.
"Yup." She said.
"Thank you so much." I said. That night I called my family and told them everything. They were very happy for me. That night when Y/n and I went to bed, she didn't lay down right away.
"Shawn?" She asked.
"Yes honey?" I asked.
"Um, there's a song that I fall asleep to on repeat every night. Is it okay if that plays during the night?" She asked.
"Of course, that's fine. What song is it?" I asked.
"Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright." She said as she started it.
"Okay. Want to cuddle or no?" I asked nervously. I would absolutely love to fall asleep holding her.
"We can cuddle." She said. I smiled and opened up my arms.
"Okay, come here baby." I said. The calming song began to play as she cuddled into my arms. I held her close to me and rested my forehead against hers.
"Good night Shawn." She said.
"Good night Y/n." I said.
The following March - spring break
I have a surprise for my girlfriend of almost three months, Y/n Y/l/n. She's going to be staying at my place in Toronto for spring break. I would've picked her up from the airport but her and I didn't want to draw too much attention to ourselves, so my best friend Brian picked her up. There was a knock at the door, and I opened it to see Y/n smiling at me.
"BABE!" I yelled as I picked her up. She laughed and wrapped her arms around my waist as my hands went underneath her bum to hold her securely.
"Hi honey." She said. I set her down and smiled at her. We brought in her luggage and thanked Brian for picking her up.
"Come here baby, I want a kiss from you." I said.
"Well then you'll get a kiss." She said. I put my lips on hers and got those same magical feelings as I did the first time that we kissed. We pulled away and smiled at each other. I so desperately wanted to tell her that I love her, but we hadn't said it to each other yet.
"I um, I learned how to play a song on the piano. Mind if I play it for you?" I asked. She smiled.
"I would love that. What song?" She asked. I held her hand. She sat down on the couch and I sat at the piano.
"Um, I actually learned it for you. It's Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright." I said. Tears formed in her eyes.
"You learned that for me?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. Why do you look like you're about to cry?" I asked. She stood up and gave me a hug. I hugged back of course.
"No one's ever done that for me. Thank you Shawn. Thank you so much." She said. I rubbed her back and smiled at her.
"You're welcome baby. Ready?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yup." She said as she sat back down on the couch. I put my fingers on the piano and began to play.
"I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah" I sang. I looked at Y/n and she was smiling at me.
"You're an amazing man Shawn Mendes." She said. I smiled.
"Well you're an amazing woman Y/n Y/l/n." I said. That week, we said I love you to each other for the first time and it was wonderful. I love Y/n so much and I'll learn any new song on the piano, or any instrument, for her.
