80. Matching Tattoos
A/n: I know that tomorrow isn't actually Shawn's birthday, but obviously this is set in the future. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Okay, without further ado, let's begin!
I've been married to the singer and songwriter, Shawn Mendes, for three months now and they've been the best three months of my life. Shawn knows me better than anyone, he knows how to calm even my biggest fears. My number one biggest fear is that someday he's going to stop loving me and leave me, but he always reassures me that he's never going to stop loving me. Once, when we were dating, Shawn mentioned getting matching tattoos, and I said no.
"Why not?" Shawn asked.
"Shawn, we don't even live together yet." I said.
"So? I want a matching tattoo with you babe. I love you." He said.
"I love you too, but Shawn... I just can't. It's the fear. You could end it with me someday and then we'll be stuck with those tattoos permanently." I said.
"Honey, I'm never going to break up with you, I promise." He said. I sighed and shook my head.
"I'm not ready for matching tattoos. Not yet at least. Please Shawn, just, be patient with me. Please." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Okay. I'm sorry." He said.
"It's okay." I said.
I finally felt ready to get matching tattoos with Shawn, or some type of tattoo that we can get together. But what if he doesn't want one with me anymore? I sighed and got out of bed and went downstairs. Shawn was at the stove making pancakes. Due to the fact that it was August, Shawn was shirtless, which made me very happy. Tomorrow is his birthday, and although I had already gotten him a present that I would give to him tomorrow, maybe we could get the tattoos tomorrow.
"Hey hot stuff." I said. Shawn looked at me and smiled.
"Hey gorgeous. How did you sleep?" Shawn asked as I walked over to him.
"Good. Woke up without my handsome husband though." I said. I stood behind him, rested my head on his bare back, and wrapped my arms around him.
"Well don't worry babe, you're with your husband now." He said. I smiled and placed a gentle kiss on his back.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too darling." He said. I suddenly became nervous.
"Shawn?" I asked as I moved so I was standing next to him.
"Yes my love?" He asked.
"Remember how, um, when we were dating, you wanted to get matching tattoos but I felt like I wasn't ready to get matching tattoos?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah." He said.
"What do you think of getting matching tattoos tomorrow? We could find a place nearby to do it and we could look on Pinterest for something that we both like. We could do it for your birthday. What do you think?" I asked. Shawn put the pancakes on two plates and then looked at me.
"Are you sure that you want one? Those things are permanent unless you have that surgery." He said.
"Well, you always say that we're going to be together forever and always. You still think that, right?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Of course I do baby girl. You're my wife and you're always going to be my wife, until the very end of time. I just want to make sure that you definitely want this." He said. I nodded.
"Yeah, I definitely want this. What about you? Do you still want matching tattoos with me?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yeah. How about we eat breakfast and then we'll figure out what we want to get and where we can go to get it. Does that sound good baby?" He asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. Can I get a kiss from my handsome and amazing husband?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.
"Of course you can honey." He said and then put his lips on mine. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. We eventually pulled away and smiled at each other. I put my hand to his cheek and rubbed it with my thumb.
"My husband." I whispered. His smile widened as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
"My wife." He whispered back. We then sat down and had breakfast. After breakfast, we cuddled on the couch. I went on Pinterest and looked at different tattoos for couples.
"Oh Shawn what about this one? It's Harry Potter themed!" I asked and said. Shawn smiled as he looked at it.
"I love it. So who would get which one?" He asked. I looked at the photo.
"Maybe I could get the part that says 'You'll stay with me?' and you could get the part that says 'Until the very end.' Does that sound okay to you?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"That sounds perfect and I love it. So we'll get it tomorrow, but what's a good tattoo place nearby? I always go to Livia Tsang for my tattoos and I know that she did the ones that you have." Shawn said. I nodded.
"I could ask Johnny where he got his tattoos." I said, mentioning my former neighbor. Shawn nodded.
"Okay. I feel like I'm betraying Livia." He said.
"No! It's fine, just tell her that I wanted to get this for you for your birthday." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Okay, but I want to pay for it." He said.
"Nope, this is for my husband's birthday, so I'll be paying for it." I said. Shawn sighed.
"Fine." He said and I laughed. I called Johnny and he told me where he got his tattoo and he told me about their prices. The next day, Shawn and I drove down to Rhode Island and walked in.
"Hi there, how can I help you guys today?" A guy asked.
"My husband and I would like to get this tattooed on our arms." I said as I showed him the picture.
"Sure, no problem, I can do that for you guys. My name is Dave by the way." He said and we shook his hand.
"I'm Y/n." I said.
"I'm Shawn." Shawn said.
"I see you guys already have a couple of tattoos. Have you guys come here in the past?" He asked. We shook our heads.
"No, my friend is a tattoo artist so she usually does it." Shawn said. Dave nodded.
"Okay, well, follow me. Who wants to go first?" Dave asked. Shawn and I pointed at each other and then laughed.
"This is for your birthday, so you go first." I said. Shawn laughed and smiled.
"Are you sure?" He asked. I nodded.
"I'm positive." I said. We then walked over to a chair.
"So what part of the quote are you getting?" Dave asked as he got Shawn ready.
"The part that says 'Until the very end.'" Shawn said and Dave nodded.
"So how long have you guys been married?" Dave asked.
"This month will be three months." Shawn said with a smile.
"That's wonderful. How long have you guys been together?" He asked. Shawn and I smiled at each other.
"In December it's going to be five years since I showed up at her front door and asked her to be my girlfriend, but this month will be five years since we met." Shawn said. I nodded. After a little bit, it was my turn.
"Um, can I tell you something?" I asked Dave. He was doing the tattoo on my arm and it really hurt. I knew that I needed to talk in order to get my mind off the pain.
"Me?" Dave asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said.
"Sure." He said.
"Okay, so, I'm sorry if this weirds you out, but I was really nervous about getting this tattoo because of the pain, but you look like my Uncle George so that makes me feel better." I said and Shawn bursted out laughing. Dave smiled.
"Well I'm glad that me looking like your uncle could help." He said. My face was red from embarrassment.
"Oh my gosh Shawn, stop laughing." I said.
"That was hilarious. Can we please tell Uncle George that you said that?" Shawn asked.
"To be honest, I don't know how Uncle George would feel about tattoos, but sure, we can tell him." I said.
"Oh come on babe, we know that he's your favorite niece. Even if he doesn't like tattoos, he could never get mad at you. Remember that time that he accidentally called you his granddaughter and then told your mom that you have a special place in his heart (A/n: no lie, this happened with my Uncle George and I LOVE my Uncle Georgie!)?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah, that's true. Shawn, can you please keep talking to me to get my mind off the pain please?" I asked as I looked at Shawn.
"Sure. What do you want me to talk about babe?" He asked.
"Anything." I said.
"Okay. Um, what can I talk about? Oh! I know! Okay, so let's talk about our wedding day, which is my favorite day ever. I remember that I was really nervous and then Aaliyah knocked on my door and she gave me the tie and the tie clip that you had picked out for me and I loved it. You had also given her a note to give to me, and you kind of hinted at having floral things on your wedding dress, which you did. I remember, when I had already walked down the aisle and I was waiting for you, I had to keep thinking about music or else I would've started to cry." Shawn said.
"Why were you going to cry?" I asked. Shawn looked at me as if the answer was obvious.
"Because I was about to marry the most gorgeous and most amazing human being ever who just so happens to be my best friend." He said. I blushed and smiled.
"You're the sweetest. But you did start to cry when you saw me walking down the aisle. Did I ever tell you that they did alterations to my dress before the wedding?" I asked.
"No, I didn't know that. What did they do to it?" He asked.
"Well part of it was see through, and I didn't want it to be see through so they fixed that, and they put the spaghetti straps on it." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Well you looked absolutely beautiful honey." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Thank you. You looked so handsome and I was so happy when Aaliyah told me that you loved the tie." I said.
"Well of course I loved it. Not just because of the way that it looked, but also because you were the one that picked it out for me." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Well your dad approved of it, he agreed that you would like it." I said.
"Yes, but you're the one that picked it out and bought it, and then you had the tie clip custom engraved with our wedding date on it. I swear babe, being married to you has been wonderful. Life with you in general is wonderful." Shawn said.
"Well you seem to make everything in life so much better. Remember the first time celebrating my birthday since we had started dating and that's when you told me that Livia was going to tattoo me?" I asked. Shawn nodded and smiled.
"Yup. You got the dragonfly on your wrist." Shawn said.
"Yup." I said.
"Okay lovebirds, you guys are all set." Dave said. I smiled and looked at the tattoo.
"Oh my gosh I love it. Thank you so much." I said.
"No problem. I'm glad that you love it. Actually, my niece is a big fan of yours Shawn, so I knew who you guys were the second you walked in. Mind if I take a picture with you guys to show to my niece, and if it's okay with you, we have an Instagram that we could post it to?" Dave asked. I looked at Shawn.
"I'm fine with it. What about you babe?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah that's fine." I said. Shawn and I took the picture with Dave. After the picture was taken, Dave told us how to take care of our tattoos and then I paid for the tattoos.
"I gave you guys a birthday discount." Dave said.
"Oh you didn't have to do that!" I said.
"Oh it's no problem." He said.
"Well thank you so much." I said.
"You're welcome." Dave said, and then Shawn and I left.
"Thank you for this babe. I really appreciate it." Shawn said as he drove away and began the almost hour long journey home.
"Anything for my hubby. I love you a lot baby." I said. Shawn smiled.
"I love you lots too babe." He said.
"I'm going to close my eyes." I said.
"Okay darling." Shawn said. I closed my eyes but couldn't fall asleep for some reason. I sighed.
"I can't fall asleep." I said as I opened my eyes.
"I'm sorry bubs. Is there anything that I can do?" Shawn asked.
"No. I'm just going to look at Instagram." I said as I pulled out my phone and opened the Instagram app.
"Okay darling." Shawn said. I went to the Instagram page for the tattoo shop that we had just been to.
"The tattoo shop already posted that photo of us." I said.
"What did they caption it?" Shawn asked.
"Had the pleasure of tattooing Grammy nominated singer Shawn Mendes, and his wife, Y/n Mendes. To get her mind off the pain of the tattoo, Shawn talked to Y/n about their wedding day. Awww young love." I read. Shawn chuckled.
"We're halfway to thirty!" Shawn said and I laughed as I liked the picture.
"Yeah, I know, but we're still young." I said. Shawn brought my hand to his lips and kissed it before playing with my wedding ring.
"Yeah. You're the best wife ever." He said. I smiled.
"Thanks honey. You're the best husband ever." I said. Shawn smiled at me for a moment before looking back at the road.
"Hey, we have your Harry Potter books at home, right?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment and then nodded.
"Yeah. They're in the living room on the bookshelf. Why?" I asked.
"We should find out what page this quote is on and then when we post a picture of our tattoo, one of us can write exactly what it says and what page it's on." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Okay. Um, do you think that it would be okay if I talked about The Fear in my post?" I asked. The Fear is what Shawn and I call my biggest fear - the one that someday he'll stop loving me and leave me.
"Are you sure?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. I mean, yes part of not wanting to get matching tattoos when you first asked was because we weren't even living together yet and we weren't married yed, but the other part of it was The Fear. I was worried that we would get the tattoos and then someday you would stop loving me and leave me. It only took close to five years, but you've calmed that fear Shawn, and I, um," I said as I became emotional. Shawn pulled over, put on his hazards, and put the car in park.
"What's up baby?" He asked as he began to wipe my tears away.
"I'm just so grateful that you were able to calm that fear. That's a fear that I've had for a long, long time, and you calmed it down. It's still there, but nowhere near as much. Thank you for that Shawn." I said. He smiled at me and gave me a kiss.
"Whenever you need me to calm any fears of yours, just come to me, okay?" He asked. I nodded.
"Okay. I love you. Sorry about the crying." I said as Shawn turned off his hazards, put the car in drive, and began to drive away.
"It's fine honey. I love you too." Shawn said. I googled the quote and found out that it was in the last Harry Potter book. I showed it to Shawn in the book when we got home.
"It's on page 700 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." I said. He nodded.
"Thanks babe." He said.
"You're welcome." I said. He posted a picture that we had taken of both of our arms together (A/n: picture is above!) and I smiled when I read the caption.
"'You'll stay with me?'
'Until the very end,' - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, page 700. Thank you to my amazing wife for getting a matching tattoo with me on my birthday. I love you endlessly darling. Xx - your husband." Shawn wrote. I liked the photo and then posted a photo that I had taken of Shawn when he was getting the tattoo, and then the same photo that he posted.
"Happy birthday to my sweet and amazing husband! You're the most amazing man in the world, and I'm the luckiest woman in the world to be your wife. You're always there for me no matter what, and you can always calm my fears, no matter how big or small. You and I call my biggest fear The Fear. My biggest fear is that you're going to stop loving me and leave me, but you always assure me that that will never happen. I know that we talked about this in the car, but part of the reason why I said no when you first mentioned getting matching tattoos was because we weren't even living together yet and we weren't engaged yet. The other part - the part that I didn't tell you at that time, was The Fear. It took you a little less than five years, but you finally calmed that fear down, so I figured that we should get matching tats. I love you so much babe. Happy birthday! Twenty six has never looked so good!" I wrote.
"I love it babe." Shawn said. I smiled and we cuddled for the rest of the day. I love Shawn, and our matching tattoos, so much.
