47. Stood Up
A/n: Explicit language in this one! Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Okay, without further ado, let's begin, shall we?
I was sitting on the couch with my husband of eleven months, the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes, with my head on his chest. He rubbed my arm soothingly and I closed my eyes at his relaxing touch. I then looked up at him. He seemed to be entranced by the movie that we were watching, so he kept looking at the screen, but I couldn't stop looking at him. How is he all mine? I'm the luckiest girl in the world.
"I can feel your eyes on me babe." Shawn said with a smirk as he looked down at me. I blushed.
"Well I can't help it! My husband is just so handsome! Gosh, how are you all mine? I'm the luckiest girl in the world." I said. Shawn smiled.
"Well my wife is so gorgeous and I'm the luckiest guy in the world." Shawn said.
"Kiss me baby." I said. He put his lips on mine. As we kissed, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. We soon had to pull away from each other so we could catch our breaths.
"I fucking love you babe." Shawn said. I giggled.
"I fucking love you too honey." I said. Shawn gave me another quick kiss.
"How about we go on date night this weekend?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Okay. Where would we go? Like, do I need to dress up?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment.
"How about Mario's Restaurant in Boston on Saturday at six?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Okay. Do I need to get dressed up?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment before answering.
"Maybe just a little bit, but not a lot." He said. I nodded.
"Okay." I said
"I'll have to meet you there. I'm supposed to hang out with the band on Saturday but I'll tell them that I have to leave early so I can have date night with my amazing wife." Shawn said. I smiled at him and gave him another kiss.
"Well I can't wait for date night with my amazing husband. Can you believe that next month will mark one year since we got married?" I asked. His smile widened, causing my heart to flutter. He pushed some of my hair back.
"It feels like just yesterday I was crying while watching you walk down the aisle." Shawn said. I nodded.
Soon, it was time for date night. I dressed up in a blue jumpsuit (A/n: pictured above!) and put on a minimal amount of makeup. I put on eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow. I then straightened my hair a bit so it would look longer, and let it flow down. Shawn was out with his friends, but he told me that he would meet me at the restaurant. I got in the car, put the directions into the gps on my phone, and began the drive into Boston.
As I drove, I thought about how important Boston is to mine and Shawn's love story. We met in Boston on August 16th, 2019. We had our first kiss the next day - also in Boston. Shawn proposed to me in Boston, and our wedding was held at the State Room in Boston. Shawn and I have gone on tons of dates in Boston because the city is so important to us. I pulled up to the restaurant and didn't see Shawn's car. Maybe he's just not here yet? Oh well. I went inside.
"Hi, just one?" The person asked.
"Actually, another person is going to be coming." I said. She nodded and grabbed two menus.
"Right this way please." She said.
"Okay." I said and followed her to a table that was towards the back.
"A server will be right with you." She said.
"Thank you." I said.
"You're welcome." She said, and then walked away. I looked at the menu. I would definitely get a water and some lasagna, but I wanted to wait until Shawn got here before I ordered the food. I didn't know what he was going to want to drink. We've come to this restaurant before, and he always changes his drink order each time. A server soon came up to the table.
"Hi, what can I get you today?" She asked.
"Just a water please." I said. She nodded.
"Okay. And do you know what the other person is going to want to drink?" She asked. I shook my head.
"No, we've been here before and he changes his drink order every time. Sorry." I said.
"That's fine." She said and then walked away. She soon came back with a water.
"Thank you." I said. I looked around the restaurant. Where was he? I pulled out my phone and texted him.
Me: Hey, I'm at the restaurant. Where are you?
Five minutes went by without a response, and then five more. I texted Mike, Shawn's drummer.
Me: Hey are you with Shawn?
As I waited for a response, my server came up to me.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but is the other half of your party coming? We have people waiting for a table." She asked and said. I looked at the door of the restaurant, sighed, and then looked back at the waitress.
"I guess that he's not. I'm sorry, I'll just get going." I said. I got my purse and left twenty dollars on the table as an apology. I went in the bathroom before I left. Did my own husband just stand me up on a date? I looked at my phone. I had a text from Mike.
Mike: Yeah, he's with me. Why?
Me: Please tell him to not bother me when he gets home. Him and I were supposed to have date night tonight, it was his idea, and he completely forgot. I just looked like a fool, sitting at the table all by myself while waiting for him. My own husband stood me up.
I sighed, and then left the restaurant. As I headed to the car, which I had to park a little bit far away because of parking spaces, I saw a few girls that were walking around. One of them spotted me.
"Oh my gosh, that's Y/n Mendes!" She said. I internally groaned. I just wanted to go home and relax. Another one of the girl's came up to me.
"Hi Y/n, could we get a picture with you please?" She asked. By now, the girls were standing in a certain way that I couldn't really get around them.
"I'm sorry guys, but I've had a bad day and I would just like to get home. Please let me pass by so I can get to my car." I said.
"But it's just one picture." One of the girls said.
"I understand that, but like I said, I've had a bad day and I would like to go home. Please let me pass by." I said. My phone then rang. I looked at it and saw that it was Shawn. I declined the call.
"Did you just decline Shawn's call?" One of the girls asked. I sighed. I felt tears well up.
"Please just let me pass by." I said. One of the girls began to take pictures of me. I then looked at the road, and stepped onto the road and then back on the sidewalk and went around them that way.
"Wow, she's such a bitch." The girl said. I stopped and turned around.
"I am not a bitch. I told you guys repeatedly that I've had a bad day and I repeatedly asked you guys to let me by, but you wouldn't listen." I said. I then turned back around and started to head to the car.
"She's such a bitch. That was so rude of her. All we wanted was a picture." I heard one of the girls say. I finally got in my car and started it. My phone kept ringing, so I silenced it. I began to cry as I drove home. I felt humiliated. My own husband forgot about our date night even though it was his idea in the first place, and then those girls were bothering me. My vision became blurry, so I pulled over to the side of the highway, put my hazards on, put my head on the steering wheel, and cried. I jumped when I heard a knock at the window. It was a cop. I rolled down the window.
"Are you alright ma'am?" He asked. I sighed and shook my head.
"No. I apologize if this is a bad place to pull over, but my vision got blurry from crying and I knew that it wasn't safe to drive like that so I pulled over." I explained. He nodded.
"It's fine. You did the right thing by pulling over. Your phone is ringing." He said. I looked at it. It was Shawn. I looked at the cop.
"It's fine, it's just my husband who scheduled date night for tonight, and then forgot about it. Then, I went to leave the restaurant, and my husband is a famous singer and some of his fans spotted me. They wanted a picture and I tried to say no because I said that I had a bad day, but they blocked my way and when I finally got around them, they called me a bitch." I said as I cried.
"I'm sorry ma'am. Is there anything that I can do to help you?" He asked. I thought for a moment and shook my head as I carefully wiped my tears away. My tears were slowing down.
"No, but thank you. I'm just going to head home and try to forget about today even though I was really excited for date night." I said. I looked and saw that someone was driving past me and taking pictures. I sighed. "Crap. That person that just drove by was taking pictures."
"Well I'm sorry that you had a rough night. Take care, I hope you feel better." The cop said.
"Thank you." I said. He walked away and then I drove home. Shawn was sitting outside on the front steps. He was tugging at his curls. I parked the car, grabbed my phone and purse, and got out of the car. Shawn looked up at me and stood up.
"Baby I am so -" He started.
"Save it. I'm going inside." I said as I walked past him and went inside our house.
"Honey can we please talk about this?" Shawn asked. I took off my heels and stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked at him.
"Not right now Shawn. Please just leave me alone for the rest of the night." I said. I then turned around and began to head upstairs. I heard his footsteps follow me. Ugh.
"I completely understand if you don't want to cuddle in bed tonight and if you want to face away from me when we go to sleep." He said. I went into our closet and grabbed a pillow and a blanket and handed it to him.
"Here, you can sleep on the couch. Thanks for making me feel humiliated. Just leave me the fuck alone Shawn." I said.
"Baby I'm sorry." He said.
"Shawn, please just leave me alone." I said.
"What happened to us not going to bed upset with each other?" He asked. I sighed and looked at him.
"Sometimes things change I guess." I said. I didn't just mean the fact that we had once agreed to never go to bed angry or upset with each other. I meant the fact that he had planned this dinner for us and then stood me up. Shawn looked sad and I couldn't stand it, so I looked away.
"Do you need helping getting the jumpsuit off?" He asked. I looked at my outfit. I probably did need help from him, but I didn't want it. But I needed it. I looked at him and nodded.
"Yes please." I said. He nodded, put the blanket and pillow that I had give him on the bed and then unzipped the outfit.
"You look beautiful." He said.
"Thank you." I said as my outfit fell to the ground.
"Maybe you can wear it again tomorrow for date night?" He asked as I walked towards my dresser so I could get pajamas.
"What, so you can stand me up then too?" I asked. I heard him sigh and I didn't have to look at him to know that he was running his fingers through his hair.
"Baby, I'm sorry. I forgot that we were supposed to have date night." He said as I got changed into pajamas. I looked at him with tears in my eyes.
"Just leave me alone Shawn. Please." I said. He nodded, grabbed the pillow and blanket, and left the room and went downstairs. I went in the bathroom and took my makeup off as I cried. I then got into bed. Just like it does when he's on tour, the bed felt cold and empty without Shawn. I tried to fall asleep, but it was to no avail. I finally decided to go downstairs and at least get something to drink. I went down the stairs and peaked into the living room. Shawn wasn't there, but the pillow and blanket were.
I was about to walk into the kitchen when I saw him. He was outside, leaning against the railing of our deck. I watched as he took a swig of something. Maybe a beer. I went to the refrigerator, grabbed a drink, and then started to head back upstairs, but I stopped and looked at Shawn again. He ran his fingers through his hair, and I watched as he left his beer on the railing, and headed down the stairs and into the backyard. I stepped out onto the back deck. He hadn't noticed me or heard me come out.
"Fuck. I'm going to fucking lose her." I heard him say. He then stopped walking, put his head in his hands, and I watched as his shoulders began to shake. He was crying. I went down the steps and quickly reached him. I put my hand on his back and he jumped.
"Shhh, it's just me." I said. He turned around and looked at me.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to forget. I lost track of time and then Mike was reading your text to me, and then you weren't answering my phone calls. I'm so sorry baby. Just please don't leave me honey, I can't live without you." Shawn said. I pulled him in for a hug.
"Shhh baby, I'm right here. Everything's okay. I'm not going to leave you honey, I promise. Let's go inside and talk, okay handsome?" I asked as I pulled away from the hug a bit. He nodded.
"Okay." He said. I interlaced his fingers with mine, and as our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. We went inside - after Shawn quickly grabbed his beer - and sat down on the couch.
"Shawn, let me explain to you everything that happened." I said. I then told him about being alone at dinner, the girls outside the restaurant, the cop, and the person that took pictures of me on the side of the road as the cop talked to me. Once I was done talking, I was crying, and Shawn pulled me in for a hug.
"Oh honey. Oh my sweet, precious girl, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry honey." Shawn said.
"It's okay. I just... I don't know. I felt humiliated sitting there waiting for my husband who never showed up and then everything else happened." I said. Shawn kissed the top of my head.
"What can I do baby girl?" Shawn asked, before I could answer, his phone rang. It was Andrew. "I'll call him later."
"No it's okay. Answer it baby." I said, and Shawn did.
"Hey man, what's up?" Shawn asked. Then there was a pause and Shawn sighed. "I forgot about date night and we're making up right now. People are seriously saying that because the fans watched her decline my call that there's trouble in paradise for us? Okay, I'll take care of it. Bye." Shawn said, and then hung up.
"I'm sorry that I declined your calls or just didn't answer them." I said.
"It's okay baby. You were upset, and you had every right to be upset." Shawn said. I nodded.
"So people are saying that there's trouble in paradise?" I asked. Shawn nodded and checked Instagram. Sure enough, he was tagged in stuff that had to do with me declining his call, and there was the picture of me crying as I talked to the cop.
"Should I do a live stream or post a picture to clear things up?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment.
"Um, how about a picture?" I asked. He nodded.
"Okay, come here baby, let's take a selfie." He said as he opened his arms up. We took a picture of the both of us smiling at the camera, one of me kissing his cheek, and one of him kissing the top of my head as I closed my eyes and smiled. Shawn showed me the pictures afterward.
"I love them! They're so cute." I said.
"They are. Mind of I post them?" Shawn asked.
"That's fine baby." I said. I moved so my feet were in his lap. My phone lit up after a little bit. Shawn had posted. I liked the photos and then read the caption.
"Some people are saying that there's trouble in paradise for my wife and I. I can assure that that's not true at all. Let me explain what happened: I had said that we should date night, and I had it all planned. I was hanging out with the band and lost track of time. Y/n texted Mike and Mike told me that she was upset. It was then that I realized that I had missed date night. I tried calling Y/n, but she declined or ignored my calls, and she had every right to. When she stepped out of the restaurant that I was supposed to meet her at, there were some fans there. They wanted a picture, but Y/n said that she had had a bad day and just wanted to go home. The fans were blocking her way so she asked them to let her by. They wouldn't. Y/n eventually stepped off of the sidewalk, onto the road, and went around them. This resulted in those 'fans' calling my wife a bitch. If I ever hear a so called fan say anything like that to or about my wife, I'll go off on them. Y/n had said three times that she had a bad day, wanted to go home, and asked them to please move so she could get by and they wouldn't. Y/n then tried to drive home. The fact that I had accidently stood her up, leaving her to sit in a restaurant waiting for me, left her feeling humiliated. She began to cry, and pulled over. A nice cop pulled up behind her and asked her if she was okay. She eventually got back on the road and headed home. Yes, she was upset with me when she got home, but we're better now. Please stop saying that there's trouble in paradise. My wife and I have made up and we're very happy and very in love." Shawn wrote.
"Perfect caption honey. Do you want to come to bed with me now?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.
"Yeah." He said. I held his hand as we went upstairs and into our bedroom. Shawn pulled me nice and close to him and kept his arms wrapped around me securely.
"I love you." I said. Shawn rubbed my back and kissed the top of my head again.
"I love you too baby. So much. How about tomorrow you let me show you how much I love you, and then we'll go on a date?" Shawn asked. I smiled.
"I would love that." I said.
"Good, because I really want to make love to my wife as much as I can." Shawn said. I kissed his jaw.
"Don't worry baby, we'll make love until we can't possibly make love anymore." I said.
"That sounds fucking amazing." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Yup. Good night handsome." I said.
"Good night gorgeous." He said, and with that, we fell asleep. The next day we made beautiful, passionate, and intense love for hours before date night. I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have such a great guy as my husband.
