46. His First Q & A After The Break

Shawn's point of view

"I miss you guys." I said to my wife of almost eight years, Y/n Mendes, over the phone.

"I know baby, and we miss you too. What are you up to right now?" She asked.

"I'm just waiting for my question and answer session to start. Babe, this will be my first q and a since... well, the last time I did a q and a, you were engaged." I said with a chuckle. Y/n laughed, causing my heart to flutter.

"I know." She said. We talked for a little bit longer before there was a knock at my door.

"Come in!" I said. Jake Stras, my security guard, poked his head in.

"Sorry to interrupt, but your q and a is about to start." Jake said. I nodded and thanked him. I then talked to Y/n again.

"I'm really sorry honey, but my q and a is about to start, so I have to go." I said, not wanting to hang up. I had taken a break from music for about eight years, that way, I could focus on life with my wife, and our three kids. Our oldest is Rose Lucille Mendes, she's seven. Our second child is Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes, he's five and we call him Jake. Our youngest is Julia Kennedy Mendes, and she's three.

"It's okay baby boy. Text me when you're done or whenever you get a chance. I love you." She said. I smiled.

"Okay. I love you too darling. Tell the kids that I love them and miss them please." I said.

"I will. I'll talk to you later honey." She said.

"Okay, talk to you later." I said, and then we hung up. I stepped outside of my dressing room.

"Ready?" Jake asked and I nodded. I soon went into my q and a. The fans were screaming. I put my finger to my lips to get them to quiet down.

"So, same rules as I've always had: if someone is asking a question, please don't talk while they're asking a question. Also, if a question needs to be repeated, I'll repeat it. Before we start, I just want to point out that the last time I did a q and a, I was engaged to Y/n Y/l/n, and now she's Y/n Mendes and we've been married for almost eight years, and we have three beautiful kids together." I said with a smile. The fans cheered and I chuckled. "Okay, let's get started with some questions." I said and then picked someone.

"How are your kids doing?" She asked. I smiled.

"They're good. I just got off the phone with their beautiful Momma and she said that they're napping. They had a hard time when I left, and it just about killed me. They were crying and saying 'Daddy don't leave.' so that was hard." I said. I then chose someone else.

"Do your kids fully understand what you do for a living?" She asked.

"Y/n and I were actually talking about this before I left for tour. They know that their Daddy is a famous singer that travels the world for work, but I don't think that they fully understand. I think, and my wife agreed with me, when they get older, they'll understand things more." I said before choosing someone else.

"How come we never see pictures of you or Y/n with the kids in Los Angeles or any pictures of them from the paparazzi?" The person asked.

"Well we live in the suburbs of Massachusetts. Y/n and I have always known, ever since we first started to talk about our future together when we were dating, that we don't want them growing up in the glare of the spotlight, we don't every single move that they make to be on camera. We like living in the suburbs because it gives us the privacy that we want and that we need." I explained. The person nodded and then I chose someone else.

"How in love are you with your wife?" She asked. I smiled really wide as I thought about the amazing woman that I'm married to.

"Beyond in love. Like, more than words will ever be able to express. It was crazy because we were dating, and I was already so in love with her then, and then we got engaged, and I fell for her even more, which I didn't even know was possible, then when we got married I fell for her even more. I remember, after we got married, thinking that there was no way that I could possibly love her anymore than I already did at that moment, but then she was pregnant and she did an excellent job of carrying our babies and when they were born, she was instantly an amazing mother, so that was amazing to watch and so I fell even harder for her when I saw how amazing she is with our children." I said. I chose someone else.

"Did you cry when your kids were born?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. I especially cried when Rose was born because she's mine and Y/n's first born, and I'll never forget Y/n was still in the hospital bed and she asked me if I wanted to hold Rose, and I got worried that I would drop her, but Y/n reassured me that I wouldn't, and when I held her for the first time I talked to her a little bit and I was crying happy tears. At one point, Y/n looked at me and goes 'Want to sit with your wife and your daughter?' and I nodded and cried some more and sat with them. I remember, after she said that, thinking I have a daughter. It was just such a wonderful feeling." I said. I called on someone else.

"Who do you think your kids look like more, you, or Y/n?" The person asked.

"Rose is basically my wife. I'm serious. She has my nose, but when she was born, she looked so much like Y/n, that when my mother in law held her for the first time, she was like 'Oh my gosh I feel like I'm holding Y/n again.' so that was pretty funny. Jake looks just like me, and Julia looks like a mix of both Y/n and I. She has my hair, but Y/n's eyes. Also, Rose's personality is a lot like my wife's, so I call her mini-Y/n." I said before choosing someone else.

"I remember that when you posted about Jake's arrival, you talked about Y/n having to have an emergency c-section, and I was just wondering, how scared were you when that happened?" She asked. I sighed.

"I was extremely scared. The doctor had said that his heart rate had dropped and that we needed to do an emergency c-section. I'll never forget her saying 'This isn't optional by the way. We need to do an emergency c-section.' and I don't think that I've ever been so scared in my life. But the thing is, I had to be strong for my wife. I knew that if I showed just how scared I was, that would only elevate how scared Y/n was, and she was already extremely scared. During the c-section she was holding my hand and she asked me to tell her a story or something, just anything to get her mind off of what was going on, so I told her our love story and she liked that." I said. I then chose someone else.

"What's the best gift that your wife has ever given you?" He asked. I smiled and answered without any hesitation at all. I knew the answer right away.

"Fatherhood. She gave me the gift of being a father to three beautiful and wonderful children and I will forever be beyond grateful for that." I said. Soon, the q and a came to an end, and I went back to my dressing room and called Y/n.

"Hey handsome." She said.

"Hey gorgeous. Guess what." I said.

"What?" She asked.

"Basically all of my questions in my q and a had to do with you and the kids." I said with a smile.

"Really?" Y/n asked.

"Yup. I love talking about you guys. Someone asked me what the best gift that you ever gave me was, and I didn't even have to think about the answer because I knew it instantly. The best gift that you ever gave me was the gift of being a father." I said.

"Oh honey." She said.

"Well it's true! You carried our babies in your belly for nine months each time and then you spent many hours in labor with them, and for Jake you had to endure being scared because of what was going on. You're an amazing woman, wife, and mother, Y/n Mendes." I said.

"Thank you baby. You're an amazing man, husband, and father Shawn Mendes, and don't forget that you helped me make our babies!" She said with a laugh and I laughed too.

"That's true. We had a lot of fun making them, didn't we Mrs. Mendes?" I asked with a smirk.

"I don't even have to see your divinely handsome face to know that you're smirking right now, but yes, we did have a lot of fun making them." She said and I laughed.

"I love you darling." I said.

"I love you too baby." She said.

"How are the kids?" I asked.

"They just got up a little bit ago, and now they're just playing with their toys and each other - Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes! Why did you do that?" Y/n asked our son.

"What did he do?" I asked.

"He just threw one of his toys at Rose." She said. My eyes widened.

"Can I talk to him please?" I asked.

"Yeah, here he is." She said.

"Hi Daddy." Jake said.

"Hi Jake. Why did you throw one of your toys at your sister?" I asked.

"I thought that it would make her laugh." He said.

"Jake, when people get hit by something, it doesn't make them laugh. How did Rosie react after you threw a toy at her?" I asked.

"She's crying." He said.

"See? She's not laughing buddy. Please don't throw anything at anyone, I don't want people getting hurt. Is Rose still crying?" I asked.

"Yeah, Mommy's trying to comfort her." He said. I went to say something but then heard my wife's voice.

"Shawn can you talk to her please? She won't stop crying." Y/n asked and said.

"Yeah of course." I said. I then heard my eldest daughter.

"Daddy my head h-hurts a little." She said as she cried. My heart broke. I wanted to be home so I could wipe her tears away, but I was far from home, so I couldn't.

"I know honey, but it'll feel better soon. Jake wanted to make you laugh, that's why he threw that at you, but I told him not to throw things, okay?" I asked.

"Okay-y. When are you coming home Daddy?" She asked as she cried.

"I won't be home for another couple of months sweet pea. Just hang in there, time will fly by, I promise." I said.

"I miss you Daddy." She said as she cried harder. I rubbed my face with the hand that has my wedding ring on it.

"I know honey, and I miss you too. But like I said pumpkin, time will fly by and I'll be home before you know it. I love you." I said.

"I love you too Daddy." Rose said as she seemed to calm down. I then heard my wife's wonderful voice.

"Thank you for that Shawny baby. She's calming down." Y/n said.

"Okay, good. I love you my queen." I said.

"I love you too, my king." She said and I smiled.

"I'll talk to you guys later." I said.

"Okay, bye honey." She said.

"Bye babe." I said and we hung up. I love my family so much, and I'm so glad that I was asked so many questions about them during my first q and a back from my music hiatus.
