42. Honeymoon
A/n: Explicit language in this one! I did a lot of research for this one, so please, if you comment, let them be nice comments! I apologize for not going into detail about Australia, but I had already done SO MUCH research and it literally took me about SIX HOURS (!!!) to write this imagine. The place in the picture above is Lough Eske Castle in Ireland! Also, I personalized the trip to Lithuania a bit, but like I've said for other things in past imagines, I needed examples. Plus, if I were to ever go to Lithuania, the things that I mentioned are what I would want to do and places I would want to go. Anyways, I hope that you guys enjoy this imagine! Okay, without further ado, let's begin!
The planning
I'm engaged to the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes. He recently finished his world tour, so now it's time to plan our wedding and honeymoon. We've already set a date for our wedding (May 25, 2024), and I already have my wedding dress, veil, and accessories picked out. I was sitting at the kitchen table with Shawn, we both had our laptops open, and were looking up things for the wedding.
"So babe, for our honeymoon, I think that we should go from our wedding reception, come back home, and the next day we can fly to Hawaii. We'll spend a week in Hawaii, and then we'll head to Ireland and spend a week there. After Ireland we'll head to Lithuania and spend a week there, and then our last stop will be Australia. We'll spend a week there, and then come home. Does that sound good?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded.
"That sounds perfect babe. Do you think that when we go to Lithuania, we could go to Švenčionys?" I asked. Švenčionys, Lithuania is where my great-grandmother and the rest of her side of the family is from. Shawn nodded.
"Of course baby. Wouldn't it be cool if we were able to find where your great-grandmother lived while she was there?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah, but they left Lithuania and came to America in the early nineteen hundreds. I highly doubt that, if we were able to find where she lived, that it would be the same." I said. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah, that's true. I love you baby, and I can't wait to marry you." Shawn said. I smiled.
"I love you too and I can't wait to marry you either." I said. We then kept doing research. Me, for the wedding, and Shawn, for the honeymoon. The next morning, when I woke up, Shawn was already smiling at me. He gently pulled me closer to him as I smiled back at him.
"Good morning gorgeous." He said.
"Good morning handsome. Give me a kiss baby." I said.
"With pleasure honey." Shawn said with a smile. Him and I have never cared about morning breath. We just want each other's kisses. He put his lips on mine. As our lips moved in perfect synchronization, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks, and I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon. Shawn and I soon pulled away.
"Are you hungry baby?" I asked. Shawn nodded and we went downstairs to make breakfast.
"I'm probably going to be in my office today. I have to do something, and I can't tell you what it is yet because it's a surprise for you." Shawn said as he made some pancakes and I sat on the counter. I groaned.
"But you know that I don't like surprises." I complained. Shawn chuckled.
"But didn't you like it when I surprised you by showing up on your front door step and asking you to be my girlfriend?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Okay, yes, I did like that surprise." I admitted.
"And didn't you like it when I surprised you by proposing to you?" Shawn asked.
"Okay, fine, you win. I like your surprises." I said. Shawn smiled as he put our pancakes on plates.
"There we go!" He said. I laughed. He then picked me up and set me down so my feet were on the floor.
"Do you want some tea baby?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yes please." He said. He brought the plates over to the table and I made him some tea and then made myself some coffee. I then brought them over to the table.
"There you go my love." I said as I placed Shawn's tea in front of him. He smiled at me.
"Thank you babe." He said. I smiled at him and then kissed the top of his head since he was sitting and I was standing.
"Anything for my soon to be husband." I said. I then sat down and we had a nice breakfast.
"I'm going to be in my office honey. How about you just watch television or read or something?" Shawn asked as we finished breakfast. I nodded.
"Okay. So I take it that I'm not allowed into your office while you're doing whatever you're doing?" I asked. Shawn chuckled as he finished his tea.
"Pretty much." Shawn said. I giggled and shook my head. Shawn is so amazing.
Shawn's point of view
As Y/n sat downstairs reading a book, I stayed upstairs in my office. I know what Y/n likes and doesn't like - she's about to be my wife, so I probably should know those things - so I decided to surprise her by finding the places that we can stay for our honeymoon. First, I looked up places in Hawaii to stay, and I found the perfect place and booked it for a week. I then did the same thing for our week in Ireland, our week in Lithuania, and then our week in Australia. I then pulled out my phone and texted her.
Me: Want to know what your surprise is baby girl?
My girl: Yes!
Me: Come upstairs and you'll find out!
I then heard footsteps come running up the stairs. I chucked at her enthusiasm. Then there was a knock at the door.
"Come on in babe!" I said. She came in and smiled at me. I had the tabs minimized so she couldn't see the stuff yet. I patted my lap so she would sit on my lap.
"So what's my surprise baby? Oh my gosh I'm so excited!" She asked and said. I laughed. I wanted to say something before I showed her where we would be staying.
"Well, my love, you're about to be my wife. Therefore, I know your likes and your dislikes. I did some research, and I hope that you don't mind, but I already went ahead and booked each of our honeymoon spots." I said. Her eyes widened.
"Really?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yup. Ready to see where we'll be staying in Hawaii?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yes!" She said with a smile. I opened up the tabs and watched as her smile widened.
"It's the Kahala Beach Suite. It's right on the beach, and look honey, look at all of the suite facilities." I said as I scrolled down and showed her the twenty eight suite facilities that they have. Her eyes widened.
"Oh my gosh. Are there pictures?" She asked.
"Even better, there's a video tour of the room." I said before pressing play on the video as I held her on my lap. She kept saying "oh my gosh" and "that's so pretty!" as she watched the video that was only about a minute long. I looked at her and she was smiling.
"I love it Shawn!" She said. I rubbed her legs.
"Also, there's a spa there." I said. Her eyes widened.
"Really?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yup. Want to see where we'll be staying in Ireland?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yes!" She said. I opened up the tab and her eyes widened.
"My love, we'll be staying at the Lough Eske Castle." I said. Her hand went to her mouth and tears formed in her eyes. She looked at me and put her hand on my cheek.
"I love you. You're an amazing man for doing all of this." She said. I gave her a quick kiss.
"I would do anything for you. I love you too babe." I said. I showed her some of the pictures of the castle and she loved it.
"Oh I love it so much honey." She said. I smiled.
"Do you want to see where we'll be staying for Lithuania?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yes, definitely!" She said. I opened the link.
"We're going to be staying at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Vilnius in Vilnius, Lithuania in the executive suite with a balcony." I said. She smiled.
"Oh I'm so excited! I can't wait." She said.
"Do you want to see where we'll be staying when we're in Australia?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yes! Wait, what part of Australia will we be in? Like, what city?" She asked.
"Melbourne." I said.
"I'm so happy right now oh my gosh." She said. I smiled and then opened up the tab.
"We're staying at the Crown Towers in the Executive Club Suite. The website even shows a floor plan." I said as I clicked on it.
"Oh Shawn this is wonderful. Thank you so much for this honey." She said as she looked at me.
"You're welcome honey. I can't wait." I said. She kissed me with those sweet and beautiful lips of hers. On May 25th, 2024, Y/n Y/l/n became Y/n Mendes. We went home, and because we felt that it would be more comfortable and better to do it there, I took my newly wedded wife's virginity in our own bed. On May 26th, we headed to our first stop on our honeymoon: Hawaii.
Hawaii
Your point of view
I felt jet lagged from the eleven hour flight that my newly wedded husband, Shawn Mendes and I just experienced. We got to our hotel suite. Shawn picked me, and just like he did when we got home from our wedding reception, he carried me bridal style over the threshold and into our suite.
"Welcome to our first stop Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said as he set me down.
"I'm so happy honey." I said as I turned to face him. He smiled at me.
"Me too babe. Let's explore the suite." Shawn said. I nodded and was amazed to see how big it was.
"We literally have our own living room space and dining room. I love it Shawn." I said as I sat down on the couch.
"I love it too. Want to go to bed and sleep off this jet lag?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah." I said. We went into the bedroom and slept for a while. When we woke up, we both felt refreshed.
"Mrs. Mendes?" Shawn asked with a grin. I smiled at him and my heart fluttered at my new name.
"Yes Mr. Mendes?" I asked.
"Would you like to make love?" He asked. I nodded. We made love for the second time, and it was just as wonderful and beautiful as the first time. Afterwards, we cuddled up to each other in bed.
"Hey hubby?" I asked as I looked up at Shawn and he looked at me. My head was resting on his bare chest. He brushed some stray hair out of my face and I smiled at his touch.
"Yes wifey?" He asked.
"Should we go sit on our balcony?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. We should probably put some clothes on first, though." Shawn said. I nodded and laughed.
"Yeah, that's a good idea." I said. Shawn put on his Calvin Klein's and some shorts. I put on a comfortable sports bra, underwear, a tank top, and some shorts. Shawn smiled at me and reached his hand out for mine. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. Shawn sat down first and then pulled me into his lap.
"I love you darling." Shawn said before kissing my shoulder. I smiled.
"I love you too baby. Um, is it okay if I play with your wedding band?" I asked.
"Of course it is honey. You never have to ask. You put that on me babe. Play with it as much and whenever you want." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Okay. I'm really happy. I feel like I've fallen in love with you even more than before we were engaged. I didn't even know that that was possible!" I said as I began to play with his wedding band. He used his free hand to rub my sides.
"I feel the same way darling. This is really nice, isn't it?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. You're my best friend Shawn." I said as I stopped playing with his ring, and moved myself so I was straddling his lap and facing him. A sweet smile that gave me butterflies adorned his gorgeously handsome face.
"You're my best friend too Y/n." He said. I interlaced both of our hands together, but then let go of his hands so I could cup his face in my hands. His skin was soft, and the caramel eyes of his that I've always been in love with were soft and loving as well.
"But Shawn, you helped me plan our wedding, and it ended up being the most magical day ever. You booked everything for our honeymoon, and everything is so perfect. You know me better than anyone else, you even know me better than I know myself. You're my everything." I said. Shawn puckered up his lips and we kissed. We soon had to pull away to catch our breaths.
"You're my everything too." Shawn said. I kissed his lips once more and then turned back around so my back was against his chest but then spotted a hammock and stood up.
"Look! There's a hammock! Let's go lay in it!" I said. Shawn laughed at how enthused I was and then we went over to the hammock. Shawn got in first and I got in next to him. Our feet tangled together and Shawn wrapped his arm around me.
"Mind if I take picture of my wedding band next to your wedding ring honey?" Shawn asked before kissing the side of my head.
"That's fine honey." I said. He took the picture.
"Mind if I post it on Instagram?" Shawn asked.
"Not at all baby. That's fine." I said. I closed my eyes and let the warmth of the sun hit my face.
"I posted the picture baby." Shawn said.
"Oh! Let me check!" I said as I opened my eyes. My phone had been resting on my stomach. I checked Shawn's post and double tapped it to like the post. I read his caption.
"Hammock cuddles with my newly wedded wife. I swear that I keep falling for this beautiful and amazing woman more and more every single day." Shawn captioned it. I smiled, locked my phone, and turned more towards him. He was smiling at me.
"I'm so fucking in love with you." I said. Shawn kissed me and then we cuddled on the hammock for a bit longer. Later on, we went inside to our suite and made love again. The next day, we did a Historical Honolulu Bike Tour and it was amazing. We had slept through our first day here because of the jet lag, relaxed our second day, and did the bike tour on our third day. Shawn knows how much I love history, so for the fourth day he booked us a half day tour of Pearl Harbor. We then went back to our suite.
"Hey babe?" Shawn asked.
"Yes Hun?" I asked.
"It's still pretty nice out and we're right on the beach. Do you want to walk along the water with me?" Shawn asked. I smiled and nodded.
"I would love that." I said. He stuck his hand out for me to take as he smiled and we headed to the beach. We walked along in a comfortable silence for a few moments.
"We're married." Shawn said. I looked at him.
"Yes we are honey. You make me happier than I've ever been in my whole entire life." I said. Shawn smiled at me and then let go of my hand so he could wrap his arm around my shoulders and pull me close to him. I wrapped my arm around his waist.
"Well you make me happier than I've ever been in my whole entire life too. You know, it used to be that I was my happiest when I was on stage, but when I met you, that changed. It became that I was - and still am - my happiest when I'm with you." Shawn said. I leaned on him for a few moments as we kept walking. I then looked out at the water.
"It's so beautiful here." I said.
"Not as beautiful as you my love, my wife." Shawn said. I blushed as I looked at him. He chuckled at my red face.
"Should we sit down and watch the sunset?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah. Come here." He said as he sat down. I sat down next to him.
"Baby?" I asked.
"Hmm?" He asked.
"Can I sit in between your legs please?" I asked. He smiled and nodded. He spread his legs a little and I moved over so I was sitting in between them. I rested my back against his chest and he wrapped his arms around me. Shawn kissed my neck and then rested his chin on my shoulder. I took out my phone and recorded the view of the water. The video included mine and Shawn's tangled legs, and then I flipped the camera around so it showed Shawn's face. He laughed. "Mind if I post this on my Instagram story?"
"Not at all babe." Shawn said. I posted it to my Instagram story. Shawn kissed my neck again as he rubbed my legs. I shivered at his touch. I moved my head a bit to give him more access to my neck.
"Shawn, let's go back to our suite." I said.
"Yup." Shawn said. We stood up and practically ran back to our suite and made love for the rest of the day. The rest of our stay in Honolulu was nothing short of magical. Next, we had to endure a 28 hours long flight to Donegal, Ireland. But I knew that it would be worth it.
Ireland
Shawn, my husband of now one week, and I, arrived at the Lough Eske Castle. I still couldn't believe that Shawn booked us a deluxe suite in a castle! My husband is the sweetest. Because the flight was so long and Shawn and I had had a movie marathon on some of our flight over, we were exhausted by the time that we got to our suite, but Shawn still carried me over the threshold.
"Are you going to carry me over the threshold each time we get to our suite for the first time?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded. His eyes were tired.
"Yeah. I'm exhausted baby. Do you want to come to bed with your husband? We can relax tomorrow if you want." Shawn asked and said. I nodded.
"Yeah, that sounds nice. Let's go to bed handsome." I said. We both went to bed and I smiled when I saw the rose petals all over the bed. I picked them all up and put them on my nightstand. Shawn pulled me nice and close to him as soon as I got into the bed.
"I love you Mrs. Mendes." He said.
"I love you too Mr. Mendes." I said. We soon fell asleep.
The next day I woke up before Shawn. I felt an overwhelming surge of love for this man, my husband. His pink and plump lips were slightly parted. His nose scrunched up for a moment before returning to its natural state. I gently got out of bed and got dressed for the day. I sat down on the couch and got out one of the books I had brought with me.
"Good morning beautiful." Shawn said as he walked towards me. I put the bookmark in the book and set the book aside.
"Good morning handsome. How did you sleep?" I asked as he sat down next to me and rubbed his eyes.
"Good. Didn't like waking up without my wife though. How did you sleep?" Shawn asked as moved so his body was facing me more. I then did the same.
"Good. Sorry that you woke up without me, but I figured that it would be creepy if I kept staring at your face." I said with a giggle. Shawn laughed.
"I'm your husband now so you can stare at my face as much as you would like, my dear. How about we go get some breakfast?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded.
"Okay, but I want a kiss first." I said. He smiled and kissed me. I could tell that he wanted more than a kiss by the way that he was kissing me and the way that his hands kept moving around my body. I pulled away and he groaned. "Let's get food in ourselves first and then you can get in your wife afterwards." I said. Shawn laughed and nodded.
"Okay babe." He said as we stood up. He got dressed and we went to go get some food.
"So what are we doing today?" I asked in between bites of my food.
"I figure that we could spend a lot of time in our bedroom today." Shawn said with a wink. I giggled and blushed.
"I wouldn't mind that." I said.
"No?" Shawn asked with a smirk. I shook my head.
"Nope, not at all. In fact, I would love it." I said. He smiled. After breakfast, we went back to our room and made love for almost the rest of the day. The next day, I woke up to Shawn rubbing my back. I looked at him and smiled. He smiled back.
"Good morning my sweet wife." He said.
"Good morning my sweet husband." I said.
"I have a question to ask you, and I know that you would never lie to me, but I need you to be absolutely honest with me, okay?" He asked. I nodded.
"Okay." I said.
"Is all of the sex that we're having making you sore at all?" Shawn asked as he brushed some hair out of my face. I smiled at how caring and loving he is.
"No. You're gentle, which I appreciate." I said. He smiled.
"Would you tell me if you were sore?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yes. I promise you that I will." I said.
"Good, thank you baby. They have a golf course about fifteen minutes away and I'm dying to try it out." Shawn said. I smiled.
"Can I watch?" I asked. He nodded.
"Of course you can. How about we get dressed, get some food in our bellies, and then head to the golf course?" Shawn asked. I nodded, and that's exactly what we did. I recorded a video of Shawn golfing and sent it to Niall Horan.
Niall: Tell him that he needs to work on his golfing. Having fun on the honeymoon?
Me: Oh definitely. It's been wonderful! Ireland is so beyond beautiful.
Niall: It really is! Got to go, I'll talk to you and your husband later!
"Babe?" I called out. Shawn looked at me.
"Yes love?" He asked.
"Niall says that you need to work on your golfing." I said. Shawn started looking around.
"Is he here?" Shawn asked. I giggled.
"No. I sent him a video of you golfing and he said to tell you that you need to work on your golfing." I said. Shawn laughed.
"That's what I'm trying to do." Shawn said and I smiled. After a little bit, we went back to the castle.
"What should we do now?" I asked. Shawn smirked and picked me up. My legs wrapped around his waist instinctively.
"I have an idea if you're up for it." Shawn said.
"I'm definitely up for it." I said. Shawn smiled and we made love. After we made love, I was cuddled up to Shawn.
"My love?" Shawn asked.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Would you like to take a bath with me?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said. We got out of bed and went into the bathroom. Shawn got the water going.
"Feel the water babe." He said. I felt it. It was nice and warm.
"It's perfect, just like my amazing husband." I said. Shawn smiled. We were already naked so we didn't have to get undressed, but I put my hair up. Shawn got into the bathtub first.
"Come here honey. Come sit with your back against my chest." He said, so that's what I did. I leaned my head back onto his shoulder and closed my eyes.
"You like it when we sit like this, don't you?" I asked as Shawn wrapped his arms around me. I placed my hands on his legs. He kissed my cheek.
"Yes I do baby. I love it. Do you like sitting like this too?" He asked.
"Yeah. I love you." I said with a smile. Shawn hummed in contentment and rested his head against my head.
"I love you too darling. I was thinking that we could go to the spa tomorrow. How does that sound?" Shawn said and asked. I nodded.
"That sounds wonderful." I said.
"Good because I already booked the appointments." He said. I laughed. We stayed in the bath for a little as we began to talk about our wedding day and how magical it was. The next day we went to the spa. The whole rest of our time there was beyond wonderful. Next: Lithuania.
Lithuania
Our flight from Donegal, Ireland to Vilnius, Lithuania was almost fourteen hours long, meaning lots of movies and lots of sleeping. We soon arrived at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Vilnius and immediately went to our suite. Shawn had booked us the executive suite with a balcony. After carrying me over the threshold and setting me down, Shawn and I instantly looked out at the view from the balcony.
"Look at this Shawn. We're in the country that my great-grandmother is from. This is amazing." I said as I looked out at the view. Shawn kissed my temple.
"It really is baby. Are you tired?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. So we're resting today, right?" I asked as I turned to him. He nodded and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Yup." He said as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
"What are we doing tomorrow?" I asked. Shawn smiled at me.
"We're going to Švenčionys." Shawn said, mentioning the name of the town that my great-grandmother is from. My eyes widened and I smiled.
"Really?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yup. I figure that we could find a place in town that might have records about your great-grandmother's side of the family." Shawn said.
"Oh Shawn I would love that." I said. He kissed me sweetly and then we were off to bed. The next day, I woke up before him, and I went out onto the balcony to watch the sunrise. We would be exploring the town that my great-grandma is from today and I couldn't wait. I suddenly felt someone's hands on my shoulders, which startled me so I jumped.
"Shhh darling, it's just me." Shawn said. I relaxed.
"Sorry. I was lost in thought, I guess." I said. Shawn kept an arm around my waist as he moved to stand next to me.
"What were you thinking about?" Shawn asked.
"We're going to go to the town that Grandma is from today. I'm excited! I hope that they have records of her family." I said.
"Yeah, that would be really nice, wouldn't it?" Shawn asked. I nodded and looked at him. He was already looking at me.
"Yeah, it would be. Do you want to watch the sunrise with me?" I asked. Shawn nodded and then moved to stand behind me as he rubbed my shoulders. I relaxed even more into his touch.
"How does this feel baby?" Shawn asked.
"Good. Wait, where's my phone?" I asked.
"I think it's in our room. Why?" Shawn asked.
"I want to take a picture of this view, not only so I can post it on Instagram, but also so I can keep it forever." I said.
"I'll grab your phone babe." Shawn said. He then came back out and handed it to me.
"Thank you." I said.
"You're welcome." He said.
"Wait, let's switch places. You stand in front of me honey." I said. Shawn did. He was wearing red shorts and a black shirt. I took a picture of him looking at the sunrise and then showed it to him. He smiled.
"I love it. Are you going to post it?" He asked.
"Would you mind if I did?" I asked.
"Not at all darling. Go ahead." He said. I sat down in the chair that was on the balcony and wrote my caption.
"Watching the beautiful Lithuanian sunrise with my amazing husband. This trip has been nothing short of magical, and I have Shawn to thank for that. He surprised me by booking all of the places that we would be staying at for our honeymoon. I'm so excited for today's adventures and all of the future adventures that Shawn and I will have together." I captioned it. Shawn checked the post and smiled.
"Perfect caption honey." He said.
"Thank you. When are we going to head to Švenčionys?" I asked as I leaned forward. Shawn smiled at me.
"How about we eat and then head out? I'm sure that we can get a rental car or something and then find town hall or somewhere that will have the records." Shawn said. I nodded and that's exactly what we did. Shawn drove to the town hall that we were somehow able to find, our English to Lithuanian and Lithuanian to English dictionaries with us. My heart pounded as we pulled up to the town hall. Shawn didn't know, but I had been practicing how to speak Lithuanian. Websites gave me basic translations, and it was wonderful.
Shawn's point of view
I held Y/n's hand as we walked into the town hall. An older woman at the desk looked at us.
"Sveiki, kaip galiu jums padėti? (A/n: according to google translate, that means "hello, how can I help you?")" She asked. Y/n and I looked at each other. I was about to say that we speak English and don't know much Lithuanian, but then words came out of my wife's mouth that I didn't recognize.
"Aš nesuprantu. (A/n: According to 17-minute-world-languages.com that means "I don't understand that.")" Y/n said. The woman nodded.
"Sorry, how can I help you?" She asked. How did she know to switch to English and what did my wife just say?
"It's okay. My great-grandmother is from here. She came to America in 1910, but do you know if there's any possible way that I could find records about her?" Y/n asked.
"What was the last name?" The woman asked. Y/n told her. "Let me go check."
"Okay, thank you." Y/n said. The woman then walked away. I looked at Y/n.
"What did you just say to her?" I asked. Y/n smiled.
"I said 'I don't understand that.'" She said.
"How did you know how to say that?" I asked. I swear to God, this woman, my newly wedded wife, never ceases to amaze me.
"I googled the basic things and found good websites." She said.
"Y/n Mendes, you never cease to amaze me." I said. Y/n blushed and smiled.
"Well you never cease to amaze me either." She said. I smiled at her and then the woman came back.
"Do you know who these people are?" The woman asked as she showed Y/n a document. Y/n looked at it and her eyes widened as she nodded.
"Yes. Oh my gosh, those are my great-great grandparents. Is that their address?" Y/n asked. The woman looked at the record.
"Yes it is. I believe that the house is still there." The woman said. Y/n looked at me.
"Honey can we at least walk past the house please? I want to see where my great-grandmother lived before she went to America." Y/n asked and said. I nodded and copied down the address. We thanked the woman and left.
"Should we park a little bit away from the house and then just walk past it while trying not to look creepy?" I asked as we drove to the house.
"Yeah. Oh my gosh I can't believe this is happening." Y/n said.
"I know." I said. We passed the house and then parked a little bit away from it and got out of the car. As soon as I reached Y/n, I interlaced our fingers. Her hands were shaking a bit. "Why are your hands shaking?"
"I feel nervous and excited. Oh my gosh." Y/n said. We slowed our walk down a little bit as we passed the house. There was a teenage girl in the front lawn who came up to us.
"Aren't you Shawn Mendes?" She asked. I nodded and put my arm around Y/n's waist - I was seriously concerned that she would pass out from shock of seeing the house or something.
"Yes I am." I said.
"I'm Regina." She said. She then looked at Y/n. "Are you okay?"
"This was her great-grandmother's house so I think that she's in a bit of shock right now." I said as I looked at Y/n. She wasn't looking at the girl, Regina, she was looking at the house.
"I'll be right back." Regina said and then went in the house. I looked at Y/n.
"You okay honey?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yeah, just surprised that we're really here." She said. I nodded and then saw a woman come out with Regina. The woman smiled at us.
"Hello, I'm Lina Mankus. I heard that this was your great-grandmother's house?" Lina said to Y/n. Y/n nodded.
"Yeah. It's amazing to see it. I never thought that I would be able to see it." Y/n said.
"How old is this house?" I asked, wondering if it was actually the same house.
"It was built in the 1800s." Lina said. I smiled. I knew from Y/n's speechless state, she would be unable to ask questions.
"Do you know if it has been changed a lot since about 1910?" I asked.
"Some of the things have been changed but not a lot. Would you like to come in and see the house that your great-grandmother lived in?" Lina asked Y/n. Y/n's eyes widened.
"Really?" Y/n asked. Lina nodded.
"Of course. Shawn is Regina's favorite singer and it would be an honor to have you guys in our house." Lina said. Y/n looked at me. I could tell what she was thinking just by the look on her face: Can we? Please? I nodded.
"We would love to see the house." I said. I held Y/n's still shaking hand as we went inside. Lina gave us a tour of the house.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was your great-grandmother's name? There are some names engraved on the wall over there." Lina said. Y/n said her great-grandmother's name and Lina smiled. She then pointed at the wall. Y/n walked over to it and I followed her. I heard her gasp and then saw her put her hand to her mouth. She used the other hand to touch the names, especially her great-grandmother's name.
"There she is. Do you mind if I take a picture?" Y/n asked Lina.
"That's fine. I trust you guys not to take anything, would you two like a moment alone in here?" Lina asked. Y/n and I nodded.
"Yes please." We said. Y/n took a picture of her great-grandmother's name, along with some of her great-great aunts and uncles names.
"My great-great grandmother or great-great grandfather must have done this. Grandma was only six when she came over. Can we sit down please?" Y/n asked. I nodded.
"Of course." I said. We sat down and Y/n looked around.
"This could have been her room." She said.
"I know." I said.
"There have been times when I've found her prayer books, or other things that were hers, and I felt connected to her. But Shawn, being in this house, finding her name engraved on the wall... I've never felt so connected to her as I do right now." Y/n said as tears formed in her eyes and fell onto her cheeks. I began to wipe them away with the pad of my thumb.
"Are these happy tears or sad tears?" I asked my wife. She thought for a moment.
"Both." She said as she looked at the names on the wall again.
"Why both?" I asked.
"Sad because she's not here to see one of her descendants return to her former home, but happy that we found it and were able to get a tour of the house." Y/n said. I nodded. After a couple more minutes, we stood up to leave the room. Y/n kissed her fingers and then placed her fingers on the wall. "Bye Grandma. I love you." She whispered. I held her hand and we left the room.
"Thank you so much for letting us see the house." I said to Regina and Lina.
"You're welcome. Could Regina get a picture with you guys?" Lina asked. I nodded.
"Of course." I said.
"Afterwards, could I get a picture with you guys please? You guys letting us come in here has meant so much to me." Y/n asked and said. They nodded.
"Of course." Lina said. Lina then took the picture of Regina, Y/n and I. I then took the picture of Lina, Y/n, and Regina.
"Thank you so much for giving us a tour of your beautiful home." Y/n said as we were about to leave.
"Actually, before you leave, I once found a photo and I've never been sure of what to do with it. I'll be right back." Lina said.
"Okay." Y/n and I said. We talked with Regina a bit and then Lina came back and handed Y/n a picture. Y/n's eyes widened, her hand went to her mouth, and tears formed in her eyes. I looked at the photo as I wrapped an arm around my wife's waist. It showed two adults - a male and a female - with five children standing outside the house.
"I guess it was a photo that was left behind before your family went to America. It has something written on the back." Lina said. Y/n read it out loud.
"Tilly and I with..." She read, and then listed the kids names and their ages at the time.
"It was tucked away in the attic, but it belongs to you now." Lina said. Y/n looked up at her - she had been staring at the photo.
"Oh my gosh, thank you so much." Y/n said.
"You're welcome." Lina said. Y/n held the photo in her hand, and we said goodbye and left. She kept smiling while looking at the photo as we drove back to the hotel.
"Are you okay darling?" I asked.
"Yeah. Shawn, these are my great-great grandparents with some of my great-great uncles and aunts and my great-grandmother. Considering the fact that it says 'Tilly and I' I'm guessing that my great-great grandfather wrote on this. Oh my gosh I'm so happy right now." She said. I smiled.
"Good. I like it when my wife is happy." I said.
"Thank you for saying yes when she asked us about going in the house Shawn. That was an amazing experience." Y/n said.
"Anything for you darling." I said. We soon arrived back at our hotel.
"I'll be right back." Y/n said.
"Okay." I said. She took her phone with her and a key to our room. She came back a little bit later with some paper. We had a desk in our room, and I watched as she grabbed a pen, and with the photo close to her, she began to write something. I played on my phone and texted people. After a bit, Y/n walked over to me.
"Shawn baby, will you look at this please?" She asked as handed me the paper. I nodded.
"Of course honey." I said. I then noticed an envelope on the desk. I looked at the top of the paper - it was hotel stationary - and then began to read what my wife had written.
"Dear Ms. Mankus and Regina,
Shawn and I simply cannot thank you enough for the generosity and hospitality that you showed us today. We're here in Lithuania for part of our honeymoon. I've always wanted to come to Lithuania to see the country that my great-grandmother is from. I never thought that I would not only be able to come to your beautiful country, but also to see where my family once lived. As Shawn and I sat in the room that had my great-grandmother's name and some of her siblings names engraved on the wall, I felt more connected to her than I ever have in my whole life. That was thanks to you, since you invited us into your beautiful home.
As soon as Shawn and I get home, I'm going to frame the beautiful picture that you gave us. For a picture that's over a hundred years old, it's still in good condition! It's wonderful to know that my family, a caring and loving family, once lived in a home that now belongs to another caring and loving family. The memory of today will forever remain in mine and my husband's hearts. Thank you once again, from the bottom of mine and Shawn's hearts.
With the deepest amount of gratitude,
Y/n Mendes." She had written. I smiled at her.
"That's beautiful my love. We should probably wait until our last day here before we mail it since it has the address of the hotel on it." I said. She nodded.
"Okay. Do you think it would be okay if I took a picture of the picture that they gave me so I can post it on Instagram or no?" Y/n asked. I thought for a moment and then shrugged.
"It's up to you baby." I said. She nodded and then took a picture of the picture. She sat next to me as she wrote her post, and soon my phone lit up. I liked the photo and read the caption.
"I have the most amazing husband in the world. Shawn surprised me by booking the places that we would stay in for our honeymoon, one of them being a place in Lithuania. My great-grandmother is from Lithuania, and today Shawn and I traveled to the town that she lived in before she traveled with her parents and some of her siblings to America. We got to the town hall, and I asked if they had any records on her. They did, and there was an address. Shawn drove us to the house and parked a little bit away and we walked by the house.
"There was a girl outside that was a fan of Shawn's. I was too shocked about the fact that we were standing in front of Grandma's house to say anything, so Shawn told the girl that my great-grandmother had once lived there. The girl went inside and came back out with her mother. Shawn asked if this was the original house, and it was. He asked how much had changed since 1910 (the year my family came to America) and the woman said that not much had changed. She then invited us inside. Shawn and I went in and got a tour of the house. The mother said that there were names engraved on the wall, and I couldn't help but get emotional when I saw the names of my great-grandmother and some of her siblings engraved on the wall.
"The woman gave Shawn and I some time alone in the room. I told Shawn that I had never felt so connected to Grandma than I did at that moment. When Shawn and I were about to leave, the mother gave me this photo. My great-great grandparents must have left it behind by accident before they left for America. My great-great grandfather must have been the one to write on the back considering the fact that it says 'Tilly and I with' and then lists my aunts, uncles, and my great-grandmother, and Tilly is my great-great grandmother. The mother said that she hadn't known what to do with the photo, but that it belongs to me now. To Lina and Regina: thank you." Y/n wrote. I smiled and liked the post.
"Beautiful caption honey." I said.
"Thank you." She said. She then put the picture in a book to keep it flat and safe until we got home. We soon went to bed. The rest of our week in Lithuania was amazing. We mailed out the letter to the Mankus family on our last day. Our next stop was Australia and we had a magical time there as well. When we got home, true to her word, just like always, Y/n instantly put the photo of her ancestors in a frame, which she then put on her dresser in our bedroom. I'm the luckiest man alive to be married to Y/n Mendes, and I can't wait for the rest of our adventures together in life.
