I stayed up, waiting for my boyfriend of almost three and a half years, Shawn Mendes, to return home. I haven't seen him in what feels like forever but in all reality it's simply been a few months. I was sitting on the couch at eleven o'clock at night watching videos of Shawn on YouTube when he walked in the door. I gave him a tired smile and he smiled back.

"Hey handsome. Do you need any help with your bags?" I asked. He shook his head.

"No, you just stay right there my beautiful baby girl. I'm going to put my luggage in the family room and then I'll take care of it in the morning." He said. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. Soon, Shawn was done bringing his luggage in and he came over and sat on the couch with me.

"Is my precious girl watching videos of me again?" Shawn asked with a smirk. I giggled and as I nodded, I yawned.

"Yeah. This is what I do when I miss you, I watch videos of you. You're so cute babe." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek.

"Thank you baby. You're the cutest." He said. I yawned and shook my head.

"Nope, you are." I said.

"Why don't we go to bed honey? It's getting late and you keep yawning." Shawn asked and said. I shook my head and scooted closer to him.

"No, I'm okay, I promise. I haven't seen my man in a while and I want to spend time with you." I said. Shawn wrapped his arms around me and kissed the side of my head. I began to play with the finger that a wedding ring would go on someday. Shawn and I have talked about marriage and kids and our whole future together.

"What are you thinking about baby?" Shawn asked.

"I can't wait until we're husband and wife and we get to spend the rest of our lives together." I said. Shawn hummed.

"I know baby, I can't wait either." Shawn said and I smiled.

"Do you think that it would be okay if I changed my last name to Mendes when we get married?" I asked.

"Of course babe. You really want to change your last name to mine?" Shawn asked. I looked up at him.

"Of course I do. I love you and when we get married I want to take your last name so I will forever be known as Mrs. Y/n Mendes." I said. Shawn smiled at me.

"I love you too baby. You're going to look so beautiful on our wedding day, you always look so beautiful." He said. I blushed.

"Thank you handsome." I said.

"You're welcome gorgeous." He said and I smiled. A thought then popped into my head: Shawn and I have talked about marriage all the time, so why hasn't he proposed yet? He says that he wants us to spend the rest of our lives together, but he hasn't asked me yet. I played with his fingers as I leaned on him.

"Shawn?" I asked.

"Hmm?" He asked before kissing the side of my head.

"Do you really want to marry me?" I asked. He put his hand to my cheek so I would look at him.

"Of course I do. I've never been so sure of anything in my life. Why do you ask that my love?" Shawn asked. I shrugged.

"I don't know. I guess that, well, we talk about marriage all of the time, but you haven't asked yet. I just really want to be married to you." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead and the spot that he kissed was left feeling tingly even after his lips were no longer there.

"I really want to be married to you too. Would it make you feel better if I told you that I have a plan, and I already have the ring?" Shawn asked. I sat up, paused the video of him, and turned to him with wide eyes.

"Do you really?" I asked. He chuckled and nodded.

"Yup. Does that make you feel better?" He asked. I nodded.

"Hell yeah it does!" I said and Shawn threw his head back with laughter. I then yawned again.

"Well I'm glad it does. Let's get you to bed babe." Shawn said as he turned off the television and scooped me up into his arms.

"But I want to spend time with you." I said as Shawn carried me up the stairs.

"I know you do honey, and I want to spend time with you too, but you're tired and I'm home until June." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Okay. So when are you going to propose?" I asked as Shawn tucked me into bed. I heard him chuckle.

"I can't tell you that babe. It's going to be a surprise." Shawn said.

"Well where's the ring?" I asked.

"Not going to tell you babe. Rest my love, I can tell that you're tired." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. I then fell asleep.

One week later

I woke up in the morning to the sound of people in mine and Shawn's house. I got out of bed and went downstairs. Andrew Gertler, Shawn's manager, and Josiah Van Dien, Shawn's tour photographer, were sitting in the living room with Shawn. They smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Good morning." I said. Shawn smiled at me and opened his arms up.

"Good morning darling. How did you sleep?" Shawn asked as I sat on his lap. I kissed his cheek.

"Good. How about you handsome?" I asked as I rubbed his back.

"Good. I want to take you somewhere today and Andrew and Josiah are going to come with us to take pictures of us." Shawn said. I nodded and got off his lap.

"Okay. Where are we going? Do I need to dress up a lot?" I asked. Shawn shook his head.

"No, just wear regular clothes babe. I'm not going to tell you where we're going, it's a surprise." Shawn said. I groaned.

"I don't like surprises." I said. Shawn laughed.

"I know that you don't, which is what makes this even better." Shawn said. I kissed his cheek.

"I love you baby boy." I said. Shawn's smile widened.

"I love you too, my princess." Shawn said. I smiled and went upstairs. I put on some white shorts and a blue t-shirt. Shawn had already been wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. I put on a minimal amount of make: just eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow. I went back downstairs.

"Shawn baby? Do I look okay?" I asked. Shawn looked at me and smiled before he stood up and put his hands on my waist.

"You look beautiful baby. Are you all set and ready to go?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Okay, you head out to the car babe, I'll be right there with Andrew." Shawn said. I nodded and Josiah and I got in the car. I sat in the front passenger seat and he sat behind me.

"So Y/n, are you excited?" Josiah asked.

"Even though I don't know where we're going? Yes." I said and Josiah laughed. Soon, Shawn and Andrew got in the car. Shawn backed out of the driveway, and as soon as got on the road, he reached out for my hand and interlaced our fingers together. As our skin touched, electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. I kissed Shawn's hand as I looked at him and he smiled.

"You're so precious to me darling. I love you so much." He said.

"Well you're so precious to me too and I love you so much too." I said. He kissed my hand.

"You're my favorite person babe." Shawn said.

"Hey!" Andrew protested and we laughed.

"Oh come on man, you must've known that she's my favorite person ever. I've only said it about a million times." Shawn said and we laughed when we heard Andrew sigh.

"Well you're my favorite person too." I said. Shawn smiled.

"Good." He said.

"Mind if I do a Snapchat video?" I asked once we got on the highway. Shawn shook his head.

"No I don't mind. That's fine darling." Shawn said. I pulled out my phone and started to do a videotape on Snapchat.

"Shawn baby where are we going?" I asked.

"I'm not going to tell you babe." Shawn said with a laugh. I sighed and then filmed Andrew and Josiah.

"Look who's coming with us to an unknown place!" I said and everyone laughed. I soon ended the video and posted it on my Snapchat. We all talked a bit while Shawn drove. I yawned.

"You tired babe?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. I think that I'm going to close my eyes." I said.

"Okay honey. I'll wake you up when we get there." He said.

"Okay, thank you. I love you." I said as I closed my eyes.

"You're welcome my love. I love you too." Shawn said. I quickly fell asleep, but then was woken up a little bit later to the sound of someone talking.

"So are you nervous?" Andrew asked. I pretended to be asleep.

"I mean, a little bit, but not really." Shawn said.

"What do you mean?" Andrew asked.

"Well, she's already promised me that she would say yes, but I'm still a little nervous for some reason." Shawn said. Oh my gosh. Is Shawn about to propose? It sure sounds like it. I moved a little in my seat.

"Shawny?" I asked.

"Hey baby. How was your nap?" He asked.

"Good. How much longer until we get there?" I asked.

"We should be there in about two minutes or so." Shawn said. I opened my eyes and looked around.

"Oh my gosh! Are we going to Uncle Scottie's bench?" I asked. Shawn chuckled.

"Yup, we are." Shawn said.

"Oh my gosh Shawn that's where we had our first kiss! Wait, please tell me that we can recreate that moment?" I asked as I felt the excitement build. Shawn nodded.

"Of course we can, and maybe Josiah could take pictures of us recreating our first kiss?" Shawn asked.

"Sounds good to me." Josiah said. I smiled as we pulled up to the park.

"You guys walk a little bit ahead of us, we'll hang back so Josiah can take cute pictures of you two." Andrew said.

"Okay." Shawn said. Him and I held hands again as we crossed the street and headed towards the park.

"Do you remember that day baby?" I asked.

"How could I forget?" Shawn asked. I smiled and giggled. I then heard the clicking of Josiah's camera.

"I can hear his camera. Want to randomly stop and turn around and do a silly pose for them?" I whispered.

"Definitely. On three?" He asked.

"Yup." I said.

"Okay. One." He said.

"Two." I said.

"Three." He said and we turned around and did silly poses. Andrew laughed as Josiah took the pictures.

"You guys are silly." Andrew said.

"It was her idea." Shawn said. I nodded and we resumed our walking. We soon got to the bench that we were sitting at when we had our first kiss.

"Okay, so when we had our first kiss, Shawn was sitting here, and I was sitting here, but my head was on his chest and I was leaning on him and he had his arm around me." I said. Shawn sat down.

"Come sit with me baby. Let's recreate it." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Okay, so first, Shawn said that my lips are beautiful and I said that his lips are beautiful too." I said.

"And then I thanked her and said that maybe our lips should meet up and get to know each other." Shawn said, and even though we were talking to Andrew and Josiah, Shawn and I were looking at each other, our eyes locked together as if they couldn't break away - but I didn't want to break away from his eyes.

"Yup, and then I got nervous and said that I didn't want to get hurt again. I had already told him about my ex being a jerk and so I told him that I was worried about getting hurt again." I said.

"Yup, and I squatted down in front of her like this." Shawn said as he got up and squatted down in front of me. I nodded and smiled.

"Yup." I said.

"And then I promised her that I would never hurt her and she told me not to make a promise that I may not be able to keep." Shawn said as he sat back down next to me. My eyes never left him.

"And then I told her that I can keep this promise. We talked a bit and that I asked him to kiss me. He was so sweet about it, he said that he wanted to make sure that I was okay with it." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yup, and she said that she knows that she's comfortable with me and I said that I'm comfortable with her too. I told her that these past two days with her had made me so happy and she smiled and asked if I was going to kiss her." Shawn said.

"He asked if I was sure, and I said yes." I said. Shawn smirked as he began to scratch his head.

"You know babe, I don't remember, it's just simply slipping my mind: what happened next?" Shawn teased. I giggled.

"I think that it went a little something like this." I said and put my lips on Shawn's. I didn't even care about the click of Josiah's camera. I cared about the feelings that I was getting. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through my body like fireworks. Shawn and I soon pulled away and smiled at each other.

"Okay so maybe our first kiss didn't go on for that long, but still, it was our first kiss." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Yup. And it was magical, just like always." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yup." He said.

"Do you guys want to start doing some photos now?" Josiah asked. I finally tore my eyes away from Shawn's and looked at Josiah and nodded.

"Sure." I said.

"How about one of me sitting here looking at my girl as she looks at the view?" Shawn asked.

"Okay." Josiah said. I smiled and walked forward to the river.

"I love it here!" I said. I heard Shawn chuckle.

"You think the view is pretty, I think you're prettier. I know you're prettier." Shawn said. I blushed.

"I'm really glad that my back is to you so you can't see my blush." I said and I heard Shawn laugh.

"So, Y/n, what are we doing here?" Andrew asked me.

"Recreating old memories!" I said with a smile.

"And making new ones." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Yup." I said.

"Turn around babe." Shawn said. I did, and even though I had heard him in the car, I still felt happy tears form in my eyes as I saw Shawn down on one knee with a little box in his hand.

"Oh my gosh." I said as I walked closer to him. He smiled at me and reached one of his hands out for mine. I held his hand as my other hand covered my mouth. He stroked the top of my hand with his thumb a little bit.

"Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n, you're my everything. You're my best friend, my soulmate, my girl, my rock, my everything. You're the most important person in the world to me and I love you more than words will ever be able to describe. You're my one and only. You're so beautiful and gorgeous and stunning, and I love waking up before you to see the sun hit you just right. You're breathtaking. But you're more than just your looks. You're kind, caring, smart, funny, loving, the list goes on and on. You're amazing and one of a kind. I already wake up every morning and choose you, but I want to continue to do that. So, will you do me the biggest honor and marry me?" Shawn asked as he opened the box to reveal the most beautiful ring that I had ever seen. Happy tears fell onto my cheeks as I nodded.

"Yes! Of course yes Shawn! Of course I'll marry you!" I said. Shawn's smile widened and he took the ring out of the box and began to put it on me.

"Both of our hands are shaking." He said with a chuckle.

"I know. Oh my gosh Shawn!" I said as he stood up and hugged me.

"I love you baby." He said.

"I love you too. Oh my gosh Shawn this is amazing and the ring is so beautiful!" I said as I pulled away from the hug a little to admire the ring.

"I designed it myself." Shawn said. I looked up at him.

"Did you really?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yup. Well, I would see one ring that had things that I liked, and another ring that had things that I liked, but I didn't see anything that had everything that I wanted, so I asked if I could design the ring, and they said yes." Shawn said. I hugged him.

"That just makes me love the ring even more. Oh my gosh Shawn, I love you so damn much." I said. He kissed my cheek.

"I love you so damn much too baby. Come give me a kiss darling." Shawn said, and when we kissed, somehow this kiss felt more magical than all of the others. We pulled away and smiled at each other.

"We're going to get married!" I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yes we are my beautiful girl. I can't wait to be your husband." Shawn said.

"I can't wait to be your wife." I said.

"Do you guys want to do a photoshoot now?" Josiah asked.

"Actually, could I talk to my fiancé for a moment please?" I asked. Andrew and Josiah nodded.

"Sure." They said and took a few steps away. I turned to Shawn.

"What's up baby?" He asked as he smiled at me.

"Um, so when I was asleep in the car, I woke up and heard Andrew asking if you were nervous and I heard your response. I wasn't sure of where you were taking me, but I kind of figured out what you were about to do." I said. His eyes went wide.

"I am so sorry honey, you weren't supposed to hear that." He said. I cupped his face with my hands.

"It's okay handsome. It just made me even more excited. We should probably call our families and tell them." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah." He said and we called our families and texted our friends. They were all ecstatic and tremendously happy for us. We then waved Josiah and Andrew over.

"Ready for photos?" Josiah asked.

"Yup." Shawn and I said. We took a bunch of beautiful photos and it was wonderful. I tried to cover up my yawn, but Shawn noticed it.

"Tired babe?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. I haven't had coffee yet today." I said. Shawn smirked.

"I know the perfect place." He said. I smiled, knowing where he was going to take me.

"Yeah?" I asked. He kissed my forehead and the spot that he kissed was left feeling tingly even after his lips were no longer there.

"Yeah. Do you guys mind if we go get coffee?" Shawn asked Andrew and Josiah.

"That's fine." They said and we got in the car.

"Josiah could you do me a favor please?" Shawn asked as he drove.

"Yeah, what's up man?" Josiah asked.

"Could you send Y/n and I the pictures of me down on one knee as soon as possible? I can't wait to announce the fact that I'm going to marry this girl." Shawn asked and said as he played with my engagement ring.

"Yeah, I'll do that as soon as I can." Josiah said.

"Thank you." Shawn and I said. Soon, Shawn pulled up to the Dunkin Donuts that we met at.

"Ready to take another trip down memory lane?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yup." He said. We all got out of the car, and Josiah even brought his laptop in so he could start working on the pictures.

"When was the last time that we were here?" I asked as Shawn wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"I think that it was when me met - no, it was the next day." Shawn said.

"Oh that's right! We met here before going on our second date." I said as we approached the counter.

"Yup." He said. We then ordered our drinks and Shawn paid for Josiah and Andrew's drinks.

"You don't have to pay for our drinks." Andrew said.

"Well first of all, it's a little too late now since I already paid for them, and second of all, consider it a thank you for photographing and videotaping me proposing." Shawn said.

"Wait, Andrew you video taped it?" I asked with wide eyes. He nodded.

"Yup. Do you want me to send it to you?" He asked.

"Yes please!" I said. He laughed and pulled out his phone and sent it to me. We soon got our drinks.

"Babe, do you want to sit where we sat on our first date?" Shawn asked. I smiled and nodded.

"Absolutely." I said. We found the spot that we had been sitting in on our first date, and sat down. Andrew and Josiah sat a little bit away from us.

"Thank you for saying yes." Shawn said before taking a sip of the drink that I had suggested that he order the first time we met. I smiled at him.

"Oh Shawny, of course I said yes. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, you know that. Thank you for asking me to be your wife." I said. He smiled and nodded.

"Of course baby." Shawn said. Our phones then lit up. Josiah had sent the photos.

"When should we post?" I asked.

"Should we do it right now?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. You post first babe." I said. He nodded and then looked at Josiah and we thanked him. Shawn saved the photos to his phone, just like I did, and then made his post. I smiled when I saw the post. He had chosen the picture of me when I realized that he was down on one knee, the picture of me holding one of his hands as he made his speech, him putting the ring on me, and then the last picture was us kissing. I read the caption.

"August 16, 2019, Y/n and I met, fell in love right away, and I asked her out within five minutes of meeting her and we had our first date right away. August 17, 2019, we had our second date at a park and then had our first kiss. December 22, 2019, I asked her to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. Today, May 22, 2022, I took her back to where we had our first kiss and asked her to marry me and she said yes. I'm the luckiest man alive and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with the most amazing woman by my side. I love you Y/n Y/l/n, soon to be Y/n Mendes!" Shawn captioned it. I smiled and then posted the picture of me holding his hand while he was down on one knee, him putting the ring on me, and one of our engagement photos where I showed off my ring.

"My best friend asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! Shawn, you're the most amazing man in the world, the love of my life, my soulmate, my everything, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you so much my love, and I can't wait to be your wife!" I wrote. Shawn liked the photo.

"Beautiful. Mind if I post another photo?" He asked. I shook my head.

"No that's fine." I said. He then posted the photo of him holding my chin as I looked up at him. He had put a quote as the caption.

"'I love you and that's the beginning and end of everything.' - F. Scott Fitzgerald." Shawn captioned it. I smiled and then posted a photo of him and I hugging as I laughed as he kissed my cheek.

"'Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.' - Emily Bronte." I captioned it. Shawn smiled at the post.

"I love it honey." He said. I smiled.

"Thank you baby." I said. We all soon went back to mine and Shawn's house. After Josiah and Andrew left, Shawn picked me up and spun me around.

"WE'RE GOING TO GET MARRIED!" He yelled and I laughed.

"Okay, getting dizzy." I said and he set me down and held my face in his big hands. His smile was huge, just like mine.

"I can't wait baby. Oh my gosh, I just love you so much." Shawn said as he began to kiss all over my face. I laughed.

"Baaabe. I want cuddles." I said as I laughed. Shawn pulled away, picked me up, and we laid down on the couch.

"I love you so much honey." He said as I laid on top of him.

"I love you so much too babe." I said. We turned on a Harry Potter film and I put my head on his chest and closed my eyes. He rubbed my back and I relaxed even further into his soothing touch. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with Shawn.
