21. Quiet Moments
I stood in the kitchen in the morning. I was wearing my husband's t-shirt, a comfortable sports bra, and underwear, but no pants. I've been married to the singer and songwriter Shawn Peter Raul Mendes for two amazing, wonderful, fantastic, months now, and I couldn't be happier. Shawn truly is the love of my life and I don't know what I would do without him. I was brewing myself some coffee when I felt arms wrap around my waist, causing me to jump.
"Shhh baby, it's just me." Shawn said, and I relaxed into his touch as I leaned back.
"Good morning hubby." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek.
"Good morning wifey. How did you sleep last night?" Shawn asked.
"Good. You know, what we did before bed really wiped me out, and plus I was in your arms, so I think that that's why I slept so well last night. How did you sleep?" I said and asked with a smile. Shawn and I made love for a bit before we went to bed last night, and it was wonderful - just like always. Shawn kissed my shoulder and let his hands run down to my legs so he could rub them.
"Last night was amazing my love. I slept good too. I love holding you. Does me rubbing your legs feel nice?" Shawn asked as I finished making my coffee.
"Yeah. I love it when you hold me. Do you want me to make you some tea?" I asked.
"I can make it babe." Shawn said.
"No, I want to do it. I know how you like it." I said. Shawn chuckled and nodded his head against my shoulder.
"Oh trust me babe, you know exactly how I like it." Shawn said, and I blushed, knowing that he was referring to things that we do in our bedroom. I began to make his tea.
"Do you have any plans today?" I asked as Shawn moved so he could stand next to me. I smiled at his handsome face as he shook his head.
"Nope. Well, I have one thing to do today." He said.
"Oh. What is it?" I asked. He smiled at me and I felt butterflies in my tummy.
"Spend the whole day with my amazing wife." Shawn said. My smile widened.
"I like that plan." I said.
"Yeah?" Shawn asked.
"Uh huh. In fact, I love it." I said. Shawn reached over and kissed my cheek. He then smiled at me for a moment before putting his lips on mine. His hands gently grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him as I wrapped my arms around his neck and shoulders. As our lips moved in sync with each other, I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. We soon pulled away.
"I love you baby." Shawn said as he wrapped his arms around me from behind as I finished making his tea.
"I love you too honey. You're my world, I hope that you know that." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek again. He hadn't even been up for ten minutes and he was already being quite touchy feely. I didn't mind it though.
"Well you're my world too. Never forget that." Shawn said. I smiled and turned around in his arms so I could face him.
"I won't baby. Your tea is ready." I said. Shawn gave me a quick kiss before reaching behind me to grab his mug.
"Thanks babe. You're the best wife ever." He said. I tried to hide my blushing face with my coffee mug as I took a sip, but I could tell that Shawn had noticed my red face when he chuckled.
"Don't laugh at me Mendes! You're the one that made me blush!" I said with a laugh.
"You know, you're also a Mendes now." Shawn said. I nodded.
"Yup, and that's all thanks to you. Do you want to sit outside while we have our drinks?" I asked. Shawn nodded.
"Yeah. Come on Mrs. Mendes." Shawn said as he carried his mug in one hand and held my hand with his other hand. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time.
"Oh gosh, please never stop calling me Mrs. Mendes." I said as Shawn led me out to our back deck. He laughed and I sat down next to him.
"I won't. What are you doing babe? Come sit on my lap." He said. I smiled, put my drink on the little table that we had out there, and sat on his lap.
"Better?" I asked as I leaned back against him. He put his drink down too and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Much." He said. We mostly stayed silent, just taking in the presence of the beautiful nature around us - the beautiful blue sky, the big tree in the middle of our backyard, the garden that's on the far back end of our backyard, all of it - and each other. When Shawn wasn't sipping his tea or rubbing my sides or something, he would play with my wedding ring. I closed my eyes.
"I love these types of moments with you." I said, finally breaking the silence.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I love it when it's just the two of us. I mean, yes I love our family and friends, but these are the moments that I treasure the most: the quiet moments when it's just the two of us. You and I don't even have to be talking, we just have to be together and it's so serene and peaceful. I love you so much honey." I said. Shawn kissed my cheek.
"I love you so much too baby, and I love these moments with you too." He said.
"Like, these quiet moments between us are my favorite types of moments with you." I said.
"What are you trying to say babe? You don't like hearing my voice?" Shawn teased. I put my drink down and moved so I was straddling him. He smirked at me as he put his hands on my waist and I cupped his face with my hands.
"Don't ever speak such words ever again. Your voice is my favorite voice to hear, and if I could just sit back and listen to you talk for a whole day, I would. Need I remind you that I saw you in concert the night before we met? I'm just saying, when you can have a comfortable silence with someone and there's no pressure to talk, that's wonderful too, and it shows the strength in the relationship. I love your voice baby. Never forget that." I said. Shawn smiled at me.
"Well I love your voice too. Hey baby girl?" He asked.
"Hmmm?" I responded as I let my fingers tangle into his hair.
"Have I ever told you that you look absolutely ravishing in my clothes?" He asked. I smiled and blushed.
"Thank you baby. I figured that I didn't have to wear shorts or anything because your shirt is like a dress on me." I said with a giggle and Shawn laughed too.
"Yup, it is. Want to lay back down on me babe?" Shawn asked. I nodded and moved so my back was against his chest again. We fell back into a peaceful and comfortable silence. Our drinks were soon gone but we remained outside in the nice weather. I love Shawn, my husband, and our quiet moments so much, and I'll always treasure them.
