198. Quality Time

I walked off the plane and into the airport. My eyes darted around, looking for a tall, gorgeous man - my man. I soon noticed him, a smile spreading across my face as he smiled at me too. Shawn had flowers in his hands, which he quickly handed to his security guard, Jake. Shawn looked at me again and opened his arms up wide. I jumped into his arms and he spun me around. I had missed my man so much. Shawn eventually put me down and planted a kiss on my lips. I kissed back of course and then hugged him as he swayed me from side to side.

"I missed you so much darling." Shawn said.

"I missed you too. It feels so good to be back in your arms." I said before kissing him again. He smiled at me.

"It feels good to have you in my arms again. Oh, these are for you. Thank you for holding them." Shawn said the last part to Jake.

"Hi Jake." I said with a little wave.

"Hi Y/n." He said with a smile. I turned back to Shawn and noticed that the flowers were pink peonies and white peonies - my favorite.

"Oh Shawn, they're beautiful." I said.

"Not as beautiful as you. Come on let's get your luggage. How was your flight?" Shawn asked.

"It was fine. Nothing eventful happened." I said as Shawn and I turned towards the place to get my luggage. He interlaced his fingers with mine, and as our skin touched I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time.

"Well I guess it's a good thing that nothing eventful happened, right?" Shawn asked with a smile. I nodded.

"Yup. You look so handsome." I said. He was wearing his Live Aid t-shirt and black skinny jeans. We stood at the baggage carousel, waiting for my luggage, but I looked at him. He looked good. Happy. I watched as he eyed me up and down. I was wearing white jeans, white sneakers, and a yellow Queen Tour t-shirt.

"Well you look very beautiful. I love the shirt darling." Shawn said as he dropped my hand and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around his waist and rubbed his back a little bit.

"Thank you my love." I said. I leaned on him as we waited for my luggage. Shawn and Jake grabbed my bigger pieces of luggage, I grabbed the smaller piece that I threw over my shoulder, and then held Shawn's hand again. Shawn was also holding my flowers.

"Ready for a summer of love?" Shawn asked me. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course." I said.

"Summer loving, had me a blast." Shawn sang, causing me to giggle.

"Grease is on Netflix, we should watch it." I said as Shawn swung our hands before bringing my hand up to his lips to kiss it.

"We should. Do you want to do that tonight?" Shawn asked.

"Sure." I said. We soon got to the car and Jake drove us to Shawn's apartment. I felt so excited to be with my sweet man for the summer. Jake brought us to Shawn's apartment, helped us carry the luggage in, and then said goodbye to us. I turned to Shawn and smiled at him. He smiled back at me.

"Come here gorgeous." Shawn said as he gently pulled at my waist. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and he held me as we kissed. I smiled into the kiss as I remembered the fact that it would soon mark a year and five months since we had started dating. Shawn smiled too and kissed my forehead.

"I love you baby." I said as Shawn rested his forehead against mine and swayed us from side to side.

"I love you too darling." He said.

"Can you believe it's going to be a year and five months since we started dating? That's almost a year and a half!" I said. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"I know, it's absolutely crazy. It feels like just yesterday I was walking into Dunkin Donuts to get a coffee and then ending up on a date with you." Shawn said. I nodded my head as I used my thumb to rub his cheek. He closed his eyes and leaned into my touch. I smiled, knowing my touch comforted him.

"My love, how about we cuddle on the couch? I can hold you and rub your head. Would you like that?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"I would love that." Shawn said. I grabbed the remote for the television and plopped onto the couch. Shawn laid on top of me, his head on my chest, and closed his eyes. I raked my fingers through his hair and kissed the top of his head.

"How's this?" I asked.

"Perfect. Thank you." He said as he wrapped his arms underneath me.

"You're welcome. Mind if I put a movie on?" I asked. He shook his head.

"No that's fine. By the way, I'm taking you out tomorrow. We're going exploring." Shawn said. I smiled.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"It's a secret." He said. I giggled. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was tired, so I kissed his forehead and didn't ask anymore questions.

"Rest, my love." I said. I rubbed his head and he fell asleep pretty quickly. I watched Clue while he snoozed. He had recently released a couple of singles, both of them about me which of course made me feel very happy and very loved. When he did the promotions for them, he was asked about me. I paused the movie, grabbed my phone, and went to YouTube to watch his most recent interview again. I put the volume low and held the phone away from Shawn so it wouldn't wake him up. He was being interviewed by Elvis Duran in the video.

"So, Shawn, I think it's obvious who these songs are about, but do you want to tell us who they're about anyways?" Elvis asked. Shawn smiled and nodded. He had a look of love on his face as he mentioned me.

"They're about my incredible girlfriend Y/n Y/l/n." Shawn said.

"She seems to be a very good inspiration for you." Elvis said.

"She really is, man. Not just with music, but with life too, as cheesy as that sounds." Shawn said.

"So how did you guys meet?" Elvis asked. I couldn't help but smile at the affectionate look my sweet man had on his face.

"I was on tour in Boston and I walked into Dunkin Donuts expecting to get a coffee. There was a girl at the front of the line and I didn't know what to get so I thought that I would just ask her, and when she turned around we locked eyes and that was it. She came up to me and asked me something and my first words to her were 'I'm sorry what? You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.' and within five minutes I had asked her on a date." Shawn said.

"How soon into it did you realize that she's the one? Because you sing about wanting to kiss her and laugh with her forever in your song Blue Eyed Girl (A/n: I know not everyone has blue eyes, it looked weird when I wrote it another way so if you have a different eye color just pretend that it says that eye color!) which you've said in the past you wrote after your second date with her." Elvis asked.

"I knew right away that she's the one for me. The moment we locked eyes I thought 'Her. She's the one I'm gonna marry. I have to get to know her. I have to get her number, her Instagram, Twitter, something.' I remember the first time I heard her laugh and I knew that I needed to hear it for the rest of my life." Shawn said.

"Now did she reciprocate all of these feelings?" Elvis asked.

"Completely! Yeah, which I think was the best part honestly. We kissed for the first time on our second date and we would talk all of the time. I asked her to be my girlfriend December twenty-seventh, 2019 - we just celebrated our one year anniversary - and then on our first Valentine's Day was when she told me that she loved me and wanted to spend forever with me." Shawn said.

"That's cute. Does she sit with you while you're writing your songs? How does she support your music?" Elvis asked.

"Sometimes she sits with me while she reads or does something on her iPad or laptop. She supports my music by inspiring me. She's my biggest fan, you know? Our first livestream, we had music playing in the background, and one of my songs came on, so I sang along to it, and when I was done singing she started cheering and clapping. It was the cutest thing ever." Shawn said with a smile.

"I saw that livestream! I loved the part of the livestream where her friend was in the room and Y/n said 'Let me tell you all of the ways my boyfriend is incredible. One: He was born. Two: He exists. Three: Everything else.'" Elvis said. Shawn laughed, and I giggled as I watched it.

"I thought it was hilarious when she said that if someone were to take away my voice, my face would be my money maker." Shawn said.

"Yes, especially because it's true." Elvis said. I felt Shawn move on top of me so I paused the video, but when he picked his head up and smiled at me, I knew he had heard it.

"Having fun?" He asked. I blushed and nodded.

"Yeah." I said.

"Good. Come on, let's go to bed." Shawn said. We went to bed and fell asleep together for the first time in a few weeks - the last time we had seen each other was my birthday the month before. The next morning, after breakfast, Shawn told me to get dressed, we were going out.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked. I was dressed in white jeans and a blue off the shoulder shirt with white sneakers. I had straightened my hair and put on some light makeup and jewelry.

"I guess you'll just have to take my hand and find out." Shawn said with a shrug. I giggled as he extended his hand towards me. I interlaced my fingers with his and we left his place. He looked extremely handsome in black skinny jeans and a pink t-shirt. We got in the car and soon arrived at High Park. I smiled at my sweet man as he pulled into the parking space. He leaned over the console and gave me a quick kiss before we got out of the car. Shawn went to the trunk of his jeep and opened it up.

"What are you doing?" I asked. Shawn pulled out a picnic basket and a blanket. My eyes widened and I gasped as I realized what he was doing.

"You once told me that no one had ever taken you on a picnic, so I'm taking you on a long overdue and well deserved picnic. Come on." Shawn said as he put the blanket under his arm and held my hand.

"Oh my gosh. When did you do this?" I asked.

"When you were in the shower I made the sandwiches, put them in the basket, and then put the basket and blanket in the car." He said. I kissed his hand.

"What would I do without you?" I asked.

"Crash and burn." Shawn teased as he gently bumped his hip against mine. I laughed and used my free hand to rub his arm. We soon found a nice spot, laid out the blanket, and sat down. Shawn took out what he had packed: water, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and green grapes.

"I have a question for you." I said after a little bit of eating.

"What's up?" Shawn asked.

"So, in one of your question and answer sessions from before we met, one of your fans asked you what your definition of love is, and you said that it's when you look at someone and love someone for no reason. But that was before we met. So, has your definition of love changed since we met?" I asked. Shawn's eyes widened as he nodded.

"Definitely!" He said. I smiled.

"Well what is it?" I asked. He put his sandwich down and made a 'come hither' motion at me with his index finger. I giggled and scooted closer to him. I nestled myself into his side, his arms wrapping around me as I nuzzled my face in his neck for a moment before picking my head up and resting my cheek on his shoulder so I could look at his gorgeously handsome face. One of his big hands held my hand while his other hand rubbed my back.

"My definition of love, now that we met... I would define love as when I wake up in the morning, and your head is on my chest, and the sunlight is coming in and it hits your face perfectly, and you glow. Everytime that I wake up to you like that, you take my breath away, and I always think about the fact that I'm the luckiest man alive to be able to spend forever with you. I would define love as the fact that your body fits perfectly next to mine and our hands fit perfectly together. I love you so much." Shawn said. I placed my lips on his in a passionate kiss.

"I love you too. That was beautiful." I said. Shawn kissed my forehead.

"How would you define love?" Shawn asked me. I smiled and turned my body more towards his and held his hands in mine.

"I would define love as us. I would define love as that time that I watched a video of you with little kids over and over and then Facetimed you telling you that I wanted to have your babies. I would define love as the little moments between us, the little touches, the big moments, and everything in between. My love, I am completely devoted to you, completely yours, always and forever." I said as I cupped his face in my hands. His smile was soft and loving, just like the kiss he gave me a moment later.

"Darling?" He asked.

"Hmmm?" I responded.

"Stay with me forever." He said. I nodded and kissed his nose.

"That was already the plan baby." I said. He smiled wider and kissed me again. We finished our picnic a bit later.

"Ready for our next adventure?" Shawn asked.

"Where are we going?" I asked. Shawn just smiled at me and didn't say anything. I shook my head at him. We got in the car and after a bit of driving, we arrived at Nathan Phillips Square. We got out and walked around a bit. Shawn and I got our picture taken in front of the big TORONTO sign, and then we walked around some more.

"Would you like some ice cream?" Shawn asked me. I immediately got excited.

"Yes!" I said. Shawn chuckled.

"Come on baby. Let's get you some ice cream." He said. He took me to a place called Bang Bang Ice Cream where I got a cookie dough flavored ice cream sandwich, and Shawn got a cheesecake flavored ice cream sandwich. We sat down to eat.

"I'm so excited for this." I said. Shawn chuckled, took out his phone, and aimed it at me. I took a bite of the ice cream sandwich and my eyes widened at the delicious taste. Shawn laughed.

"Do you like it baby?" He asked. I nodded and Shawn smiled back before putting his phone down. He showed me the video that he had just taken of me taking a bite of the ice cream sandwich. "Mind if I post it on my Instagram story?" He asked. I shook my head.

"No, that's fine." I said. Shawn posted the video and then dug into his ice cream sandwich. After we ate, we went back to his place and relaxed together, cuddling on the couch.

June 27, 2021

I woke up in the morning, my head on my boyfriend's bare chest. I stretched my legs under the blankets, remembering the intimacy we shared before bed the night before. I smiled when I felt Shawn's thumb rubbing my shoulder. I picked my head up to look at his handsome face.

"Good morning handsome." I said.

"Good morning gorgeous. You know, I'm pretty sure the view I have is the most incredible view in the world." Shawn said with a smirk.

"And why is that?" I asked even though I was pretty sure it was because I was naked.

"Because with the way you're laying on me, not only can I see your boobs, but I can feel them too." Shawn said. I gently swatted at his chest as I blushed, causing him to laugh.

"Last night was great by the way." I said as I put my chin back on his chest. He smiled at me as he rubbed my back.

"It really was. Happy year and a half anniversary darling." He said. My smile widened.

"Happy year and a half anniversary Shawny baby." I said.

"Come here." Shawn said as he gently pulled me up to him. We kissed before spending a couple of hours in bed focusing on each other. When we got up, we showered together, dried off, and got dressed. I put on a striped shirt and light blue jeans. Shawn was wearing a shirt that I had gotten him that was pink and said "BE NICE" on it, with some gray shorts.

"You look very handsome, my love." I said. Shawn gently grabbed my face and kissed me.

"And you look very beautiful." He said. I blushed at his words.

"It's been a year and a half since we started dating and almost two years since we met and I still blush whenever you compliment me. Do you mind if I post something for our anniversary?" I asked.

"No that's fine sweetheart." He said. I kissed him and then sat down on the couch.

I posted the picture that my mom had taken of him and I the day he asked me to be his girlfriend, I was holding the pink peonies that he had given me while his arm was around my waist and we smiled at each other. I posted ten pictures in total, all of them pictures from throughout our relationship, obviously. One of them from the year before, our foreheads resting together as we smiled at each other. Another one was of Shawn kissing my forehead, my eyes closed in contentedness. The last one was a recent one. Miranda had taken it last month. Shawn was lifting me up, my arms wrapped around his shoulders as we smiled and giggled, beyond happy and in love. I wrote the caption.

"A year and a half ago this incredible man showed up at my front door with a bouquet of my favorite flowers and asked me to be his girlfriend. Saying yes to him was the best decision I've ever made. A lot of people have assumed that Shawn has given me the life that I've always wanted, which is true. However, when people assume that this is due to the gifts he gives me, the material things, that's false. Yes, he's given me the life I've always wanted, because he's given me a life filled with endless love, joy, happiness, smiles, laughter, a life that is never boring and always filled with adventure and fun.

"A year and a half has gone by since he asked me to be his girlfriend and I still blush every time he compliments me, I still feel my heart race like crazy when we kiss, I still feel butterflies when I see him, I still feel excitement when we touch, just like the first time he grabbed my hand on our second date. I'm the luckiest girl in the world to be in love with my best friend, my soulmate, my life partner, and to have those feelings reciprocated back to me.

"Happy anniversary Shawny! I love you so much baby. Thank you for being my rock, my best friend, my everything. Thank you for loving me, accepting me and choosing me again and again, everyday. Thank you for all of the back rubs, foot massages, date nights, and millions of other things you do for me. Life with you is incredible and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us, my love. A year and a half down, forever to go!" I captioned it before posting it. Shawn saw it, liked it right away, and read it.

"That's beautiful darling. I love it." He said. I leaned forward to kiss him.

"I love you." I said.

"I love you too. Mind if I post something about you too?" He asked. I shook my head.

"No." I said. I kissed him one more time before leaning back on the couch. I watched him as he made his post, and then got a notification when he made it, so I went to Instagram. He had posted a picture of us from the month before. It was a selfie that we had taken during our picnic.

"Happy year and a half anniversary to the love of my life, my sweet Y/n girl! Darling, you have changed my life in so many ways and I can never thank you enough for your constant love, support, and encouragement. You have brought so much light and love into my life and I thank God everyday that you're my girl. I truly don't know what I would do without you but I know that I'm never going to have to figure that out. Thank you for constantly inspiring me, not just with my music, but also to be the best version of myself that I can be. I love you so much baby girl! Happy anniversary, here's to a lifetime more together." Shawn captioned it. I liked the post and commented some heart emojis on it.

"Shawn?" I asked.

"Yes darling?" He asked me.

"Can we cuddle right now? I just want to be close to you right now." I asked. Shawn smiled at me and gently cupped my face in his hands. His left hand stayed on my cheek as he used his right hand to tuck some hair behind my ear. I closed my eyes as he placed his warm lips on my forehead.

"We can cuddle all day if you want, but I'm taking you out for dinner tonight. Come here sweetheart." Shawn said before leaning back on the couch. I curled myself into his side, putting my head on his chest, wrapping my arm around his torso. I felt so relaxed as he wrapped his arms around me, holding me in his safe and loving embrace.

"I love you." I said as he kissed the top of my head.

"I love you too baby girl." He said. We cuddled until it was time to leave, and then Shawn took me to dinner for our anniversary. I'm the luckiest girl in the world to be with Shawn, my best friend, and to have so much quality time with him.
