December thirty first, 2019

Shawn's point of view

I sat on the couch in my girlfriend's bedroom. Y/n Y/l/n and I just started dating nine days ago on December twenty second, but we've known each other for four months. We met this past August when I was here in Boston on tour, and it was definitely love at first sight. I have yet to tell Y/n I love her, it's too soon for that.

"I hope you like my outfit tonight." Y/n said as she sat down next to me. Tonight we're going to her next door neighbor's house to celebrate the new year. It's only going to be a few of us, people that Y/n trusts which is good considering the fact that we have yet to go public with our relationship. After we celebrate the new year, Y/n and I are going to head back to my hotel room and relax.

"You're going to look absolutely beautiful no matter what." I said, causing her to blush, which of course made me chuckle. Later on, I went to get changed in the other room as Y/n got dressed too. I put on black dress pants, a white button down shirt and some nice boots. I went in the living room to wait for my girl. Soon, she stepped out wearing a blush jumpsuit with stars on it and blush colored flats with a heart necklace. I let my eyes wander over her as my jaw went to the floor. I had never seen her dressed up, and she looked absolutely gorgeous, stunning, breathtaking, every nice word ever.

"Shawn? How do I look?" Y/n asked.

"Wow." I said, causing her to laugh.

"You look really good babe." She said as she walked up to me and put her hands on my chest. I put my hands on her waist and rested my forehead on hers.

"You're the most gorgeous woman in the world." I said.

"You're the most handsome man in the world." She said. I kissed her forehead before speaking again.

"Thank you darling. Are you ready to go?" I asked. She nodded and we said goodbye to her mom before holding hands and walking next door. I was going to be meeting everyone for the first time so Y/n filled me in on everyone as we walked over.

"Johnny and I tease each other a lot, so if you hear us yelling at each other, we're just joking around. Liz and Tommy flew in from Virginia and got here yesterday. Kristen is Johnny's girlfriend, she's going to be here, and Johnny's parents, Dave and Anna are probably going to be here too. Either that or they're in New Hampshire." Y/n said. I nodded.

"Got it." I said before taking a deep breath. Y/n, sensing my nerves, squeezed my hand.

"You're going to do great baby, I promise. Just be yourself." She said. I nodded and she rang the doorbell. An older male opened the door and smiled at us.

"Hi guys, come on in." He said. We walked in and he gave Y/n a hug and kiss on the cheek before turning to me. "You must be Shawn. I'm Dave." He said as we shook hands. I quickly remembered the fact that Dave is like a father to Y/n.

"Hi, nice to meet you Mr. Michaels." I said.

"Please, call me Dave." Dave said. I nodded and he led us to the kitchen. I met Anna before we went into the living room where there were two guys and a girl sitting on the couch.

"Hi bitch." One of the guys said to Y/n.

"Hi jerk." Y/n said back to him before they hugged. This must Johnny. Before Y/n could introduce him, he turned to me with a big smile on his face.

"So you're Shawn! Dude, your girlfriend here has had a crush on you for millennials." He said. Y/n, and the people on the couch burst out laughing.

"You mean millennia?" Y/n asked as she laughed.

"Oh, yeah, that." Johnny said. I laughed too.

"Yeah, nice to meet you." I said.

"Babe, this is Liz and Tommy, guys, this is Shawn." Y/n said.

"You know, Johnny's right. I remember when Y/n first started watching your vines." Liz said.

"Listen, just because you guys have known me for a long time -" Y/n started.

"Since the womb." Johnny said.

"Yes, since the womb Johnny, it doesn't mean you guys have to embarrass me." Y/n said. Liz and Johnny looked at each other before shrugging.

"I wish I had that Viva Las Vegas video." Liz said. Y/n laughed before turning to me with a big smile on her face.

"Liz and I used to dance to that game, what was it, dance dance revolution? There's a video somewhere of us dancing to Elvis Presley's Viva Las Vegas." Y/n said. I smiled.

"I want to see that video." I said.

"Hi guys!" Someone said. We looked over to see a blonde girl walking in. Johnny gave her a kiss and I realized it was Kristen, who then turned to us.

"Kristen, this is my boyfriend, Shawn." Y/n said.

"Hi nice to meet you." She said.

"Nice to meet you too." I said. She then turned to Y/n and leaned in a bit.

"Did it work?" Kristen asked her. Y/n smiled and nodded.

"Yup." She said.

"Come on guys, let's go downstairs!" Johnny yelled. As everyone began to go downstairs, I gently grabbed Y/n's hand and she looked at me.

"Did what work?" I asked as I nodded my head towards Kristen. Her face turned red.

"She helped me pick out this outfit. I wanted something that would impress you so I asked her to take me shopping and she did." Y/n said. I smiled at her and gave her a kiss.

"You could impress me just by wearing sweats. You don't need to get all dressed up to impress me, baby." I said.

"Really?" She asked. I chuckled and nodded before kissing her lips.

"Really. Now come on, let's go downstairs." I said. She nodded and held my hands as we went down the stairs into Johnny's parent's finished basement.

"Okay, we have a few hours until midnight, and I made a playlist. Should I just hit shuffle?" Johnny asked. We all nodded.

"Yeah." We all said. The first song to play was There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back, my song. Y/n let out a little scream of excitement as Johnny put both hands up as if he were surrendering.

"Dude, I totally didn't know that was going to happen." He said. I laughed and waved my hand.

"It's fine." I said. Y/n was already dancing with Liz and Kristen. I smiled as I watched her look at me, a huge smile on her face. She held her hand out for me to take and we danced together. Y/n knew all of the words, of course, and she was very happy to just jump and spin around to the song. It made me happy to see her so happy because of my music. The song came to an end and How Far I'll Go by Alessia Cara started playing. Y/n looked at me.

"Do you know this song? I know some of it." She asked. I nodded.

"I know some of it too." I said. As the chorus came along, everyone in the room sang along to it. More songs continued to play and I smiled as I saw my girlfriend in a way that I had never seen her before. I hung back a bit as I watched her with Liz and Kristen, the music playing from speakers in the basement. Y/n had taken off her flats and was having a good time singing along to Take Me To Church by Hozier.

"You love her, don't you?" I heard someone ask. I looked next to me and saw Johnny. I nodded.

"Yeah. From the moment I laid eyes on her I've loved her. I haven't told her that though, it's too soon. I have no clue if she feels the same way or not." I said as I looked at Y/n. Her smile practically lit up the room.

"I know if she feels the same way or not, and it's not my place to tell you how she feels, but I will say this: don't be afraid to tell her how you feel. If you're not ready to tell her, that's fine, but don't be afraid. I wish you could've seen the look on her face when she would talk about you even before you guys met." Johnny said. I nodded.

"She's beautiful, and she's got a good heart and a good soul. Honestly... she's the one." I said as I continued to smile at her. She looked at me and waved, a huge smile on her face. I waved back. When the song ended and Mercy started playing, Y/n looked at me.

"Baby, this is my jam!" She said. I laughed and watched as she jumped up and down and spun around, tilting her head back to sing the lyrics with Liz and Kristen. I took my phone out and recorded Y/n singing along. When the song came to an end, I stopped recording, and Y/n came and sat on my lap.

"You sounded wonderful darling." I said. She put her bum and her legs in my lap as I wrapped my arms around her waist and she wrapped her arms around my shoulders. I felt her place a kiss on my temple.

"Thank you baby. I love Mercy! If you ever take it off the set list when you're on tour, I'll cry." She said. I chuckled as I began to rub her back a bit.

"Then I'll play it when I'm eighty. How does that sound?" I asked. She smiled at me and I swear her smile could end everything bad in the world.

"It sounds perfect to me." She said before kissing my nose. I smiled at her and kissed her lips.

"Are you excited to be my New Years kiss?" I asked. Her smile widened and she nodded her head, her locks of y/h/c bouncing at the same time that her fingers tangled into my brown locks.

"Yes! I was thinking about that, and I think we should start kissing when the countdown gets to three, and then keep kissing after they say happy New Year. How does that sound?" She asked. My eyes flicked down to her lips before they went back up to her eyes.

"Sounds perfect." I said before kissing her lips. She pulled away after a little bit.

"I like this song." She said. I listened to it. It was Meant To Be by Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line. Y/n gave me a smile and it somehow clicked in my head: she wants me to listen to this song. This is for us. I gave her a kiss on the chin and sang along, which made her smile widen. Slow Hands by Niall Horan started playing and Y/n got off my lap but waved for me to come to her. I smiled at her.

"Should we dance baby?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah." She said. Her arms wrapped around my shoulders and I wrapped my arms around her waist. I rested my forehead against her as we danced to the song and I sang it to her. She smiled at me and we kept kissing and dancing. It was like we were the only people in the room and when her hands moved to my chest, my breath got caught in my throat as I stared at her. I kissed her deeply.

"All right you two, there are other people here." Johnny yelled. Y/n and I pulled away, our faces red from embarrassment. We looked at each other and laughed a bit before sitting on the couch. Well, I sat on the couch, and Y/n sat on my lap.

"So tonight will be our first time sleeping in the same bed." She pointed out as she rested her head on my shoulder. I nodded.

"That's right. Are you excited?" I asked. I felt her head nod against my shoulder.

"Yeah. Are you?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yeah." I said. We stayed on the couch, talking for a bit longer. After a little bit, Y/n and I got up and danced and sang some more. After a little bit, My Way by Frank Sinatra started playing.

"Y/n, I put Frank Sinatra on the playlist because I know you love him." Johnny said. Y/n, a few months away from turning twenty one, grabbed a beer bottle, and instead of drinking it, she used it as a microphone. I smiled, laughed, and clapped as she lip synced along to her favorite song. I took my phone out and recorded her. She lip synced some more, and then curtsied when the song ended. I ended that video but when the next song, That's Life by Frank Sinatra, started playing, I took another video of her.

"You're so damn cute." I said to her after I finished recording her when the song ended. She laughed and gave me a kiss. Long Live by Taylor Swift started playing, which got Liz very excited.

"Liz, have you told Shawn what your cat's full name is?" Y/n asked. I was standing behind Y/n, my arms around her waist, my head on her shoulder.

"Grace Swift." Liz said. I chuckled.

"And why is that her name?" Y/n asked.

"Because Taylor Swift is my God." Liz said. I cracked up laughing.

"I completely get that." I said. Liz laughed before going to her husband, Tommy. I kissed Y/n's cheek as she relaxed into me more.

"Are you having fun honey?" She asked, and I couldn't help but smile even wider when I heard her call me honey.

"Definitely. What about you? Are you having fun sweetheart?" I asked. She nodded her head.

"Yeah. I always have fun with you. Can we sway? I want to sway with you." She said. I kissed her cheek and began to sway us from side to side.

"How's this?" I whispered in her ear before kissing her ear. She giggled.

"Good but that tickled." She said. I kissed her ear some more, causing her to laugh like crazy. I've heard tons of songs, tons of sounds in my life, but the greatest sound I've ever heard is definitely my girl's laugh, I'll do anything to hear it. She tilted her head back as she laughed and I kept her in my arms, which she eventually squirmed out of and looked at me, out of breath from laughing. I smiled at her. "You tickled me!"

"Sorry darling, but your laugh is the greatest thing I've ever heard." I said as I gently grabbed her wrists and pulled her closer to me. She put her hands on my cheeks and gave me a kiss.

"You're a wonderful human being Shawn Mendes." She said. I wrapped my arms around her waist, picked her up, and spun her around a bit.

"If you guys keep this up I'm going to barf." Johnny yelled.

"Look away buddy." Y/n said as she looked at him and waved him away, causing us all to laugh. Johnny stuck his tongue out at Y/n, and she did the same to him. A few more songs played before Come Away With Me by Norah Jones started to play. I knew it was a love song, and I knew that Y/n knew that too when she smiled at me and wrapped her arms around my shoulders. I wrapped my arms around her waist, rested my head on her forehead, and we swayed from side to side as the song went on.

"I really like dancing with you." I said.

"I really like dancing with you too. Um, I don't know if this is a good time to ask, but is my stuff in your rental car?" She asked. I chuckled and nodded.

"Yeah, it is." I said before twirling her. She smiled at me and Amazed by Lonestar started playing. I kept my eyes locked with her as we danced. I kissed her before we continued to dance some more. "Did you know that I'm amazed by you?" I asked her. She looked surprised.

"Really?" She asked. I nodded.

"Of course I am. You're a very strong girl - a strong woman. I know that I don't know all of your stories, but I want to know all of them. Any story you want to tell me, I want to hear. I want to hear all of your stories, I hope you know that. Even if it's the middle of the night and you wake me up to tell me a story, do it. I'll gladly listen to whatever story you want me to hear. I'm always going to be here for you baby girl, I want you to know that." I said. Y/n gave me a kiss on the lips as she held my face.

"When we go back to your hotel tonight, can we stay up? I want to tell you some stories." She asked and said. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course you can sweetheart." I said.

"Hey lovebirds, the countdown is starting!" Johnny yelled. Y/n looked at him and then back at me. When the countdown got to three, we locked lips and didn't stop until we couldn't possibly kiss anymore. I smiled at Y/n and she smiled back.

"Guys, let's take a group picture!" Liz yelled. I took my phone out and we all huddled together in a selfie.

"I'll send that Y/n and then she can send it to you guys. Does that sound okay?" I asked.

"Why don't we all just trade numbers?" Tommy asked, so we all traded numbers and made a group chat named "The Crew". Soon after that, Y/n and I left to go to my hotel room. We walked into my room and Y/n turned to me and placed her hands on my chest as I placed my hands on her waist.

"Shawn, can we, um, I'm still not ready to do sexual things, but can we, um, sorry." She said as her face turned red. I kissed her forehead.

"It's just me darling. You don't need to be embarrassed, you can ask me anything." I said. She looked at me and nodded as we locked eyes.

"Can we make out?" She asked. I nodded as I smiled.

"Hell yeah we can. Come here baby." I said as I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her closer to me. She wrapped her arms around my shoulders and we began to make out. I wanted to move my hands around but I didn't know if that was okay. As if she read my mind, Y/n pulled away and nudged my nose with hers.

"You can move your hands around if you want." She said before kissing me again. My hands started moving and it was like they couldn't stop. I let my hands roam all around her back and the side of her body. We soon had to pull away to catch our breaths.

"Y/n." I said before kissing her cheek. She massaged the back of my head as I kissed down her cheek, her neck and to her shoulder. I picked my head up and looked at her with a smile, which she returned.

"Hi." She whispered.

"Hi. Do you still want to stay up?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah, is that okay?" She asked. I nodded.

"Of course. Let's get changed into pajamas and then we'll stay up and talk. What did you want to talk about?" I asked as I started walking to my suitcases.

"Well, you said you wanted to hear my stories, and since I'm twenty, almost twenty one, I've got a lot of them and I thought I would share some with you. Would you like that?" She asked. I nodded.

"I would love that." I said.

"Good, alright, well I'll get changed into my pajamas and then we'll have story time." She said. I chuckled and nodded. She changed in the bathroom while I got changed in the bedroom and when she came out, she told me stories about her life for a bit before we went to bed. I love Y/n so much and I'm so happy that we had such a great first New Years together.
