188. "Hi Rose, How Did You Get In There?"

I woke up in the morning and smiled at the sight in front of me. My husband of about four years, Shawn Mendes, was asleep, his handsome face facing me. Today is his second Father's Day. We have two kids: Rose Lucille Mendes, who's two and a half, and Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes, who's thirteen months old. My smile widened as I stared at my husband and thought about how far we've come in our relationship. I looked down at my beautiful wedding ring and then back at Shawn. I finally decided to get up and check on the kids.

I went down the hall and into Jake's room. His door was already open, which was weird because I know that Shawn and I shut it almost all the way last night. I stepped into his room, looked into his big crib and gasped. The sight I saw was a beautiful one. Somehow, big sister Rose had crawled into her little brother's bed and they were cuddled up to each other. I tiptoed out of the room and back into mine and Shawn's room. Shawn, in his sleep, had rolled over onto his back. I placed my hands on his shirtless chest and gently began to shake him.

"Shawn. Shawn. Shawny baby, wake up. Come on, wake up." I said. Finally, his eyes snapped open.

"Huh? What's going on? Are you okay?" He asked. I nodded.

"I'm great, happy Father's Day, now come on, I have to show you something." I said. Shawn nodded and got out of bed. I grabbed my phone and then held my husband's hand as I led him into Jake's room. I pointed at the crib and I saw his eyes widened at the sight.

"Oh my gosh." He whispered as a smile spread across his face. I nodded and took out my phone, snapped a quick picture, put my phone in my pocket, and then wrapped my arms around my husband. I looked at Shawn.

"How did she get in there?" I asked in a whisper. Shawn pointed at something that, for some reason, I didn't notice.

"The stool. She must've snuck in here with the stool." Shawn whispered back. I rested my head on his chest and he rubbed my back as we looked at the precious moment. I looked up at Shawn and smiled at him. He looked at our kids, a loving smile on his face before smiling at me. He kissed my forehead.

"I love you Mr. Mendes." I said.

"I love you too Mrs. Mendes." He said. We turned back to our kids. Rose began to move around a bit before her eyes fluttered open. She looked at her brother and then up at her Daddy and I. Shawn and I waved at our little girl.

"Hi Rose, how did you get in there?" I asked in a quiet voice so I wouldn't wake up Jake. Rose sat up and Shawn leaned in and scooped her into his arms.

"I snuck in." Rose said, apparently not quiet enough because Jake then began to stir and then cry.

"Shhh, Momma's here." I said as I picked him up. He almost instantly stopped crying. I gave him a kiss on his forehead.

"Mama. Dada." He said. I smiled at him.

"That's right." I said. I smiled at Shawn, who was also smiling at Jake.

"Come on, let's go downstairs." Shawn said. I nodded and followed him. We all sat down, Rose on Shawn's lap, Jake on my lap. Rose wriggled herself off of Shawn's lap and began to run around in circles in our living room. Jake seemed to be absolutely fascinated by my hair.

"Hey Rosie, do you want to explain to Daddy and I how you got in Bubba's crib?" I asked. Rose stopped spinning and went up to Shawn. She crawled into his lap and he helped her get comfortable before she looked at me.

"I got out of my bed, and, and then I got the stool and I climbed into Bubba's crib. I didn't want him to be lonely." Rose said. My heart melted and I looked at Shawn. By the look on his face, I could tell that his heart had also melted. He gave Rose a kiss on the cheek and rubbed her back.

"You're a good big sister Rosie." He said. She smiled at her Daddy before standing up on his lap and facing him. Shawn held her little waist so she wouldn't fall as she put her hands on his cheeks and squished his face.

"You're squishy Daddy!" She said with a giggle. Shawn laughed.

"And you're acting like your mother." Shawn said, causing me to laugh. It was true, I used to sit on his lap and just squish his face all of the time because I thought it was funny. Rose giggled and then began to play with Shawn's hair. I then realized that the kids hadn't wished Shawn a happy Father's Day.

"Rose, Jake, do you know what today is?" I asked. Rose shook her head.

"No." She said.

"Baba baba." Jake said.

"Today is Father's Day! Can you say happy Father's Day to daddy?" I asked.

"Dada! Dada!" Jake yelled. Shawn reached over and rubbed Jake's cheek and the two of them smiled at each other. I smiled at my boys. Jake was a spitting image of his father, the curls, the eyes and everything.

"Thanks buddy." Shawn said to Jake.

"Happy Father's Day Daddy!" Rose yelled even though she was right in front of Shawn. Shawn chuckled and smiled at his little girl.

"Thank you sweet pea." Shawn said. Rose threw her arms around Shawn's neck in a hug and he hugged her back of course. She stayed like that for a little bit so I took out my phone to snap a picture. Shawn smiled at me when he saw what I was doing. He pointed at me. "Rose, look at Momma." He said. I snapped a few precious pictures as Rose smiled at me and then laughed like crazy while Shawn kissed her cheek repeatedly. He turned to her and puckered up his lips. I snapped a picture as they kissed and hugged.

"You guys are precious. Jake, do you want photos with Daddy?" I asked.

"Dada!" Jake said. Shawn smiled before picking up Rose and putting her on the floor. Shawn picked Jake up off my lap and put Jake on his lap. Shawn pointed on my phone.

"Look at Momma." Shawn said but Jake just looked at his Daddy instead. I laughed but still took pictures.

"I get it Jake, I do. You're Daddy's really good looking." I said. Shawn laughed.

"Jake, right there is your Momma, the most beautiful woman in the universe, the most beautiful woman to ever exist, you should look at her. She gave birth to you." Shawn said. Jake finally looked at me and I took some pictures of my boys.

"Beautiful!" I said. Shawn gave Jake a kiss on the head. Shawn helped Jake stand up on his lap and, just like he had done with Rose, Shawn puckered up his lips and Jake gave him a kiss and a hug.

"That's my boy. Rose, come here, I want a picture with both of my kids - our kids." Shawn said as he looked over at me. I nodded.

"Yes, our kids." I said with a smile. Rose climbed onto Shawn's back so Jake was on his lap and Rose was behind him. I snapped a couple of pictures before Rose moved so her and Jake could both fit onto Shawn's lap, and then I took pictures of the three of them.

"Hey guys, let's get a picture with Mommy in it. Do you guys want to do a selfie?" Shawn asked. The kids nodded.

"Yeah!" Rose said as Jake babbled. I smiled as Shawn turned to me.

"Our children have spoken. Come here my love." Shawn said. I smiled wider and scooted closer to him. Shawn took my phone, I held Jake on my lap and leaned on Shawn as he held Rose. We all smiled as Shawn took some selfies.

"Perfect." I said.

"I'm hungry." Rose said.

"How about you play with your brother while Momma and I make breakfast?" Shawn asked. Rose nodded as she wriggled herself off of Shawn's lap.

"Okay." Rose said. Shawn and I put Jake and Rose in their playpen with their toys where we could see them, and went into the kitchen.

"Should we make pancakes?" I asked.

"Definitely. Hey, come here wifey." Shawn said. I looked at him as he smiled at me. I walked over to him and he instantly hugged me.

"I love you." I said.

"I love you too. I haven't kissed you yet today." Shawn said. Before I could respond, he placed a beautiful kiss on my lips. We eventually pulled away, he kissed my forehead, and we began to make the pancakes.

"I'm going to make some scrambled eggs for Jake." I said. Shawn nodded and reached over to rub my back a little bit.

"Okay sweetheart." Shawn said. I began to make the eggs, but would glance over at the kids every once in a while.

"We made some great kids, didn't we Mr. Mendes?" I asked as I stood next to Shawn. He smiled at me.

"We really did Mrs. Mendes. How about we make another one?" Shawn asked.

"What?" I asked, almost dropping the egg on the floor.

"Let's make another baby. We've always said that we wanted three kids, so let's just have one more and then we'll stop. I love having kids with you, plus I love what we do to make the kids." Shawn said as he wiggled his eyebrows at me. I giggled and blushed before swatting at his arm.

"You're crazy." I said.

"Yeah, crazy in love with my wife. So what do you say babe? Want to make another baby with me?" Shawn asked. I looked at the eggs for a moment before looking at my husband and nodding.

"Yeah. Let's make another baby." I said. Shawn's smile widened.

"Yes!" He cheered before picking me up and spinning me around. I laughed and he set me down, held my face in his big hands, and kissed me.

"I love you, but we should make breakfast for the kids that are already here." I said. Shawn nodded, a huge smile on his face.

"Yeah. I love you too. How about the kids go to your mom's this weekend?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Okay." I said.

"I hope it's a girl." Shawn said. I giggled.

"I'm not even pregnant yet." I said.

"Yeah, but I hope that when you do get pregnant, it's a girl." Shawn said. I nodded, wanting the same thing.

"Julia Kennedy Mendes if it's a girl, right?" I asked, remembering the name that we had picked out years ago when we first started to talk about our future. Shawn nodded.

"Yup, and Asher Mendes if it's a boy. We'll figure out the middle name if it turns out to be a boy." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Daddy, I'm hungry." Rose said.

"It's coming princess, I'm almost done." Shawn said.

"Okay." She said.

"You're an incredible father by the way. I just wanted to remind you of that." I said as I finished making scrambled eggs. I began to make it into small pieces for Jake, cutting it with the side of the fork.

"Thank you for saying that baby. You're an incredible mother and you did an incredible job carrying them in your stomach and you were so strong in labor with them. I'm so proud of you sweetheart." Shawn said. I smiled at him, happy tears in my eyes, and kissed his shoulder since I couldn't reach his cheek. Shawn and I got Jake and Rose and we sat at the table to have breakfast. I sat across from Shawn. I fed Jake, Rose was mostly feeding herself, and Shawn was eating while watching the three of us. I finished feeding Jake and began to eat the pancakes that Shawn had made for me. I turned my body and looked at my husband, a framed picture from our wedding behind him.

"We've come a long way, haven't we, my love?" I asked. He nodded at me as he smiled.

"We sure have, and we're going to go so much farther." Shawn said. I smiled and nodded. Later on, I posted some of the pictures that I had taken earlier on Instagram and wished Shawn a happy Father's Day. That weekend we sent the kids to my mom's house, and nine months later, Julia Kennedy Mendes was born, completing our family. I love Shawn, and our kids, so much.
