169. It's Your 21st Birthday

A/n: So, it is not my birthday, but I've had this idea stuck in my head for a bit, and I decided to write about it. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine. Okay, without further ado, let's begin!

"Your birthday is next week, my love. You're going to be twenty one! What do you want to do? Where do you want to go?" Shawn Mendes, my boyfriend of a little over three months asked me as we talked over the phone. I smiled at his enthusiasm as he talked about my birthday.

"I don't know where I want to go. I mean, aren't our options on where we can go a bit limited because we haven't gone public yet?" I asked. When I was at his place in Toronto the month before, we were spotted by a couple of fans who took some pictures and videos of us. Shawn followed my private Instagram and ever since then I have been getting a lot of requests for people to follow me, which I just ignore.

"Babe, it's your twenty first birthday. Let's not worry about getting caught. Let's just go out and be ourselves. If we want to hold hands or kiss or whatever it is, let's do it. You only turn twenty one once. Where do you want to go baby girl? You name it and I'll take you there." Shawn said. I smiled and then thought for a moment.

"Can we go to the park? I like the park with the big mansion on it, it's really peaceful and beautiful there and I want to show you my favorite spot." I asked and said.

"Of course we can go there. We can go wherever and do whatever you want." Shawn said.

"Thank you so much for this baby. What would we do if someone sees us and asks us if we're dating?" I asked.

"I'll just tell them that we're going to keep the answer to that between the two of us for now and that we're just there to celebrate your birthday." Shawn said. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Okay. I miss you. When are you going to get here? The night before my birthday?" I asked.

"I miss you too sweetheart. I'll get there the night before your birthday and we can fall asleep together again. I'll take you out for breakfast. Where do you want to go?" Shawn asked.

"Can we go to IHOP?" I asked.

"Of course we can sweetheart." Shawn said. I smiled and we talked for a bit longer before hanging up.

April 10, 2020

I sat on the couch in the living room, practically bouncing up and down with excitement. Even though I had seen Shawn only a few weeks before when I was at his place for spring break, being away from him while he was in the studio made me miss him a lot. My brother went to the airport to pick Shawn up. My mom walked into the room and laughed when she saw me.

"I take it you're excited to see your man again?" She asked. I smiled and nodded.

"Yup." I said. The door opened and Shawn walked in with a humongous smile on his face. He set his bags down and immediately opened up his arms. I jumped into his arms as my legs wrapped around his waist and my arms wrapped around his neck and shoulders. He put one arm on my back and the other arm went underneath my bum to hold me in place. He beamed a beautiful smile at me.

"Hello my beautiful girl." He said. Due to the fact that we were in front of my mom and my brother, Shawn quickly put me down and gave me a hug.

"Hello my handsome man. Are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Are you tired?" I asked. Shawn chuckled at all of my questions as he rubbed my back a little bit before kissing the top of my head.

"I'm okay, just a bit tired." Shawn said.

"Well, how about we put your suitcases in my room and then head to bed?" I asked. He nodded and then we brought his stuff into my room. We said good night to my mom and brother, and they let us shut the door most of the way. Shawn and I smiled at each other as he gently grabbed my waist and pulled me close to him. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, he wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my neck.

"I've missed you so much, my love." Shawn said, followed by a content sigh. I closed my eyes and began to rub the back of his head.

"I've missed you so much too baby. Let's get some rest now and tomorrow we'll spend the whole day together." I said.

"Can I just hold you for a little longer please? I've missed having my girl in my arms." Shawn asked and said. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course you can." I said.

"I love you." Shawn said as he began to softly rub my back. My smile widened and my heart fluttered at his words.

"I love you too." I said. Shawn and I stood there for a couple more minutes before he pulled away and yawned.

"Come on my love, let's go to bed." Shawn said. I nodded and we got into my bed. I put my head on his chest and my eyelids suddenly felt heavy.

"Good night Shawny. I love you." I said.

"Good night Y/n. I love you too." Shawn said. The next morning when I woke up, I felt Shawn rubbing his thumb on my shoulder, and he placed a gentle kiss on the top of my head. I kept my eyes closed, wanting to take this moment in for a little bit longer. Shawn's hand moved to my back and he rubbed my back. I couldn't hold back the smile that grew on my face as I lifted my head up and put my chin on his chest. He smiled at me and began to massage the back of my head.

"Good morning my sweet man." I said, causing his smile to grow.

"Good morning. Happy birthday baby girl." Shawn said. I smiled and moved myself up so I could kiss his cheek.

"Thank you. We should get up, shouldn't we?" I asked. Shawn held me closer to him and I couldn't help but smile.

"No, let's just lay here for a bit longer. I've missed having you in my arms." Shawn said. I nodded, sighed contently, and relaxed more into his arms. We laid there for a bit longer before getting up and getting ready for the day. My mom smiled when she saw us.

"Happy birthday Y/n!" She said.

"Thank you." I said as I gave her a hug. My brother came down the stairs and smiled at Shawn and I.

"Happy birthday Y/n." He said.

"Thank you." I said.

"So are you two going out to breakfast?" My mom asked. Shawn and I nodded.

"Yeah. I'm going to take the birthday girl to IHOP. That's where you want to go, right sweetheart?" Shawn asked. I nodded as I got my shoes on.

"Yeah." I said.

"Okay. Thomas, are you sure that it's okay to take your car?" Shawn asked as my brother handed him the key to his precious car that he named Rose.

"Of course. Just be careful with her, okay?" Thomas asked. Shawn chuckled and nodded.

"I'll be careful, I promise. Are you ready to go babe?" Shawn asked as he turned to me. I nodded as I held my hand out for him to take. We said goodbye to my mom and my brother and headed out to the car.

"Before we go, I haven't gotten to kiss you yet, and that's killing me." I said to Shawn when we got in the car. He chuckled and turned to me.

"Come here birthday girl, let's fix that. I can't have you dying on me, especially on your birthday." Shawn said with a smirk. I giggled and then put my lips on his. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. We soon pulled away and smiled at each other.

"That's much better." I said, causing Shawn to laugh. He put the car in reverse, and I gave him directions to the restaurant. I couldn't help but take out my phone and take a picture of our interlaced fingers as he drove along.

"We're here birthday girl." Shawn said as he pulled into a parking space. Even though it was early in the morning, the place was a bit busy. I looked at Shawn.

"Are we going to be okay? Like, are we going to act like ourselves even though it seems busy?" I asked Shawn as I looked around the busy parking lot and then at him. He gently squeezed my hand as he nodded.

"Of course we are baby. It's your birthday and you only turn twenty one once. If people take pictures of us, oh well. Come on, let's go inside." Shawn said. I nodded, and we got out of the car and went inside. We were soon seated and I noticed that a couple of people were already looking at us. Shawn didn't seem to notice, or if he did, he didn't care. I opened up my menu and started to look at it.

"Oh my gosh! The red velvet pancakes are back!" I said. Shawn looked up at me and smiled.

"Is that what you're going to get?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yes! I love red velvet!" I said as I closed my menu. Shawn chuckled at my enthusiasm as he looked at the menu.

"You're a silly girl babe. What should I get? What about the chocolate chip pancakes?" Shawn asked.

"I've had their chocolate chip pancakes and they're really good. Do you want to know what I do to my pancakes?" I asked with a smile as Shawn closed his menu. He rested his chin on his fist and smiled at me.

"What do you do to your pancakes baby girl?" Shawn asked.

"I drown them in syrup. Drown them." I said. Shawn tilted his head back with laughter and then reached his hand across the table to hold my hand. As our skin touched I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time. I smiled as Shawn began to rub the top of my hand with his thumb.

"So do you basically order syrup with a side of pancakes?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yup." I said. Soon, the waitress came over and took our order. Shawn and I talked as we waited for our food to arrive, and I rubbed the tops of his hands. I couldn't help but smile whenever he would kiss my hand. I tried to focus on Shawn even though I could see a couple of people looking at us out of the corner of my eye. After a little bit, our food arrived. I immediately cut up the pancakes and then started to pour syrup on my pancakes. Shawn stopped taking a bite of his pancakes and looked at me.

"Damn baby girl, you weren't kidding about the syrup. You're going to run out of syrup if you keep going like that." Shawn said. I laughed.

"It wouldn't be the first time. I'm done with the syrup for now." I said.

"For now? Oh gosh." Shawn said as I put away the syrup. I smiled and then dug into the pancakes. I hadn't had them in a while so I was really excited and started to smile and do a little dance in my seat, which made Shawn laugh.

"What? I'm really happy." I said.

"I can tell. I love seeing you so happy, my love." Shawn said. I smiled. We continued to talk more as we ate.

"You know what I'm really excited for?" I asked while taking a break from eating - if I kept eating I was going to get sick, and I definitely didn't want that.

"What is it babe?" Shawn asked as he set his fork down and smiled at me. His smile gave me butterflies and caused my own smile to grow.

"I'm excited for traveling with you eventually. I want to see lots of places with you babe." I said. Shawn's smile grew as he reached for my hands again.

"Where do you want to go with me darling?" Shawn asked.

"Everywhere! Oh my gosh. I want to go to Greece, Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Israel, oh and I want to see where my ancestors are from! They're from Lithuania and the Ukraine. I want to go everywhere with you." I said.

"Come here." Shawn said with a huge smile as he puckered up his lips and leaned across the table. I smiled and gave him a kiss before sitting back and admiring him for a moment.

"Would you want to travel the world with me?" I asked. Shawn nodded as he brought one of my hands up to his lips to kiss it. My heart fluttered at the gesture.

"I would absolutely love to travel with you sweetheart." Shawn said.

"You know, seeing the world with you would be a great thing, but just seeing you is a great thing." I said to my boyfriend and best friend. Shawn's smile widened and he gently squeezed my hands three times - one of our ways of saying I love you to each other - before I did it back.

"Are you done eating?" Shawn asked. I looked at my food and then nodded.

"Yeah. If I keep eating I'm going to get sick. But it was really good." I said. Shawn smiled as he let go of my hands and called over our waitress. We got to go boxes and Shawn got the receipt, which of course he wouldn't let me even see.

"Come on my lovely girl, let's get going." Shawn said after he paid. Even though there were definitely people looking, when he stood up, he immediately reached his hand out for mine. We interlaced our fingers, got our food which was boxed and then in a bag, and headed out to the car. Shawn, being the gentleman that he is, opened the door for me.

"Thank you baby. You're a true gentleman." I said. Shawn chuckled as he shut the door and then he put our food in the backseat. He got in, started the car, and then looked at me.

"Okay babe, how do we get to the park from here?" He asked.

"Uhhh, we're going to need the GPS because I have no clue." I said. Shawn laughed and took out his phone. I found the address of the park online and he put it into his phone before he began driving to my favorite park, the same park that I've been going to since I was little.

"I have a surprise for you later by the way." Shawn said.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?" He asked.

"Okay, good point. Oh my gosh I'm so excited for today!" I said. Shawn laughed as he took a turn onto another road.

"Good, that makes me happy to hear baby." Shawn said.

"Sometimes, people bring their horses to this park. Usually people bring their dogs, but make sure to ask the owner before you pet the dog, you don't know if it's friendly or not. Well, if it's at a park it's probably friendly. Anyways, I'm just really excited!" I said. Shawn laughed.

"I can tell. What do you want to do after the park? Is there a bookstore nearby that we can go to after the park?" Shawn asked. As soon as I heard the word bookstore, I immediately got excited and perked up.

"Bookstore? We can go to the bookstore?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"Of course we can. I want you to get as many books as you want and don't you dare worry about the prices because I've got it, okay? This is your birthday and I want you to be as happy as you can be." Shawn said. One of his hands was in my lap and I gently squeezed it as I looked at the side of his face.

"I don't need books to be happy, my love. I just need you." I said. Shawn's smile widened as he kissed my hand.

"I love you." Shawn said.

"I love you too. I won't get too many books, don't worry." I said.

"Get as many as you want, I don't care how much it costs." Shawn said.

"No, I can't do that to you. I'm not with you for your money Shawn, you know that. I don't care about the money. I'm with you because I love you for who you are." I said.

"I know that baby, I know that you're not with me for my money. Don't worry about it sweetheart." Shawn said.

"I can't do that to you Shawn." I said with a sigh.

"Baby girl, please. I'm really not worried about it. I don't care how many books you get, I'll cover it, and I don't want you looking at the price of anything today. When I go to pay for the books, I'll have you step outside, and I'll just make sure to get rid of the receipt so you can't see it. Don't worry about it baby. If I'm not worried about it, then you shouldn't worry about it either, okay?" He asked. I sighed, closed my eyes as I took a deep breath, and then nodded.

"Okay." I said as I opened my eyes.

"Thank you sweetie. We're here." Shawn said as we pulled into the parking lot. Any worry that I was feeling went away and was instantly replaced by excitement. A smile spread across my face, and as soon as Shawn had parked the car and turned it off, I unbuckled and stepped out.

"Come on babe!" I said with a smile as I held out my hand for Shawn to take. He smiled at me as he interlaced his fingers with mine again.

"So are we heading straight to your favorite spot?" Shawn asked as we began walking towards the main trail.

"Yup. It's a bit of a ways away, so it's a good thing that we wore our sneakers. If you had worn your boots you probably would've been uncomfortable." I said.

"Awww, is my girl worrying about my feet comfort level?" Shawn teased. I laughed and nodded as I blushed.

"Well of course I am. You're my man." I said.

"I love being your man. I can't wait until we go public so I can tell everybody in the world that I'm Y/n Y/l/n's man." Shawn said. I smiled at him as we continued to walk. Since I had been coming to the park for so long, I knew a little bit of history about it and about the family that owned it, which I randomly started telling Shawn. I then stopped talking and looked at him.

"Am I boring you with these random facts?" I asked. He stopped walking and pulled me close to him.

"Nope, not at all. I love it." Shawn said before kissing me. I smiled at him and then we went down a rock staircase and saw the mini man made waterfall that was there.

"Wait, babe, stand in front of that little waterfall, I want to take some pictures of you." I said. Shawn smiled and stood in front of the waterfall as I took pictures.

"I love them. Maybe while we're here we can have someone take pictures of the both of us." Shawn said as I showed him the pictures that I had just taken of him. I nodded, knowing that for today, we would just focus on each other and not worry about getting caught.

"Yeah. Come here, I want to show you something." I said excitedly. Shawn chuckled as I took his hand.

"Okay babe." He said. We walked a few steps and took a turn. I then pointed at a rock that was in the shape of a couch.

"Look at this! It looks like it belongs on the Flintstones." I said. Shawn laughed and nodded as he moved to sit on it.

"Oh my gosh babe, you're right. Come here, come sit on this Flintstones couch with me." Shawn said. I smiled and sat next to him. He put his arm around my shoulder and I instinctively leaned my head on his chest.

"I love you Shawn." I said as I looked up at him. He smiled at me as he rubbed my cheek with his thumb.

"I love you too Y/n. Come give me a kiss." Shawn said. I sat up and put my lips on his. We were under a canopy, and not a lot of people were around. We didn't let the kiss get too heated. When we pulled away from the kiss, I put my hand on his cheek, rubbed it with my thumb, and placed a gentle kiss on the other side of his cheek.

"I adore you, my love." I whispered before placing another kiss on his cheek. His smile widened as he rubbed my back.

"I adore you too darling." Shawn said. I kissed his lips gently and lovingly a few times, hoping he knew just how grateful I felt that he was here to celebrate my birthday with me.

"Should we keep going to my favorite spot?" I asked.

"One more kiss, and then we'll go." Shawn said.

"Why do I have the feeling that it's going to be more than just one kiss?" I asked. Shawn chuckled.

"You're probably right. Come here." Shawn said before kissing me. I could tell that he was trying to put all of his love into this kiss. We soon pulled away and I stood up.

"Come on my handsome man." I said. Shawn stood up too and wrapped his arms around my waist as I wrapped my arms around his neck and shoulders.

"Have I told you how beautiful you look today? I don't think I have, but you're looking very beautiful baby, just like always." He said. I blushed at his words. I was wearing black leggings and a black t-shirt.

"You haven't told me that yet today but thank you. You look good too babe." I said. Shawn was wearing black skinny jeans, just like always, and his live aid t-shirt. Shawn smiled at me, dropped his arms from around my waist, and held my hand in his.

"Thank you sweetheart. Alright, where are we going?" Shawn asked. I pointed.

"This way!" I said.

"Lead the way." Shawn said. I smiled and brought Shawn over to where the family's pool used to be, but it has since been drained, so no one can go swimming in it. After reading the sign that was near there, we took the trail that leads to my favorite spot. I couldn't help but smile and swing our hands a bit as we walked and talked, which made Shawn smile.

"Thank you for coming to celebrate my birthday with me. It means a lot to me and I'm really happy that you're here." I said to Shawn.

"Of course baby girl, I wouldn't miss it for the world. I promise that every single year on your birthday for the rest of our lives, I'll be with you, okay?" Shawn asked.

"What if you're on tour on my birthday? What would we do then?" I asked.

"I'll make sure that doesn't happen, ever. I promise." Shawn said. I smiled.

"Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome. Anything for my girl. You're so smiley and happy today and I love it so much." Shawn said, which only made me smile more.

"I've just been really happy lately, and especially today. Life has been going really great lately. I'm dating my best friend, I'm doing great at school, and I love my job. I'm just really happy." I said as I started to skip a little bit. Shawn stopped walking, wrapped his arms around my waist, and spun me around. When he put me down, he gave me a kiss as he held my face.

"I love hearing that darling." He said when he pulled away. I smiled at him and then we kept walking.

"Oh, there's a bridge up here. Sometimes people carve stuff into it." I said as I pointed at the bridge up ahead of us.

"I wish we had brought something so we could carve our initials into it. We'll do it next time we're here." Shawn said. I looked at him with a smile.

"You would come here again?" I asked. He looked at me with a smile too.

"Only if I was with you." He said. I stopped walking, gave him a quick kiss, and then we kept walking.

"Come here babe, come look at this with me. Isn't it so pretty?" I asked as we leaned against the railing of the bridge. Shawn put his arm around my shoulders and I put my arm around his torso as he pulled me close to him and began to rub my shoulder. I let myself rest my head on his chest as we looked at the stream of water that was flowing underneath the bridge. As Shawn began speaking, I moved my head so I was looking up at him.

"It's really pretty here, but you're prettier. You're the prettiest living thing in the whole entire world. You make me happier than I've ever been in my whole life and I can't thank you enough for that. I'm the luckiest man alive to be with such an incredible woman. You're my best friend and I love that I can go to you about anything at all. I love you." Shawn said. I smiled at him as big as I possibly could.

"I love you so much. Thank you for saying all of that baby. That means a lot to me. Come give me a kiss, my love." I said as I rubbed his back a little bit. Shawn's smile widened and I moved my head a bit so I could kiss him. He held the back of my head as he kissed me. Shawn put his lips on mine and we kissed for a little bit. When Shawn pulled away, he kissed my forehead and the spot that he kissed was left feeling tingly even after his lips were no longer there.

"Should we head to your favorite spot?" Shawn asked. I nodded, interlaced my fingers with his, and we started to walk to my favorite spot at the park. We talked a bit as we walked, and I started to swing our hands back and forth, feeling excitement build inside of me as we got closer to my favorite spot. Soon, I spotted the big open field, and let go of Shawn's hand. I looked at him with a big smile on my face.

"There's my favorite spot! Come on!" I said before I started running ahead. I stopped running, and turned around to look at Shawn, who was walking towards me as he laughed. I started bouncing up and down with excitement when he got closer to me.

"You look like a bunny jumping up and down like that." He said with a smile.

"Do you want to see my best bunny impression?" I asked. Shawn's smile widened as he nodded.

"I would love to see your bunny impression, sweetheart." Shawn said. I started moving my nose like a bunny does and Shawn tilted his head back as he laughed. I smiled, gently grabbed his hand, and led him to my favorite spot. When I got closer to the bench and the beautiful view of the lake, I let go of his hand, walked ahead of him, and turned around so I could see his reaction. Shawn's eyes widened when he saw the lake, and I watched as his beautiful brown eyes took in the view of the lake before landing on me.

"What do you think? Do you like it?" I asked. He smiled and nodded.

"It's beautiful. Stay just like that babe, you look absolutely gorgeous and I need to take a picture of you. Wow, you're stunning." Shawn said as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. I blushed and smiled at his words. After he took a few pictures of me with the view of the lake behind me, he put his phone back in his pocket and held his hand out for me to take. I took his hand and we sat on the stone bench together. Shawn put his arm around my shoulders and I leaned on him.

"I didn't hype it up too much, did I?" I asked. Shawn chuckled and shook his head.

"No, you didn't hype it up too much baby. It's really beautiful and peaceful here. Thank you for bringing me to your favorite place baby girl. I really appreciate it." Shawn said as he smiled at me. I placed a gentle kiss on his lips before smiling at him.

"You're welcome Shawny." I said. He kissed my forehead and then we looked out at the lake again.

"You know what babe? I just came up with a new nickname for you." Shawn said. I sat up a bit and turned towards him.

"What's this new nickname?" I asked.

"Bunny. Whenever you're excited, you jump up and down like a bunny. Would you like it if I called you bunny?" Shawn asked. I smiled.

"I would absolutely love it if you called me bunny." I said. Shawn smiled and gave me a few gentle and loving kisses. When he pulled away, he ran his fingers through my hair and I closed my eyes at his touch.

"Does this feel nice, bunny?" Shawn asked. My smile widened.

"It feels perfect." I said as I opened my eyes. Shawn kissed my forehead again and then put his lips on mine again. This kiss was longer and I loved the feeling of his big hands on my cheeks as he gently held my face. I put one of my hands on his abs and I couldn't help but smile into the kiss when I felt one of his hands move to my arm. Shawn smiled into the kiss too and we pulled away.

"I love you." Shawn said, a little out of breath from the kiss.

"I love you too. I'm really excited to spend more time with you at your place next month." I said as I scooted closer to Shawn and rested my head on his chest. He kissed the top of my head and held me close to him. Once school got out for the semester next month, I was going to fly to Shawn's place in Toronto and spend some time with him, just the two of us.

"I'm really excited for that too. What do you want to do when you're at my place?" Shawn asked. I thought for a moment and then looked up at him.

"I don't know if I've ever told you this, but I really like photography and I have a nice camera that I got as a high school graduation present. Maybe I can bring my camera and take lots of pictures. How does that sound?" I asked as Shawn smiled at me.

"That sounds perfect Y/n. I didn't know you liked photography." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Yeah, I got into photography in middle school, and then I took a photography class for one semester my freshman year of high school, and then I took a different photography class with a different teacher for two semesters my senior year of high school. Some people have said that I'm good at it. I just do it for fun sometimes." I said with a shrug.

"Do you have any of the photos on your phone? I would love to see them." Shawn asked and said. I shook my head.

"No, none that are from my camera. I'll show you my camera when we get back to my place." I said. Shawn nodded.

"Do you edit them?" Shawn asked. I shook my head.

"No. Well, when I took those photography classes, I had to edit some of those with Photoshop, but I don't do that with the photos that I take just for fun. I don't even have Photoshop." I said.

"Would you want me to get you Photoshop?" Shawn asked. I shook my head.

"No thank you, babe. Oh my gosh, wait, when I'm at your place next month, can I take pictures of you?" I asked. Shawn smiled and nodded.

"Of course you can sweetheart." Shawn said.

"It can be like a little photoshoot! Would you mind that?" I asked. Shawn shook his head.

"No, I wouldn't mind that at all. Are you going to want me to pose? I can do that if you want me to." Shawn asked and said.

"No, just do whatever and I'll take pictures. Oh I'm so excited!" I said. Shawn chuckled.

"I love seeing you so happy and so excited, bunny. I'm excited for this photoshoot with you." Shawn said before kissing the top of my head. I got an idea and looked up at him as I smirked.

"You know, there's a catch to all of this." I teased. Shawn chuckled and looked at me.

"And what would that be?" He asked.

"I'm quite expensive, and I don't think you can afford me." I teased. He knew that I was teasing him, and laughed.

"Oh really? How much do you cost?" Shawn asked.

"Ummm, about twenty, no, fifty, yeah, fifty kisses before the photoshoot. Then twenty more kisses throughout the photoshoot, and then another thirty kisses afterwards. Also, I need about, hmm, two million cuddles and hugs before, during, and after the photoshoot." I said, making it up as I went along. Shawn smiled.

"If you make it a million cuddles and hugs, then I can afford you." Shawn teased back. I laughed and then smiled at him.

"I can make it a million and one cuddles and hugs. I could just put you on a payment plan so you can pay a certain amount every month. Do you think that you can afford me?" I teasingly asked. Shawn smirked at me.

"Oh sweetheart, I know that I can afford you." Shawn said. I threw my head back as I laughed.

"I love you." I said to Shawn once I had stopped laughing.

"I love you too bunny." Shawn said. I gave him a kiss on the lips.

"I'm so addicted to your kisses. They give me the most incredible feelings." I said. Shawn smiled and then kissed me.

"I'm addicted to your kisses too baby." Shawn said. We kissed for a bit longer and finally pulled away when we had to catch our breaths. Shawn rested his forehead against mine and we locked eyes. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I placed a gentle kiss on his lips and then looked at him.

"Should we head to the bookstore now?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah, but we're definitely going to make out later. Damn baby girl." Shawn said. I blushed and giggled.

"Wait, before we leave, let's take a selfie with the lake behind us." I said. Shawn smiled and took his phone out.

"Come here gorgeous." Shawn said as he wrapped one of his strong arms around my waist. I placed one of my hands one his chest as we rested our faces together and smiled as wide as we could. Shawn took a picture of us smiling at the camera, and then one of him kissing my cheek as I laughed, and another of us kissing, the smiles on our faces, which we tried to hold back so we could kiss, obvious in the photo. We then looked at the photos.

"I love them!" I said.

"Me too. Ready to go sweetheart?" Shawn asked. I nodded and interlaced my fingers with his. We began to walk back to the car, and because it's such a big park, it was a bit of a long walk. I held Shawn's hand in my hand and then put my other hand on his arm, wanting to stay close to the man that I love more than anything, the man who can make me happy just by his presence.

"Hey babe, why couldn't the skeleton ask out his crush?" I asked as we walked across the bridge again. Shawn chuckled.

"I don't know. Why?" He asked.

"Because he didn't have the guts!" I said. Shawn laughed.

"Hey Shawn!" We heard someone say. We turned and saw a girl who was not so subtly videotaping us.

"Hi." Shawn said as he waved.

"Are you guys dating?" She asked. Shawn stopped walking and turned a bit more. He didn't let go of my hand as he spoke.

"We're going to keep the answer to that between us for right now. We're just here to celebrate her birthday." Shawn said as he gently squeezed my hand.

"Oh, happy birthday!" She said. I smiled.

"Thank you!" I said. Shawn and I waved to the girl and then we kept walking. We soon got to the spot that has the man made waterfall, and saw someone near there. Shawn took out his phone and walked towards the person.

"Excuse me, would you mind taking a picture of us please?" Shawn asked the person.

"Sure." She said. Shawn and I stepped closer to the waterfall. He wrapped his one of his arms around my waist, I wrapped one of my arms around his torso, and placed my hand on his abs as we smiled at the camera. She took a couple and then gave the phone back to Shawn. We thanked her and then walked to the car.

"Okay, so how do I get to the bookstore from here?" Shawn asked.

"Um, I don't know. I'll just put it in the GPS on my phone. Thank you for today Shawn." I said.

"Anything for you babe. You're my girl and I love seeing you so happy." Shawn said. I smiled at him and then put the address into my phone. We talked as we drove away from the park.

"You said that you had a surprise for me. What is it?" I asked. Shawn chuckled.

"You want me to tell you now?" He asked.

"Yes please. I'm very impatient, you know that." I said. Shawn laughed as he drove along.

"Yes, I do know that. Well my love, I got you some birthday presents that I hope you love, and I got you an outfit for tonight, and I'm taking you out to dinner at a fancy restaurant by the lake tonight. I already made the reservations." Shawn said. I smiled at him as I felt so much love for this incredible man fill my heart.

"Oh Shawn, thank you so much. I love you so much." I said.

"You're welcome and I love you too." Shawn said. We soon got to the bookstore and walked in. I turned to Shawn and smiled at him.

"Do you want to see the Harry Potter section?" I asked. I could see the excitement in his eyes, but he tried to hide it as he shook his head.

"No, no, this is your day sweetheart, not mine." Shawn said. I could tell that he wanted to go see it, so I put my hand on his arm and smiled at him.

"Let's go see the Harry Potter section." I said, and before he could protest, I gently grabbed his hand and led him to the section that had the wands and everything.

"Wow! Oh look at all of this!" Shawn said. I smiled at his excitement. I took out my phone and quickly took a picture of him looking at everything with such a big smile on his face.

"Should I get a wand? I don't have one." I asked and said.

"You should definitely get one babe." Shawn said. He helped me pick out a wand, and after he picked one out, he came with me to look at books.

"How many books should I get?" I asked.

"As many as you want baby. Don't worry about the price or anything, okay? This is your day and I want you to get as many books as you want." Shawn said. I knew that he wasn't going to back down, so I just nodded.

"Okay. Thank you for this." I said. He smiled and kissed my cheek.

"You're welcome." Shawn said. He wrapped his arm around my waist as I looked at some books, and I smiled when I felt him rub my side. I read the description of one of the books and then showed it to Shawn.

"I don't know if I should get this one or not. What do you think of it?" I asked. He read the description of it and then handed it back to me.

"It looks good. Whatever you want babe." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Yeah, I'll get it." I said. He kissed my cheek and I smiled. I ended up getting about ten books and the wand. We started to walk to the cash register and Shawn handed me a key to the car. He was holding a basket full of books.

"How about you give me the basket of books and you can go unlock the car and wait for me while I pay." Shawn said.

"You just don't want me to see how much it costs." I said. Shawn chuckled and shrugged.

"Oh well." He said. I sighed, took the key, and went to the car. I unlocked it and then started it. Shawn soon came out to the car, put the books in the backseat, and got in.

"Do I want to know how much damage I just did to your bank account?" I asked as Shawn buckled up. He gently kissed my hand.

"Don't worry about it sweetheart. If I'm not worried about it, then I don't want you to worry about it either, okay?" He asked. I nodded.

"Okay. Are you hungry?" I asked. Shawn nodded.

"Yeah. Are you?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. There's a Panera restaurant right there, or we could go back to my mom's place." I said. He shook his head.

"No, let's just go to Panera." Shawn said.

"Can we sit next to each other at Panera? I like sitting next to you and spending all of this time with you." I asked and said as Shawn drove the short distance to Panera.

"That's fine baby." Shawn said.

"Should I get the mac and cheese or grilled cheese? I think I'll get the mac and cheese. No, I'll get the grilled cheese. No, mac and cheese. Yeah, I want mac and cheese." I said as Shawn laughed.

"Are you sure?" He asked. I thought for a moment and then nodded.

"Nope, I want the grilled cheese. Let's go order before I change my mind." I said as we stepped out of the car.

"You're so silly." Shawn said as he interlaced his fingers with mine and we walked into the restaurant. We ordered our food, then sat down next to each other and started to eat. I came up with an idea and looked at Shawn.

"I just came up with the most brilliant idea ever." I said. Shawn smiled at me as he put his food down and put one of his arms on the back of my seat.

"What's your idea?" He asked.

"We should get hundreds of bobble heads of you and it could be like an army. A Mendes army!" I said. Shawn and I laughed.

"That's the greatest idea you've ever come up with." Shawn said. I smiled.

"Thanks babe." I said. Shawn and I talked and laughed a bit in between bites, and then got back in the car and drove back to my mom's house. My jaw dropped when I walked in. While Shawn and I were out, my mom, my brother, and my best friend had decorated the house with balloons and streamers.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" My mom, Thomas, and Grace yelled when Shawn and I walked in.

"Oh my gosh, thank you so much." I said as I hugged my mom, Thomas and Grace.

"You're welcome. Should we do cake and presents?" My mom asked. I nodded my head.

"Yeah." I said. We all went to the table where there was a red velvet cake with two candles in it: one candle was in the shape of a two, and the other candle was in the shape of a one. Everyone sang happy birthday, and then I had to think for a moment. Life has been so great lately, what could I possibly wish for? A long, happy, healthy life with Shawn. I made my wish and then blew out the candles.

"Come on, let's go open presents." My mom said. We all went to the couch and Shawn sat next to me. My brother got me a cover for my iPad, my mom got me a gift card for a local store that she knows I like, my best friend got me a new journal, and then it was Shawn's turn to give me his presents. He left the room and came back with a little bag, which he then handed to me.

"I got you a few things. I hope you like them." Shawn said. I smiled at him, and then reached into the bag. The first box was a little one, and when I opened it my jaw dropped once again. It was the most beautiful diamond ring with more little diamonds around it. I looked at the ring and then at Shawn.

"Oh my gosh this is beautiful. Thank you so much babe. I love it." I said. Shawn smiled at me.

"Can I put it on you?" He asked. I nodded and handed him the ring. He put it on my ring finger on my right hand so it wouldn't look like we were engaged. After he put the ring on me, I looked into the gift bag and then pulled out another box. It was a bracelet with a knot and the letter "S" on it. I smiled at Shawn.

"I love it. Thank you so much." I said. He smiled and kissed my cheek, which only caused my smile to widen even more. I've always loved how affectionate Shawn and I are with each other.

"You're welcome. There's one more present in there." Shawn said. I reached into the bag and pulled out the last box. In it was a necklace that was in the shape of a bar. On one side of the necklace, it said "Shawn & Y/n" and on the other side of the necklace, it read "12.22.2019" which was the day that we started dating. I smiled at the necklace and then at my incredible boyfriend.

"I love this so much. Thank you for this. Will you put it on me please?" I asked. Shawn nodded as he smiled at me.

"Of course I will. Turn around sweetheart." Shawn said. I did as told and saw my mom smiling at me. I smiled back at my mom, knowing that she was happy for me, as Shawn put the necklace on me. "There you go baby girl. Do you like it?"

"I love it. Are we going to leave for dinner soon? Should I start getting ready?" I asked. Shawn looked at the clock on the wall.

"We still have some time before we have to start getting ready." Shawn said. I nodded and then my phone dinged.

"Cez texted me." I said.

"Oh, what did he say?" Shawn asked. I smiled at the picture that he sent, and the text too.

"He was wondering if he could post this picture of him and I on Instagram and write something, like a happy birthday message. That should be fine, right?" I asked Shawn. He nodded his head.

"Yeah." He said. I texted Cez back saying that it was fine. A little bit later, I got a notification that Cez had posted on Instagram, so I checked it. The photo was of him and I with our arms around each other as we smiled at the camera. I read the caption.

"Happy twenty first birthday to this beautiful soul! I'm so grateful that you're in our lives. Have lots of fun today! P. S. where can I get that avocado pillow you mentioned?" Cez wrote. I liked the post and then commented on it.

"Thank you so much for this!!! I'll get you the pillow ASAP, I promise!" I commented. Josiah Van Dien, Shawn's tour photographer posted a picture that he had taken the month before, when I met him. It was just me, mid laugh at something. I liked the post and read the caption.

"Happy birthday Y/n! I hope you laugh as much as you did when I took this picture of you." Josiah captioned it. I commented on the post.

"Thank you!!! I've been laughing a lot today, lol." I wrote. Brian posted a photo of me that he had taken when him, Shawn, Jon and I went out to the club the month before. I was holding a Corona in each hand, and I was making a funny face to the camera. My mouth was open and it looked like I was yelling something. I liked the photo and read the caption.

"It's your birthday Y/n, get as trashed as you want! Happy twenty first birthday!" Brian wrote. I commented on the post.

"LMAO I love this! Thank youuu." I wrote. Shawn commented some heart eyes emojis on the post. I knew that he had loved my outfit before we went to the club that night. I had been wearing black skinny jeans and a black tank top that was lace and a bit see through. Shawn had a hard time keeping his hands off of me that night. He didn't care that we hadn't gone public yet, he just wanted to be affection with me (A/n: Should I do a story based off of this?).

"We should get ready to go." Shawn said. I nodded and went in my room. Shawn had gotten me a beautiful red jumpsuit. I put it on, and then put on some light makeup. Just eyeliner, mascara, and some eye shadow. I called my mom into the room.

"Wow! You look so beautiful!" She said. I smiled.

"Thank you. Should I curl my hair a bit? He's never seen it curly." I asked and said. She nodded and got me the curling iron.

"Do you want me to curl it for you so you don't burn yourself?" She asked as she turned it on. I laughed and nodded.

"Yes please. Is he getting ready too?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah, he's getting changed in your brother's room. I think he got a suit or something fancy like that. Y/n, I have to say, I have never seen you say happy like you are when you're with Shawn." My mom said as she began to curl my hair. I smiled and nodded.

"Being around him... it's so easy. Nothing ever feels forced, and I'm just constantly smiling and laughing around him. I didn't know it was possible to be this happy and this in love." I said.

"Well, we've all noticed a difference in you. A good difference." My mom said. I smiled, and she soon finished curling my hair.

"Do you think he'll like it?" I asked my mom.

"I think he'll love it, but the more important question is do you like it?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yes, I love it. Thank you mom." I said. She smiled and nodded.

"Of course." She said. I put on some red heels and then stepped out to where Shawn was, in the living room. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped when he saw me. His eyes scanned me up and down, before meeting my eyes again, and a smile quickly spread out on his face.

"Oh my gosh. You look absolutely stunning. Wow. Oh my gosh your hair! It's curly!" Shawn said as he walked towards me. I blushed and giggled.

"Do you like it?" I asked as he gently touched the curls. He smiled at me and nodded.

"I love it. Wow, you look so gorgeous." Shawn said.

"Thank you. You look so handsome and dapper." I said. He was wearing black dress pants, a white dress shirt, and a black suit jacket. He smiled at my words and I noticed him blush a little.

"Thank you bunny. We should take a picture before we leave. Thomas, would you mind taking it for us?" Shawn asked.

"Sure." Thomas said as Shawn handed him his phone. Shawn wrapped an arm around my waist, and I place one of my hands on his chest. We smiled as Thomas took a few pictures of us and then handed Shawn his phone back.

"Thanks man. We'll see you guys when we get back." Shawn said as he interlaced his fingers with mine.

"Bye!" My mom, Thomas, and Grace said. Shawn led me to the car and opened the door for me.

"Thank you Shawny." I said.

"You're welcome bunny." He said. I smiled at the new nickname as he shut the door and then got in on his side. He was still driving my brother's car.

"So you're taking me to a restaurant by the lake?" I asked as Shawn began to drive away.

"Yup. Your mom said you went there for your sweet sixteen." Shawn said. I nodded.

"Yeah, I did. Thank you for all of this. All of today, and well, just everything. I'm really grateful for you and your love." I said. Shawn gently grabbed my hand and kissed it.

"Anything for you sweetheart. You know that I love to see you smile. You know, I'm going to assume that we'll be public on your twenty second birthday -" Shawn started.

"Definitely!" I said. He chuckled before continuing.

"When we're public on your birthday, I'm going to post pictures from today and I'll write a cheesy caption. How does that sound? Would you like it if I did that?" Shawn asked with a smile.

"I would absolutely love that." I said. Shawn and I talked a bit more before we finally reached the restaurant. We were seated by the lake, and smiled at each other.

"Hold on, you look so stunning, let me take a picture of you." Shawn said. I giggled and blushed but smiled at him as he took a picture of me. "Wow. I'm the luckiest man alive."

"I'm the luckiest woman alive." I said as he put his phone away. He reached across the table, gently grabbed both of my hands, kissed them, and then we both began to look at the menu. After ordering our food, Shawn kept smiling at me.

"You know babe, you've taught me a lot." Shawn said.

"Really?" I asked. He nodded. "Like what?"

"Well, you've taught me to be more curious about life and about everything. You've taught me to not be afraid to ask questions. You look at life with such wonder and amazement, and I love that a lot. Baby, you've taught me what it's like to want to grow with someone, not grow beside them." Shawn said. I smiled at him and kissed his hands.

"I love that and I love you." I said.

"I love you too Y/n. So, so much." He said.

"Can I ask you a question?" I asked soon after our food arrived.

"Of course. You can ask me anything." Shawn said.

"What would be, like, the perfect day for you?" I asked.

"A day filled with you." Shawn said. I smiled at his words as I felt a rush of love for this man fill my body.

"What specifically? Like, is there anything specific that we would do?" I asked. Shawn looked up from his food.

"Cuddle a lot. Why? Are you trying to plan a perfect day? Any day with you is perfect." He asked and said. I smiled and shook my head.

"No, I just want to know what you picture." I said as he chewed his food. Once he swallowed and began talking, I took a bite of my food. I couldn't help but smile even wider at the look of love that he got on his face as he talked about a perfect day filled with me.

"Well, I would obviously wake up with you in my arms. Then, we would make breakfast together - well, I would make breakfast while you made us some coffee and tea. We would spend the whole day together, cuddling on the couch, watching Netflix. We would make lunch together, and then you would make dinner, just like you always do, or we would go out somewhere to eat. Of course we would be holding hands and kissing a lot throughout the day. It would be perfect. Any and every day with you is perfect." Shawn said. I finished chewing and then smiled at him.

"I love that." I said.

"What would be a perfect day for you?" Shawn asked.

"I would wake up in your arms, and we would eat breakfast. Then, maybe we could go to some park, or I would really love to show you the President John F. Kennedy Library and Museum! Spending the day there with you, walking around there with you would be wonderful. Maybe we would go to a park afterwards and just spend time together, and then go home and cuddle until we had to go out for dinner." I said. Shawn smiled at me, causing butterflies to erupt in my tummy.

"I would love that. Do you want to go to the Kennedy Library and Museum tomorrow?" Shawn asked. My eyes widened and so did my smile.

"Really?" I asked. He chuckled and nodded.

"Of course." He said.

"Okay, but I'm paying for our admission tickets! You always pay for everything, I just want to pay for this. Please?" I asked. Shawn thought for a moment.

"But it's your birthday weekend." He said. I shrugged.

"Yeah, but my birthday will be over by then. Please?" I asked. Shawn, after thinking about it, nodded.

"Okay. But only the admission tickets." He said.

"Thank you!" I said.

"You're welcome bunny." He said. Once we finished eating, and Shawn paid - he wouldn't even let me pay for the tip - we got ready to head back to the car.

"I don't want the night to end. Is there somewhere we can go?" I asked as he held my hand.

"I don't know. Wait, let's have someone take our picture before we go. Excuse me, would you mind taking a picture of us?" Shawn asked someone.

"Sure." The guy said. We took a picture by the lake, and then got in the car.

"Should we just drive around?" Shawn asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. I just want to spend as much time with you as possible and I want to kiss you a lot." I said. Shawn placed a gentle kiss on my hands before he began driving again. We drove along for a bit, and then found a random place to park. Shawn immediately unbuckled and turned to me, and I did the same.

"Come here baby girl." Shawn said as he leaned over and put his lips on mine. I immediately got all of the insanely amazing feelings that I always get: the butterflies, the sparks, and my heart raced. The kiss became a bit heated even though we were in the car and couldn't do anything, but I didn't want to stop kissing him. We soon had to pull away to catch our breaths.

"Damn. You're the best kisser ever." I said. Shawn laughed, we buckled, and then began driving again.

"Well you're an incredible kisser too baby. I'm addicted to your kisses." Shawn said. I smiled and we talked and laughed a bit more before heading back to my mom's house. As soon as we got inside, I kicked off my heels and turned to Shawn.

"Thank you for today." I said. He gave me a quick but gentle and loving kiss.

"You're welcome. Did you have a good time?" He asked as he took his suit off. I nodded my head, making the curls bounce a bit.

"Yeah." I said.

"Good." Shawn said. We got changed into pajamas, I took off my makeup, and we found my mom and my brother watching tv.

"Did you guys have a good time?" My mom asked. We nodded.

"Yeah." We said.

"Good. You guys look tired." My mom said. We nodded.

"Yeah. Do you want to go to bed?" I asked Shawn. He nodded.

"Yeah. Good night guys." Shawn said to my mom and my brother.

"Good night." They said. I waved to them, and then Shawn and I went to bed and cuddled up to each other.

"Shawn?" I asked as he began to rub my back softly and gently.

"Hm?" He asked.

"Do you think that are going to be pictures and videos of us posted anywhere?" I asked. Shawn kissed my forehead before speaking again.

"If there are, let's not worry about it." He said. I nodded.

"Okay. Good night baby. I love you." I said. Shawn gently squeezed my side before rubbing it.

"Good night bunny. I love you too. Happy birthday." Shawn said. I quickly drifted off into sleep. The next morning, I woke up before Shawn did. I wriggled myself out of his grip carefully, and then grabbed my phone and went into the other room. My mom was sitting there with her morning coffee in her hand.

"Good morning." She said.

"Morning. I'm just checking Instagram before Shawn wakes up. I want to know if people caught us yesterday." I said as I opened the app. The first thing I saw was a video of us kissing at the park, followed by a video of Shawn picking me up, spinning me around, and then kissing me.

"I thought Shawn said not to worry about it?" She asked.

"I know, but I just want to see." I said. The video of the person asking if we're dating, with Shawn saying that we're going to keep the answer to that between us for now, was all over. A couple of pictures from breakfast were posted too. People had been messaging me on Instagram direct messages, but I didn't look at them. For the video of Shawn saying that we're keeping the answer to our relationship between us for now, people had different feelings. Some people liked that Shawn said that, others just wanted to know what was going on. I went to Twitter and saw that people were tweeting about us on there too.

"Baby? What are you looking at?" Shawn asked as he walked into the room. He rubbed his eyes, and I could tell that he was tired. My mom stepped out of the room.

"Just some stuff. Why don't you go back to bed? You seem tired." I said, even though I knew he wouldn't listen. He shook his head, and when he sat down next to me, and saw my phone, I heard him sigh.

"Y/n..." He said. I knew that he didn't want me to look at this, but I couldn't help it.

"Shawn, I'm not used to this, and I just want to know what people are saying." I said. He nodded after thinking for a moment.

"Okay. What are people saying?" He asked. I showed him the posts on both Instagram and Twitter and he nodded. He then took out his phone and went to Twitter.

"I just want to know if @ShawnMendes is happy." Someone tweeted. Shawn kissed my cheek and then quote retweeted it.

"I'm happier than I've ever been in my whole life!!! Life is so great and incredible right now!!!" He tweeted and then smiled at me.

"I love you." I said.

"I love you too. Ready for the Kennedy library?" He asked.

"I just have to do a few things." I said. He nodded and after we both ate and got ready, we left and spent the day at the Kennedy library before going back to my house and cuddling. I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have such an incredible guy in my life to celebrate my birthday with.

What Shawn got you:
