161. Miscarriage

A/n: I apologize for this imagine being so sad. I have had this idea stuck in my head and I needed to get it out. Anyways, please enjoy this imagine even though it's sad. The next one will be happier. Okay, without further ado, let's begin.

March 12, 2033

My husband of almost nine years is the singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes. He left for his first tour in about nine or so years a few weeks ago and I miss him like crazy. Him and I have three kids together. Rose Lucille Mendes, who's seven. We also have Jacob Alexander Scott Mendes, also known as Jake, who's going to be five in May, and Julia Kennedy Mendes, who's going to be three in May.

I haven't been feeling good lately. I haven't told Shawn that because I don't want him to worry about me while he's on tour since there's nothing he can do from so far away, but it's gotten to the point where I just keep throwing up. I decided to call him and tell him. He picked up quickly.

"Hi honey." He said.

"Hi. Um, so I have something to tell you, but I just don't want you to worry about me." I said.

"Mrs. Mendes, I'm your husband. It's my job to worry about you. What's going on?" He asked me.

"I really haven't been feeling good lately. I keep throwing up constantly. I was sent home from work the other day because of how sick I was." I said.

"Oh darling, why didn't you tell me?" He asked.

"I didn't want to worry you. You're back on tour, and I want you to focus on that rather than thinking about me being sick. But I made a doctors appointment for tomorrow to figure this out. I haven't been getting a temperature so I don't know what it is." I said.

"Okay babe. It's my job to worry about you, and I know that you don't like that, but I also know that you worry about me too, right?" He asked. I nodded even though he couldn't see me.

"Yeah." I said.

"See? We have to be there for each other and tell each other what's going on. Call me after the doctor's appointment tomorrow, okay darling?" Shawn asked.

"Okay. I miss you." I said.

"I miss you too. How are the kids?" Shawn asked.

"They're good. They're napping right now. They miss their daddy." I said.

"Yeah, I miss them too. When they wake up, please tell them I love them." Shawn said. I nodded again.

"Okay, I will. I love you Shawn." I said.

"I love you too Y/n." He said.

"I'll talk to you later." I said.

"Okay honey. Bye." He said.

"Bye." I said, and we hung up. The next day I went to the doctors.

"Mrs. Mendes, when was the last time that you and your husband were intimate?" The doctor asked. I thought for a moment.

"Um, it was probably about a month ago. Oh my gosh. We were intimate but we forgot a condom. Oh my gosh, could I be pregnant?" I asked. The doctor smiled, but I was panicking. Shawn and I had always said that we only wanted three kids, and if we were pregnant, we would need to sell the house that we live in now and buy a bigger one.

"Let me contact Dr. Ackles to see if she can do an ultrasound on you." My doctor said. I nodded.

"Okay." I said. She made a phone call and then looked at me.

"You can go right down to see Dr. Ackles. Good luck!" She said.

"Thank you." I said with a weak smile. It would be wonderful to be pregnant again and to have another baby, but I was nervous. If I was pregnant, would Shawn be mad? What would he do about tour? I went up to the receptionist and checked in and then sat down. Usually, whenever we have an appointment with Dr. Ackles, Shawn is right here, sitting next to me. But right now he's in Oslo, Norway (A/n: I know that he's not actually there right now, but let's just pretend he is.).

"Mrs. Mendes?" The nurse asked. I stood up.

"Hi." I said. She brought me into a room.

"Come on in and lay down on the table please. Dr. Ackles should be in soon." She said. I nodded.

"Okay, thank you." I said. She nodded and left. I took a few deep breaths as I tried to calm myself down. Soon, Dr. Ackles came in.

"Hello Mrs. Mendes, how are you?" She asked.

"I'm okay. I've been getting sick a lot, to the point where I had to be sent home from work the other day. Um, my husband and I were intimate a little over a month ago, and I think that we forgot to use a condom." I said. She nodded.

"Okay. Where is your husband today?" She asked.

"He's back on tour so he's in Norway right now." I said. She nodded as she got the ultrasound wand out.

"Ready to see if you're pregnant?" She asked. I took a deep breath and nodded.

"Yeah." I said. She rubbed the ultrasound wand on me and then smiled at me.

"Congratulations Mrs. Mendes. It looks like you're about six weeks along. It's too early to tell the gender. Come back in two weeks and we'll check on the baby, okay?" She asked. I nodded.

"Okay. Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome." She said. She gave me the ultrasound pictures and I put them in my purse. I went to my mom's house because she had the kids with her. My hands were shaking. I felt nervous as I walked in the front door.

"Mommy!" The kids yelled as they came over to give me hugs. I smiled at them.

"Hello my sweets. How was your day with Meimei? Were you good for her?" I asked. They nodded.

"Yes we were." They said. I looked at my mom and she nodded.

"They were really good." She said. I smiled.

"Good. Guys, I have to talk to Meimei in the kitchen, but we'll be right back." I said. They nodded their cute little heads.

"Okay Mommy." They said. My mom and I went into the kitchen.

"So, what did the doctor say?" She asked.

"Um, I'm kind of freaking out right now. Remember a little over a month ago when Shawn and I asked you to watch the kids overnight?" I asked as I twirled my wedding band around on my finger. My mom nodded.

"Yeah." She said.

"Yeah, um, I'm pregnant." I said. My mom's eyes widened as she hugged me.

"Congratulations! How far along are you?" She asked.

"Six weeks. I go back to see her on the twenty seventh. Shawn doesn't have a concert that day. I wonder if he can fly home and come with me. How am I supposed to tell him that I'm pregnant? Do I call him? Should I text him and tell him to call me when he can?" I asked. My mom nodded.

"Yeah, text him and tell him to call you when he can because you have something important to tell him. Why do you seem nervous?" My mom asked.

"Because Shawn is on tour. Each time that I've been pregnant, Shawn has been right there with me, so what are we going to do now? Tour just started. Also, our house isn't big enough for four kids and two adults. We're going to need to get a bigger house, and I don't want to move out of our town because that would disrupt the kids schooling." I said. My mom nodded.

"Well, everything will be okay." She said. I nodded.

"Okay. Um, do you mind watching the kids while I step outside and text Shawn?" I asked. My mom shook her head.

"No I don't mind. That's fine." She said. I nodded.

"Okay, thank you. I'm just going to sit on the back steps." I said.

"Okay." My mom said. I stepped out the back door, sat down, and pulled out my phone. I clicked on my last texting conversation with my husband and typed out the message.

Me: Hi babe. Please call me when you get a chance, I have to tell you something very important.

Shawn's point of view

I sat in my question and answer session. I was about to choose someone else to ask a question when my phone went off. I pulled it out of my pocket and read the text that was from my wife. I then looked up at my fans.

"So, Y/n just texted me and told me to call her when she gets a chance and that it's very important. Do you guys mind if I call her right now?" I asked.

"No." They said. I called Y/n and she answered right away.

"Hi." She said and I could hear the worry in her voice.

"Hi honey. Is everything okay? How did the doctors appointment go?" I asked. I heard her take a deep breath.

"Um, I'm really, really nervous right now and I'm really anxious. I'm worried that you're going to be mad at me." She said.

"What? I could never be mad at you honey. You're worrying me babe, what's going on?" I asked.

"Do you remember a little over a month ago when we had a date night and then we went home and we made love?" She asked. I nodded even though she couldn't see me.

"Yeah." I said.

"Um, we forgot a condom." She said.

"Oh. Okay." I said, not quite understanding what she was getting at.

"Shawn, I'm pregnant." She said. My eyes went wide and I almost dropped my phone as happy tears formed in my eyes. I suddenly didn't even care about the fact that people were recording me.

"Wait, are you serious?" I asked.

"Yeah. Are you upset with me?" She asked nervously.

"No, no, oh God no. Oh my gosh honey. This is amazing. Are you really pregnant? Are we really going to have another baby?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'm six weeks along." She said.

"Oh my gosh honey. We're pregnant, oh my gosh." I said as tears fell onto my cheeks. The fans cheered.

"Where are you?" She asked when she heard the fans cheering.

"I'm at my question and answer session." I said.

"Oh sorry, I'm so sorry." She said.

"It's okay honey. Are you excited about being pregnant again?" I asked. I heard her sigh.

"I am, I love being pregnant and I love having little ones, I'm just worried. I mean, the house that we live in now isn't going to fit four kids and two adults. We would need to get a new house, a bigger house, which also means a more expensive house. Plus, what if we can't find any houses that are perfect for us in the town that we live in? What if the kids need to switch schools because we have to move to a different town? And what about tour?" She asked.

"Honey, breathe. Everything is going to be okay. We'll look at five bedroom houses in our town, but if we absolutely have to move to a different town because we can't find anything, then that's what we have to do. We'll figure out tour. When is your next appointment?" I asked.

"The twenty seventh. You don't have a concert that day." She said.

"Okay. What time is it going to be at?" I asked.

"Noon." She said.

"Okay. I'll fly home that day so I can go with you. Does that sound good my love?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'll let you get back to your q and a." She said.

"Okay babe. I love you." I said.

"I love you too." She said, and we hung up. I smiled at my fans.

"Y/n and I are pregnant! Holy crap this is amazing." I said. Later on, I got a text from Y/n. She had found a five bedroom house just up the street from us and sent me the link.

My wife: I just found this and it's literally just up the street from us. It looks really nice and not very expensive. What do you think of it?

Me: I love it. We'll check it out in person soon, I promise.

My wife: Okay. I love you.

Me: I love you too darling.

Later on, when I was on stage, in between songs, I strummed my guitar as I went up to the microphone. The smile on my face was huge, and I couldn't wipe it off my face.

"So, earlier, my wife texted me and asked me to call her when I got a chance and that it was very important. I was in my question and answer session, but I called her right away. There's probably videos of it out there, and some of you probably know what I'm talking about, but basically, to make a slightly long story short, my wife told me that we're pregnant with our fourth baby!" I said.

"WOOOO!" The crowd cheered. I smiled.

"My wife and I are really happy. I'll be honest, whenever Y/n and I have talked about our future together, we've always said that we wanted three kids. This pregnancy has come as a bit of a surprise, but still, we're happy. Nervous, but happy and excited. I absolutely can't wait to meet this little one." I said with a huge smile. Soon, the concert ended. A couple of weeks later, I flew home.

"DADDY!" The kids yelled as they ran up to me when I walked in the door. I crouched down and hugged them. My mother in law, Y/m/n, was here so she could watch the kids while Y/n and I went to the appointment.

"Hi guys. How are you doing?" I asked mine and Y/n's beautiful and amazing kids. I felt bad, knowing that I would have to leave them again later today.

"Good. We missed you Daddy." Rose said. I gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"I missed you guys too. Where's your beautiful Momma?" I asked.

"I'm right here." Y/n said as she walked into the room. I smiled at her but I could sense that she was nervous. She's always loved the house that we live in, and when we bought it, we agreed that it would be our forever home. Now, that was going to change. I gave my wife a hug and whispered in her ear.

"Everything will be okay." I whispered. She nodded.

"Okay. I have to finish getting ready." She said.

"Okay babe. Can I get a kiss first please?" I asked. She nodded as she smiled.

"Of course you can. Come here honey." She said. I put my lips on hers and got the same familiar and amazing feelings that I always get. I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon, I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my tummy, and I felt sparks shoot through me like fireworks. We soon pulled away from each other.

"Magical. Go finish getting ready and I'll wait down here, my love." I said. She nodded.

"Okay." She said before going upstairs. I gave my mother in law a hug.

"Congratulations!" She said. I smiled.

"Thank you so much." I said.

"Are you ready to be a dad again?" She asked. I nodded.

"Absolutely." I said. We talked for a little bit longer.

"SHAWN!" Y/n yelled. My eyes went wide and I bolted up the stairs and into our bedroom.

"Oh my God." I said. Y/n was hunched over the toilet in our bathroom, puking as blood ran down her legs.

"I don't know what's happening but my stomach hurts a lot." She said.

"Okay, stay right there, I'll be right back." I said.

"Okay." She said. I ran downstairs and looked at Y/m/n.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"I'm going to call an ambulance for Y/n. She's bleeding a lot and throwing up and her stomach is really hurting. Will you stay here with the kids please?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah, let me take the kids into Rose's room so they won't see her like this." She said. I nodded.

"Okay, thank you. I'm going to go back up there and call an ambulance." I said.

"Okay." She said. I went upstairs as my mother in law and the kids went into Rose's room and shut the door. I dialed 911 as I rubbed my wife's back. She was still puking and bleeding a bit.

"This is 911, what's your emergency?" The dispatcher asked.

"My wife is bleeding a lot and she's throwing up. She's two months pregnant." I said.

"What's your address?" She asked. I told her.

"I need to sit down." Y/n said.

"Okay honey, sit down. Why don't you lean against the cupboard?" I asked as I helped her sit down.

"Okay." She said. She then leaned over the toilet again and threw up.

"Please hurry, she's pregnant and she's bleeding and vomiting a lot." I said.

"An ambulance is on it's way, sir." The dispatcher said.

"Okay." I said. Soon, we heard the sirens and then the doorbell rang. I rushed downstairs, hung up with the dispatcher after saying that the ambulance was here, and opened the door.

"What seems to be going on?" An EMT asked. I told them.

"She's upstairs. Do you want me to carry her down so we can put her on the stretcher?" I asked. They had a stretcher at the bottom of our front steps.

"Sure." The EMT said. I went upstairs to Y/n.

"Shawn, Shawn my stomach." Y/n said, a look of pain etched across her beautiful face.

"I know honey, I know. I'm going to carry you down to the stretcher, okay?" I asked as I began to pick her up.

"Okay." She said. I lifted her and carried her to the stretcher and laid her down on it so the EMT's could strap her in. My arm had some of her blood on it, but I didn't care. All I cared about right now was Y/n and our baby.

"Will I be able to ride in the ambulance with my wife?" I asked.

"Do you want your husband to ride with you to the hospital?" One of the EMT's asked Y/n. She nodded.

"Yes, definitely." She said.

"Okay, I'll ride with you." I said. Y/n nodded and we got into the ambulance. She held my hand and I used my other hand to rub her head.

"I'm scared Shawn. I'm really scared." Y/n said. She had tears in her eyes and I could hear the fear in her voice.

"I know my love, I know. I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere, okay?" I asked her. To be honest, I was very scared too. I wanted to know what was going on with my wife. She nodded.

"Okay. I love you." She said. I kissed her forehead.

"I love you too." I said. We soon arrived at the hospital because the ambulance had put their lights and sirens on. We were brought into a room.

"I want to know what's going on." Y/n said.

"I know honey, I do too. I have to go in the bathroom for a moment, I'll be right back." I said.

"Okay." Y/n said. I went in the bathroom and washed the blood off of my arm. I went back to Y/n, sat next to her, and took out my phone.

"I'm just going to text your mom and tell her that we're here." I said.

"Okay." She said. I texted my mother in law, and then texted Andrew, my manager.

Me: I'm at the hospital with Y/n. She was bleeding and throwing up a lot so I called an ambulance. We're just waiting for the doctor to come in so they can tell us what the hell is going on.

"Shawn?" Y/n asked. I looked at my gorgeous wife. She looked nervous, so I reached out to hold her hand. As our skin touched, I felt electricity spark through me, yet I felt safe and warm at the same time.

"Yes my love?" I asked.

"There's something I haven't told you. I know that you say that it's your job to worry about me, but that doesn't mean that I like it." She said.

"What is it honey?" I asked as I rubbed her hand with my thumb.

"I've been having panic attacks everyday since I found out about the pregnancy. It gets so bad that my hands, my legs, my whole body shakes really bad and it takes me a bit to calm down. I've been so stressed and anxious. I mean, yes I'm excited to be pregnant again, but there's going to be a lot of changes and that scares the crap out of me." She said as tears fell onto her cheeks. I stood up and wiped them away with the pad of my thumb.

"It's okay honey. I want you to tell me the next time you have a panic attack, okay?" I asked.

"Okay. I'm sorry." She said. I kissed her forehead.

"It's okay darling." I said. The doctor came in with a machine.

"Hello there Mr. and Mrs. Mendes. We're just going to do an ultrasound to see how the baby is, okay?" The doctor asked. We nodded.

"Okay." We said. The doctor lifted up Y/n's shirt a bit and put the gel on her. She then moved the ultrasound wand around on Y/n's stomach. She was quiet as she moved it around. She then stopped and looked at my wife.

"Mrs. Mendes, were you under a lot of stress or anything?" The doctor asked. My heart began to race. Was everything okay with our baby?

"Yes. I've been very stressed, worried and anxious. I've been having panic attacks everyday for two weeks." Y/n admitted. The doctor nodded.

"I'm sorry, but you've had a miscarriage. I'll give you two a moment alone." The doctor said before leaving the room. I sat down in the chair next to Y/n's bed. It felt like my heart had broken into a million pieces.

"No, no, no. I'm so sorry Shawn. This is all my fault. I'm so sorry." Y/n said as she began to sob. My heart broke even more. I stood up and held her face in my hands.

"Y/n Mendes, this is not at all your fault. It just wasn't meant to be. Okay? It's not your fault." I said as I began to cry too.

"I'll understand if you're upset with me." She said.

"Honey, no. Oh my gosh no. Please honey, this isn't your fault." I said. Y/n looked at me, her eyes were sad and heartbroken.

"I feel like my heart is broken." She said.

"I know. I know. I'm going to call Andrew and cancel however many concerts that I have for the rest of this leg of the tour. I need to be here with you and the kids. We need each other right now, and there's no way that I would be able to perform tomorrow." I said.

"Are you sure that you want to cancel all of those concerts?" Y/n asked as I sat back down in the chair and pulled out my phone.

"I'm positive. My love, I need you right now, and you need me, right?" I asked. She nodded.

"Yeah." She said.

"Exactly. I'll call Andrew." I said. Y/n nodded. Andrew soon picked up.

"Hey, what's going on?" He asked.

"How many shows do I have left for this leg of the tour?" I asked.

"Um, I think it's fourteen." Andrew said.

"Cancel them please." I said.

"What? You want to cancel fourteen concerts?" He asked.

"Yes. I need to be with my wife and kids right now. Y/n, Y/n had a miscarriage." I said as I cried.

"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry. Consider the concerts cancelled. Do you want to post something on Instagram since the fans know that you guys were pregnant?" Andrew asked.

"Yeah. I'll write something in the notes app on my phone and then screenshot it and post it on Instagram." I said.

"Okay." Andrew said.

"Bye." I said.

"Bye." Andrew said.

"Andrew is going to cancel the concerts and I'm going to make a post just to say that we had a miscarriage and that those concerts are going to be cancelled." I said. Y/n nodded.

"Okay." She said. I wrote in my notes app on my phone, screenshot it, and then posted it onto Instagram.

"It is with a heavy and broken heart that my wife and I announce that we have suffered a miscarriage. Y/n was two months along in the pregnancy. Although this pregnancy hadn't been expected, we were both excited. We did feel nervous, stressed, and anxious, knowing that there would be changes. There was no way that we could remain living in the house that we have now. We would have to sell it and look for a bigger house. My career would most likely have to go on hold again. All of the stress and anxiety took a toll on my wife, and the baby. To those who bought tickets to the rest of the European leg of the tour, I apologize, but the concerts will be cancelled, and your tickets will be refunded. The tour will resume for the North American leg on June 12th. Right now, I need to spend time with my wife and our kids. Y/n is my rock, and I'm hers. We need each other more than ever right now. Please respect our privacy as we go through this difficult time. Y/n and I will be taking a break from social media." I wrote. Y/n held her hand out for me to take and I did.

"Shawn, will you sit on the bed with me please?" She asked. I nodded. I set my phone down on the table that was next to her hospital bed and sat on the bed with her.

"Come here honey." I said as I put my arm around her. She put her head on my chest.

"I have never felt so sad in my life." She said as she sniffled.

"I know honey. I feel the same way. But we're going to get through this because we have each other, okay?" I asked. She nodded her head against my chest.

"Okay." She said.

"I love you darling." I said. She held me tighter.

"I love you too Shawny." She said. Y/n was soon released from the hospital and we went home. Y/n's mom had already told the kids that there wouldn't be another baby, which they didn't really understand. Y/n and I hugged the kids close to us when we got home. I stayed at home until June 11th. It was extremely hard to say goodbye to the kids and to Y/n again. Y/n and I had a moment alone together and we shed some tears and held each other close.

June 12, 2033

"I don't know if I can do this." I said to my tour manager, Cez Darke, before I went on stage.

"Dude, you have to. The fans are already here." He said. I nodded and eventually went on stage. After a few songs, I spoke into the microphone. My band knew what I was about to do.

"So um, this is my first show back in a while. There's a song that I would like to play, and I'll be completely honest with you guys, I'm kind of nervous to play it. I sound checked this song earlier and broke down crying. I promise to try my hardest to get through it because I feel like I should play it. Would you guys like to hear me play a song by Ed Sheeran?" I asked.

"WOOO!" The crowd cheered. I took a deep breath, and began to sing Small Bump by Ed Sheeran. I got emotional throughout it and had to turn away from the microphone a few times. I finally got to the last part of the song.

"'Cause you were just a small bump unborn for four months then torn from life / Maybe you were needed up there but we're still unaware as why." I sang. I closed my eyes and the tears came spilling out. "Oh God." I choked out. I turned away from the microphone, put my hands on my knees, and sobbed. I took my guitar off, set it down on the stage, squatted down, put my face in my hands and continued to sob. I felt someone put their hand on my back. I stood up and it was Zubin.

"Come here bro." He said. I immediately hugged him tight as I sobbed. Mike, Dave, and Eddy came over and we all hugged.

"I don't know if I can keep going." I said as I stepped away from the hug and looked at my band.

"You have to. You got this. We're all here for you. Think of how proud of yourself you're going to be when you finish tour and you're able to go back to your wife and kids and say that you were able to push through." Zubin said. I nodded and picked up my guitar. Everyone went back to where they were supposed to be, and I went back to the microphone.

"Sorry about that. If you guys didn't know, the reason why I cancelled all of those concerts and the reason why I just broke down sobbing is because my wife and I suffered a miscarriage. Luckily I have an amazing support system that's always there for me. My family flew in after I told them, and they stayed to help Y/n and I. Obviously our kids didn't understand why there wouldn't be a new baby, but Y/n and I needed each other. Okay, let's get on with the concert." I said before going into the next song and then finishing the concert. I was very proud of myself when I was able to finish that leg of tour and go home and be proud of myself.

Y/n and I eventually got better with each other's help. We leaned on each other, and had no problem calling each other in the middle of the night if we were struggling. We would cry on the phone together if we needed to. Our relationship became stronger than ever before. Also, the love and support that was sent in by fans, friends, family, and other celebrities helped tremendously. When I got home from the North American leg of tour, Y/n and I were able to smile more than before. Obviously the pain of losing our baby will never fully go away, but as long as we have each other, we'll be okay.
